We have been with the practice -- and Dr. Zeman specifically -- for 17 years for our two children (now adolescents). Dr. Zeman is EXCELLENT. She is super responsive, always knows the research and best practice, and very compassionate. My children love her. This office is great if the only thing your child ever gets is strep throat. If your child comes in with a sore throat, they'll diagnose your child with strep throat. If your child has appendicitis, they'll diagnose your child with strep throat. If your child comes back a couple days later because they still have appendicitis and are getting worse, they'll diagnose your child with - you've guessed it - strep throat again. We had an absolutely terrible experience where three different pediatricians misdiagnosed our son's appendicitis over the course of a week. We went in on a Saturday because my son had intense abdominal pain beginning the previous night. Abdominal pain was his only complaint and symptom. We saw Dr Landis and she diagnosed him with strep throat. He had no sore throat and no cough, which was how he presented with strep when he had previously had it. We were surprised considering his symptoms, and my husband even mentioned that we were worried about appendicitis. "No," said a wildly incorrect Dr Landis, "If it were appendicitis, he would not be able to walk." Two days later, my son was not better, instead he still had abdominal pain and was now also presenting with 101+ fevers, not eating, felt achy all over, and was severely fatigued. We tried to get an appointment for someone to see him 48 hours after the initial appointment, but the person answering the phone said no and to give it another day. So first thing the next morning we were back and with these increasingly worsening symptoms, Dr Zeman diagnosed him again with strep throat and changed the antibiotic. Two days later, the office called and said the throat culture was negative for strep (to the surprise of absolutely no one living in our house), and we should come back the next day if he wasn't better. He obviously wasn't better since he had only been treated for a misdiagnosis of strep throat twice. This third time, now a week after his first symptoms presented, he saw Dr Kepler, who at least managed to not diagnose him with strep throat. She suggested a viral source, maybe mono, but at least ordered blood work. Later that evening, the blood work showed he had a raging bacterial infection. After receiving the results of the blood work, she called us and said we should go to Children's ER to figure out the source of the infection. When the PA in the ER asked my son where his pain was, he pointed to his appendix with the precision and accuracy of a fourth year medical student. This ER Nancy Drew ordered an ultrasound, which showed a perforated appendicitis. (Yes, Dr Landis, it turns out you can walk around with appendicitis.) Even if this had been treated more seriously or thoroughly at the first or second appointment at Arlington Peds, I realize we still might not have caught this before his appendix perforated, but my son certainly did not need to get as sick as he became over the course of that week. Not surprisingly, we chose to leave the practice. We are very lucky that our children have been healthy, but in this instance, when we needed a pediatrician to actually listen to our child and see this was a BIG DEAL, we instead received a series of mis-diagnoses, delays, and condescending attitudes. read more

My little one is eight months old and I've been so impressed with Arlington Pediatric Associates. When he had croup earlier this month, the nurse on-call at night got back to us within minutes, gave advice, and then checked in again after consulting with the doctor on-call. In the morning, the staff reached out to see how baby was doing and we were scheduled for a visit that morning. Little one's pediatrician is Dr. Elizabeth Pisarik and we could not be more thankful for her. Dr. Beth is incredibly skilled, kind, and patient; she clearly loves and respects the little ones she works with. My son is now 19 and my daughter will soon be 21. They began seeing Dr. Schofield when my son was born, so we have a long history with the practice. I can't begin to praise Dr. Schofield enough. I wish I'd had such a great pediatrician when I was a kid. He gets down to kids' levels and treats them with respect and kindness. As my own kids have grown, he continues to speak to them with respect and values their contributions to their conversations. Medically, he's never steered us wrong, and we've been grateful for his insight and advice. Luckily, my kids never had overly major problems, but even so, we always felt in good hands with Dr. Schofield there for us. Once my daughter became a teen, she wanted a female doctor, and she found an excellent partner in crime in Dr. Sheldon, who also practices at Arlington Pediatrics. My daughter loves Dr. Sheldon (as do I) because Dr. Sheldon makes my daughter feel comfortable and relaxed, even when she was going through typical teen issues. It was always Dr. Sheldon who could speak to my daughter about concerns that I had, without ever letting on that it was mom who wanted certain issues addressed. My kids will soon age out of this practice, which makes me somewhat sad, but I'm happy that the experiences that they've had with Arlington Pediatrics have set them down the path to experiencing excellent in health care management. read more

