    small guest room
    Rosella S.

My room was very small but conveniently located to central sights like Buckingham Palace and SOHO was within walking distance. The hotel is situated across the street from Fortnum & Mason. The bed was very comfortable for myself - with a leopard-patterned throw and velvet headboards - but it might be cramped for two people. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the volume on the tv/alarm so every time it went off in the morning it would scare the bejeebus out of me. Oh and there was no door for the bathroom. Odd, that. The front desk people could be more pleasant but the bell people were very accommodating and offered their services with a smile. There were a couple of computers in the lobby, which I used because the dial-up in the room was quite slow. Their breakfast buffet was mediocre (toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, and beans) but i think it was free with the reservation package I obtained. If the price is competitive with others in the area, I might stay here again however I would be interested in staying in another part of London the next time I visit.

I stayed 6 nights I believe. The location for me was great The posh men's clothing district. I had a Lauduree across the street, a great underground restaurant down the block. The underground was on the corner. I took taxis everywhere but only got on the tube once Not my thing The breakfast is about $20 it was nice, just like Paris. It was more than decent than any food I could find in London The concierge got me into Gordon Ramsay, and the front desk protected me from odd men who kept following me. The staff were calling me "Pamela" a nice black lady finally told me why, they were calling me the pamela Anderson. A waiter from Gordon Ramsay was coming to the hotel to leave me notes! They were nice enough to say I wasn't there, and warn me if he was coming back. Then I had some other stranglers waiting for my presence in the lobby bar.! I swear London can't handle me! I was always overdressed and approached by men. I'm married, thank god for this staff and their intuition They knew I was travelling alone. I was there long enough. The bar was nice, so was the window washer! Saying hi to me as I watched tv and did my make up. The best thing about that room is there's a Bose where you can blast Morrissey and no one complains. Small room compared to USA. Just like Paris. But this room has excellent showers, deep tubs that I love, walking distance to Piccadilly Circus and Buckingham Palace and all, there's a Fortnum & Mason nearby to shop and eat. There's lots of pubs nearby. I never heard anything bad about the Cavendish I'm about to go plan my trip to London/Dublin I may just come back here. Hopefully no weirdos this time. I should upload the psycho note the waiter from Gordon Ramsay left me. Lol

Our stay at The Cavendish hotel in Jermyn Street was one that was very memorable and definitely very comfortable. Situated near Green Park subway station made this hotel very accessible to the rest of London by the subway. This was very useful for me as I had many appointments all across London to fulfill within my 4 days there. The rooms in The Cavendish were far beyond excellent. With an impressive view of the London skyline, the room had everything which one would need or could ask for. The beds were extremely comfortable, with the beddings being changed everyday, making the guests feel extremely comfortable when sleeping. Also, the toilets were of a respectable size, allowing the guests to be able to have space when showering and not feel cramped up in the shower. As I am not a London resident, getting around that bustling city was a challenge for me as I was not familiar with certain areas. I found out that the concierge service was very helpful to me with my many requests and could be reached at any time of the day. The individuals operating the concierge service always had a smile on their face even if the day was gloomy making our experience ever more wonderful. When they were having a pretty stressed up day, they seemed to always try to put that aside and serve us like any ordinary individual, with respect and kindness, which was far beyond what I was expecting. The ladies at the check-in counter were also extremely courteous when dealing with us. Although we had several problems with our check-in, the ladies handled it well despite us being seemingly frustrated with that problem. Additionally, the breakfast room at the Cavendish served exquisite meals covering food from all over the world from the American waffles to the scrambled eggs, in an attempt to make all the guests feel welcomed and at home. The service staff there were also very nice towards us customers, trying to service everyone, even those sitting outside patiently waiting for their seats by offering them a cup of tea and coffee from the nearby machine. Despite the hive of activity in the restaurant with orders flying from left right and center, the waiters/waitresses and the chefs worked at peak performance, to churn out the orders to a more than respectable standard, with the waiters/waitresses running around to follow them through. Additionally, the buffet spread was exquisite, with the service staff constantly changing the food there to make it as fresh as possible. All in all, my stay at The Cavendish on Jermyn Street was an excellent one: far exceeding that of my expectations. At this hotel, you really get the service that you payed for, without you feeling cheated of your money. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody seeking for convenience and an excellent yet comfortable stay, both for business travels and for a holiday.

    afternoon tea trays (per person)
    JR W.

We only went for afternoon tea in the lounge. The lounge was very comfortable, and I was tempted to take a nap... The pricing was modest as well. The teas were typical, but the accompanying scones, finger sandwiches, chocolates, and dessert tarts came out on an exciting display (see photos). As the displays were pretty big, we thought maybe they were meant to be shared, but our server confirmed that each person gets their own. When we couldn't finish (and we're used to American portions mind you), we asked the server to take it to go. The poor chap obliged and took our trays away. He returned with a cardboard box labeled "brown sugar". Inside, we found our leftover goodies wrapped in aluminum foil. haha! So apparently, take away is not the norm for afternoon tea... :) I'm also thankful that they had complimentary wifi, even for afternoon teakers.

