I am a 25 year loyal customer with ARS. Have owned two homes and I've had them install two new AC unit units and furnaces. Just had annual service done on AC and as always I requested technician Michael Rodriguez... All of their techs are good, but he is exceptional. Always prompt, competent, professional, and polite. I am to a point where if I can't get him for the appointment, I reschedule until I can. It is rare today to find an employee who is consistently reliable, skilled, and goes above and beyond. I wish I could give this company zero stars. The service and treatment I received were absolutely unacceptable. On Monday, my tenant reported that the AC was not cooling properly, so he selected this company to inspect it. On Tuesday, a technician came out and claimed he fixed the issue with a "simple fix" and immediately charged me $109. He also recommended that I consider replacing the capacitor and start kit in the future, as those parts might need replacement later. However, by Tuesday night, my tenant informed me that the temperature still wasn't going down. I called the company again, and their Hvac service manager told me that the technician left the first time because I refused to replace those parts -- which is completely false and not what I was told during the initial visit. They re-dispatched the same technician, and this time that manager said it was a compressor issue requiring both parts to be replaced, quoting me $780. I called the technician and He firmly stated that both the capacitor and the start assist kit cannot be inspected individually and must be replaced together, which didn't make sense to me after consulting a friend who works in HVAC. After completing the work, the manager immediately called me while I was driving. I asked him to give me an hour to confirm with my tenant that the AC was actually working and could cool the room to the desired temperature using the Nest thermostat. Shockingly, this manager was unwilling to wait. He insisted that their job was done as long as the parts was replaced and they measured the air temperature is 63 F, implying they didn't care if the AC still wasn't cooling properly. He was extremely impatient. I explained that I needed 30 minutes to arrive at my office to make the payment, but he demanded immediate payment and even threatened to have the technician remove the parts if I didn't pay right away. I've never experienced anything like this. I didn't want my tenant to continue suffering without AC, so I had to find a place on highway to pull over--risking my safety while driving--just to make the payment...I was also late to work and nearly missed the company event on the noon, and I struggled with depression throughout the entire day. This experience was chaotic, stressful, and deeply disappointing. Throughout my conversation with the manager, I felt he was dominating the discussion and showed almost no patience for customer's concerns. The manager even told me not to waste his time, emphasizing that others were also experiencing AC issues and waiting for their 'rescue.' The entire interaction felt rushed, and they consistently used their authority in a way that made me feel dismissed. I've already filed a formal complaint and will continue to fight for my rights. (No idea why it says my location is Niagara Falls, but I can't edit that for some reason)... Our furnace went out, and ARS responded quickly for a service call (Nice dispatch team). The tech inspected it, and said three things were bad/broken, and the unofficial estimate would be $6000 to fix/replace all three items on a 20-year-old furnace, so he suggested we purchase a new system, which seemed realistic. We scheduled a salesman for the next day. A neighbor with HVAC experience stopped over, wanting to give a second opinion. He purchased a new computer board and installed it for us and had us running and warm at a cost of under $300. I'm not a reviewer-type, but there is an unfortunate pattern of these tactics in the reviews and I'd hate to see someone go into unnecessary debt and/or be taken advantage of in the way we almost were. read more

We chose ARS to install our system several years ago and thought they did ok, but their service is very poor and unprofessional. The system had some routine maintenance, but I was annoyed havening to provide and help set up my own hose with the tech and then being charge over 100$ just to watch him squirt the outside coils (I had to clean up as well). We again called for service when an electrical harness failed, and the tech replaced it with a temporary substitute part promising that he would return with correct harness. They never returned until I called again because the temporary harness failed. When a different tech showed up, he denied that ARS put in the temp part and charged me twice for the same repair and parts. On a second repair call, the tech said he didn't know how to fix their system and had to call a friend. A pattern of incompetence finally made me vow to never to business again with this top-heavy corporate organization that hires cheap incompetent technicians. I did not have any good experiences like the other reviewers here. Do yourself a favor and hire a locally run company. Be cautious of ARS and the HVAC side of the business. Be wary of their tactics. I requested a quote on an air conditioner replacement for my mother in law who is 91 yrs old. The end result was disappointing and concerning. First of all it should be worth noting that we are (were) a customer of ARS HVAC as such we had certain expectations. And the reason for the replacement was due to a coolant leak that ARS HVAC discovered during the annual service visit in early May. Background - The home needing the A/C replacement is 975 sq ft, a small 2 bedroom all brick ranch. The old A/C Unit is a 1.5 ton unit. More than adequate for the size of home. The result of the visit and resulting quote was a 2.5 ton unit. Why? The average person with no HVAC experience and average math skills can estimate, with fair accuracy, the size of unit needed. 1.5 ton. Not 2.5. And why 2.5 tons when the old unit in a 975 sq ft home was 1.5 tons. The owner is 91 and without the help of family would know no different. To me this is a company taking advantage of an elderly person. In case someone is wondering about the accuracy of my facts. I have the quote from ARS. They presented 3 SEER rated units from average efficiency to top of the line. However all units were 2.5 tons. We got two other quotes from competitors and all quoted 1.5 ton units. One even going far enough to tell us why 2.5 ton would be a mistake for a small home of that size. Think twice before going with ARS / Rescue Rooter HVAC and check what they propose. Some of their technicians must own stock in the company. I had my annual boiler check and the technician noted that the check valve on the condensate pump wasn't working. He said the check valve could not be replaced by itself and I should replace the entire pump. He quoted me around $500 to replace the pump. After I did a little research, I found out that I could purchase a new pump for around $70. Not only that, I found out that I could easily replace the check valve by itself for only $7. read more

