My tenants notified me the air conditioner was not working and told me they had called ARS Rescue Rooter. When the technician Mr Brown arrived he asked the tenants to call me. He told me it was low on freon and that they no longer make parts for my unit and the only thing he could do was replace it for $10k+. I called someone out the next day and the unit was NOT low on freon and needed a blower motor. Was repaired for $500 and the technician had the parts on his truck. ARS should refund the service fee and hire people that can actually repair systems and change their philosophy to one of integrity and honesty. Will never call them again. read more

About 2 years ago I had an ARS tech suggest I install an Air Scrubber unit to disinfect my whole house. The COVID virus was just starting to appear in the US and I thought it would be a good idea. Since it was an investment of over $1000.00 I had several questions about the Air Scrubber unit. The main question was how often to change the UV bulb and the cost of the replacement bulb. Tech told me the UV bulb lasts about 2 years and the cost to replace the UV bulb was about $100.00...Last month while a different tech was here doing P/M on the HVAC unit, he told me the UV bulb was out and needed replacing. I asked him how much to install a new UV bulb and he quoted me $495.00 plus tax. I told him the tech that installed the unit quoted the UV bulb was $100.00 to replace. He didn't respond and I said that I would have never agreed to install the Air Scrubber if I was told the TRUE COST of the replacement bulb of $495.00... Deceptive information given to make a commission on the sale of the Air Scrubber by the tech...Not the kind of HVAC company I want to give my business. After calling and emailing the company management many times during the past month to discuss the issue, I am still awaiting a response. Another reason to stay away from ARS as they don't even return calls or emails. I have been a customer for many years and if this is the way they treat their current customers, I will be looking to another HVAC company to provide service to my unit...STAY AWAY FROM ARS, there are far better local HVAC companies that want your business... read more

My dad and step mom had this company install a new unit and new vents through out their house 5 years ago. They paid well over 10, 000 for this service. Recently my dad passed and we are in the process of selling his house so an inspection was done, this company installed something wrong in the attic, a fire hazard the inspector called it. Not only did my dad and step mom live in a house with a fire hazard , this sorry company says it's not their fault and will not fix their mistake. They also got nasty with the realtor on the phone. I bought my AC unit from ARS, it is a RHEEM 14 SEER. I couldn't pay the whole thing off so I had to sign up for a payment plan. The total cost is 8500. I bought it on September 26, 2016. Well it quit working because of a leaky joint in my tubing on July 16, 2019. That is less than 3 years. I did some research and if a joint in your copper tubing is leaking within 2-7 years, it is almost always manufacture error or poor installation. You would think that kind of issue is covered, and normally it is. But they are saying they are not at fault and neither is RHEEM. They say it is going to cost 1200 to fix and another 400 to fill back up with Freon. They wouldn't reason with me or explain why I am basically being blamed for the malfunction. They made me wait 13.5 hours before a tech showed up and my house was at 88 degrees by then. We are staying at my grandmas til I figure out what to do. Plus I still have my monthly payments to make on my defective unit. This company doesn't care about me, my family, or my unit. They are trying to rip me off and I don't know what to do. I highly recommend that you do not use these people for your HVAC needs, they have piss poor attitudes, lie through their teeth, and apparently do a shoddy job. Oh yeah, after it was installed they charged me for adding an extra return in my home but no such return was added. I contacted them about this 5 months later and asked to get a portion of my loan refunded. Instead they show up the next day unannounced and install the return while just my wife is home. Very unprofessional and I should have realized that day I probably made a huge mistake. using them.. Update: July 17, 2019 Carolina Cool technician came to my house in less than 2 hours of calling. I explained what the ARS tech told me and he then checked it for himself. He couldn't believe that the ARS tech said the job would take 4 to 6 hours and wanted to charge me 1500 dollars. He vacuumed the Freon, soldered the line, and loaded it back up with Freon. 20 minutes later it was all fixed and he handed me the bill. I braced myself and looked down and couldn't believe my eyes. $165.00. Essentially $1235.00 dollars less than what ARS wanted to charge me. Jamie was at my house in less than two hours and done in 20 minutes. ARS took 13.5 hours to get to my house, and charged me 59 dollars to fix nothing. It was only 59 because I had a coupon, originally it was 99 dollars. I think the results speak for themself. read more