My first experience was Serena and she couldn't have been ruder or less accommodating. I upgraded 30£ and got a room with a view of a brick wall. If you don't go higher than floor 10 you get a crappy view and noisy street. The bar is set in a hallway with no beer on tap. Decent scotch selection. Last a boutique hotel should be hip or at least new looking. This looks like a smoking lounge or library. I wanted a fun place for the weekend with my wife. ..I got my grandfather's study for 290£

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 233/365 Absolutely LOVED this hotel! My dad and I stayed here for five nights recently on our trip to London. LOCATION: Excellent! Right in the heart of St. James, it's a perfect location right off of Piccadilly Circus. I liked that it wasn't located on a major busy road like Piccadilly, because it was MUCH quieter and literally right around the corner from a busy street. Also, it's literally right next to Fortnum & Mason, London's oldest "grocery" store, which was a pleasant surprise to discover! The Cavendish was also conveniently located between two Tube stations - Green Park and Piccadilly Circus, although my dad and I frequented Green Park as our go-to station. Several sites were also within a mile walking distance, such as everything in the Westminster area (Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben/Houses of Parliament, London Eye, etc.), shopping in Mayfair, nightlife and shows in Piccadilly Circus, Harrod's in Knightsbridge, etc. Everything else that was over a mile away was a quick 1 or 2 Tube stops away, which was super convenient! CHECK-IN: Super easy. They have several men escorting all of the guests in and out of the building upon arrival and departure. All of them are SUPER helpful and nice! The front desk people were also very nice and well, and gave us no problems. Once we were ready to go up to our room, one of the bellhops/doormen carried our suitcases with us and took us up to our hotel room, and explained all of the amenities in the room. His name was Jack or Jacek? I think. Super nice guy, kudos to him for being super friendly and helpful! OUR ROOM: We were in a corner room on the top floor (14th floor, excluding 15th floor penthouse), which may be the reason why our room was on the larger side. I had read many reviews about how hotel rooms are notoriously tiny in London, but I think because our room was on the corner of the building we got lucky and it was a pretty good size. We had a nice little hallway in our room when you first entered with a mirrored double door closet, and then a queen bed, two nightstands, a small table with a chair, and a desk with a TV overhead. Wifi was free and accessible in the room, which was a MAJOR plus. Unfortunately I don't think we had US plugs, but we already had one we brought and we also bought another one at the Boots down the street for less than 5 pounds. Our bathroom was really nice and modern! The sink was a white bowl, and the shower and toilet were also very nice. Loved the modern and classy silver touches! THE HOTEL ITSELF: I really liked that this hotel was on the small side and had a boutique-type feel. There were probably 20 rooms per floor, so I'm assuming around 200 rooms, but definitely much smaller than other hotels I've stayed at. The lobby and entryway were moderately sized, but definitely not huge and as grandiose as other hotels I had checked out online. It was never busy, crowded, or noisy, which was very nice and pleasant. SERVICE: Whilst checking out, my dad and I had arranged for a shuttle van to pick us up from the Cavendish and take us to London Heathrow airport. Annoyingly enough, the shuttle service sucked and my dad and I had been waiting for an HOUR because the shuttle was running so late! It was so frustrating. The doorman working at the time was awesome and asked my dad for the number, and called the shuttle service several times to ask about where they were and why they weren't on time, etc. It was super awesome that he checked for us and all we did was sit there in the lobby. Then when the shuttle finally arrived, he loaded all of our bags into the van for us! idk what his name was, but I really appreciated his service! PRICE: This hotel wasn't cheap, but totally worth what we spent here. I don't know how much it was for hotel alone, but I know for our round trip flights to and from San Francisco + 5 nights at the Cavendish, it was just around $3,000/person. THE VERDICT: Overall, I HIGHLY recommend The Cavendish and would totally stay here again in the future! Excellent location, beautiful spacious room, wonderful service, clean and boutique-like. Can't get any better than that!

