My 12 year Border Collie had to have about 1/4 of her bottom jawline removed after finding a lump ( Canine ACANTHOMATOUS AMELOBLASTOMAS) Dr Michael Balke was the doctor who performed her surgery and did an amazing job. All the staff were very informative, friendly and caring. I was informed by text, phone and photo updating during the 3.5 hour surgery. I felt very confident during the entire process that my baby was in excellent hands. Our most recent visit was in the Dermatology dept. to treat a stubborn ear infection that had lasted 9 months. After our visit and follow up appointment the ear infection is gone. We also had our Golden Retriever treated here for oral cancer in 2004 then again for cancer in her eye in 2014. I highly recommend this vet. read more

Front desk polite, tech was sweet and friendly, wait for doc to come to our room -too long. I mean serioulsy, WHO likes to wait for a doctor?! I don't want to wait in the lobby at any doctors office so having to wait in a small room for more than a few minutes for the doctor to finally come in really gives me a bad impression, especially when we're the first client/patient of the day. We came in to see Dr. Church (Cardiology) for a cardiac auscultation exam for pre-breeding and OFA. Exam went well, for which I am very pleased since the exam was on a veteran dog. Dr. Church was pleasant and willing to discuss concerns, treatments, meds, trials, etc. in relation to cardio issues and the breeds afflicted. I appreciated the fact he took the time to offer the various bits of information. I noticed the other reviews of this practice seemed less than ideal but want you to consider that in some situations these pets being brought here are going to see a specialist, not the whole practice. After I left Pride Animal Hospital, I called and made an appointment for early the next day, 6:30am to be exact. This is perfect for me since I work night shift and with 6:30 I could just get off work and go straight there instead of staying up half the day when I was normally sleeping. I met with the assistants and Dr. Tara Enwiller. I loved all of the staff, including the front-desk. They were very thorough and Dr. Enwiller was very helpful in describing what had happened, whereas Dr. Chen was unable to. They brought out the two estimates (closed re-set of dislocation or the open surgery). They explained all the risks and everything to me. Aside from the seemingly simple procedure costing a lot, it was painless. I actually opted for the more costly provedure, which I had to put 70% down. But, I said they were to just do the less costly procedure. Then I left for home, slept, and picked him up when I was done. The post-op debriefing was also well done. I need to go back here soon to see if I can get his cast fixed (not their fault). So, I think this place is top notch. My cat has a cast on with an awesome looking fish decal on it and he seems happy with no pain. I will chalk that up to a good clean procedure. read more

Receptionists were great. Squeezed me and my puppy in when she needed surgery for a broken knee. However- the experience from time of pick up until now has been awful. The managers and vets are condescending and uncaring. My best friend picked up my puppy, and they never id'd her or asked her her name. When they called to check up on her they told me that my friend denied go home instructions (not true!!) My frenchie had surgery to open up her nostrils and I was told they would be perfect and I would never know the difference. My show dog now has two different sized nostrils and the vets response was horrid, "who cares what she looks like she can breath". I love my dog regardless of how she looks, the point is that they did not do what they said. 4k later, and I wish I never took her to this facility. BEWARE. read more

Honestly, from start to finish we felt seen and heard and they truly care! They're definitely on the pricier side and we couldn't afford the tests suggested but we are still grateful they saw him (confirmed his vitals were good) and it's nice to know they exist for emergencies and won't turn you away. read more

Dr. Church came highly recommended from a client. My only regret is that I didn't make an appointment sooner. My 13 old Shi Tzu Sophi has a bad Mitral Valve and even though we had her on Vetmedin and were limiting her excercise, the dog was having frequent fainting episodes and coughing due to Congestive heart failure. Dr Curch put her on an increase dose of Vetmedin as well as a heart supplement for dogs with CoQ10, Taurine, etc. The difference is night and day, no more fainting episodes and I can tell sophi is already back to her old self, wanting to run and play and go for walks, and no more coughing due to CHF Dr Church was very knowledgeable and courteous, he took the time to really explain everything and answer all our questions, and he did NOT push for unnecessary diagnostic testing. Yes Dr. Church is expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. And seeing our dog in good health and knowing that sophi has a few more years life left is priceless :) read more

