Had a wonderful stay here with our family of 4 for a 1 week vacation. The rooms were nice. Staff were friendly. The included breakfast had several options including a made to order omelette station. There is a restaurant, coffee stand and snack bar available for other food and beverage options as well. There is also a gift shop on the ground floor. The location was great as well. A block from the Marble Arch tube station. Coffee shop on the block. Also short walking distance from Mercato Mayfair, Hell's Kitchen, Selfridges and many other shops. There were always taxis waiting out front as well! I would definitely stay here again! read more

One of the nice things about this hotel is its location. It is a few blocks away from the Marble Arch and right by Oxford Street. There is a bus stop right around the corner and the underground entrance to Bond Street is also nearby . The hotel is very clean and everyone is friendly , professional and ready to help you .I read some of the previous negative reviews and I didn't experience any of the kinds of issues others were having. We had one snag as we were given a room with one bed when we had booked a twin room otherwise our check - in went smoothly and the issue was quickly addressed. The room was very clean. It was a nice size with a desk and several chairs .The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. In the room you will also find an espresso machine , in the cabinet is a tray with tea, Nescafé, hot chocolate, biscuits, sugar and milk. There is complimentary bottled water and soda in the fridge ., which is replenished each day . All very much appreciated. We booked our stay with breakfast included and enjoyed the wonderful buffet . There was an omelette station along with the fixings for a traditional English Breakfast., an assortment of breads , danish , yogurt, cereal , fruit , cheese and even salad . There is something here for everyone , We totally enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel . read more

Squarely a midrange hotel. Affordable prices in a great area. Very convenient for work. Place is no frills but had a good breakfast buffet which was included. I stayed for one week and hit up the breakfast every day. Quick and convenient way to start the day. Place is a bit tired as far as decor goes and a metal plate fell off in the bathroom the moment I arrived. That should be fixed. Bathroom otherwise nice but tub is narrow and water leaks out when you shower. Tub is deep and hard to safely get out of, would suck if you are old or have compromised mobility. Maids didn't keep my coffee pods stocked up and knocked on my door when I had the privacy sign on. Beware the rooms you can see into other guests windows and vice versa. King bed is actually two beds pushed together. Kind of lame. I'd award 2.5 stars if I could. Didn't have a chance to check out the gym. Hotel was full of guests. read more

I'd like to start by saying we did enjoy our recent stay at the Thistle Marble Arch. The location of the property was convenient to The Tube with shopping and dining nearby. Our room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping stocked our refrigerator with water and soda daily. I felt breakfast was on the pricey side. However, everything seemed to be on the pricey side during our stay in London. This is a full "American" style breakfast, not the continental variety. Offerings included an omelette bar, fried and scrambled eggs, hash browns, ham, sausage, baked goods, salad fixings, fruit and of course juice, milk, coffee and tea. There was a wide selection, but the quality and taste was lacking, The posted cost was 22 pounds per person for walk ins. I know I would not have paid that price except it was included in our package. I may have paid the same elsewhere, but would have enjoyed better quality food. However, the location was convenient and got us started each morning. I feel customer service is very IMPORTANT which is the reason for this follow up. I initially wrote to the general manager of the hotel giving Paul, the concierge manager, a 5 star review for the excellent customer service he provided during our stay. There was an incident that happened during our stay at the hotel. Paul was very helpful and attentive, even assisting us in filing the police report. He offered to write a letter to our insurance as proof to support our claim. I stupidly declined thinking our insurance would accept the police report. However, that was not the case since the police report was filed within 48 hours instead of the required 24. The insurance company advised that if I could obtain confirmation from the hotel that they were made aware that the incident was reported immediately, this would support my case. I emailed Paul on 2 separate occasions requesting his assistance. He has not bothered to respond to either request. My husband says since Paul has already received my letter commending him for his excellent service and the fact that we are no longer paying guests he probably does not feel the necessity to follow through. Such a disappointing experience to end our vacation. read more