The rooms were very comfortable with plentiful amenities like complimentary bottled water, mini fridge, robes and slippers, etc. The bed was so soft and there were a good variety of channels on the television. All staff we interacted with at the hotel were helpful and kind. There was a fire evacuation on one of the days we were there and an announcement came on the loud speaker informing us to leave and staff members guided us to the exit quickly. The buffet breakfast was nice with omelets by request, a variety of hot and cold items (bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, baked beans, pancakes/waffles, fresh fruit and vegetables, juices, cereal, yogurt, pastries). There were servers to clear your plates and provide drinks. We had drinks one evening at the bar and Marco was such an entertaining and efficient bartender. We are so fortunate to have spent four nights at The Langham, using it as our base for the trip. This hotel is steeped in history as the first "Grand Hotel" in London and all of Europe, pioneering amenities that were truly groundbreaking for their time. It's also where the tradition of Afternoon Tea was popularized beyond aristocratic circles and introduced to a wider audience. The Langham is also known for their signature scent, almost like a spicy rose, that we are still thinking about to this day. It is the first thing that greets you in the lobby but is not overpowering; you know immediately where you are. The service we received was nothing short of warm and attentive. Our Superior Room was ready upon check-in and very comfortable. We stayed in briefly to recharge from the jet lag and time change before heading down for Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court, which is an experience in itself. A special shout-out to our server, who was extremely generous with scone refills when my wife had to step away briefly after the long journey. Complimentary tea is also served downstairs each morning in a quick grab-and-go fashion, which gave us the daily energy we needed before heading out for a full day of planned activities and sightseeing. Marylebone is ideally situated in the heart of central London, with easy access to hot spots like Mayfair and SoHo. The London Underground is just steps from the hotel, putting most of the city within about 20 minutes' reach. Shopping, dining, and museums are all nearby, and the Hotel Concierge was proactive enough to reach out before our trip to help book activities. One highlight was the swimming pool, located beneath the hotel in what was once an underground bank vault. We didn't make it to the gym, but we did peek inside and it was beautifully appointed. We are fans of The Langham brand and can't wait to return to The Langham London and explore their properties in other cities around the world!

One year later we were back for a mother daughter trip with another mother/daughter. I originally booked the St Ermins again, but then thought it may be fun to switch it up and stay in a new area of London. A friend/travel agent recommended The Marylebone Hotel, which met all of our requirements: - easy to get around in London - fairly priced by London standards - good shopping/restaurant area We arrived a little cranky from our flight in Edinburgh after a 2 hour Uber from the airport. They greeted us warmly and even told me they had an upgrade for me, although ran out of upgraded for my friend which didn't make her happy. To be fair our rooms were right next to each other and I didn't see a difference so don't think mine was really "upgraded" The rooms like most in London were small. We had 2 twin beds pushed together. It was basically like sleeping in one big bed, but we had our own set of covers which made my 13 year old happy. Everything was very clean and nice, but small. The attached gym was great. It seemed to be a popular local gym so was quite crowded, but if there was room in classes hotel guests could join. I did a leg class one day, which I enjoyed...although got a great leg workout just walking miles and miles around London everyday. The surrounding area was so cute - filled with boutiques (some unique to London and other popular back in the states). There were lots of little cafes to grab a treat as well. We spent a lot of time in covenant garden to see shows on this trip, which was quite the walk but great way to get exercise. And when we returned from the craziness of covenant garden it was nice to be in a quiet area. Breakfast was included in our daily rate. The buffet was adequate and I enjoyed eggs and coffee from the menu. We also received a $50 room credit, which we used to raid the mini bar the last day for some airplane snacks. I thought St Ermins was the perfect pick for my family's first trip to London since it was right next to the tube and near so many sites, but this hotel worked out perfectly for a mother daughter eating, shopping and shows adventure.

And The Landmark itself is a historic building with great architectural features. Very beautiful. And the doormen were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Don't worry about the price. How often will you get to do High Tea at The Landmark? I strongly recommend it.

The rooms can be a bit small and there is very little room to put your toiletries in the bathroom. The large bowl-shaped sink takes up most of the counter so you are forced to squeeze in your stuff uber and around the bowl. Sadly, the faucet BARELY makes it over the edge of the bowl so when you wash your hands, water goes everywhere and ends up spreading around the counter and gets your toiletries wet! Ugh!! That one detail is definitely not up to the normal Hotel Indigo standard in my opinion. Whoever designed the bathroom should never be hired again! This should be a 3 star review based on that. But.... The saving grace was the front desk and the maintenance guy. We quickly discovered that our safe didn't work. The front desk got the maintenance guy to our room quickly and he reset it. When we were ready to leave, it failed again so they summoned the maintenance guy again. He reset it but it failed again. So he proceeded to replace the safe. Those things are HEAVY!!! The poor guy had to lug it up from downstairs, unbox it, take out the old one, install the new one and then lug the old one back downstairs!! This guy was sweating profusely but handled everything so professionally. So kudos to him and the front desk for making this happen so quickly, thus the 4 stars!!

But it's tired, worn, a little dirty, and certainly needs a refurb. Granite countertops cracked, mold above the shower, shower gel container not refilled in 3 days. Platinum Elite Marriott member, paid for extra night before main booking as coming in from a US red-eye flight at 8 in the morning. Called hotel the night before as we boarded plane, we won't be checking in tonight but hold as we'll be there tomorrow morning. Yes sir. We see that. No problem. Fly through the night, arrive, and its "your room is not ready, check in is at 3pm" What? I've paid for extra night, last night, confirmed two weeks ago and last night. It took 10 minutes for them to figure it out. Again, I'm a Platinum Elite loyal traveller, but no upgrade, no welcome, and no room I'd paid for without a fight! Horrible start. Served its purpose for a couple of days in London, but won't be back. Will spend more little more to get much nicer cleaner room closer to an Underground station. Lots of other Marriott hotels in central London to choose from!
