Brazilian hazelnut latte, coffee, mocha
Andrea M.

Great drinks! The Brazilian hazelnut latte was delicious, with great hazelnut flavour without being sugary. The mocha is made with real melted milk chocolate. They bake bread on site for their sandwiches. Lots of food options, including all day breakfast. This location is comfy though not particularly spacious.

Awesome barista warming up my cup before he makes my drink---love it!!!
Jess W.

Aroma is not my go-to coffee shop because prices for their drinks are a bit more expensive. I came here because I had a meeting and the person I was meeting with suggested this location. I ordered my usual Americano and watched the barista make my drink. I absolutely loved how he warmed my cup!! Not many places do that for you so I really appreciated that extra step. I also loved how each espresso drink comes with a chocolate on the side. It is milk chocolate, although I prefer dark, but I think it is a good contrast as the espresso is so bitter and the milk chocolate is on the sweeter side. My meeting was at 2pm and this location was pretty busy and loud but by 4pm, this place became calm and quiet. I would say, if you are wanting to meet someone at this Aroma, maybe schedule it a little later in the afternoon so you aren't shouting at the person in front of you or stretching your ear to hear. Even though Aroma isn't my go-to coffee shop, I may consider going there every-now-and-then as a treat to spend an extra dollar on my usual Americano.

Finally! Aroma Espresso Bar finally opens up in Markham. Thanks Chris C for the location tip as I was wandering around the mall with my bags and could not find this new coffee place. Fast Efficient Service. The order taker is just so sweet and friendly. My Double Shot Long Macchiato ($2.50) was perfectly made. Love the milk froth. If you want to be really caffeinated, you won't be disappointed with Aroma coffee! Opens at 8 am. Perfect to come and pick up a coffee and a baked treat which is all made in house. I know I will be back as there are not too many good espresso bar up in this part of Markham that makes a decent espresso drink.

Shakshuka bottom and aroma hash top
Eric C.

I really like the concept of Aroma. A cafe with unique Mediterranean options and a vibrant warm interior makes this one of a kind. Add in the fact that it's part of the mall makes it super convenient for all occasions. It's a place I can envision having a light breakfast comfortably at any time of the day. However I found the execution of the breakfast offerings falling just short of my expectations. We ordered the shakshuka and the aroma hash. The flavoring of the shakshuka was great. The tomato with the red peppers provided acidity and a bold sweetness from the peppers; it was great to dip the bread into to soak up all the stew. However, I found the tahini to be greatly conflicting with the shakshuka with the bitterness of the tahini being too much for the sweetness of the stew base. In addition, the stew could have been more warm as it was just somewhat just slightly over room temperature. The salad of the aroma hash was excellent. Sauteed red peppers, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and onions all provided a nice full sweetness, all brought together with a lemon olive oil dressing. The bread here was a bit disappointing as they were a bit flat in texture and could have used a bit more of a crunch. The house blend coffee was rich and bold. Value is very fair considering breakfast offerings of other standalone cafes would set you back a lot more.

Moroccan spiced chicken bowl
Alina M.

I dropped by just before noon on a weekday and the store itself was around 1/3 full, getting ready for a lunch peak. I ordered the Moroccan spiced chicken bowl, which came to a little over $10 after tax, with no drinks or anything, which is definitely quite pricey. The food itself is pretty standard and typical, nothing too special or out of the ordinary, just as you would expect it to be, considering it is a chain store cafe. The atmosphere here seems to be wonderful for studying or just enjoying a drink and relaxing, but the prices are quite a bit higher than your average coffee shop for both the drinks and food. In the summertime, they have some tables/chairs outside!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Shakshuka - diced tomato soup with 2 sunny side up eggs, served with tahini
Jessica E.

The only negative thing about this Aroma is it takes a while to fulfill your order. Your order is taken quickly but because they prepare your meal fresh (which is seriously GREAT AND ALL!), how long you will wait will depend on how many hands are in the kitchen. Very often I peep just 1, max 2 pairs of eyes through the window. Awesome food and friendliness. Staff are very informative. Just be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes, especially with a line. Oh and order the pistachio croissant! It is my favorite ever form of pistachio. You'll thank me later.

Matcha green tea latte with a l'il Aroma milk chocolate treat (free) on the side
Abigael P.

This location is located next to the mall entrance near walmart - across from the escalators leading shoppers to Winners/Home Sense. Aroma makes good coffee - on the pricier end. I ordered a small matcha green tea latte and the price came out to $4.15. It was pretty delicious - I'd definitely come back to have it and to try more drinks and food. One thing about the latte - at the beginning of drinking it, it had a strong matcha flavour with lots of foam (bc it's a latte) - stirring the drink will even out texture and flavour so that youre not hit with full matcha tones here and there. Besides drinks, Aroma offers a variety of sweets, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and soups, giving shoppers a good selection of quality cafe-style goods other than what the caf-eatery offers at Markville.

$11 quinoa salad that was just 2 slivers of onion, a giant ass handful of cucumber and tomatoe topped with some quinoa and eggplant
Tuyet Anh Đ.

