Back from our time in Paris, this was our first stop on our return to London. We disembarked, from Eurostar, at St Pancras, bags in hand . . .okay, on rollers, for the short walk to the Premier Inn, Kings Crossing.
Short walk, my old butt . . . it was a long enough walk through the St Pancras station, then we finally arrived out side, and "she WHO MUST be obeyed," waived me along, saying "short walk, from here." No it wasn't, uphill all the way, in snow . . . okay, there was no snow and it wasn't uphill, but it wasn't a short walk either!!. Let me just say something, the Brit's idea of a short walk, and an American's idea of a short walk, are part of two different maps!!
We finally arrived, and I promptly sat down. I thought something was a little unusual, about the looks of the place when we approached, but I was on the verge of exhaustion, and much in need of a proper pint. Maybe a large Jamesons, strictly for medical reasons of course.
We were quickly notified, that the place was undergoing, refurbishment, renovation, and restoration from 0700 hrs, to 1900 hrs, and that there was no restaurant, bar (Oh, my goodness!!), the rest, for me anyway, was just blah, blah, blah. Luckily, her Ladyship made the arrangements.
The lobby area was very nice and comfy, and we were soon off to our room, 5th floor. We only had to walk a short distance (OH God, not again}, where we would receive a dinner, for 50% off the listed price, and if we were there by 1800hrs, 2 for 1 drinks. Okay, I'm in : ) We only had to walk over to another Premier Inn . . . lovely. In St Pancras.
St. Pancras?
Had we not just come from there? I started to ask, my Dearest, but she shot me her scariest, Italian "snake eyes," so off we went.
Dinner was lovely. We had two servers, one was commenting how much she loved hearing our accents. Being a Californian, I wasn't aware of mine, Her grace, well you never know, as I've heard her slip in and out of different British accents, depending on who she was conversing with at the time. Apparently, that is normal for the British.
Everything 2 for 1, and 50% off? That's a no brainier. We ate like starving pigs, and then realized, that we could return in the morning, for a full buffet.
Breakfast buffet was okay, they were having a go at the self-service coffee machine, which was a bit disconcerting, (maddening for me,) as I really wanted some coffee. As, it was already paid for, I had little room for complaints. There were only scrambled eggs, but with the usual, proper sausage, bacon, and most of the other things, that make up a "full English." Also, lots of fruits, juices, cereals, yogurt, etc., and such for the gluten free, health conscience.
Sorry to say, I don't know if the bar is open for a proper pint, at that time of morning, I was still trying to recover from the night before, so that would've been nice.
Our room was, the usual, comfortable, good tv reception, etc. Can't comment on the wi-fi, being retired and on holiday, don't tend to stick my face in either. Too much life and things to see, right before my eyes.
Also, if you didn't want to walk to the other Premier Inn, they had some nice offerings, right in their lobby. I had a great Croissant, coffee one morning, apparently, they had the Cafe Nero, which is right next door catering the lobby area, until construction is completed. Would definitely recommend a stay, Worth it for all the free food, and drinks. read more