This boutique hotel is located near to shopping on Oxford Street and a Tube stop that's easy to remember since its also called Marble Arch. The floors with the rooms sprawl in several directions which made it a bit of a maze to find the lift. We could've used a GPS tracker, but thankfully by the end of our stay we had it figured out. Rooms here are tidy if small, and comfortably fit the 3 of us with our own single beds. I'm 5'2" so getting into the bathtub was near like a pole vault step up. I hit my heel several times on the tub rim getting in and out. We also had a little trouble figuring out how to use the shower (don't run the bottom faucet if you want to turn on the shower nob at the top) but a nice staff person politely showed us what to do. Though there was no view to speak of, we were looking across at another building, the hotel offered free wi-fi in the rooms and there was a telly so we could watch the BBC. Other amenities included a cafe on the main floor where we had afternoon tea for 20 pounds. I'd skip it as the scones were dry and hard, even with cream and jam. A better bet is the breakfast buffet in the main restaurant which featured an amazing spread of hot foods. Made-to-order omelettes, sausages, potatoes, tomatoes, as well as cereals, pastries, breads, cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit and a nice selection of juices -- even pomegranate. On the last night of our stay, we were awoken after midnight by the sound of the smoke alarm. While my friend was trying to hit the alarm with her slipper, I stepped into the hall and found other sleepy-eyed, confused guests. I turned back in to the room and told my friend, "Um, it's not just our room alarm. Maybe we should call the front desk?" While she called unsuccessfully,I awoke my other friend. Eventually, we reached someone in housekeeping who told us, "We don't know what's going on, so maybe you should come down to the lobby." After getting dressed and walking down 8 flights of stairs, we were told to go back to our rooms. Oh, and since the lifts would take a while to get back to normal, climb back up the stairs would you? I guess it wouldn't be a vacation away from home without some excitement, right-o? read more

Excellent location! Just off Oxford Street near to Marble Arch. Shops and nightlife nearby for fun days and nights. Very clean spacious rooms. Ours had a nice sized TV with extra terrestrial channels and a stocked fridge. However there's not much of a view from the window. The staff are friendly and helpful too. This review called for a celebration meal - a friend of mine earned a well overdue promotion so it was time to splash out. Fortunately I had a Groupon to a steak dinner at this place so off we went. Pushing the boat out and splashing the cash, that's just how I roll ;) Great deal though - sirloin steak for 2, champagne cocktail and bottle of wine for £40. Extras we paid for were side dishes and pudding to complete the meal. The Marmor Grill is set in the Thistle hotel above Marble Arch tube station, so naturally you feel a bit swanky gracing Oxford st (almost) for dinner. the hotel is typically Art Deco, you can tell immediately by the clock above the door, the paintings that are clearly post-Picasso, the marbled two-toned floor and the multicoloured lighting in the ceiling. It's a style they've done well. The restaurant itself is at the back of the hotel, so you get to imagine being rich enough to stay here and walk through the foyer feeling important. A nicely decorated place, the waiter was unfortunately new and frankly rubbish. Bar that, I was happy. A decent Kir Royal to kick off the meal,y steak was nicely cooked to taste (medium rare is the only way to have steak) an was beautifully tender with the bearnaise accompaniment. This need a splash more lemon for me to give a citrus zing but otherwise creamy and filling. Hand cut chips and buttered spinach were a good addition! Wash this down with a decent white wine (the purists among you will gasp at having white wine with steak, but my friend doesn't drink red and it was her celebratory night!) and you have a lovely evening indeed. Pear tart for pudding, not cooked enough. Dessert and slow service (we had walk up to the maître d' to settle the bill) loses this place full marks. Nice, clean hotel in a great part of London. -Near Marble Arch tube stop -Very nice staff -morning breakie (avoid black pudding) -internet access (but you have to pay) -CLEAN!!!!! The only downside is the darn shower. It is a European style -- only covers half of the bathtub. So it is messy! But I think that all showers are like that in Europe. Also, street traffic can be heard. That didn't bother me. But it might bother you. But heck, you are in London, get some ear plugs. Love, me read more

This was the last of 3 hotels and 4 countries at the end of a very long week and we hit the jackpot with this room. There were 4 of us and this room had more than enough space for us to lounge, repack and just decompress from the previous few days. It was near both Tube stops as well as a main start/stop for the doubledecker bus tours. Plenty of souvenier shops near by Markets & restaurants within a short walk About a 10-15 minute walk to Buckingham Palace (maybe 7 pounds for a cab) The food from room service was amazing, the rooms were clean and well kept. The staff was extremely helpful & polite and I would definitely stay here again. read more

