Arnold's employees are incredibly nice, first and foremost. Several times I've asked for minimal butchery, (chicken spatchcock, pork slicing, brisket flat/point separation), and every time I'm not quite sure what I've received back in the bag (my own fault for not EVER checking before I leave the store). Please just learn from this... Arnold's will work with you, but please know what you need/want beforehand and express this clearly so they can accurately help you - and THEN check their work before you check out. Been going to Arnold's for years. Went this past Saturday and wanted to order a ribeye for thanksgiving. The gentleman working in the meat department ( who was very nice) told us to call on Monday and speak to the owner to place our order. I asked if we could just order right then with him and he said we should call. So this morning I called. The woman who answered said we can't order over the phone unless we were a business. I told her what the meat guy told us. She huffed and puffed and told me to hold. When she came back she said what are you ordering? I told her and she said "we carry that all the time". I said I'm sure you do but we wanted to pick up Wednesday to have for thanksgiving. Once again, she huffed and puffed. Apparently she didn't have the patience for me. I told her we would go somewhere else......she said OK. No way to accommodate us....just ok. That is the last time I will shop there. Arnold's Meats - Horse - Grocery Near Me - Chicopee, Massachusetts

We've been to the Arnold's Meats in East Longmeadow four times, but today we visited the older Arnold's (built in 1980) on Gratton Street in Chicopee. We had the same great experience that we enjoyed at the other store. We bought two big bags of stuff (4 packages of chicken, 2.5 lbs of calamari, Canadian bacon, lobster cakes, some sauces and a pound of ground turkey) for less than $40. This store seemed a bit smaller than East Longmeadow, but it had the same great variety of pretty much anything you could possibly want to put on your dinner table- meats, cheeses, poultry, fish, shellfish, potatoes, vegetables and pies-lots of great looking pies. The service was really friendly- a few folks asked us if we were looking for anything special, and could they help us find it? The East Longmeadow store is a lot closer to where we live, so we'd probably return to that one for our next Arnold's fix. But it's safe to say that we love both locations. read more

A butcher shop that refused to cut meat. I asked for skirt steak and was told I could only buy it by the slab for 95$. It was more than I wanted but I said ok I'll take it, I figured I'd invite family to grill it until it's gone. The gentleman attempts to hand me this 1/4 cow sized hunk of meat. I ask if he can cut it for me and and he said no. He was polite but I left empty handed more confused than angry. I have no reason to return. Bizarre! read more

Have lived locally all my life and heard good things but have not shopped at Arnold's E Longmeadow before. Wanted some baby back ribs and it looks like their specialty is beef/chicken and not pork. Decided to shop here anyway and found frozen ribs (no surprise - pre-packaged ribs were as advertised in flyer but not discount price compared with supermarket). Didn't shop for their fresh beef meat cuts (maybe I should have). One thing I found extremely concerning is the condition of the frozen foods. Asked an associate for frozen chicken wings - was escorted to a 2-1/2 bag of wings that had so much frost that I would have thrown these away if I found them in my own freezer - all their frozen products need serious review for freshness and saleability. read more

Well it would be nice if they honored their advertised hours. They are supposed to be open until 6pm on Thursdays and although I was cutting it close at 5:50, I was running in for one thing and was trying to avoid the hassle of the grocery store. However the door was locked...? I double checked the sign on the door and could still see employees inside and again, although it was close to closing, it wasn't 6pm yet. I called their telephone number as I was leaving the parking lot to verify they were supposed to be open until 6 and the woman that answered said well yes but we're closing up now and asked if I was outside. I explained that I had been, but I left since their door was locked. Her reply to me was that I should've gone to the out/exit doors and could have gotten in that way - ooooh, silly me, I guess I was just supposed to know that. Bottom line, if your hours of operation state you're open til 6, then your doors should be open until 6. read more

