Buyer Beware! I am really disgusted by the 2009 BMW X5 that was purchased last May from Armadillo Auto Sales in Lynwood, WA. $9,000 was paid for this SUV, and it started messing up the very next day. It stalls out on hills, it stalls out if you push it over 45 mph, its smoking like crazy. Close to another $9,000 was put into it trying to fix the issues, to no avail. Thats $18,000 that's been spent on a car that is useless. We cannot in good faith, try and sell this BMW to some other poor unsuspecting person in an attempt to recoup at least the sale price, and we'll be lucky to get a fraction of that with its current mechanical issues. My husband called them, and we were hoping they'd offer to do something to make this right, but apparently, that's not how Armadillo Auto Sales rolls. Shame on you! If I could give this dealership 0 stars I would. Bought a 2013 Subaru Outback right before the pandemic--within weeks of purchase it needed a new transmission, engine reseal, brakes, and alternator. After much ado with the owner who was hard to communicate with and would only do so via email, we got a refurbished transmission via Subaru since no private shop would touch it and the owner had the engine repaired at his shop. Lo and behold, once the pandemic eased up a bit and started driving a bit more, we noticed an oil leak. Brought it in for an oil change and had the dealer look at it and said the whole engine needs a reseal, that the last one was just a patch job. I contacted Armadillo immediately once we discovered that the transmission repair exhausted our extended warranty and I was vehement that I speak with the owner and find a resolution to this problem, as I felt I was sold a lemon. And without missing a beat, the owner quickly replied once I contacted the BBB, which he was upset that I contacted a "watchdog" and told me he would no longer communicate with me because I was snarky. I've been in customer service management for over 20 years and never would I ever dream of placing the onus on the customer; it is my job to stand behind whatever it is I'm selling and not be sexist and divert attention from the massive issues at hand (another $5000 worth of work because I also have an after market suspension as well that needs replacing). I say sexist because he would only deal with my husband, despite it being my car, and sited portions of my email that he didn't like as to why he was no longer talking to us; I guess he doesn't like when women speak up for themselves and make demands. Additionally, a local shop that I went to for a second opinion is telling me that it's probably not worth fixing. So I have every right to be upset and it's the owners job to alleviate my concerns and stand behind their business. Buyer beware and like others said, do yourself the favor and don't trust them, they will sell you anything. Get the car checked out first, or better yet, go elsewhere. I'm now out 12k in the middle of a pandemic. Thanks a lot, Todd. By the way, I'm sure he'll reply below and you'll get a sample of how he turns things around on the consumer. I didn't even look at the reviews (which I probably shouldve) but once I messaged them on facebook they were attentive and when I pulled up, they made sure I was in a parking space and daisy even came out to look for me to make sure I wasn't lost. They both worked within my budget and even made sure I had the best quote for insurance and a first time car with low payments and something that will last me for a good while. If I could give 0 stars I would. The absolute slimiest business ever. I bought this car mid pandemic, within the same day of buying the car the oil pressure light wouldn't go off, my dad is very hands on with cars and does pretty much everything on them ourselves. We changed the oil (it looked as though these guys put the wrong oil in just to save a buck) and it fixed the problem for a few months, at the cars 100,000 mile mark, I took it into VW for a service. They said the light coming on was probably most likely due to some sludge on the oil pickup screen. Today we dropped the oil pan to investigate if there was actually sludge (relatively easy problem to fix). It turns out there is actually 0 screen at all, it doesn't exist, when there should be one there. Now about 3k later I still don't have an answer on what this dealers hack job of a mechanic messed up on the car trying to save a few bucks. I feel beyond taken advantage of and screwed over. Do not buy a car here, and if you do, tack on at least 5k in repairs you'll have to make to fix what they messed up just to get the car to a passing level to be able to sell it. I would also like to mention I'm 21, this is the first car I've ever purchased and feel so scammed. Way to go armadillo! Taking advantage of their customers seems to be their thing through reading other reviews. I would like to note: if you're reading this and would like to fix your mistake I am happy to remove this review upon seeing a good faith effort to fix this problem. read more

