I can count on Gentry at Renaissance Barbershop to keep my son looking sharp. It was hard finding someone for my son's interracial hair. The fades and cuts were always messed up prior to Gentry. Now my 4-year old's fades, lines and curls are perfect. We get the most compliments. I love the online scheduling. There is no real wait times. When we walk in, they make us feel like family every time. While my son gets his haircut, I work on my laptop with free WiFi. In and out in 30-minutes. read more

Cory is a great barber. He's well mannered and supper respectful. He does a great job cutting and making sure you are comfortable. He cuts all styles of hair. I've seen him cut African American, whites and Mexican hair. He also does a great job with time management. He doesn't slow or to fast. He's always right on time with his appointments as well. Great barber 5 stars to the shop and Cory. The shop is one of the cleanest, best shops in the area. read more

My family and I were preparing for a trip out the country and needed a haircut. Was able to be seen by Micah and was taken care of. Music was playing but the barbers made sure that it wasn't inappropriate around my kids, which I greatly appreciated. We'll come again. read more

I had my haircut with Jordan today. My wife came in with me and she had the biggest smile on her face when I was done. The haircut was fantastic, my beard was lined up great, and Jordan was very professional throughout. Very chill and welcoming vibe. I'll be back! read more

Exceptional service and consistently perfect cuts. I go with my son, and although we have completely different hair types (his is very fine, while mine is a mix of 4a and 4c), they nail it every single time. They're also wonderful with children. The attention to detail and customer care is simply outstanding. read more

I love these guys and lady. Its a different level of hair cut by REAL Barbers. Its that good, but there is more to it than just getting your hair cut. Its always a friendly community of people. Super Clean.... Shout out to Jordan who puts up with my humor. Also Erica the Queen of the shave and beard. But then there is Bernard, The man of amazing professional talent at work. After work though Bernard has to be left alone I hear on the grapevine. Just too many ladies knocking on his door lol . I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! Going to be trying the new First Friday event. . Had some amazing "Level 2" cuts here, with sharp lines and amazing fades. About a week ago, went in and paid the premium price for a "Level 3", their highest level. This guy was goofin' and laughin' with the other barber and customer, but it was fun and I figured he was a master. No. I asked for a buzz cut and a 1-inch beard. He gave me a buzz cut that had I gotten it at Great Clips I'd have gone "well, at least it was only $10." He also cut my beard way too short, uneven - sharp on some parts and smooth corners on others. , ' to look at my face in the mirror. When I reached out, they told me I could come in for a touch-up. But my hair's already very short, I don't want to lose more. They did not offer a refund nor a credit - I guess I'd need to come in in several months and try to convince them I deserve it from last time. Having moved nearby this had been my only barbershop for almost 4 years in May ... but after this experience, I'm done. (Note that my partner had a similar experience with him over a year ago, but I had had such great cuts that I assumed the error may have been describing what they wanted - no. I was a fool. I should have listened.) read more

Yesterday (03/21/19) was my first time at renaissance barbershop and it will be my last. $21 plus tip was too much to be cut up. I left knowing I had redness and swelling. Today the swelling was gone but it is evident I was cut. You win some and lose some. Yesterday I lost. Now I am left with this embarrassing cut on my face. On a positive note, everyone did seem friendly and the place was clean. read more

I was overcharged, $30, for a poorly done haircut that took less than 10 minutes. No proper trim around the ears leaving long stray hairs which were longer than the final cut. read more

This shop is a mainstay in the community it has been here since I built my house I think back in 2006 now I might be wrong about that beginning date but I feel like it's been here that long. anyway I'm not a regular because I don't get my haircut in that way. But when I want to look sharp and clean. I will usually drop in and they try their best to squeeze me in. But you really probably should try and schedule an appointment, there that busy here. I wish I was disciplined enough to pick a barber and stick with it but I would probably just piss them off from canceling appointments it's just my lifestyle doesn't allow it. But this is one of the few places I can go where I know I'll get a good haircut and my wife usually says wow I like your beard keep it like that.lol read more

I will definitely continue to visit Renaissance! It is so easy to make an appointment online. My barber, Jason, was punctual and gave me a great cut. I hope the business continues to flourish because we certainly need it around here. read more

Have been going to Renaissance for a couple of years now. More recently, Nicole (Nikki) has been cutting my hair and she has always left me looking sharp and smiling! Another update for my review: My regular barber of about three years left. The FourSquare deal has been eliminated. They've changed the online interface to schedule appointments and the new system isn't as easy-to-use as the old one. I've been chased to making appointments by phone. I realize that's a First World Problem, but it was so convenient before! The last few times I've been in with an appointment, I had to wait about 10 minutes after my scheduled time to be seated. One trip was well beyond 10 minutes. The cut is still quality, but you pay a little more here than at other barbershops. If you find the right barber here, or go on a specific recommendation, then Renaissance could still be a good move for you. But for me, given some of these changes, I'm sorry to say that I'm looking elsewhere now. read more

Been going here for over 18 months for a reason. Consistently a good experience and haircut. I pay a premium to get cut by the owner but you get what you pay for. I recommend this place to everyone, good vibes, good music, TVs everywhere and good company. read more

It's pretty much your standard barbershop. It is not a 'salon'. In other words, go there if you have the typical guy haircut; don't look for anything fancy. If you don't have an appointment, expect a wait. The barbers have their regular customers and will try to squeeze them in. Took me a few times before I figured out who I liked and didn't like to cut my hair. read more