I will go into extensive detail later, but my experience was very similar to that of Chandra's with Janet Bailey. I took my dog in with certain symptoms and a history of auto-immune issues. She then allowed us to spend over 2K$ on xrays and a sonogram. In retrospect I recall her saying that she may not even be able to see anything on the sonogram due to my dog's size, but I feel they played on our emotions and love for our dog to push us to make this decision. The vet tech who handled my dog was extremely rude and mishandled my very well behaved dog right in front of me - twice. The last time they asked to come in for a "tech check" and I refused as I did not want this woman alone with my dog. No dog is thrilled to be at a veterinarian's office, but she was absolutely terrified of this chick. I had expressed this to the front office staff and Janet Bailey who assured me she would not be allowed back around my dog again. Then after a consult with our regular vet we went back to get an idea of what "Dr" Bailey thought and there this tech was again. They wanted to take blood and I refused, in great part because I doid not want her out of m sight with my dog. I suggested that I may be able to get some of the tests done somewhere else at a more reasonable cost and this same vet tech told me that they would just charge me a fee to review them so I may as well get them done there. No review fee could equal the almost double cost estimate given by my personal vet versus what they suggested. This to me was a clear indication that they were in fact looking for money and not a solution to my dog's condition. In a few weeks care in another vet's office my dog is doing better and I do not have anxiety over his intentions or that he will take his bottom line into greater consideration than my beloved pet's health. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy - because, hey, their dog didn't do anything. read more

I quite like the opthamologist, Dr. Wasserman. He was very gentle with my dog which made the exam less traumatic for the both of us. All my questions were answered, and I never felt like the doc was trying to push any unnecessary tests or meds on me. I am less pleased with the emergency side of the office. When we took our dog due to fluid accumulation in his chest, the vet started talking about putting him on oxygen, keeping him overnight, and getting a cardiac consult which would be at least $1000 *just for the consult* Luckily, the emergency vet was able to get ahold of our regular cardiologist who suggested the best course of action and allowed our dog to come home with us. Sadly, our sweet boy passed away a few days later. They were great about taking him in for cremation. The cremains were ready when promised, and they were nice enough to send us a sympathy card. Which makes it all the more disturbing that a couple months later, they sent us a postcard to remind us to bring in our dead dog for a follow-up eye exam. read more

Money trap. The moment they see you, they will give you an estimate worth thousands of dollars. I will stay out of this place. When they charge you, front desk says only 1400$ dollars. When pet care is so expensive, these places become money traps. The Emergency business for vet care is this; doctor X was in shift when your pet arrives then doctor Y takes over. Doctor Y has different ideas than doctor X and recommends more tests which turns out to be negative. Then Doctor Z comes and tells you, well they don't know. It is a money trap. They will try to take every dollar you have and will have especially if you look concerned, vulnerable. read more

I've had just the opposite experience at AZ Veterinary Specialists and with Dr. Bailey. Several other vets in the Valley were dismissive of my dog's symptoms and horrific laboratory results and just chalking them up to her age. She's only 10. In disgust, I took her to Dr. Bailey who identified the root cause of my dog's condition and aggressively and correctly treated her. She spent an hour explaining the situation, illustrating on a chalk board the location of the kidney damage and discussed short and long term effects. She gets it. She gets that we need to know and we need to have options. We elected to have a feeding tube inserted and Dr. Bailey and Sam, our vet tech, took at least 30 minutes to teach me and review potential problems I might encounter. Any time I've suspected a signficant problem, I've been instructed to just come down right away and we're seen immediately. We too have spent thousands of dollars and it is money well spent. Our dog is healthier and on the mend. The front desk staff and vet techs are the most pleasant I've had the pleasure to meet in years. They are caring and responsive. I'm looking for another routine vet for our other pets simply because most of our vet's staff is so rude, uncaring and unpleasant. I highly, highly, recommend Dr. Bailey and AZ Veterinary Specialists. read more