A/C was blowing warm air so I called for their $59 check up. Said my Thermostat wire was bad, estimated it would take 2 men 8 hours to replace for $800. Called an electrician friend who helped me replace it in an hour and a half. If it took an amateur and a professional less than 2 hours, why would it take 2 professionals 8 hours? Just wanted to add, a couple of weeks after my review and service I got a phone call from a manager apologizing and trying to keep my business essentially. The call was nice but he said for my trouble he'd send me a gift certificate for a free hvac service. That was months ago and never got it. Then a couple of weeks ago I get a call to sell me hvac service. I don't know what's going on with this company but nothing they have done has made me any more confident in using their services. I contacted Angies List for a contractor to recharge my residential HVAC system, shortly after the inquiry I was contacted by ARS / Rescue Rooter Myrtle Beach and scheduled a service call appointment on 8/5/2021. I was at work but my wife was home upon the technicians arrival, he checked our system and informed my wife the freon was low and required that he perform a nitrogen a/c leak test and clean the coils at a cost of $3000. Next the Technician stated he would return at 4:00 with someone to discuss our options. At 4:00 a sales representative with ARS arrived with no technical knowledge of my system and stated he required an hour of my time to discuss options (i.e., sales pitch) for replacing my existing unit prior to providing any pricing. I requested a price to only recharge my system and was given a cost of $1750.00. This was outrageous and price gouging to the extreme. I contacted another A/C contractor and had my unit checked and fully recharged for $200.00. ARS negatively stigmatizes the A/C business and should establish morals and core values for their business and operate ethically. ARS is a company I will NEVER do business with and sincerely hope know one else will either. I do intend to file a complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection, FTC and Better Business Bureau about ARS and their unscrupulous practices. read more

They got right to work and we're finished in a very timely manner.They made sure the system was operating and that we knew how to operate the new thermostat. Company is Happy to Sell and Install systems in Florence, working out of Home Depot to find customers. BUT, forget it when it comes to service afterwards! Florence is too far from Myrtle Beach for them to keep their appointments that they set 2+ Weeks out, only to have them cancel the day before TWICE in a row, and then having the nerve to ask me if they can reschedule for another 3 weeks out! On top of that, this was after signing up for a "Service Plan", which they then had the gall to try to bill to my credit card after cancelling appointments twice. read more

Purchased a new Rheem HVAC system in mid 18. ARS maintained the unit. I just spent $558.00 to replace a defective part. This price is labor and Freon only. Price also included a $59 service call. I found out that in 2016 Rheem was involved in a class action lawsuit for selling HVAC units with defective copper parts. The parts being the copper fittings like mine that cracked. The HVAC worker (who was a good guy and the only reason I give it a 1 star) went straight to the copper fitting and found the crack. It seemed this wasn't his first time dealing with this problem. Overcharged.! Yes I was given an estimate before I agreed but never got a copy of the invoice on each item. Well I was charged 229.00 for a 30 dollar pop up drain item and 180.00 for labor which took no longer than 15 minutes. ( I already had the drain and trapped removed ). The issue is they were called to clear my bathroom drain which they did but the price was 299.00 including labor which was 100.00 more than a competitor .Why did I get charged a full service call for the drain pop up when they were already here for the roto service. 491.00 for at most an hour service. I understand overhead costs but this is unacceptable. Beware of ARS This has nothing to do with the gentleman who performed the work. I would like to dispute this charge but this honest review will be my way of recouping the overcharge. read more

