I booked this hotel last minute, and I was beyond impressed and happy with my time there! The reception staff was unbelievably friendly and I was able to check into my room early because it was ready. I was in the lower level, where it had just been freshly painted. The room was incredibly clean and looked like it had just been refurbished. Comfy bed, beautiful bathroom for the situation, and a lovely night's sleep! Arran House Hotel has a strange balance of providing just enough so you're not entirely uncomfortable, but so little that there's really nothing to rave about. 3.5 stars for achieving this level of mediocrity. As with most places in London, the hotel is old. The location was great, just a short walk to the Underground, the rooms are fairly clean and a basic English breakfast was included in the cost (beans, sausage, toast, tea). There was a shared shower and toilet on each floor and the water was not always hot. Unlike the States, most of the world seems to have much lower water pressure and less consistent hot water (a shame, but I suppose it's less wasteful). Helpful tip: You need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap. The staff was satisfactory. They provided basic services and did their jobs, but did not go out of their way to be friendly or helpful. This was not a big deal to me because I rarely stayed at the hotel. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and it would be unrealistic of me to expect any more from this hotel given the cost per night. London is an expensive city, so Arran House Hotel is a good option for the budget traveler seeking a good location and a place to sleep. read more

I stayed here again in March and I have to downgrade them. After I specifically asked NOT to be put into the room next to the kitchen, guess where we ended up? Of course. So, I put earplugs in and asked the front desk to call us (no clocks) for breakfast and when we woke up it was noon! I ran upstairs and found out that it's an automated system and someone forgot to put the data in. They moved us the next day to a room on the 3rd floor but this room was a CLOSET. I have pictures, I'll have to upload. So, all in all, a clean place, but the rooms are either noisy or very very small. I wouldn't stay here again unless I was had no place else to go. read more

Very nice quarters with a quant and cozy atmosphere. Rakesh was wonderful in providing dinning suggestion. Fan and frig were provided. Room was a room. I did not go to London to fret about my accommodations. Breakfast was awesome and the ladies who served it did a fantastic job. For some reason, 3 stars seem like I didn't like this place, but on the contrary, I would totally recommend this hotel (to the right person, of course) and when I make another trip to London, I will definitely consider this hotel again. The location is super convenient and the place is affordable. But one or two things did bother me, so it was definitely not perfect. Keep in mind, I'm not very fussy when it comes to accommodations. Just give me the bare essentials (bed, bath, electricity, wifi, etc) and I'm good to go. Right now, I'd much rather allocate my funds elsewhere for my vacations. The rooms themselves are incredibly small - this is not a complaint, I don't mind it but I'm sure others may be more claustrophobic. Everything was clean and functional, no bugs or pests from what I can see. The wifi was rather slow and a bit spotty. The people I've bumped into during my stay have been pretty friendly. The free breakfast was surprisingly good: standard English breakfast with eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, and tomatoes. There were also small single-serving boxes of cereal, assorted fruit, and toast with butter or jam. There were also coffee, tea, juice, and milk. Each floor shares the same bathroom/shower. I would have happily given them 4 stars if their shower water were actually hot - it was slightly warm, but I like it HOT. I like to think that showers are pretty universal, so I don't think I'm some dumb American fiddling around with it, not knowing how hot and cold water works. Overall, I'm impressed with what I received for the price I paid for. London can be pretty expensive, and this place is a great option for someone that doesn't need the fanciest hotel. read more

I almost never bother to review things, but felt compelled to give a shout out to Arran house. My husband and I stayed here in 2007 in December, and back again for the London Olympics in 2012. We loved it so much we booked for the full week we were in London. It's very very affordable, the proprietors really seem to care about giving a quality experience, everything is clean, centrally located in a charming neighborhood around the corner from the British Museum, and the breakfast in the morning on the lowest level is great. Both times we stayed in a room on the top floor, with the shower down the hall. We've always found the bathrooms to be clean and no wait to use them. I believe there is also free Wi-Fi. You can't go wrong here! We loved it and will always go back! Just referred someone today! read more

The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that I don't want to give people the impression that it's The Ritz. It's not, it's a Bed & Breakfast, and a damn fine one. My wife and I have stayed here 5 times, and each visit was just as good as, if not better than the rest. The location is great. It's in a nice neighborhood within walking distance of a tube station, a good Pub, an ATM, and a market. The hotel (B&B) is clean, comfortable, and charming. The staff is wonderful. They are friendly, helpful, and attentive to the needs of their guests. The breakfast buffet is great (lots of good stuff, as opposed to just danishes and cereal). They have internet AND a laundry room they let you use for a reasonable fee. On sight laundry is cool. My wife & I usually grab a few cans of lager at the market, and do our laundry while were sorting out our luggage and itinerary. I highly recommend this establishment, and I'm looking forward to going back in February. read more

Great location and a short walk to the Goodge Street tube. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included, which is nice. The street noise didn't disturb me at all and I'm a light sleeper. read more