Aside from chronic irritable bowel disease and heart disease that Gus had been receiving treatment for, my amazing little 16 year old dog who was loved like a son, was doing just fine: eating, drinking, playing, going for walks, begging for treats, and giving love to his family. Then on 10/1, Dr. Church (cardiologist) started Gus on treatment with enalapril (which is known to cause kidney dysfunction as a possible side effect) without checking to make sure his kidneys were healthy enough for that medicine. Within a couple of days, Gus started showing symptoms of kidney injury and even though enalapril was discontinued after 5.5 days on 10/7 he never recovered. His lab tests on 10/9 confirmed his kidneys were adversely affected by the treatment so I brought him to an internal medicine specialist at Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Scottsdale on 10/14. Despite having abnormal kidney and liver lab test results on 10/9, 10/14, and 10/27, weight loss, lethargy, hind quarter weakness, and decreased appetite, all of which are symptoms of advanced kidney disease and kidney failure, the internal medicine specialist failed to provide proper treatment for Gus to support his kidneys. After 3 weeks of lab tests and procedures, Gus's health had declined to a point that he was no longer eating or drinking and was so weak and dehydrated that he had trouble walking. On 11/2, the internal medicine specialist told me that Gus had early kidney failure and should be euthanized within a few days. In those short 4 weeks after starting treatment with enalapril, I watched my baby decline each day to a point of suffering when I finally had to make the heart breaking decision to let him go to Heaven on 11/4. Dr. Church treated Gus for 7 years prior and I am very grateful that he helped delay onset of congestive heart failure; however, he should have known better than to start a 16 year old dog on a drug that could cause kidney dysfunction without first checking current kidney health by a simple lab test. I wish I knew then what I know now and I could go back in time and make different and better decisions for Gus. I entrusted 2 veterinary specialists with the precious life of my baby Gus, and now he's dead. This horrible tragedy was certainly avoidable and I'll regret that for the rest of my life. read more