I had an interesting experience with Armadillo Auto Sales. It wasn't perfect and unfortunately you never know what you get when purchase a used car. That's the reality of the business. However, I believe wholeheartedly the owner Todd takes his business very serious and places high value on customer service. He and the manager Bill work relatively hard to make sure the customer is happy. I personally commend anyone in the used car business because it is not easy, it's expensive and so many things can go wrong. As a buyer, I'd recommend that you do your due diligence when buying a car, regardless of what dealer you decide to go with. Have an additional person come with you so they can possibly catch things that you might miss out of excitement. Because once you drop that cash, that's it! I give them 5 Stars because of their fairness and again their commitment to customer service. In addition, I also give them a high rating because they are accessible either by phone or email if you need to speak to one and also, they have connections to quality mechanics. I bought my car about 2 months ago and yes unfortunately it did need some repairs. BUT, Armadillo referred me to auto repair shops that were affordable and efficient. It seems like once your a customer with Armadillo, you'll always be part of the "family" and they'll help you with highly discounted auto parts and repairs if needed. They don't leave you high and dry. We all know buying a used car in WA is "as is". And most dealers aren't obligated to do anything after you drop the cash and drive off the lot with the vehicle. I'm so glad Armadillo has integrity and cares about their customers. One more thing, during the car buying process I had my two little ones with me (2yrs and 7yrs). Needless to say they were bored and often times needed supervision while I completed paperwork, etc. The staff helped me out a lot! Bill had some healthy snacks and they also offered coloring books and crayons to keep them busy. Not to mention there are two super friendly dogs that kept them company. Hopefully, I won't need to buy a car for awhile but if/when I do...I won't hesitate going back Armadillo to see what they have. I was greeted right away and was even remembered from a prior phone call and he even had the car up front to look at. Right away I enjoyed his laid back attitude and welcoming demeanor. Had an extremely good experience with Matthew from Armadillo. They had a car I couldn't find elsewhere and I live in Vancouver, so he had to answer a lot of questions for me. I ended up (not generally a good idea) buying the car sight unseen. But Matthew was extremely careful to show me all the small cosmetic issues so I wouldn't be surprised. It was a lot like buying on eBay, he was overcautious if anything, and the car was better than expected. I took a train up to near Lynnwood and he was nice enough to pick me up in the car, after hours at that. So I had a 15 minute test drive before signing everything. Nice guy. Car has been great since. It's 13 years old so there's a minor trunk water leak when I park on inclines. An oxygen sensor went out after an engine cleaning. Nothing unexpected though. Overall, great experience. we spent our labor day weekend searching for a car. we've always owned Honda's (for as long as we both were able to drive). This is my 3rd Honda, and I'm very excited that we found Armadillo. It's a family owned and operated dealership; everyone we encountered were very welcoming and hassle-free. I mean NO PRESSURE AT ALL. Not to mention, our 1 year old was being a pretty loud guy that day and we didn't get any weird glances or side eyes; just a bunch of cool brothers (and pretty cool mother) that were pretty pleasant to our little guy. After visiting about 3 other dealerships we seen Armadillo as we were getting ready to get back on the road for a long drive back home (to Kent). The first car I seen was the Honda we ended up purchasing. My fiance' will be returning for a mid-size suv (probably the Pilot we also looked at). This dealership WORKS WITH YOU. I have no idea what the previous (low rate) yelper was talking about. I never ONCE got a "shady" feel from this group. The car needed a few minor repairs before it was considered PERFECT (new windshield, oil change and new sensor for traction control) and these guys offered to fix everything that day and we could pick it up in a couple of days, or drive it off the lot that day since it was drivable, and return at a later scheduled date to have the repairs rendered. We chose the latter, and everything they promised to fix they did. They even fixed something I failed to mention needed repair. We DID have to drive the car back out to them ourselves, but we didn't even think about having someone pick it up or having it towed since it was drivable. Even tho the warranty offers free towing. It didn't seem logical. But I guess if you're logic is opposite to ours you could give the dealership a low rate for being so far away.........on 2nd thought, nah, it's not their fault lol As stated in the beginning of this review, I'm thoroughly pleased and excited that I found this dealership. From the get-go, the response I was greeted with via email was disingenuous. I inquired about a vehicle listed online on several platforms. I was told the vehicle "was in high demand" even though several sites said it had been for sale for 161 days (Car Gurus). I decided to contact the repair shop listed on the free Carfax vehicle history report that had done the bulk of the work on the vehicle and ask if there were any known issues. The vehicle has about 2K worth of various needs (immediate, vehicle is probably leaking badly.) I kindly asked if the "sales manager would entertain bouncing a price off me considering the issues the vehicle has. Well, more than a day later and no response. If you're reading this, inspect your prospect vehicle well. Chances are it's on their lot because someone was not willing to invest the money for repairs. One star for poor follow up, and for attempting to sell a vehicle with known issues (2005 Passat TDI currently on their lot 7/16/20) read more