"I'm talkin' Arnold's Meeeeeats!" - Arnold's Meats jingle, heard on the radio daily I have to admit, my primary reason for going to Arnold's Meats on Grattan Street is because Rock102 plays this jingle every. single. morning. and it became ingrained in my head. I needed a good butcher's shop, which Springfield is desperately lacking in, and so, Arnold's Meats it was. The first trip to Arnold's Meats shortly after I moved to Springfield, was as I recall, not as amazing as I'd hoped. Yes, they had meat and lots of it, but if I remember correctly, I didn't really score any "big deals" and I felt like a lot of their stuff was frozen. Fast forward to my most recent two trips. Arnold's Meats puts out a Weekly Ad (http://www.arnoldsmeats.com/weeklyad.php) where they list their best deals. If you follow their ad, you'll end up saving a lot of money, and get a lot for your dollar. Some deals are best for the average home cook with limited freezer space, and others really cater to those with deep freezers, or commercial cold storage. For example, this week I took advantage of their fresh (not frozen) whole chicken, 99c/lb. They also had 40 pound boxes of chicken drumsticks for an unfathomable $12.50. Of course, I have no room for that much poultry. But what a deal! Arnold's has a great fresh (again, not frozen) supply of beef, chicken, and pork, with a variety of cuts and grinds. They do have some veal, lamb, and frozen exotic meats like alligator, kangaroo, and more. Fish and seafood is extremely limited, mostly the basic deep-frying types, like breaded fish fillets, clam strips. They carry some frozen shrimp and lobster, but I haven't noticed any mentionable savings. Other items include: bacon, frozen pies, canned tomatoes and other veggies, hamburger/hot dog buns, sliced and block cheese, deli meats, condiments, spices, frozen veggies/side dishes and frozen meals. This location always has plenty of butchers and staff on hand to answer questions, direct you to what you're looking for, and to cut and wrap your meat. Helpful hint: Arnold's does not charge extra for meats cut to order, or for freezer wrapping. Most of the guys are seem gruff, but they know their meat, and are happy to help clarify any questions. Checkout is a breeze, and often they pack the goods into a sturdy cardboard box for carrying. If you plan ahead, you can get 2 weeks of protein for your meals for under $30. Chicken and pork are the biggest savings here, and the beef is always a little bit cheaper at Arnold's versus a grocery chain. Plus, all of their meats are ground in-house and contain no additives and aren't washed in ammonia (unlike chains). THANK GOD. 2 days before Christmas and obviously they're PACKED. I love Arnold's selection and setup, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for help and today was no exception. Their butchers cut the meat however you want it beautifully and quickly, and they always know how to cook it for the best flavor if you need some advice. Their breakfast sausages are delicious and I usually stock up on chicken breasts since it's so inexpensive. The parking lot is usually a mess, but that's not really Arnold's fault, I wish they had just a little more space. I'm not as overly impressed with this place as I was hoping to be. I really thought I'd walk in and be blown away by the prices but truthfully they're not much better than your typical grocery store. We came middle of the day on a Saturday and I was glad to see that there was parking and it wasn't terribly crowded. I will say I was surprised to see as many random items as I did. Giant cans of condensed soup, massive bags of frozen clam strips, and who knew that canned mashed potatoes exist?! I purchased a few items such as frozen vegetables and stuff chicken breast but learned later in the day when I did go to my local grocery store that I wasn't getting any better of a deal at Arnold's. I was a little disappointed not finding a selection of ground turkey aside from Shady Brook Farm which is what I can buy at the grocery store for 1 to 2 dollars less than Arnolds. In the future I may consider a single trip to Arnold's to stock up on all of our meat for the month if they have a really good sale but for now I'll probably stick to Stop & Shop. Arnold's Meats in Chicopee is a great place to buy assorted meats. This is actually a butcher shop that will cut meats to order, and advise you on cuts of meat and preparation. I have literally bought hundreds of pounds of meat from them over the years and I have never had any problems. Their whole boneless cuts of beef are a good deal, delicious, and they will cut them any way you like. We usually get a roast and have the rest cut into steaks. Just grab a giant Flintstones size slab of meat, take it to the nearest guy in a butcher's coat and give him your name and how you want it cut up.
