Discovered AWW was conveniently only a couple metro stops from the convention center and dropped in to see a pre-owned watch listed on their website. Ethan, was very knowledgable about Grand Seiko but essentially let the piece sell itself to me. Slept on it overnight and went back the next day to verify it was keeping good time. Slight wrinkle when I decided to buy as the box and documentation had been misplaced, preventing me from leaving with it that day -- but it was shipped to my home and arrived a few days later. Watch movement and bezel insert damaged during what should have been a routine crystal replacement. Here's the full story: I brought my watch in to have a sapphire crystal installed after I scratched the original mineral crystal when it scraped against the edge of my kitchen counter. While I knew Arlington Watch Works (AWW) would likely charge more than Seiko for the crystal replacement, I wanted to support a local business. When I dropped off the watch, it was working perfectly, the movement having been serviced last summer by Seiko. When I picked up the watch, I took it home, was setting the time and noticed that the day indicator would not click past Friday. I immediately called AWW and told them of the problem, noting that the watch had been recently serviced, and they told me to bring it back. In the store, I reiterated the fact that the watch had been recently serviced and was working perfectly when I dropped it off. The younger technician told me I should send it back to Seiko as it's probably still under the post-service warranty. I responded that the watch worked when I dropped it off and now after AWWs sapphire crystal installation, it no longer works properly and that they should fix it. The AWW owner then chimed in from the back room that a crystal replacement wouldn't damage the movement. I reminded the owner that the watch worked properly when I dropped it off and now it doesn't. He, in an annoyed tone, told me to leave it and they would look at it. It's now been 2 weeks and my wife picked up the watch today after I received a text from AWW reporting "...we could not repair your timepiece and recommend sending it to the manufacturer for service...". Upon inspecting the watch, not only does the day not switch past Friday, but I now see that the bezel insert is scored with a deep gouge from about the 8 o'clock position clockwise to the 4 o'clock position. I can also see lint under the newly installed sapphire. I would also note that it is utterly ridiculous that AWW claims to not be able to fix the watch. This is a simple Seiko Turtle with a ubiquitous 4R36 movement. If they indeed don't have the skill to repair the movement, which they obviously damaged when the movement was removed for the crystal replacement, then they should have installed a new movement to make it right. I know they know this movement, because the AWW watch mods they sell use Seiko movements. So after $150 for the sapphire crystal and 5 weeks of time, I am left with a watch that can't tell what day it is, has a badly gouged bezel insert, and has visible lint under the new crystal. I expected much more from AWW and strongly recommend against taking any watch that you care about to AWW for any service. read more

I needed the seals on my Omega replaced after I noticed moisture on the inside of the crystal. Dan advised me and was able to complete the repair on-time and at a lower final cost than his original quote. It ended up being less work than originally anticipated. Now my Omega doesn't fog up inside the crystal and works beautifully. I would definitely take my watches here for service. Dan was straightforward and good to work with. The shop is small but nice. There is a nice watch strap collection for sale at the front counter. Also, he has a decent collection of vintage luxury pieces for sale. read more

I visited the shop today excited about the vintage watches and repair expertise they advertise. I asked the owner how much a used Captain Willard he was selling was going for. He said $1200. But the particular reference retails brand new for $1300. I asked him which movement the watch had. He said "whichever movement Seiko put in it." To sum things up, the shop is unreasonably priced and the customer service is unacceptable. Don't waste your time here. It's not a serious establishment by a long shot. Given the lack of attention to detail when it comes to simple things like basic customer service and fair pricing, I'm not shocked to hear other reviewers mention the shop couldn't handle the more complicated task of watch repair properly. read more

Dan does not stand behind his work and is rude and belligerent if he feels challenged. He literally yelled at me and accused me of trying to scam him when I expressed dissatisfaction with the work he performed on my watch. He also informed me in a threatening manner that I was being filmed as I stood in his shop. If you doubt that he would react in that manner, search his belligerent and demeaning responses to other negative reviews by his own customers. This is the place to take a vintage seiko, and perhaps any vintage watch. I have seiko 6105-8110 "CPT Willard" diver that I bought a decade ago from the phillipines, I had it overhauled, from a barely running condition, and dial, hands, and crystal replaced. It took about 7 weeks, but the watch runs perfectly and the work is clean. It's a one man show run by a true enthusiast who cares about outcomes. I had water damage to my Tag Carrera and brought it in to get fixed. The quote seemed high to me, but I didn't want to mail my watch to a repair service, and it had taken 2 weeks of leaving my watch with them to get the quote, so I left it with them to repair. Communication was not great, the time to repair was twice what I was told. When I picked it up it didn't seem right,two days later it wasn't keeping time and could not be wound. I took it back in and a few weeks later it was fixed again. Now, I have been wearing my watch intermittently over the past 2 months and have noticed that there is s smudge on the inside of the crystal and it does not keep time correctly. If you need a battery in a cheap watch, they are probably okay, but not so great at attempting to repair my $9,000 Tag. read more

Really disappointed. Brought in a Timex Ironman watch in excellent condition for a battery replacement. I asked if they could reseal the watch so it remained water resistant. They said they "couldn't guarantee" it would be, but that they would wet the gaskets which should keep it water resistant. I wore it once, and it didn't even get fully submerged, and water got into the watch and ruined it. Never have I had that happen before. Really frustrating. read more