This is probably the 7th car I have bought or referred to a friend through Armadillo Auto Sales. Last week I purchased a 2004 Honda Accord EX-L with over 200,000 miles which for me is never a problem if I have purchased it at Armadillo! The car was in excellent shape, ran well and as I told them it was going to be for my daughter who was attending school I had to make sure it was going to have to be dependable. Sam was my initial point of contact who did a great job getting all of my info, then was transferred over to Tyler who has my sales rep over the last couple of years. Thanks Tyler again for putting this all together! Let me just say one thing about this group...."honesty"! They will not string you along or follow you as you shop around. Purchased a car for my daughter at Armadillo Auto Sales. The negotiation was straight forward, with a normal give and take. Husam the salesman told us the car had been thoroughly checked by a mechanic and had no problems. We drove the car home, from Lynnwood to Olympia, could hardly see. When we checked, we found that the front headlight was out. Took the car in today to have the headlight replaced and the mechanic found the following: brake pads need to be replaced, 2mm (huge safety issue, brakes can fail), air filter needs to be replaced, one tire has a puncture (possible blow out and no control of car), tab lights out and wiper blades need to be replaced. I don't understand how the Armadillo mechanic missed so many potential safety issues. After the sales manager, Bill, saw this review he immediately contacted us to sincerely apologize and ask what he could do to make it 'right'. We feel good about the outreach and Armadillo's willingness to have the brakes fixed and a new tire put on the car. This is a great example of how a mistake can be made and rectified. My review went from one star to four stars. Yes, I would recommend Armadillo Auto Sales, great customer service and genuinely caring about customers. read more

We bought 3 vehicles from Armadillo Auto on the same day, one for my wife, myself and my oldest son. We no longer own 2 of the vehicles, as the costs to continue fixing their preexisting conditions outweighed the cost of simply cutting my losses and moving on to different vehicles. With each of the vehicles there were initial problems that Armadillo attempted to address likely because I was in direct contact with the owner. A few times they even provided loaner vehicles while they worked on them. Their "mechanic" is just a salesman that works on cars, this gentleman broke the oil dipstick on one vehicle, and left a set of pliers LOOSE IN THE ENGINE BAY OF A CAR, which we discovered after driving it home. After brief initial attempts to fix the issues with the vehicles we were sold, Armadillo told us to stop bringing the issues to them, as they were losing money trying to make the cars we were sold driveable. This, of course, meant that my family instead got to eat all of the costs associated with the preexisting issues with all 3 of these vehicles. These issues included a $9000 transmission replacement, an $1800 clutch job (within a month of vehicle purchase), transfer case and differential box replacements, water pumps, alternators, extensive oil leaks in 2 vehicles, an axle that had been hammered into place, splitting the joint and case it should have been properly fitted into, and much more. Buying these cars from Armadillo was the most expensive mistake I've ever made. I would never go back to the dealership, they clearly sell cars from auction that are repaired to a minimal degree and cleaned up for sale to poor suckers like you and me. My suggestion in the future if you're looking for a used vehicle is to skip the middleman, go straight to the auction, or better yet buy from a private party that has maintenance records. Armadillo staff was pleasant and worked with me when I bought the cars, and for a short period of time seemed interested in making sure the cars were in good working order, but when the cars began to be too much of a headache, they didn't hesitate to tell me it was my problem, not theirs. Bought a Subaru Forester a bit over a year ago. The sale was fine and straightforward. Cesar was nice. The car hasn't had any major issues (one wheel bearing, to be expected with the model, and just oil changes otherwise) and is still running great. I was promised that a replacement for a broken heater switch was ordered, and we wrote it on the sale agreement that they would replace it. I didnt hear anything for a few months. I tried calling and left a message and have sent a couple emails without any response. I'm not in the immediate area so it isn't convenient to stop by. I figured I'd give them a chance but they dropped the ball. 2/5, car is good but don't expect any support after the sale. read more

I bought a car from here from a guy named Chad who was very helpful and their best salesman. He quit because of how poorly he was treated so my payments were now taken over by the other workers and they tried have me pay way more than was agreed and interest was not part of the deal. Excellent experience with the team at Armadillo a couple weeks ago. I found a car I was interested in on their website and called to make sure it was available. Came in the next day and was immediately greeted at the door by two adorable dogs and knew that this was already going to be the most laid-back car-buying experience possible. The rep I had spoken to over the phone was working with another client, so he handed me the keys to the car so that I could start the inspection of it by myself. Being able to look through a car without the pressure of another person standing there was something I hugely appreciated, and allowed me to properly gather my questions/concerns. They allowed me to take the car by myself down the street to have a pre-purchase inspection done at a dealership nearby, which meant I had the car for a couple hours. They offered me a very fair price for my trade-in, and were generous and proactive about taking care of the minor fixes that came about in the inspections. And the entire time we discussed prices and services, there was a dog to keep me company. So far the car is holding up great and I'm very pleased.