Dr. Beaver is great, takes the time to answer all questions, works with you on treatment plans, is very understanding and helpful, returns your messages and helps in any way she can. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Worst thing that happened to my dying dog was nightmare vet Dr. Tara Enwiller. She did a spinal tap what was so full of blood, no vet could read it so just four days later my little 6 pound dog had GET ANOTHER spinal tap -- at another vet office -- so the results could be read. And Tara Enwiller did the spinal tap directly into my dog's badly affected, crippled neck, something other vets told me they had no idea WHY she would do that -- they did the next one into his lower back. Tara Enwiller did not return EIGHT phone calls I made to her office to talk about the result of my dog's tests that she had done, nor discuss his prognosis, his diagnosis, nothing. She was MIA to discuss his case and the $1,200 worth of tests she had done, even though I had gotten my dog back from her far more crippled than when she got him. She also did an expensive CT scan when all doctors told me they would have done an MRI. Seems like she sold me what she had -- NOT what was best for my dog. She was rude, incompetent, uncaring, and a poor excuse for a vet. She never even touched my dog during the consultation, I had to ASK the office manager to please have Enwiller examine my dog during an examination! Top of Enwiller's incompetence with the rude attitude of office manager Jessica Greybill, and you have a disaster for your pets. Arizona Veterinary Specialists (Southwest Veterinary Surgical Service) is the last place you should entrust your beloved pets to. I started a court case against Enwiller and had as a witness the Chief of Radiology from one of the USA's top vet teaching hospital who said, among other things -- "Had she simply talked to you, and told you the details of your dog's tests, you would have KNOWN he had no chance. You could have stopped spending money and putting him through tests and let him die peacefully." Instead I ran him from vet to vet, including getting his tests redone and flying him to Oklahoma State University Vet Teaching Hopsital to REDO all her tests. (Lucky for nightmare vet Tara Enwiller, I dropped the case as I had to be out of the country for 5 months.) And what my beloved dog really needed was nothing - he needed to spend his last few days dying at home with me, comfortably, quietly, in peace. Instead he was poked, prodded, injected and passed from doctor to doctor. Dr. Tara Enwiller -- you are a nightmare. You should stop pretending you give a damn about animals. Money -- yes. The true welfare of the animals in your care -- no. This review applies to the Internal Medicine division of Arizona Veterinary Specialists/Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists (not sure what their official name is). I was reading reviews in my search for a veterinarian closer to our new home, when I ran across these reviews. The bad memories from our experience with Arizona Veterinary Specialists/Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists came flooding back full force. In the summer of 2008, (seems like yesterday), we had an experience very similar to those reported by Heather D. and Chandra A. when we took our cat to Dr. Bailey (internal medicine). Our cat had severe anemia. After extensive testing at our regular vet, we suspected mycoplasma, but the tests were inconclusive, so we were referred to Dr. Bailey. We spent several thousands of dollars on tests, and when the diagnosis was finally made, it was as suspected: a bacterial infection from mycoplasma. I do understand how difficult it is to find mycoplasma in blood tests, but I also believe they played on our emotions with extensive testing. One day when we brought our cat in for a blood draw, we asked if they would give her a dose of her oral meds while we were there. We figured since they already had two techs with her, how hard would it be for professionals to give a 9 pound anemic cat some medicine? What a surprise when we found an $18 charge on our invoice for dosing her. Seriously? I suppose after all the money we'd spent that $18 was nothing, but it illustrates their money-over-care philosophy. The front desk was regularly unfriendly and acted like we were newcomers at every visit, despite the fact that I had been in their office every other day for for several weeks. Sadly, we ended up having our beloved Poki put down when the treatment was unsuccessful. When I returned a couple of days afterward to pick up a receipt for the euthanasia, the woman at the front desk (whom I had seen dozens of times), acted as if she had never seen me. No, "Gee, I'm sorry for your loss," no, "How are you doing?" -- not even a greeting. All she said was a cursory, "Your name?" I wasn't expecting a hug and a crying jag, but a simple acknowledgment of our loss would have been welcomed. Even if she had not remembered me, she had just printed out the receipt for euthanasia, so clearly she knew something difficult had transpired. I ended up writing a letter to Dr. Bailey, and, to her credit, she did call me to apologize for the lack of compassion from the staff. I told her I hope I never see them again. I would not recommend Dr. Bailey or anyone in the Internal Medicine division of Arizona Veterinary Specialists. Again, this review applies only to the Internal Medicine division. I recognize that specialized medical care (whether for humans or pets) carries a high price tag, but for that price, I expect a corresponding level of expertise and treatment. We have also taken other pets to the emergency side, and they were fine under the circumstances. Better than First Regional for sure. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I do not recommend taking your pet here. In July my dog got hit by a car. And if you're like me, pets are family. The car fractured his femur in multiple places and his pelvis in multiple spots as well. Every vet we had talked to referred us to Southwest and said that is the place to take him to. So obviously, we did. He went through his first surgery and Tara Enwiller put a pin and a plate with 8 screws in the femur and 2 screws in the pelvis (one on each side). Post x-rays looked great and we were excited to start the healing process so we could get back to our normal lives. About 3 weeks later, he was going to sit down, I heard a pop and he suddenly wouldn't put weight on his leg anymore. The next day we brought him in and she took X-rays. The pin had gone through the bone and was resting on his nerve and one side of the pelvis had "come loose" and was out of place. I asked why the screw and pin came out so easily and didn't get any answers. My dog was not walking pretty much at all. He was still going to the bathroom lying down. There was no way anything he did would cause it to come out so easily. Tara wanted to do a second surgery on my dog. After speaking with my dog's normal vet, we were told that she is the best there is and that's why we were referred to her. We agreed to go through the second surgery. She pulled the pin out and put two screws in the one side of the pelvis (SI joint). So again, we were hopeful that he was on track for healing. About another 3 weeks later, not a lot of progress was made on teaching our dog how to walk again. He was still getting around with a lot of assistance on our part. He would toe touch though. Then one day he wouldn't put any weight at all on the affected leg. Of course, we brought him back into Tara and again X-rays were taken. The screws that were holding the plate on his femur on the top portion broke and again were she had put in the 2 screws on the pelvis "came loose". And what do you know, instead of coming up with other options, Tara wanted to do surgery again, but leave the pelvis alone and just put a bigger plate on his femur. The one she showed us was just one she had in stock that was bigger, but had 3 holes on the top and bottom and nothing in the middle. I knew once seeing it that it wouldn't work. I took my dog home and decided to do my own research. I wish I would have done my research before my dog went through all of this. I found Arizona Specialty Group in North Scottsdale. (Yes, further drive, but completely worth it.) We found out that one screw in the SI joint is not sufficient to hold it into place and that on the plate there were a lot more screws on the bottom than there were the top, so obviously that isn't going to hold. He did one surgery on my dog and used a interlocking nail (what they use on humans). He couldn't fix the SI joint because even though it was completely out of place, the bones were healing together. It's been 2.5 months since his last surgery and is doing awesome! Completely back to normal. He walked 3 miles the other day. So, my recommendation to you, is to research before you make these decisions. Like I said, I wish I did. read more