Our three children have been seen by them for almost ten years, and it's hard to overstate how much we've appreciated their care, wisdom, and the confidence they've given us. The doctor who primarily treats our kids is Dr. Landis. We wish "doctors for grownups" were all as great as her. Our children have been seeing Dr Sheldon for several years and love her. She's attentive, listens to our concerns, connects well with our little ones, and has a great sense of humor and bedside manner. The whole practice is fantastic! They are on call 24/7 and it's always a doctor that calls you back after-hours. They can see you on the weekends too if it can't wait until Monday. They have walk-in every morning 8-8:45am. The nurses are also wonderful! Wether it's walk-ins or weekends, we've seen every doctor in the practice at least once and they are all wonderful. I wish I had a primary care doctor who was as available and responsive! You should absolutely bring your kids here! read more

My family recently moved to Arlington and I heard great things about this practice. I heard they were accepting new patients and scheduled a new patient meet-and-greet (1 month wait for an appt). My schedule abruptly, I missed my appointment. Missing the appointment was my error. I call the next morning to apologize and see if I could reschedule. The receptionist kindly rescheduled my appointment. Shortly thereafter she called me back and briskly informed me that I could not reschedule my appointment because I missed it, my child could not and would not been seen by the practice, and then hung up on me before I could respond in anyway. I understanding that I missed my appointment, that was my fault. I was nothing but polite, but their response was disgraceful. I am a busy, full-time working mother doing my best; any parent deserves more respect than to be hung on by a doctor's office. I have also never heard of a pediatric practice that "blacklists" children for a parent's error. Really? read more

I am a former employer and worked for Arlington pediatric for a year. I enjoyed working with all of the doctors , scribes, receptionists , and other nurses. Everyone was so positive and friendly. After about 4 months I felt as though I was getting picked on by the nurse manager who has been there for multiple years. She was intimidating and did things to make me feel Like I was horrible nurse and staff member. For example , there was multiple days where she turned my work phone off so that I could not do Patient triaging phone calls. She also monitored my lunch breaks and called me out if I had to clock out late for lunch to help out a doctor. For a month she made me message her when I left work late and I had to explain myself of why I was leaving late. She didn't do this to other nurses , only me. She talked poorly about other staff members including the doctors infront of me. It was unprofessional and very uncomfortable. It turned into a negative environment for me which lead to me finding a new position. It was not healthy for me to cry in my car on lunch breaks because of how uncomfortable the nurse manager made me. I hope the doctors corrected this environment. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Zeman for 5 years now, from before our first child's birth to present, and we could NOT be happier with this practice. From the care we've gotten for the normal ailments - diaper rash, sudden fever, ear infections, conjunctivitis, to the more esoteric illnesses, we have never felt like we did not have their complete attention and the best of care. For walk ins, we don't always get to see our normal pediatrician, but Dr Sheldon, Dr Schofield, and Dr Landis have all also taken good care of us. The nurses are fantastic - Aaron gives shots so fast that sometimes my son doesn't even realize what's happened. And most important, we feel safe, and we anticipate our kids will feel safe when it comes time for us to be out of the room. read more

We take our first-born to Arlington Pediatrics and are continuously impressed by the level of care that they provide. Here are the reasons that we think they are a five star operation: 1) Walk-in hours: From 8AM-9AM, M-F, they take in patients on a first come-first serve basis for walk-in service. We had no idea how useful this would be until our child's first year and we learned how frequently we might need to go to the doctor. There's nothing quite like knowing (after a long night of crying) that you could be seen by their doctor first thing in the morning. 2) Extended time. The doctors here do not rush through routine exams. Instead they typically take more than twice the time that insurance typically asses a doctor should conduct a pediatric physical. They don't pay nurse practitioners or physicians assistants to do the physicals or even the shots - the pediatricians here do all the work themselves. 3) After hours support: When you call for after hours support, one of the doctors from the practice returns your call. Not an RN in a call center - just one of the doctors from the practice. 4) Great care all around: It's abundantly clear that the pediatricians love children. I have watched them pull some great tricks to get a kid to hold still while a cold stethoscope touches their chest. They're patient with them and yet somehow still manage to get all of the diagnosis they need. Since they run a thin margin, there are some services that they don't offer. 1) They don't take credit cards. 2) They charge for extra copies of medical records (should you lose them). 3) They don't have free parking (although it's generally available at the pay lot nearby). 4) They're not close to the MBTA. 5) They don't use electronic medical records (that I can tell). All that said, if you are looking to get away from the large institution dominated primary care market, or are just looking for a pediatrician who will be highly available, this is the place. As far as the doctors go, most of the doctors aren't taking new patients. We went with Dr. Zeman, who is new at the practice and she has been great. read more

We've with this group for almost 20 years. My youngest son will be aging out of the practice soon. I doubt he or my other son will find this level of care anywhere else. Matthew Schofield is a great clinician and a great, thoughtful, caring human. Treats the whole person.