Our system was purchased and installed by ARS. It is still under warranty. I called and set up an appointment. They were not able to send someone the same day. So made an appointment between 12:00 and 4:00 the next day. It was 85 degrees in the house. The scheduler told me that I could go about my business and they would call me 30 minutes before arrival. So I went about my business. It looked liked it was going to rain and I decided to cut the grass...a 20 min job. I saw they called while I was cutting the grass. I called immediately after I finished. They told me that since I didn't answer when they called, they were not going to come until tomorrow. Mind you it's 85 degrees in the house. I told them that was not acceptable and was told I had to be at home between noon and 4:00 and to go about my business. Not that I had to be on telephone alert. The agent was rude and refused to let me talk to a supervisor.... She was not empathetic and said we can get someone out tomorrow. I told her ARS would lose my business if they didn't get someone out like they promised....she didn't care. I called Cooper mechanical and they came out within an hour and did a superb job and honored our warranty. Won't ever use ARS again! They are horrible!!! read more

Made an AC repair appointment with "Courtney" for 1pm. Left work early...busted my butt to drive 1 1/2 hours to be at home by 1:00. ARS was subcontracted by Home Depot to remove the plumbing beneath the sink when we had new granite countertops installed. It was bad enough that they charged $275 just to disconnect and reinstall the plumbing with a new garbage disposal, but after the plumber arrived, he said that the outlet on the disposal was slightly lower than where the drain pipe entered the back wall, so he could not install it. To make matters even worse, they charged me an ADDITIONAL $200 to reinstall the plumbing WITHOUT a new disposal, even though it was their fault. To make a long story short, I (though not a plumber) bought a disposal that I installed myself and it works fine. I raised cane with Home Depot and they are at least crediting us $300 toward installation of backsplashes. Shame they had to compensate for ARS's screwup!! Stay away from these guys! read more

Called to check on my HVAC. Tech came and said the compressor needed a total replacement and wasn't working at all. Even though the house was cool and it was running moments before he got there. He was happy to refer me to a sales rep that priced out a whole new system. My system is 10 yrs old so is near replacing soon. They quoted me 11k for a 16 seer unit. When I said I was going to check away and what was the best they could do he quickly dropped it to 8k. I didn't realize it was like dealing in the old world of used cars. What happens to the poor folks who dont negotiate. Their printed material all had prices approximately 3k higher than what they came down too on all systems. Not trusting them I checked away and got an 18seer unit for the same price. Ars didn't even offer an 18seer and their 17seer is around 16k !! If you don't negotiate a lower price. So I purchased a new system from someone else and while my family cooked I called back and asked if there was any way it would run. He yelled at me basically and said I told you five times it's blown and the compressor is shorted out. Later that night I got to the beach. Cut on the system and it ran fine. Ran all night. He was totally full or it and rude. He lied to me and never even tried to help while my family roasted. If the compressor had been blown you could have at least left the blower on and circulated some air. But it's easier to sell new systems when the air is totally off !!! Ps. Don't let them dump that UV light antibacterial thing on you. For two systems the lights are 1000 and need to be replaced annually. They tried to also sell me for 3500. A new system to just run the lights. The new air handlers are plastic and the coils are coated with plastic. They don't sweat and they don't need the lights. Ars Doesn't sell these though. All their units they recommend the air purifier uv lights. Ha ! They are not to be trusted I learned later they are all on commission and paid low hourly wages so have to be pressured to sell !! We recently had an ARS service call from Wendell. As it turned out we needed a new compressor and several related parts replaced. All the parts were in stock and Wendell went to get them. When he returned he spent several hours getting our system up and running. It started to pour rain and Wendell put up a tent and finished the job, but didn't leave until 9 pm. We have had a service contract with ARS for over 9 years and our service calls were always prompt and for the most part satisfactory. This call however, was special as no employee of ARS was as knowledgeable and thorough as Wendell. He took ARS service standards to a level excellence, we had not witnessed before. My wife and I will always request Wendell for our service because we know it will be exceptional. read more