We went to Dr. Church in cardiology at the Scottsdale clinic. He was great. I am a nurse, and he asked all the right questions, took a LONG time to explain things, let me sit in on the Echo and EKG so I could see what was going on with my dog. He explained all possible causes, some beyond just cardiology for reasons for her symptoms. Reading all the bad reviews seems to me like these people are just angry at the cost of specialty care for an animal. Well, that a risk you take when you are a pet owner. I was referred here from family vet care after my 9+ year old German Shepherd fell ill and had blood work come back suggesting liver failure. After reading some of the other reviews I almost cancelled my appointment - but I'm glad I didn't. We were seen by Dr. Melissa Riensche who was caring and knowledgable. I honestly couldn't have asked for me. The prices seemed fair and we were not "pressured" into anything. I have not worked with the emergency department - so I can only say that I am happy with their internal medicine department and would not hesitate to use their services again. read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! Our Yorkshire Terrior, Taz, was attacked by a German Sheperd on March of 2011. In a frantic search for help, we took Taz to the emergency clinic next to AVS. The emergency vet took great care of him and he survived the brutal attack. We found out from the emergency vet that Taz had multiple broken bones on his left leg along with cut and brusies. Not knowing better and thinking that we need to set the broken bones in place, we went next door to AVS and met Dr Enwiller. She gave us two treatment options. First was to use the steel plates to set the bones. Second was amputation of the leg. Of course we went for the first option. (Knowing what we know now, we should gone with another treatment option - external fixation) Taz came out of the sugery with a big bandage. This was the high light of our experience with AVS. When we went back for post op visit, Taz had infection and swelling above the incision of surgery site. This was the start of the complications after surgery. Taz had the second surgery to resolve complications from the first surgery. This surgery revealed that the steel plates were so big that the bones had no chance to heal. This misjudgement on Dr Enwiller led to more complcations for Taz. Taz had to go through yet another surgery but from a different surgeon and is doing well but we keep on thinking about what could have been for our boy Taz...Pkease avoid AVS and Dr E. read more

Dr Bailey and her staff are nice, but man are they rude when you decline services!! My dog was diagnosed with Addison's disease last march. I met dr bailey who mentioned monthly injections and blood work. After months of treatments and spending 130 each visit, I had my regular vet check her. Dr Cromer asked why I was still having her electrolytes checked and said you only need to do that for a few months and if stable you can stop. So next time I went in I declined the blood work the tech was rude and said I was making a bad choice. Then didn't return my phone calls after that.y doc saved me over 60 bucks that visit and my dog is doing great. Glad I'm moving!! read more

Our 8 month old German Shepherd needed surgery and it was scary! But we had a wonderful experience with everyone from the front desk, to the technicians, to Dr Enwiller, to the Office Manager!! Dr Enwiller was very informative and so gentle! They take care credit which helped with the costs. Our big guy is home and only days after surgery is doing wonderful! Im so thankful we went to AVS and would recommend them to anyone in need of a veterinary specialist!!! Hopefully we wont need to have anymore surgeries but if we do they are the only place we will go! read more