Really disappointed that I paid $11 for a shit ton of diced tomatoes and cucumbers with about half a cup of quinoa topped with probably the best eggplants I've ever had in my entire life but paired with the most disgusting frozen tofu and bland sauce. I reaply thought that it was wierd that there was only one girl on and one person in the kitchen but I mean I guess if theyre not making budget they have to cut the hours on staff right? BUT I WAS WRONG! About 5 minutes later 3 other staff appeared out of no where in the front all chilling. Cool. The guy who ordered after me got his cold soup faster than I did and had to bring it back to the staff and complain to reheat it up lol. About 5 minutes after that I got my nicely overpriced salad and I hated every bite that wasn't eggplant. I was honestly thinking if I should give them two stars for the eggplant but honestly I haven't had enough from this place nor have I been charged enough for the correct quality so nah. Save yourself the trouble if you want to pay for quality food because this is not the place. I mean of course if you have the money, follow the basic memes trend, know the staff so theyll actually prepare you good food, be my guest this place is perfect for you have a great day.

Front to back: Hazelnut, Chocolate, Matcha
Ann H.

We were gonna leave after shopping at the mall, when we saw that outside was pouring. So we decided to get a drink at Aroma and wait for the rain to die down. I immediately picked the Iced Hazelnut Latte because I really like the flavour of hazelnut. And this latte from Aroma did not disappoint! The drink was so good and definitely restored my energy from walking for 2 hours! Tried my friends's Iced chocolate and Matcha latte as well. The Iced chocolate was so comforting because it was just super chocolate-y!! The Matcha Latte on the other hand was not bad, but we all feel that the matcha flavour could be a bit stronger. Maybe we are just used to the strong bitter flavour of matcha in Japanese dessert and drinks We were going to get some baked goods as well but we saw a bug flying around inside that enclosed glass case..so no we didn't end up getting any food from there. Overall a pretty nice place to hang out with friends, the seats are comfortable and there are lots of natural lights from the large windows. Would def go back to Aroma for the Hazelnut latte!

Hot chocolate with marshmallows
Chris C.

Another Aroma Espresso Bar opens up and this time its in Markham. Located inside Markville Mall on the lower level right next to Walmart. Good coffee for a price. Tried a medium hot chocolate with marshmallows and also a mocha. I think the medium size was $4.55 a cup. The hot chocolate was like drinking melted chocolate. If you dig at the bottom of the cup with a spoon you will find a huge glob of chocolate on the bottom. Mmmmmm, freshly melted chocolate. Service was excellent of course. There was like 5 people working and only about 6 customers. Maybe the news had not spread yet that there was an Aroma Espresso Bar opened in Markham. In all the other locations I went to the place was usually packed. Maybe all the Asians in Markham are not big coffee drinkers and would rather get bubble tea. I'm Asian so I'm allowed to say that. Me...I think I would rather get at a coffee at Aroma Espresso Bar rather than a BBT.

Kery P.

Only found out about this place because my husband did a Yelp search for coffee in this area. I would never do that because I had long given up the search for good coffee in Markham ;p Anyway, very happy to have Aroma in the neighbourhood. They have a bigger and better menu than the American or Canadian coffee franchises. This particular location has bright, natural light coming in which makes it the best environment to chill and have a coffee compared to Starbucks and Second Cup in the mall. It also has a patio! We had an affogato, alfajores and a brownie. All good; cookie is fresh and soft, brownie is moist (cakey not fudgy) and their espresso is strong! Almost felt giddy after the affogato, lol! A terrific addition to the mall!

Brazilian hazelnut latte - $4.05 (right) Latte $3.55 (left)
Jessica H.

Order: - Small Brazilian hazelnut latte ($4.05) - Small Latte ($3.55) You WILL regret not ordering something from their freshly baked pastries.. I repeat, you will regret it! I couldn't help but to stare at the table behind us. They ordered croissants & we didn't. The moment they sat down with their tray of butter croissant and who knows what else the smell travelled straight into my nose. Oh man. It smelled so good. Which means this place would be an awesome breakfast/study hangout. It can't get any better than being surrounded by fresh pastry & coffee aroma. The Brazilian Hazelnut Latte is apparently a new addition to their menu. The first couple of sips it was really aromatic and delicious, but after you hit the half cup mark it starts getting a little too sweet. If you love sweets, then it's for you. Unfortunately it was too sweet for me. The Latte on the other hand was nice and strong. Your typical latte really. I kinda like Kensington Market's Moonbean Coffee's latte more. I wasn't here for the latte art, but I was kinda hoping they'd do something better than a simple heart. Oh wells! Price: Good! - I mean compared to Tim Hortons & Mcdonalds it's obviously on the pricier end but compared to Starbucks? Aroma is so much better than Starbucks. Location: To be honest they kind of have it in a bad location. Should've went far away from Cinnabon. I was almost tempted to go over to Cinnabon instead! It's literally the first thing I smelled when I walked into the mall entrance by Aroma. Service: Fast and the staff (the one that served me) was suuuuper helpful & suuuper sweet (by sweet I mean friendly). Just for that I am so coming back. It's about time there's finally a decent coffee place in Markham. P.s: comes with complimentary chocolate !