Mmm... Okay, I've thought about wether or not to leave a review until after my stay but this is such a surreal experience I decided to go ahead. The hotel is... Fine... It's... Adequate... Though, there are some definite peculiarities. This is hardly my first time in London and I've stayed in several hotels and this is definitely the worst. I mean I can put up with this but it's not exactly a positive. First of all, the rooms appear to be recently renovated, but I wish they'd soundproofed the windows a bit. Lord knows that in true London fashion, the people driving Portman Street are under the impression that if they honk enough, traffic will part to let them through as if they were Moses leading the exodus. Actually now that I think about it, the rooms aren't soundproofed at all. I'm currently listening to an infant screaming bloody murder, a phone ringing in a nearby room, a gaggle of women who sound to be drunk off their feet cackling, and a conversation taking place conveniently outside my door. Second, there's a bit of a peculiarity with the plumbing where, every day at around 6pm, I hear an atrocious gurgling sound, which turns out to be someone else's bath water bubbling up the drain into my shower, complete with their own hair. Third, and this is such a basic thing-- "Do not disturb" means "don't ring the bell and knock on my door for housekeeping". I am jet-lagged out of my mind, and yet every day like clockwork, I'm jarred awake at the same time by the harsh trill of the doorbell, a knock, and "Housekeeping? Housekeeping?" and thirty minutes later, just as I've fallen asleep again, a second chorus of bells, knocking, and "Housekeeping?". If I wanted service to my room, I'd flip the switch from "Do not disturb" to "Service requested" or I'd turn the switch off from "Do not disturb" The food from the restaurant is adequate, though if I'm paying £24 for a meal I expect them to remember everything. I can forgive forgetting a sauce, but if I order fish and chips, I expect there to be... Chips... The only thing keeping me from giving this one star is the staff at reception, and the location. This isn't a cute and cuddly hotel- it's an industrial one, but it's clean, and the staff are reasonably well trained, and the breakfast buffet was good. We had wanted adjoining rooms, or rooms relatively close to our children, so we were pretty annoyed when we got to the hotel and found our kids were on another floor, but we worked it out. I had afternoon tea with my family and guests from South Africa. The service was amazing and our waitress went out of her way to help us. The food was very nice and there was a wide selection of teas and coffees available with no restriction on how many different teas you wished to sample. Affordable (for London), nice room, pro staff, and, a 10 minute walk (5 minutes for fast walking Londoners) to class. The hotel charges for wifi, but my netbook picked up signals from about a dozen free sources, but some of those time out after 15 minutes. read more

I stayed here for a few nights and found it to be very pleasant and clean.The reception area and surrounding rooms are quite fancy,with an art deco style theme throughout the hotel.Rooms are very spacious and clean but I would say that they could be doing with a little update to modernise them as you can tell the furniture has been around for a while,this is reallt just a minor thing though.Staff are very helpful and will do what they can for you,as will the maids who come to clean your room.Room service is quite expensivearound £5 just for a bottle of coke and £15 for burger and chips but it is very tasty.The hotel is also pretty centrally located so ideal on weekend trips to london,being near shops etc. read more

As of October 2015, there is extensive construction of the entrances and main lobby. Noise, plastic on the floors, exiting through a drafty, back stairwell. Perhaps it'll be completed by the holidays. Honestly, the staff was always hard-working and willing to help, but my overall impression was that they were a little overwhelmed-- at breakfast, the dining room is buzzing with waitstaff everywhere you look, but try getting a place setting or a pot of coffee. On a three night stay, the internet was down for a 12-18 hour period. A few times I got *no answer* when calling down to reception to ask. When I finally got through there was a harried non-native speaker telling me they just got on shift and "don't know what's going on yet," but I'd get a call back. I never did. I liked the room, although my wife said the bright, spotlight, top-down lighting made getting ready to go out a pain. I gather it makes applying the right makeup more difficult. The location is central to shopping and Hyde Park, the NYC equivalent of being near 5th Ave, 57th St. and Central Park. The internet, when working, was fast. The rooms are clean and modern. The outlets had USB ports, plus Euro and US power outlets, so one could come here and never need an adapter. That was nice. We were offered a choice of a room on busy Oxford St. or the other side, a quieter street-- no difference in price. And again, the staff are doing a great job, but under difficult circumstances. The clientele seems to be mostly American and Middle Eastern. The quality of the free breakfast was adequate, though they do offer a lot of different things. Look, I'm willing to imagine it's probably a fine hotel most times. But there are so many hotels to choose from, next time I go to London, I'll try my luck elsewhere. read more