I was incredibly disappointed with the service provided here, which was very surprising given how good the reviews are. The woman who helped me was not at all competent, and she created a significant scratch on the backplate of my antique Gruen. Of the four watches I brought in for service, she was only able to fix one, which only needed a new battery. She told me that she was unable to even diagnose the issue in the other three, and was unable to recommend any alternatives. I presume that the owner of the store is much more capable, but she clearly made no attempt to ask him for help. I will not be returning any time soon. read more

5 stars for an excellent watch repair service. My wife and I were looking for somewhere in the area that could fix our vintage Omega Seamaster without breaking the bank. After looking through Yelp reviews and asking around, we came upon Arlington Watch Works. Located in a little shop on Wilson Boulevard across from the Clarendon Metro Station, Arlington Watch Works is a former Georgetown-based shop owned by a gentleman named Dan. My wife dropped off our watch to Dan and subsequently received an estimate. Since I wasn't sure if the estimate was good or bad, I went back to the shop to pick up the watch and check with other repair shops. I walked into the shop and Dan greeted me while simultaneously ringing up another customer. I looked around his shop (which is full of watches on display) as he finished his sale and then spoke with him about the repair. He gave me some background on the particular watch, the repair involved, and the status of the repair market. He then gave me back the watch and welcomed me to come back by the end of the year if I wanted the repair and he would honor the quote. After checking around to a couple other shops, I realized the Arlington Watch Works had offered both the best price and the most straightforward and thorough explanation of the repair. I went back to the shop and Dan instantly recognized me. He even pulled out a monthly watch magazine he gets and showed me that the watch had become quite a popular item, which was really fun to see. I dropped off the watch with him and he told me it would be about 6 weeks for the repair due to the scarcity of parts. I said that sounded good and headed out. About 5 to 6 weeks later, I received a text message from the shop saying the watch was ready. I stopped in a week later and Dan once again almost instantly recognized me. I noticed his interaction with other customers, even on small wristband adjustments, was the same way, which really shows he understands how to provide great customer service. He proceeded to bring out the watch (after looking for it for a bit), give me directions on how it works, charge my card, and send me on my merry way. Overall, Arlington Watch Works provided me with great customer service and an excellent repair for a very fair price. Dropped by after hearing they had the best selection of vintage watches in the Washington area. There was indeed a nice selection, but it was commensurate with the size of the space. The owner was pleasant and knowledgeable, but when asked about servicing a vintage watch, he quoted high while directing me toward referrals from a well known national horological society... altogether a very tarof way of telling me he wasn't interested in the job. I can't say enough about Arlington Watch Works -- neither the excellent, consistently above-and-beyond service, nor the amazing fact that we have such as person as Dan, a certified Omega watchmaker, at our disposal right here in Arlington. No need to run into the District or to the watch place at Pentagon City; Dan can do it all, and with a smile, and at a fair price, and while having really interesting conversations with you as well! He is an expert and will educate you (if you are interested) about your watchpiece. In fact, he got it working again for a while, but warned me that if it stopped again, I would have to get repair done. And now that it is done, I'm kind of bummed, because it's such a pleasure to see Dan! I'll have to stop in sometime to see what his latest thoughts are. Dan, the owner, is the man. He's incredibly knowledgeable about vintage watches, and I've had him work on my 60s era Rolex before and he's done impeccable work. While I'm sure he's great for getting a new battery installed in your quartz watch, that's a bit like asking a Ferrari mechanic to do an oil change on a Civic. I was looking for a new Watch Repair store, since the one I was going to for years closed during the COVID shutdown. Looking at Yelp, I found Arlington Watch Works. I tend to ask for quotes since my first and last encounter with that repair place in Pentagon Mall. I went onto their website and wanted to get a quote to replace 2 of my watch's batteries. Within minutes, Dan responded and gave me a quote. This morning I went to the shop, took both watches in to replace the batteries, and went off to a meeting. Story: Favorite watch's battery stopped in midst of pandemic, & had to buy a new watch to tide me over. Brought in my watch in only to have him say the battery was fine, the watch had just stopped momentarily, possibly because it was an old watch, recommended sending to manufacturers for repairs if needed. He adjusted the metal watch strap to fit perfectly, and had a black metal watch strap that fit my new watch, adjusted it too, good fit. Prefer the click convenience of the metal bands Vs straps. I had a very negative experience here. I came in with two Bulova watches that needed servicing, one needed a battery and a new strap. The other, just needed a battery. I was told, to send them back to Bulova, and there was nothing more he could do. I am under the impression that because of the color of my skin and the state of my watches, he believed they were stolen and refused to work on them. Their website clearly lists all of their services and the brands they work with, Bulova is one of them. My Hamilton Chronograph Automatic stopped working recently, so I took it to a local watch shop for an estimate. Their estimate seemed high, so I decided to review other local watch shops before deciding to take it to Arlington Watch Works. When I dropped it off on 23 December 2019 it again started working on the way because when I handed it to the man behind the counter I was a little shocked. I explained it recently stopped and asked if they could take a look and provide an estimate. I was told it would take about 30 days, which I accepted. On 8 January 2020 I was sent a text explaining it was ready. That confused me because I was never provided an estimate. After calling them, I was told there was nothings wrong with it. So, I felt relieved that I wouldn't need to pay a bill. Today, drove out of my way to pick it up. It wasn't running. Rather than make a scene I determined I could not trust the shop and just left. I'll look for a third shop... I'm skeptical of any positive reviews for this shop which included service beyond battery replacements or band adjustments. As always your mileage may vary. read more