Avoid these guys like the plague. Two days before a snowstorm their technician pestered my wife for an appointment to do the annual check-up on the furnace and we mistakenly accepted it. Apparently he did an inspection and found a crack and said that the furnace needs to be replaced immediately and it is not safe to run the furnace as it is leaking carbon monoxide! He shut off the furnace and said that it was not to be used. When we refused to succumb to his pressure tactics, he switched off the pilot and the fan and left us to freeze in the cold! However, another technician checked the furnace a few minutes later and said that there was no crack. He let it run for sometime and ensured that everything was running well. We have signed up with him for our periodic maintenance. ARS must be hiring their technicians from the school of used car salesman. They are absolutely useless. If you get a call from their technicians for an annual check-up, don't answer the call. There is absolutely no value there. You will be lured into spending thousands of dollars that are not needed. We scheduled our annual checkup of our A/C with ARS. Bob was our technician today. He showed up on time, and called before coming. Bob did a thorough and detailed job on our system, and worked straight through until he finished the job. He was respectful of our home as well. Yesterday we had our annual furnace inspection. The technician, Dave, was awesome. After he completed the task, he came up to us and spent a lengthy time THOROUGHLY explaining what he found and the implications for each finding. He went above and beyond to be sure we would remain safe and comfortable in our home (eg: testing for gas leak in hot water tank near furnace also). We have always gotten good service from ARS, but we don't recall anyone else ever taking the time to educate us about his procedures, testing and results. Avoid at all costs. Heater went out, so called them after finding in directory. Repair person comes over, looks at furnace for 10 seconds, then says "your furnace is shot" (that's literally what he said) and demands $94 for a "basic service fee." He couldn't even do the estimate for a new one (said another guy had do do that which had to be scheduled), he did zero diagnostics, and did not repair the furnace (it was still cold.) This guy was literally in my house 7 minutes, and charged me $94. Called to try to reschedule an estimate and they put me on hold, ultimately hanging up on me (!) I called a reputable company, they came over that afternoon, they did free diagnostics, told me exactly what was wrong and estimates for repair and replacement, and I had them install the new furnace the next day. Avoid ARS Pittsburgh at all costs. I think they are primarily a scam, just recommending replacement of devices after charging $94 to "take a look." They won't tell you about "diagnostic fees" in advance, then intimidate you into paying them after doing absolutely nothing. Others have said similar things -- very bad business model. I have called them to try to address the issue with their automated "Sue" survey system, with no response. DO NOT USE ARS Pittsburgh! read more

ARS came and did a full house install of heating and cooling. They left messes throughout the installation. They caused damage to my house that they were unwilling to repair. They had code violations on their install that my electrician noticed and I had to call them out on it. The work was generally low quality. On top of it all, I just discovered that they did the whole job without a proper building permit or inspection. Do not go with ARS. read more

ARS removed and replaced both furnace and central air. All done in a few hours. The salesman Mike was really helpful assisting me as to the best unit for my house. Two men did the work. Eric and his assistant was tops. Eric was very knowledgeable and removed and replaced the units within 6 hours. System is working great. Thanks ARS for a great job. I should have done this review a couple years ago. Two years ago after moving into my new home our furnace kicked, and I figured while I'm at it replacing the furnace I should do the AC too. The sales person for ARS came over and went through our whole house to measure rooms, etc. to determine what size systems we should get. Once we chose one the installation went in quickly, and efficiently. 10 years parts and service, plus lifetime warranty on Amana products is huge. Everyone I dealt with was extremely curious and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to use ARS for other homes in the future. Used this company to install a stainless chimney flue. What a fiasco! The two techs fought with each other over who was going up the ladder next, in front of me, the customer. Since I don't climb, I assumed they did a competent job. A short time later my roofer told me the liner had been installed very shoddily. Water was getting into my chimney because it hadn't been flashed properly. He showed me photographs, and he was right. I had to pay him to fix it, because I certainly wasn't going to let those two back up there. I contacted the company and demanded reimbursement for the repair. They wouldn't even talk to me. The reason I'm submitting this now is because I just got a call from these guys offering to service my furnace. I've used ARS two times. Once to install 14 new ball valves in all my water lines including my main line. And second, my coupler on my heater pump broke. The repair man saved me money by recommending to wait based on my problem so I wasn't paying the emergency fee. Also asked me to send him pictures to his cell so he would know my heater system and could see the components. Next day service, had parts on there truck, reasonable repair fee even bought the home protection plan. Not sure why other left such bad feedback. They must be nuts! The workers have no attention to detail with a "bare-minimum" attitude. I bought a new furnace and a new air conditioner. I had to have them return just to level the air conditioner pad. They ran a new duct which does not function at all and they did not secure the floor boards that they had to cut out for this new duct. Any issues I had with the installation were challenged and they did everything they could to dance around coming back to fix anything. I thought since they were a bigger company they would be the way to go but I would not recommend them or use them again. Avoid. read more

These guys are a bunch of clowns. It took days for someone to come out to diagnose - for $94- the hole in our pipe that we knew we had. Then they did not contact us to schedule the repair. When we called, they said sorry we can't do anything for four maybe five more days. If they can't even schedule work, it makes us question their ability to repair anything.