ARS was scheduled to complete an install/replacement of an AC unit on 7/8/20. After several calls and promises that they would complete the job, they NEVER showed up as promised. For a company that claims that customer satisfaction is important, that couldn't be further from the truth. For those of you who believe that your business matters, please understand that you are only 1 client in a pool of many and they have certainty displayed that. This company is the biggest rip-off. They don't charge by the hour for labor. They prorate the job according to the part they are replacing. My blower motor died and the part was under warranty as the unit was only 4 years old. They charged me $400 and it took less than 40 minutes to replace the part. I called to dispute the charges and they told me they had already discounted the job by $150. All kinds of overhead they claimed: Shipping of the part to their warehouse and having to ship the defective part back, pay the technician etc. Totally ridiculous! Wouldn't even reduce the charges by $30! Talked to a few neighbors and they all said the same thing. ARS is a big rip-off. Never again will I use ARS! read more

Recently purchased a condo and had ARS come out to service/inspect our water heater and AC unit. Had the plumber replace the kitchen spigot with a new one I had on hand... price seemed kind of high for 30 minute job ($250). I asked the plumber if he knew the HVAC tech that was coming out and he said no that he had never met or worked with him. Then the AC serviceman showed up and we did a review of the inside and outside units which I knew would probably end up needing to get a new unit. The HVAC tech indicated that he knew the plumber and they had did many jobs together and he was a great plumber... not sure why he would say that. Anyhow, based on the HVAC tech's review of my HVAC system I would need a new AC. ARS sent out their sales rep... felt like I was in a time share presentation. Price for a Carrier 3T 14 Seer started out at $13K and after about 40 minutes of discussions the price for a new AC unit came down to about $8.4K... still too high but neither the salesman or his supervisor would budge from the price. He tried to get me to sign up using they only had one appointment available and that prices were going up on Monday. After speaking with the guy I finally said thanks and I would contact him the next day with my decision. I contacted my HVAC guy in Utah to ask about the pricing and he said it was too high. I contacted the sales agent via email to terminate the discussion. Ended up going through my property management company using their HVAC company for the same AC model for $1300 less. read more

I had the capacitor replaced 9 years ago and the capacitor was $39 with a reasonable markup and the guy charged me $110.00 total. The technician was arrogant even before he arrived. More so afterwards as I told him that was outrageous. He said fine, I will pull that f'n thing out and you will sit here without any a/c. I said fine, get it and get out of here with that BS. I called another contractor and they explained the price was $145.00 for the capacitor, service call, and freon. Do not use this company I wrote a more detailed review on their page. I was surprised that ARS only had 2 stars. I should of checked it out before I hired them. Only problem I found was with the salesman and his many phone calls to his boss to get a price. The unit has not saved me any money on my electric bill but it is new unit. I hope it will last as long as the original one. After checking again Rheem is not a very good heat pump. It breaks down a lot according to Consumers Report. I am stuck with it so I hope it holds up without any major costs. read more

Of course one of the hottest days this year my air conditioner is not working. My daughter called ARS and they replaced a capacitor and said my coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. She paid $400 for that repair, $100 labor and $300 for the capacitor. I googled capacitor prices and the are $25 or less. Even if it was $50 that's a $250 over charge. The next day I expected a quote for the coil replacement but instead a salesman tried to sell me a new unit starting at over $9,000 (I googled new installed air conditioners... under $5,000 in this area). When I asked I received a quote to replace the coil, over $3,000. So I googled coil replacement, in my area, an average coil is $700 and for parts and labor $1,460. I called in another company for a second opinion. Coil is ok. He cleaned it and the outdoor unit and added a little Freon. Less than $200. I am a single woman and I felt they took advantage of my daughter and tried to take advantage of me. read more

If I could give this place a negative star or two I would. First off we called to request assistance from a technician around 9am in the morning. They took all day and finally arrived around 3pm to give us less than hospitable service and quoted us a price for replacement at around $6,000-$7,000 for a 900 SFT home. This company preys on the fact that you need AC as quick as possible and the fact that their product is permitted and warrantied. However, they fail to tell you if you do ever need service that you will still have to pay for it when services are rendered and its just fluffy language as a attempt to justify their astronomical quotes. Ended up getting a replacement for $2,900 with a 10 year warranty. read more