Stayed at the Thistle Hotel when i first arrived in London it was standard accomodation and service the location is worth paying for close to all the central attraction. It offers good room service and the staff are quite knowledgable and helpful for tourist information. You can arrange most tours and book all of your shows through reception as well. read more

The worst part of my 10days in London. The short version: Were given a room 2hrs after 2PM check-in. Locked out of our rooms on day 3 of a four day stay. The long version. We traveled with another couple as we share the same anniversary. They made the reservation over a month prior to our trip to London. Two rooms, for three days were booked, and two rooms for a fourth day was booked separately, but within a half hour of the first reservation. We arrived at the hotel about 15min before 2PM check-in. The member of the other couple who had made the reservations, spent 25min at the front desk trying to make sure that the two reservations (one 3-day and 1-1day) were combined so that we would not have to change rooms at the end of the third day. 25min - really? They had a room ready for the other couple (now 20min after check-in) but not ours. So we went to their room to wait until our room was ready. We waited 45min. My husband went down to the front desk to get the key and we proceeded to our room. We unlocked the door and were welcomed to a room that had not been cleaned and was in fact still occupied. At this point, I'm furious. Instead of going to the front desk, I went to the service desk. The woman working there got the manager. He apologized and went up to the desk to get us a room. We took the key to our new room and it was the room that our travel companions were already in. FURIOUS again, I went back to the service desk to get our THIRD key and THIRD attempt to get a room in this hotel! The service desk offers us dinner, breakfast, etc. ARE YOU KDDING???? Comp the room!! The service desk attendant escorts us to the third room to make sure that it is 1) Clean, 2) Not occupied by someone else. Apparently, the 25min at the front desk was a waste of time because on the third day, we were all locked out of our rooms. Another comedy of errors - my husband had called prior to our trip to have champagne and a cake sent to our travel companion's room to surprise them on their anniversary. A bottle of red wine and four cupcakes was sent to our room instead. The other couple received a complimentary glass of champagne (1 glass, not two) to apologize for the three attempts at getting a room. The card read, Hey Bloke - have a glass of champagne on us to celebrate your anniversary. Great location. WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN read more

The location is def a plus for this hotel. Walking distant to two tubes station (Marble Arch and Bond). Walking distant to shopping area, China Town, etc! The hotel could use some TLC. The whole time I was there with my family, the escalator did not work and we were there for 5 days! Room look a bit tired and old. Some wall paper peeling in our room but it was a spacious room with 3 single beds. They claimed they do not have queen size bed. One of our local friend knew someone in that hotel and mentioned we were not to impress with our room. They gracious enough to ask the next day if we would like to change room and gave us complimentary bottle of wine! We decided to stay put in out room, to lazy to move and room seems ok. It def looked a lot better at night when lighting are dim! There are several pub within walking distant too, perfect stop after a tiring day. I definitely like Marble Arch area but might look into other hotel in the area before coming back to this one. read more

Stayed here in 2010. Very small and industrial compared to America, but nothing to complain about. It is London. The tub height was hard getting used to since i'm only 5'1. I nearly tripped and fell twice, and there was mold in the fridge. But, I still loved it because the location is great; near the tube and park. read more

I really liked the hotel over all! The rooms are comfortable, the rooms service was good (if not a little expensive), and the concierge was great. I really liked the location! In addition to having a rice restaurant in the hotel they are also just around the corner from a nice street filled with shops and restaurants. The only downside was that the escalator in the entrance was broken almost the entire week, kind of inconvenient for moving luggage around. read more
