When stuff like this happens, others tend to think it's been a back and forth situation. However, this is not! It's literally my daughter and me making the best of whatever was happening around us, getting through our lives, then people who should be trustworthy, throwing us under the bus. Holding us to standards they have not held themselves to. It was made clear to Arrive multiple times since move in, that I don't want to be involved with negativity, and I took steps to avoid it at all cost.
Don't expect to do anything that requires privacy in your unit. The upstairs "roommates" are ALWAYS listening! You definitely cannot be intimate or have private convos! The unit upstairs can hear every convo, every toilet flush, every fart. I run the bath water a lot to create a sound barrier. Zero privacy! They follow me from room to room, and for some reason never ever leave the apt. I have to leave to take private calls, or text my child, even if she's next to me, because after months of being here, we learned it looks private, but it's not. The negligent part, you have no idea who's been privy to your info, or what they heard before you realized the transparency. Private moments that are supposed to be sacred, in your bedroom, we've never had that here!
The unit was supposed to be fully renovated, but it wasn't. It wasn't cleaned, I was still cutting dog hair off the wheels on the closet door two weeks ago. When I brought it up to the manager, I was told that SJ had already approved the unit and that no upgrades would be made. Which is not what the agent told me when I viewed the unit. The rent remained the same. The renovated unit was leased to be the backdrop for content to move my business forward, but the cabinets are in such bad condition, that we've had to wrap them in wallpaper just to get any content in the kitchen. The wood floors are severely damaged, and the carpet was never cleaned. We still made the best of it. There was a three or four month stretch were my daughter and me, and most of the residents had no hot water, literally only freezing cold water. A lot longer than the 24-72 hour requirement for Arrive, and still made the best of it. Weeks without the elevator, couldn't move in for another five weeks after receiving the keys because the elevator was down, and no one offered a reimbursement for the month. The elevator breaks frequently. There was a box of Butcher Box seafood rotting in the hallway for several weeks, creating the most pungent smell, and magots. The carpet in the hallways are now littered with pee stains and it wasn't like that when we moved in. Arrive will manipulate your account! Will say they served notices that were not, if they want you to move, so they can renovate the unit that they cheated you out of. There was a major privacy breach involving an adult male from a neighboring unit, and Arrive failed to notify myself, or my minor daughter of the safety concern. When it was brought to Nick, the next email from Arrive notified me that they were moving forward with the eviction. The frequent fire alarms don't help. You eventually become immune to the almost daily human fecal matter, around the building. Arrive expects the rent payment but is taking zero accountability for cheating us out of the renovated unit, that we paid for, which I needed for my business. It was the entire reason we chose this building. The state of the current unit is not acceptable to associate my business with, and we were never once rude to any staff because of it!
**** Their response is bullshit and just saving face. Because after we've successfully paid $90,860 for rent, they bypassed the 3- day notice, denied accepting rent for the past three months, which has been available through the Santa Monica Renters Aid since they contacted me on August 18th, so they can move forward with eviction! After rebuilding stability for my daughter, which was affected by a separate discrimination issue here in Santa Monica, that we're still dealing with, Arrive Seaside is now choosing to, through no fault of our own, destabilize her again! In the middle of four AP classes, full ride scholarship offers to universities including Pepperdine, and finally returning to normalcy after the Palisades Fire. Because they want to renovate the unit, and make more money, a rent increase was added for $197.42, on top of the full rent amount for the fully renovated unit, that we never received. So they are moving forward with an illegal eviction, and following this review, set the trial date the following morning, submitted a 120 page motion, and asked for a judgement prior to the jury trial, because I'm having to represent myself, for my minor daughter and me to illegally lose our home! Then have the eviction threatened against my bruised credit, yet no one can tell us, what we've done wrong, nothing! All of these issues have gone unaddressed, 8 free weeks are being offered, but they're attacking a disabled SM and a minor. read more