I couldn't be happier with the service that I received at ARS from beginning to end. Amber was incredibly helpful on the phone as well as being both pleasant and professional. Dustin was at my house in a timely manner and was a true gentleman. He even put on booties before walking on my carpet (Not necessary but still a nice touch). Dustin solved all of my plumbing problems and did it with a smile on his face! I would definitely use them again and would recommend ARS to anyone I know! read more

Had a tech come out recently and he quoted me a price of over $ 1000.00 to repair my heat pump. He wrote out an estimate then suggested complete system replacement. A salesman, Don, came out a few hours later and we discussed options for system replacement. He was a nice fellow but did some double talk that I figured out before he left. Quoted me $ 6300.00 and told me he would call his boss to get a bottom line price and pressured me to have a new system the next day. Price his boss gave him was $ 5500.00. I told him I was going to get another quote and he tried to pressure me some more. I politely said I was not going to go with them without another quote. Talked to a contractor friend who told me he thought ARS was a ripoff. He recommended an established company who I called, and they fixed my unit for $250.00. It turns out some of the parts the tech originally said I need were not even actually part of the unit. Beware this dishonest company, and 1 Hour and Carolina Cool. They are the most expensive in the Grand Strand. read more

I had a tech come out to run a diagnostic on my system, he determined / recommended I meet with another guy (Bobby) to measure/quote a complete system replacement on Saturday. I had another quote from earlier in the year and had an idea what the round about number should be. I also had done extensive research on system prices. Bobby came over and had a typical used car salesman approach. Not just any used car lot but the dirty type that will do anything to make the sale. He told ridiculous, insulting jokes to take my mind off of the price he was about to drop on me. He measured nothing,pulled his laptop out, opened it, didn't touch a button (not even sure it was on), and said "you paid 89.99 for the diagnostic right"? I said "yes", he said "I'll deduct that from your quote but how would you like if I just take off $500"? Of course I said sound great! He then hit me with a $7k quote. This is the same system I was already quoted $3400 for. I explained to him we were not even close on price and without hesitation he "call" his manger for a price reduction. The new price came back at $4400. Better but my trust was lost. I never received a paper quote from him or three other HVAC companies so on Sunday I emailed all of them asking for an actual quote so that can make my decision. Bobby called my wife and told her that the price was now $5800 and could be any lower unless we commit NOW! He called me later and tried hard to sell me on the system I was already sold on but would never give me an actual quote. I stopped him and had to demand that he send me some sort of paperwork or he would lose the customer. He send me a picture or a quote. I could go on and on about how I've felt super uncomfortable about this from the start but you get the idea. I went with ARS only because I needed it done ASAP and they were able to complete the job 2 day ahead of the others. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND GET OTHER QUOTES. They passed me around to everyone in the office and wouldn't give me a straight answer as to who would be coming out and when. Tried to talk to a manager, talked to Keith and he was supposed to call me back, never did. I called the office again and Franklin called me back, had to explain the situation to him, he didn't listen and passed me off to the scheduling receptionist. Called ARS as recommended by Home Depot. Our hot water heater had some issues and had developed a very small SEEP at the top element. The heater unit was 10 yrs old and as I had tried to drain it without success it was also full of sedement. it was also out of code for the area becuase of code changes in the last 10 yrs. Jonathan came to the house on a saturday afternoon and said he would be glad to evaluate the unit.. IE remove elements etc.. but I knew this would be a futile waste of money and the unit just needed replacing. I had done my homework already and knew about how much the replacement should be. He gave me a quote that matched the others so very fair. What really surprised me was that he had everything to do the job right there with him. He performed the job in a very timely fashion and the quality of work was tops. he even replaced the wiring to the unit to ensureit was ok (although I think the other might have been fine he didn't take any chances) Looking at other reviews and other companies it amazes me how many people feel entitled to the lowest price (at cost) --- PEOPLE PLEASE !!! EVERY COMPANY is in business to make money ..fairly but if they don't they go out of business . This company is VERY FAIR in it's pricing and above the bar on the service .