This place is absolutely professional. The modern family-friendly atmosphere, and the top-notch service of the staff makes renaissance barber shop stand out. My haircuts always look sharp and clean. From the smooth R&B to the friendly greeting, you know this place is first class right off the bat. I had a little bit of time to kill before a college football game and needed a haircut. I stumbled into this place sight unseen. I was quickly greeted and paired with Jeff for my walk-in haircut. Everyone in the establishment gave me a friendly greeting. I was very fortunate to have Jeff as my barber (I would have felt comfortable with any of the other friendly barbers). He is first rate. He was very accommodating and asked questions to make sure my cut came out perfect. Understanding that he had never met or cut my hair before, he went above and beyond. If I am in Durham again, there is no other place I would get a haircut. read more

Since the start of quarantine and the virus known as COVID-19, a lot of what we consider to be normal and fun has been limited. However my experience at The Renaissance Barbershop today was nothing short of amazing. From the very start the professionalism was excellent and the precautions to keep the employees and the customers safe was organized and easy to follow. Not to mention the online scheduling was a very easy process to follow and complete. I then got to meet Corey Bell who was my barber for this afternoon. I could immediately tell that he had the experience as well as a fun personality that would make this haircut memorable. I asked him for a high fade cut and showed him a picture I had found online. He said this was no problem. As I was getting my hair cut in the chair it felt like things had gone back to normal with the fun atmosphere and conversations about music and movies. The rest of the staff was also taking part in the conversations and gave it a great atmosphere which allowed you to feel right at home or even had the essence of talking with old friends. After the cut was complete I was given a mirror to check the final look and I was very impressed with the cut. Corey is definitely your guy to go with when you need a haircut for any occasion he can get the job done and make it a great experience. Please give The Renaissance Barbershop a chance and I can assure that you will be pleased and happy with your experience as I was! I will definitely be making this my permanent place for getting a haircut for now on and can't wait to go back again, thanks Renaissance Barbershop and a special thanks to Corey! read more

The first time I went to this barbershop, I was out with my wife at Old Navy. It's a great shop with a cool feel (The decor is really contemporary). If you live in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, you definitely need to check out the Renaissance Barbershop. read more

Poor customer service. Walked in without having an appointment because the sign outside says "Walk-ins Welcome". This place can cut hair but the customer service is piss poor they will have people waiting and sit down and eat and joke around instead of cutting hair. They also were rude because I was 5 mins late and had no respect for me as a customer. read more

I'm new to the area, and it's always hard to find a new place to get your haircut. After a bit of searching around, and checking review, I tried Renaissance Barbershop. My haircut was so bad that afterward I drove over to Fantastic Sam's and had them clean it up (you can't make stuff like this up!). I was hopeful at first; the place is clean inside, and my stylist was friendly. But within about 10 minutes it was clear that he really had no idea what he was doing. First, I asked for a trim, and he started in with electric clippers, literally chopping my hair off. Then, when I realized what he'd done, I asked him to blend it in - I ended up with the hair on my left side, the top and the right side all different lengths! They also seat everyone so you're facing away from the mirror, which I find unnerving because you can't see what the stylist is doing to your hair. I honestly would've been better off cutting my hair myself. If you're looking for a buzz cut, this place would be great. I just needed a quick trim and walked out with one of the worst haircuts I've ever had (and I'm not that picky). The Fantastic Sam's at Southpoint is less money, and the lady there fixed my haircut in 10 minutes. read more

I love this barbershop!!! This is a "PEOPLES" kind of barbershop that offers the best service to everyone. I have received so many compliments on my haircuts since making my first appointment with Tim McIntosh Jr. He takes his time to ensure that I'm satisfied with my cut. You won't find inappropriate language / behavior at this barbershop either; you feel a sense of honor and pride when you walk thru the door! I drive from Raleigh to Durham almost every week because I know I will receive quality service every time!!!! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. I had my hair cut here six times and none of them was satisfactory and above the market price by almost 3-4 dollars. Also, they are NOT customer-oriented and they don't respect the appointments they make. I only come here because it is kind of close to where I live. Yesterday I got very disappointed by the way I was treated. Despite the fact that I had an appointment at 8 o'clock in the morning and I was there in time, I had to wait for almost 20 min after my scheduled time. What really bothered me is that no one even apologized for the delay and both the barber and the receptionist acted as nothing has happened. I sent I feedback email to the barbershop, and as expected, I received no response till this moment which shows how unprofessional they are. If they cannot comply with their appointments, simply don't make them! read more

Some of the barbers here are good. Usually go to Jayson but had Corey once and they did a great job. I went in last time to get a cut to only be informed 5 minutes beforehand that my appointment was cancelled. I understand that life happens, but I had an interview that day. I asked if one of the other barbers could give me a haircut but they told me no even though there was a 30 minute gap on the schedule online. Waited about an hour for jayson to get to work only for Kevin to tell me that I still couldn't be seen because there was a 10:00 appointment that still wanted to come in, although mine was at 9 and I had waited. Very unprofessional and will not return. read more

I read the mixed reviews online, but decided to try it out because I wanted a cheap, simple haircut. It turned out well! This place looked great online but was very disappointing. I had a long wait despite the place being relatively empty. The place was pretty untidy and the staff were none too friendly. As far as the haircut, if you're going in for a buzz cut you should be alright. Otherwise, steer clear. My barber was very shear-happy. I had to end up getting hair re-cut somewhere else. Durham is a tough place to find a good barber. The only decent one I've found so far is American Tobacco. read more

The barbershop was very clean and customer service was very good. I liked the whole appointment system problem is you don't get to meet the barber or talk to the barber to see if they can even perform the haircut. I asked for a shadow fade and wanted my beard to be faded into my haircut and didn't even receive that. I don't even think he knew what that was. My haircut is nice just wish they would've asked questions and at least tried to come out and say I don't know how to do it and asked another barber if they could or something to accommodate. read more
