I had a wonderful experience at this groovy haircut store in the basement of some ancient bank in the same building as the bagel shop. I hadn't had a haircut in forever, and I think you usually need to do an appointment. But when I poked my head in, a lady asked and invited me to come back in about 45 minutes if I wanted to get a haircut. And so I did! They did a forehead infrared thermometer check and everyone and I also wore masks and I finally got a good haircut for the first time in a long time. It's a great place! I once had a great haircut by Aaron, so I couldn't go anywhere else for a haircut. It was to a level, I waited one month for a haircut so I can get it from him. My initial haircut was rescheduled for 2 weeks after my request failed due to his personal matter, and I had to make a reschedule for a haircut by him which he was unavailable for 2 weeks as well, therefore here I was at the haircut appointment I waited most in my entire life. I am not a professional haircutter by any means, I know how I generally like my hair and that's about it. I usually don't pay too much attention to be able to talk while getting a haircut or smile, sure it's great but if it didn't occur it's not the end of the world. We really didn't talk about anything aside from him asking my 3rd time with him, the same question he asked the other two times: where I worked?? In the end, long story short, I didn't like my haircut, I wanted it shorter, then he complained that the time to end for the scheduled haircut already hit, it's been 30 mins. I mean, I respect everyone's time, and as much as I respect my time, I literally run late to a quarterly meeting due to my longer-than-usual haircut. But him complaining to me about me not being happy about his haircut this time was quite shocking. In the end, I told him no don't use the machine for the top of my hair, guess what he did, he used the machine anyway. He had already cut the sides of my hair with the machine as well. I literally told him also that if he is going to use a machine for all of my hair, why do I need a professional to do my haircut? I can cut at home myself. He laughed saying "Professional"? I am not quite sure why because I would consider my haircut to be professional at what he does. If all we need is a machine to cut our hair like how sheep get haircuts, why do we need haircutters? After all, not only I don't like how my hair looks, but I also didn't like his attitude, I also didn't like when my appointment was canceled, someone didn't request to make it up by scheduling a new appointment that can be sooner than another two weeks, I didn't like they gave me 10$ coupon for the inconvenience of cancellation but it was for me to remember to let them know about it. Things like this don't occur at an organized professional business that doesn't take time over the quality of haircut and happiness of customers. A total shift from my first visit, me being offered a beer having a great haircut too, having a bad haircut, arguing over, and having canceled scheduling causing 1-month delay. I hope I am the one-off, unreasonable customer that will not have their services. read more

This place used to be great. You could grab a beer and get a really good cut. It's a cool place with a cool vibe. But since Covid, no more beer--completely understandable. The issue is that I am a person that likes to have the same person cut my hair. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to find someone and stick with them because they are constantly moving or fluctuating with another location. I go to schedule a week in advance and there are no openings for my barber for like a month and a half. It's not because they are booked up, it's because they are at a different location. Lauren cut my hair and gave me the under nape buzz I wanted; honestly the happiest I have been with a cut in forever. She is super friendly and listened to what I wanted and I got exactly that. The place has a very cool vibe and feels really friendly. The best thing is the pricing! They don't charge more for women's cuts like everywhere else, so my shampoo, cut, buzz, and advice on the best products to use came to $30! Literally one of the worst haircuts I've gotten. Don't let Brody be your barber, she doesn't know how to follow simple directions. And the staff is rude as well, I called by phone and when I didn't hear the lady on the other end the first time she said something she practically started screaming at me and then talked extremely condescendingly to me the entire conversation. Salon is hipster... but the reason you go to the barber is to get a haircut and we were not satisfied with the outcome. I just moved to Durham and was looking for a cut. A friend of mine from work recommended Pedro Williams and I am so glad he did. Scheduling was easy, though you may have to schedule a week or more in advance. But it is worth it. When you walk in you are welcomed and offered a complementary drink, which was much appreciated. Dee cut my hair and she was incredible. She knows what she is doing, and she makes sure she does it right. She doesn't rush and I got up out of the chair feeling great about my cut. I'm currently a college junior, and have been going to Pedro since freshman year. I've never had a bad experience here in the many times I've been here. The location is incredibly convenient for any Duke students living on East Campus. (about a 10 minute walk from dorms on the main quad, and less for those that aren't) I've seen four different hairstylists/barbers here, not due to unsatisfactory haircuts but just based on availability when I needed a haircut on short demand, and they've all been incredibly knowledgeable about how to cut my hair. As an Asian male with thick, stubborn hair, their advice and expertise in knowing how to navigate dealing with it relieve a great deal of stress I normally have when dealing with barbers in the past. Talk about jumping the shark. Two and a half years ago I had a phenomenal experience at the Cameron Village location. An amazing stylist, a great shave, a beer while I waited, bookable online - perfect. When they moved this stylist to the Downtown Raleigh location, I followed. All was well until several months ago, when there seemed to be a dramatic shift in how the online scheduling system was managed. After two failed appointment attempts, the second of which left me waiting for two hours to get "worked in" only to watch both the stylist and receptionist leave for lunch without saying anything, I started going elsewhere. My work recently brought be closer to Durham and I thought I'd give Arrow/PW another shot. I checked availability online, and booked an appointment with a well rated stylist. I showed up 30-min early and verified with the receptionist both my appointment and stylist. About 20-min later, they decided to move me to a different stylist irrespective of my appointment and tried to pawn it off as a scheduling glitch (regardless of the receptionist having previously verified my appointment and stylist upon arrival). I guess the person who my appointment was with had more important customers. I let it slide, as I had no prior history with any of the stylists working that day - and figured I'd give someone else a shot. This was a mistake. The new stylist spent 4-5 min cutting my hair, then asked if I wanted product. Surprised, I asked if he was finished, and he said "what else you want me to do?". I can't say that I walked out feeling good about the cut, but I definitely received the guaranteed shorter hair. I'm done rolling the dice with Arrow. The novelty of free beer and a (broken) online scheduling system has worn thin. But it's the total lack of customer service that has really sealed the deal. read more

