So... I got a referraI to come here and see if a 'Mike' would be able to fix my German vehicle's satellite antenna... and I had high hopes. Fox Valley VW Dealer was ridic on the estimate so of course, thrifty shopper that I am, I got the skinny from them and started checking out my options. This place was one, heard they did well for someone else, and they were open today, so I went over... first impressions, not that well-maintained. I'm defo about ambiance and upkeep... clean car interiors matter FYI... but I digress. So... old office chairs and TBS playing 70s shows... this dude did not greet me when I came in, and i stood looking at him looking at the monitor for 2 minutes... So I ask if he was the person I spoke to on the phone and if i can get my Beetle looked at... and he responds (without looking up) "yes, but I'm in the middle.of something... so if you take a seat..." Yeah. Waiting is not my fave hobby. But I do... and check in on Yelp... so he prolly regretted that action cuz I foiled his quote for 4x 18" tires at $1500.. uhh a 2007 Saturn AWD is not a Bugatti... I redirected the dude to get some online (Tire Rack.com) for $605 including shipping. Back to Mike... after trying to assess my level of knowledge RE antennas... waste of another 10 minutes, he decided he couldn't fix my antenna (like I was gonna do biz after that Schyster deal on tires I saw... no wonder he got mad at me talking about that to the guy)... but referred me to someone by Mariano's... like I would go anywhere on HIS recommendation. If there is anyway you can afford to drive up or down northwest highway , do that without even stopping by to look at the sign. Exceptionally unfriendly and rude owner who by far forgot how to manage automobile repair facility towards nickel and diming for the state. Vehicle stayed at shop whole day for an hour procedure. read more

If you're needing help with the guts of an auto or truck, this is the place. After a few visits, you will find the level of knowledge amazing. I started with oil changes, then had him do brakes, bearings, water pump, et al. I wouldn't come here for a satellite antenna, but would come here for any engine or electrical issue for proper diagnosis and... wait for it.... perspective. You're not going to get the customer service polished white-glove treatment, and not sure I trust those places anyway. If you are looking for solid, honest, car repair and maintenance, give Mike a try. I trust him, and value his opinion. read more

I have had several jobs done by Mike and he has always been fair in pricing and getting the job done properly. If he doesn't know something then he tells me so. But that's rare. He has a great background in diagnosing issues on several of my cars- older to newer (1991 Volvo 240 to 2010 Infiniti). So, I've been very pleased with the service and the pricing. He is a single shop guy, so sometimes he may get a little delayed. But its never been a big deal from my standpoint. I'd recommend him- has been very honest in his dealings too. read more

My husband came here multiple times for his appointment. From the gecko, Mike, the owner was extremely rude on the phone. He reschedule last minute and we left our car at his location from 8:30am-2pm and still he didn't complete the job, even though it would've taken less than 30minutes. We ended up taking his car and going to another location even though it is further away. This place is completely rude, unprofessional, and knows nothing about what customer service means. I honestly wonder how this place is still open avoid at all cost and drive further if necessary. read more

Got a friend who recommended mike, he looked up parts and how to schematics on his computer before giving me an estimate. I needed a new clutch for a 10 year old honda. being an itty bitty car the sub frame had to come off then split the transmission and motor, several bolts were rusted and as expected some broke. he promissed the work in one day it took two. the price was reasonable. ill take my car back to him for the next 10 years. read more

He also figured out that my oil was a quart low and recommended an oil change - which he also did. Plus he rotated my tires for free just because he said they needed it badly. I'm biased as i live close by and it's convenient, but Mike the mechanic does great work and is honest (compared to other shops). As he works alone, sometimes it takes longer but the final result is great. I've had my old truck in to him multiple times and with some pretty tough jobs, and he pulls it off well. I met the owner Mike through a mutual friend and after listening to him talk I thought I would try his shop out. It was the right decision. He took my car in, changed the oil, and while it was up I had him check the brakes, rotors, and basically just give it thorough look. I wanted to get the car ready for winter and not have any problems. He gave me a list of problematic or soon to be problematic areas in highest need first and then explained to me why he thought x and y was needed. I knew some of it already but what was good to hear was my first concerns where not as important as others. I really appreciated the helpful tips he gave. The price on the oil change was comparable to others but the service is what sold me. They chose a good name, they have set the standard for what I look for now. I think as a whole 4 or 5 people I know have now used there services and some multiple cars for there whole family. Honest owner and quality service. read more

We have been driving 30 minutes from Bartlett to have our cars serviced at Arlington Standard since it's existence. I completely trust that Mike will fix it right the first time and won't suggest any unnecessary work. I've had numerous occasions when the Toyota dealer quoted my a very high estimate for various repairs and Arlington Standard is usually about 2/3 of the price. The dealership told me my power steering fluid was leaking and needed a costly repair. I took it to Mike, he said even if it was, it was not an urgent repair, fill it up and keep an eye on it. That was a couple of years ago and its never needed repair. Three of our cars are at least 9 years old and we plan to keep them for more years. I tell Mike to fix what needs to be fixed to keep them running well. Based on his long time experience, he knows what maintenance is important and does it without add-ons. Because he is not held accountable for up-selling, like corporate owned car repair shops, and has plenty of business, he doesn't sell you things you don't need.
