My familly has been going to Reber to get our cars fixed ever since we moved to Barrington in 1991. I live in the city (Chicago) and stopped going there after I moved out after college. Big mistake. I have gone to about a dozen car repair shops around the city and so many things have gone wrong and I have felt taken advantage of so many times. So have recently gone back to the family car-repair place Reber. Reber is not the cheapest, but they are the BEST. When it comes to car repair, I think that you really get what you pay for. So in the long run, it's probably less expensive to go to Reber than a "cheap" place because Reber does it right and they will NOT suggest things that you don't really need done. I couldn't afford to do what I needed done all at once, so they helped priorize when I should get each repair done based on how much I could spend at one time and what were the highest priority fixes. On a side note, having nothing to do with actual repairs, Terry, who manages/runs the front desk is Sooo nice (most auto places have horrible customer service - she always remembers my family members names by their faces :) ) and there are 2 adorable dogs that hang out there too :) read more

I took my truck in, which I had recently bought used, for a brake job. I had noticed a little squealing on stopping. They called me back within an hour or so, and explained that there was plenty of life left on the pads, and no need to do anything. Honesty is by far the best quality to find in a repair shop, and I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

Date of experience: November 12, 2008 OK, so I *always* get taken at the auto repair shop. Extra stuff and services I don't need is sold to me. Shoddy service is almost expected. I am a female and I was almost ready to believe there are no trustworthy and decent auto repair shops out there until I read the previous yelp.com review. I decided to try them out. I take a 5 star review seriously. Terry answered the phone and she got me an immediate appointment, she knew I might be driving a dangerous car. Charlie took a look at my lurching and dying car with a scary hissing sound - the "Check Engine" light was on. Within a short time, the situation was diagnosed, explained to me so I could understand it and fixed. Both people are open, honest and very, very decent. This is the small business that is run right and they understand that good service leads to more business. This is worth more than a heavy advertising campaign. I know I am a fan. Their project parking lot was filled with high-end imports, sports cars, family cars, domestics...they seem to be able to handle it all while maintaining quality service and very reasonable pricing. I was a little saddened to see that the original owner had passed away a few years ago, but I bet he would be proud to see that the current management and staff (still the original staff) have been working hard to keep up the name and reputation of his business. I trust them with my car and will be bringing it back for upcoming repairs. I highly recommend them. The last review by Raw F. still holds true. They are always available and determined to get to the root of a problem not just jump to a large expensive repair like a dealer would. Last year, August 2005, I took my car in for repairs, the check engine light had come on, and expected to be told I needed extensive repairs. They called me to tell me what needed to be fixed and it was just a small part. The cost was low and the work was quick and reasonably priced. Since then I have taken my wife's car in and they did a wonderful job with her car also. Honest auto repair, who knew it existed! read more

Have to give these folks a compliment and a shout out on Yelp. We've been coming here since we moved to the area in 1984! They've serviced 10 cars for us. Always have had good service and good advice. Most recently, though is the above and beyond that you get from a local place. Our son is going to college in Wisconsin and got a summer job in Montana. Need to make sure the truck is in good shape to make the trip to and from. He had recently had a rear axle seal replaced by Reber. He had some inspection done by a dealership in Wisconsin, and they told him that it needed to be replaced. He called home first (smart kid, huh), and we placed a call to Reber. Kelly took action -- she called NAPA and got him in touch with a repair place who would deal with the warranty if the seal wasn't good. He went in to see that dealer and they said they wouldn't be able to do the warranty work. Another phone call home. Kelly got on the phone again, and called us 4 hours later -- you can imagine the phone calls she made. She got action and he got a call from the repair shop to bring it in and they'd take care of it in Wisconsin. Hats off to Kelly -- above and beyond. We've never had a problem with any of the work done there, and have never felt ripped off. And they stand by their work. read more

We have used Reber for many years, and they are an OUTSTANDING CAR REPAIR business! They have always done great quality work, very fair prices, and are totally honest with me. They have worked on many of our cars over several years, and I have always had full trust in them. Kelly always is very helpful in explaining what my car needs, and even helping me prioritize when to repair what, to keep my car safe. She even gives me a ride home if I need it. And Dale is an Outstanding mechanic. Again, very talented and honest with me. Also.....Kelly and Dale have even gone to bat for me against a big dealer in town who wasn't fixing things (on a used car that I purchased from the dealer) as they were supposed to be fixed. I have a crystler concorde 02'. I had taken my car into Reber Auto because my check engine light was on. They had found that the problem was that my 02 sensors needed to be replaced. I had them replace these sensors and after I drove away the check engine like came back on. I returned to Reber Auto to have them check my car again.... they then had said that they would have to replace the entire computer system in my car for approx. $1000.00. I then decided to take my car to the Crystler dealership in Barrington who had told me that they would have to replace the 02 sensors because the wrong ones were put into the car and that if I would have gone to them first they probably would have been able to just update the car's computer system. I called Reber Auto about this and they would only refund the amount for the sensors and NOT the money for labor and the diagnostic service (which we all know that this is the most expensive part). Thank God I went to Crystler otherwise I would have been out $1348.00. I suggest to get a 2nd opinion before you get any work done by Reber Auto in Barrington, IL!!!! They have lost a customer and one who knows many people in Barrington! read more

Reber = Rip you off. Reber can NOT be trusted. Stay away. After a 25 year + history in Barrington with a good reputation, who ever is running it now has driven quality into the ground and is willing to fake repairs to pay the rent. I have had cars repaired by the prior management for 20 years. After the move to Pepper Road, I tried to continue to support the company, even though there were new people. What a costly mistake. I started to suspect when parts such as brake pads and wiper blades wore out within two months. I only now know for sure because I started taking my cars to another location and learned that Reber 'faked' repairs when the new place showed me the same old struts or transmission or belts (that I had paid Reber to replace) were still in place. Unbelievable! I think they have been on the brink of going out of business for a while. No wonder since they have zero business ethics. Please heed this warning. Stay far away from Reber Auto...as in Automatic Rip-off! read more
