We had a satisfying lunch here after walking around Isle La Motte…read more The variety of items in the display case was good and gave a lot of choice. Two people had the ham and cheese pastry which was generously filled and smelled great. I had a small Hawaiin pizza. The pizza crust was an obviously pre-made crust complete with the holes all over it that those types of crust typically have. It wasn't a fantastic crust BUT it was prepared well and not dried out. It was soft and bready and the rest of the toppings were great including the ham. We had 2 Heath bar cookies and they were absolutely top-notch. I would definitely go back here for the tasty well priced food, spacious pleasant dining area and overall feel. There were a few insects flying around the room the day we were there. They are probably tough to keep completely out of the room in spring but they are off-putting for sure.

St. ALBANS LOCATION This location sits where the Hangry…read moreDonut Bar was located. Inside, small changes have been made (see photos). Customer Service was good. Simple menu. Delicious display of desserts. Baked breads available. And different items throughout the store. I and a couple others ordered Phillys with a side of mac. My Philly was seasoned well, good amount of cheese, bell peppers and onions. It was on white bread and wrapped in foil. The mac was thick and creamy. Texturally the pasta was slightly chewy and the cheese sauce was thick. It coats your tongue. I believe it's a white mac (vermont cheddar, most likely. As it was sharp and slightly sweet). It was packaged in a 4oz to go cup with lid. I also picked up a magic bar and a cinnamon roll (not pictured). My only complaint, is when a co-worker went an hour later and ordered the same thing, her sandwhich looked better. It was double the meat and her bread was toasted. So there seems to be a bit of inconsistency depending on who makes the sandwhich. I'll post pics of both sandwiches.

Vt Bake House - My Philly on plain white, not toasted. I was not asked if I wanted the bread toasted. I don't know if another type of bread was available.

Finally, some decent poutine! I've tried it 2 or 3 times elsewhere and have always been…read moreunimpressed. Soggy french fries drowning in a mess of metallic-tasting gravy and cheesy bits that don't seem to belong. Not here. These were pretty good. Thick-cut steak fries with a crust prevented any sogginess. As did the gravy: a proper amount so it didn't resemble french fry soup. Perhaps not made from scratch but at least from a decent stock base so it had actual flavor, wasn't pasty-thick from flour, and the quantity was reasonable. The cheese curds had very little flavor of their own but I liked their texture: just slightly chewy and beginning to melt from the heat but not completely. Overall the dish was rather salty, much of which came from the smoked meat add-on. (Montreal) smoked meat is similar to what is called pastrami or corned beef in the USA. It was in the form of cut-up squares of deli slices liberally sprinkled on top. I think I'd prefer small diced cubes, the size and shape of bagged frozen carrots. Interesting, though I think I'd try one of their many other add-ons next time. I'd probably be bored with plain poutine. The best poutine anywhere? I'm still too new to this dish to say for sure. Probably not the best but good, fun to eat, and filling. I think we shared a small and it was enough for both of us for a light lunch. We also had coffee which was above average and came with free refills. Being a nice day we sat outside in the sidewalk dining area and watched the activity on the Bedford main street. There is table service outside but you go in to pay. Our waitress was great, spoke pretty good English, and helped me connect my phone to their wifi. Inside looked nice too. There was a main cafe area and a back room filled with pool tables, foosball, dartboards, and the like. It's mostly a breakfast and brunch place. There are many standard breakfast items but I'm more intrigued by the breakfast poutine and crepes. The desserts looked great too but I didn't try any. Definitely worth a visit. I'd try it again for sure.