After losing the girl that had been doing my hair for almost two years I went on the search for a new hairstylist/barber. (I have all my hair shaved except the middle). I scheduled with Eliza based off the reviews. The first time I saw her she told me how damaged my hair was (I have purple hair so I believed her). She wanted to cut a whole lot more than I was used to and it upset me a bit, but I figured- why the hell not? So she did. I left and immediately started getting compliments on how good my hair looked!! I've been to Eliza two more times and each time I am extremely satisfied and pleased. The last time I saw her, I told her to do whatever she felt would look best on my hair. I have NEVER told any hairstylist that. I've been here ~5 times. They're professional, friendly, and do a good job, for a pretty reasonable price. You get a free beer from full steam, which is also nice. I've been late a few times and they didn't hold it against me, which I appreciate. It is run by the same people as Arrow Haircuts in Raleigh, which is also good. They didn't name the one in Durham arrow, because there is already an unaffiliated Arrow Salon, which is an interesting story. I've been going to the same barber forever and I finally decided that he just wasn't meeting my expectations anymore. That's when I found Pedro Williams on Yelp. It was almost hard to not try this place considering it is the only barber shop in Durham with 5 stars. So today I decided to stop in. Walk-ins are welcomed, however the kind woman on the phone assured me that an online-scheduled appointment would be best. The shop was a bit hard to find because it is tucked right behind Brueggers, but it can be easily located once you see the neon "Fresh Cuts" sign. Upon first entry, you could tell this place meant business. The wallpaper was made from pages of magazines (it's sick), there were classic barber chairs, and awesome music playing in the background. I had an appointment with Eliza. She was super cool and we had a great chat while she was giving me THE BEST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF GETTING. She took her time, making sure everything was just right. When I though it couldn't get any better, she shaved my neck with a straight razor. A STRAIGHT RAZOR. I had never experienced this before! My mind was blown out of proportion. Bottom line: This place gives killer haircuts at an extremely reasonable price. This new barber shop on Ninth Street met my expectations as far as service (my hair is indeed shorter) but with a minimum of frills. Finally an Arrow branch out in Durham! While I was in college, I would exclusively get my hair cut at the the two arrow branches in Raleigh due to their great reputation, friendly prices, and great haircuts. After moving back home, it was difficult for me to find a place that I liked, and more importantly, trusted with my hair. But alas, my prayers were answered in the form of Pedro Williams. I've gotten my hair cut here over a handful of times by Amanda, Eliza, and Lauren and have been pleased every single time. The laid back atmosphere and trendy stylists complete this gem of a barbershop, and to boot - free beer. I suggest this place to all my fellow dudes in the Durham area, and will definitely be returning myself for the foreseeable future. read more

I've been getting crappy haircuts at various locations in Durham for a year since I moved back (the terrible sports themed place on 9th, a barbershop at American Tobacco and another place on 9th). FINALLY, I got a great haircut at Pedro Williams from Eliza!! I highly recommend the place and the stylist. Eliza was really thorough and precise; she even trimmed my beard. All at a very reasonable price too. The icing on the cake was the complementary can of Full Steam Cackalacky. I'm so happy to have found an awesome barbershop.
