The owner of the business does not deliver quality on the alterations. She charged $30 to shorten two t-shirts. I had to make several trips because the shirts were not ready when promised. There are alternatives for alterations in this area. Stay away from this business. She is extremely unfriendly. I give the business one star though that may be overrating the experience. read more

We have taken many items to Ms Arlene and have never been displeased with her work and the cost of her tailoring. My husband has many designer suits, blazers and shirts. We trust every items to Ms. Arlene's skill. Recently, we took a Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit to Ms. Arlene. We assumed the jacket was a loss since there was a small, but obvious hole in the back. Miraculously, she was able to take fabric from the sides and bring the back in enough to cut out the hole. I was truly amazed at the work and how affordable the alterations were. We could go on and on about her work but I have suggested Ms. Arlene to many friends and that speaks volumes. Be patient, good work isn't fast and fast work is cheap. The only issue is the location of her shop on Newcastle Street. If you're not looking you'll pass right by. Parking is ample on the side of the building if you can not fit at the front. read more

The work that she does may eventually be great - however read ALL the 1 star reviews before chosing this service!! I dropped a torn comforter for repairs on a Friday. She told me it would be done the next Wednesday and gave me a pick up ticket showing it would be ready Wednesday. I called Wednesday morning and she said it wasn't done, to come on Thursday after 11 am. I showed up Thursday at 1:30 pm and it wasn't done. She again said it would be done by Friday and 11 am. I called Friday at 12:30 pm and it still was not done. She said on the phone she would work on it "right away", it will be done in 15 minutes. I arrive at her shop an hour later and she still hadn't started it. She had nothing to say and didn't apologize at all. I took the comforter back as three strikes you are out! I am not sure how she stays in business treating customers like that. I would hope that she stops promising what she clearly can't deliver or handle - read the other reviews on Google - the same thing happened to them. BEWARE! read more

I went to another alterations place before being referred to Arlenes. The other place quoted me 300-500 to do simple alterations on my wedding dress. A local shop referred me to Arlenes and she took my dress with no issue. Since she is the only good and reliable (and cost friendly) alterations place in town, she is always busy but I promise you she will always get you your things on time. Just call to check in periodically, she does everything on her own, no help. She made my wedding dress BEAUTIFUL. The craziest part of all, she charged me $55. My mind was blown, I went back the next day and gave her $100. I am so thankful for her. She was so kind and sweet and on top of her busy schedule she took the time to make sure I felt beautiful. NEVER GO HERE. She'll take your money and not do the job. When you go to her shop to pick up what you needed altered on the specified day, she'll keep her shop closed. I needed my wedding dress altered. All I needed was it taken in a little at the bust. She had over a week to get it done. I needed to pick it up Wednesday, July 6. I was going out of town Thursday and Friday to see my fiance graduate from Marine bootcamp and she isn't open on Saturday. We paid her for the job and she said she'd have it done. Well, come Wednesday she didn't open her shop. I was getting married Saturday. I was devastated. It took me months to find a wedding dress and it was perfect. I wound up going to Lady In White and buying another dress because I didn't know if she was going to open her shop at all that week. While I was in South Carolina seeing my fiance, my brother went to her shop. She didn't have my dress ready and refused to give us our money back because, and I quote, she "don't do no refunds."