Bludot Orange Pineapple Green Tea and Turkey BLT Croissant.
Arnel B.

I walked into Aroma for the first time and it looked really nice and the cashier was very nice and helpful throughout my transaction. I ordered a Turkey BLT Croissant ($7) and a Bludot Orange Pineapple Green Tea ($4). The Turkey BLT Croissant tasted pretty good but isn't worth $7 in my opinion. Also, the Bludot Orange Pineapple Green Tea was not satisfying all, it tasted like a very watered down kool-aid and was definitely not worth it's price. Overall, if you have the money, Aroma is pretty good but I'll be sticking to Tim Hortons.

We initially asked for a table at the back, but were informed there was a reservation coming in, so we were offered a table for two by the door instead. Thankfully, it wasn't too chilly, and since foot traffic was minimal, the door stayed closed for most of our visit. When we arrived, there was only one other table of two enjoying coffee. The space itself is quite small, which isn't what you'd typically expect from an Italian spot. They do have patio seating, but it's not really suitable for this time of year. That said, the service was excellent. We were promptly offered drinks, given menus, and had our order taken within a reasonable timeframe. The server also introduced us to the daily specials, kept our waters topped up, and cleared tables as needed. Our waitress was very friendly, and what appeared to be the manager also stopped by to thank us for coming. For food, we shared the sausage pizza. It's meant to be personal-sized, but we were pretty hungry. The flavors were solid, and the pizza wasn't too heavy. The crust was nicely crispy yet chewy, and the toppings were well balanced, not too much, not too little. We also noticed their pastry display; the apple muffin in particular looked tempting, though we didn't try it this time. Definitely something to come back for. All in all, a pleasant experience and a nice spot to stop by if you're in the area.

That level of care really comes through in the cup; you can taste the depth and intentionality in every sip. I ordered the vanilla bean iced latte, and it was easily one of the best espresso bases I've had in a while. The shot itself was rich and layered: deep, chocolatey, and nutty striking a really nice balance between bitterness and acidity. It finished with a smooth, almost creamy note that made the whole drink incredibly enjoyable. The only downside is the size-to-price ratio. At around CAD $8.50 for what felt like a 10 oz drink, it's definitely on the pricier side for something that goes down this easily. Still, I'd absolutely come back when I'm in the mood for a more premium coffee experience. (Funny note - the barista and I had a small rant together about how people order "iced cappuccino" and macchiato expecting Starbucks milk sugary drink instead of the "proper" shot with dollop of foam. I understand their pain hahah)

I bought a couple of buns as a customer since then and I'm hooked! Bun Appetit is located at Commerce Gate. It's located closer to Highway 7. It's around the corner from Kinton Ramen, which I have been to a handful of times during the pandemic to pick up good eats. I found a parking spot steps away from Bun Appetit on a Wednesday evening at around 6:15 pm and backed in to it. It's easier to find parking when it's a weekday, in the afternoon. Bun Appetit's breads are naturally fermented for 168 hours. I liked that all buns and breads are gut-friendly and low on the glycemic index. I'm always interested in lower sugar options. I have sampled these items: - Baguette - Whole wheat walnut vegan bun - Lychee bun - Raisin earl grey bun - Oreo chocolate delight bun - Matcha pistachio pretzel - Whole wheat German pretzel - Yeast loaf with Nutella They were all delicious. They were soft and airy. My favourites were the whole wheat walnut vegan bun and the Oreo chocolate delight bun (also known as the messy hands bun). The former had whole walnuts that were so crunchy and fresh. The bread was chewy and soft. The messy hands bun used dark chocolate. It was also fluffy and soft. It lived up to its name. I had messy fingers just eating a morsel! It has 9 g of sugar, which is practically nothing being fermented. I liked how unique the flavours were. I loved the smell of the lychee bun. I wish it had lychee pieces in it. Instead, it was wine-infused and that flavour overpowered everything. I loved the yeast loaf with Nutella as a dessert option. I nearly picked up a loaf after this event was over! As a parting snack, I got the truffle mushroom one. It was the last one. I love mushrooms. It was super delicious with truffle oil, enoki mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and melted cheeses on top. The bun was soft and perfect. It was such a gourmet bun. I have since returned to get more buns: - Strawberry beetroot - Chocolate arancia The strawberry beetroot bun was fluffy. I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise and joy, it had whole strawberries in it. Wow and yay! I love fruit, but I wasn't expecting so much of it in this bun. I loved it. It was naturally sweet from the strawberries. The beetroot wasn't noticeable in flavour. I feel it added colour to the triangular bun more than anything. The chocolate arancia was equally as unique slicing it in half. This bun had candied orange bits in it. It tasted so good with the chocolate morsels on top and the subtle chocolate flavour in the bun itself. It was delicious. I need to return for more. I have found the buns of my dreams, which sounds odd and funny. It's all true! I paid with a credit card. You can register your phone number to collect points towards goodies. I'll be back. (185)
