The hotel itself is situated around about 3 minutes walk from the Kensington Gardens, down a road lined with obviously expensive houses and offices in true London style. Whilst not difficult to find, the hotel does not stand out from these but is instead quietly situated in a rather inconspicuous manner midway up the street. Upon entering the hotel you are greeted with a very professional and well presented reception, with smartly dressed staff ready to assist. Check in was painless, with our host advising us of our room number and the floor it was situated on. Service with a smile. We made our way to the elevator, which unlike in some choice hotels we have stayed in, was a fast and smooth ride. We judge alot based on an elevator ride, as after all it is one of the first impressions you get in a multifloor hotel. A bumpy ride leaves for a disgruntled guest.Upon entering our room, we are first hit with the size of our accommodation. The room is not small, but then you are not going to be able to swing a cat either. However it comfortably fits in a desk upon which a TV is set, a seperate desk with a wonky glass top, and a queensized bed with lighting fixtures on either side. The bed is clean with freshly laid sheets, and a wardrobe for the better half's garments, complete with a complimentary safe for our valuable treasures. All in all, we were happy. The bathroom raised some concerns, as room was obviously a luxury that could not be afforded in the Throne room. I am a sizeable chap in the sense of height (and granted, a little in girth), and it was a bit of a squeeze to get into the bathroom and turn to close the door without first tripping over the toilet and spilling into the tub. The tub in itself was far too short for a fellow like me, and upon my evening bathe I found my knees to be somewhat close to my chest, rather than the stretched out pamper position we so keenly desire. This along with the extremely slow to heat water (I'm talking 5 minutes to become lukewarm), and the chest height shower did not leave for a comfortable ablutions break. All that aside however, it did have a working towel heater and trouser press. Something I looked forward to was the 24 hour room service that was offered as part of your stay. This was a service I intended to use to the point of abuse, only to find that the service stopped after 10pm due to renovations in the kitchen. That was annoying, but did not stop us ordering some lunch to satiate our hunger. A quick call later and we sat comfortably in the knowledge of my impending steak and onion ring feast, her burger and chip deluxe, and a dessert of banana split complete with three types of ice cream. Needless to say, our expectations were high. The steak left alot to be desired, as I requested rare but received scorched. I cant say the charcoal left a pleasant after taste, but this is something I have become accustomed to of late. The chips and salad were nice enough, and I believed my beautiful other enjoyed her burger. The thing we were really looking forward to was the banana split. I was slightly miffed that this had been delivered with the meal as opposed to 15 minutes later, as this meant by the time we had finished, there was more cream than ice. Regardless however, it was still rather divine and a pleasant finish to the meal. All this for £64 including tray surcharge was not horrific and in london, certainly not to be baulked at. The breakfast next morning was typically standard, with a set £12 cost an an all you can eat entitlement. Essentially what this meant was that we paid £24 between us for one english breakfast, a bowl of coco pops and a banana. I guess we have no one to blame than ourselves. The toaster left something to be desired, being one of those annoying 'feed me your bread and I magically drop it to the crumb splattered tray below as toast' devices that at best, only heated your bread as opposed to browning it in anyway. Maybe I am just picky. In all, we did have a rather pleasant stay and for the price, it was not a bad hotel at all. I would not hesitate to stay here again should the need arise, but I would also not choose this if money were not as much of a factor as it is right now. I would happily give the hotel an 8 out of 10 with all factors included. The only things stopping this from getting a higher score is the bathroom, the lack of 1am room service, and the sneer of the breakfast waiter, which made you just want to lob an apple at his face. read more