Not impressed. I showed up on a Saturday night in tears and could barely get out the words that my puppy had broken his leg. I didn't get a compassionate feeling from them but they had no problem collecting $450 from me for the care they gave him (placed a soft cast on him, Xrays and medications). I wouldn't ever go back here again. Shame on me for not researching other Emergency animal care offices that might have been a better choice. I sure will now. I don't recommend this place! read more

My puppy broke her leg and the care and compassion from staff and Dr. Enwiller was above and beyond anything I could have anticipated. I went her to see a feline optical specialist. My kitty Simba, caught herpes when he was a kitten and it left him with a permanent symblepharon in his left eye. His cornea is cloudy, Iris is almost complexly obscured and his tear ducts are functional. He also has other ocular deformities. There are small specks on his right lens and his pupil is deformed as well. Everyday he will lie on his back and start kicking with both legs as he holds on to the arm of a computer chair. Its as if he wants to rip his eye out. I imagine at this moment he is experiencing intense pain. HE is able tp se hairs in a sun beam through a window and is able to rack small details. He does not have much vision in his left eye and as you can imagine his depth perception is off. I had is cornea stained a few times in the left eye, there was no scarring. I also told her a knew there was a surgery but the results were disappointing and the adhesion often reappeared on the symblepharon. I told all this to the female veterinarian specialist thinking she would tell me somethin I didn't know. The assistant first came in and touched the cat without washing her hands, and no gloves. The exam table had dog hair and dried saliva on it. I mentioned it to the assistant and she donned gloves and wiped the room down, but should have been done before we ever entered. Next, the did another corneal stain (negative) and then nothing else. Offered no solutions, didn't mention the surgery until I did, no anti-viral medicines, no topical anesthetics, nothing. Please just pay us $195.00. Never addressed the other eye, I guess that's another $195 and the doctor literally didn't tell me anything I didn't know. I found all that information from the internet, by using google and reading a couple of feline ocular textbook sections, all of it was free from Google. When you go to a service industry, use a credit card. If they don't deliver, refuse to pay. If it is a legitimate concern, like what happened to me here, I could have disputed it and not have had to pay. read more

Arrived a the Emergency center at 7:30 pm. My Pet, with a swollen foot & leg did not get seen until 12:30 am. After 2 ex-rays, 7 & and half hours and $550 later, the vet sent us on our way with "don't know whats wrong.... go see your regular vet in the morning"!!! Then she goes on to say she could've just given my dog pain killers to tide him over until morning until i went to my regular vet! Complained the next day to be told there must of been a mis- communication between myself and the vet and they would not refund any of the $550 that i paid for procedures that were not needed..... Truly one of the worst emergency pet centers out there! DO NOT GO TO THIS BUSINESS. CHARGES FOR UN-NEEDED PROCEDURES! RUDE, UNFRIENDLY & HEAVY HANDED WITH YOU FAMILY PET. read more

The oncology office with Dr. Beaver and Dr. Arthur and their ENTIRE group of animal lovers have helped us more than I can say. They are taking care of our beloved Owen with such love and respect and caring. It is a difficult time and they are constantly easing the burden by their help and amazing availability. In addition, I have never seen another office where my lovely boy actually runs inside to see everyone. I would like to say that if you have any choice, go to this office - you will be so glad you did. Additionally, when I checked with a friend at Ohio State who is currently obtaining a Ph.D. in animal oncology, she confirmed that all their recommendations were excellent and cutting edge. Hummm, I noticed all the Bad past reviews and no recent reviews, well here goes. Our Airedale Terrier became ill in December. We had the Banfield Adult Dog pet insurance. He was tested at Banfield and test came back that he had lymphoma. The Banfied Dr. referred us to the AVS Oncology. We were able to get an appointment with Dr. Beaver at the Gilbert location. I have to say we got better treatment there than most human doctor's offices. We were treated very respectfully. Dr. Beaver sat with us, explained the cancer to us, gave us our options, explained them in detail to us and all cost up front, all the while not being pushed into a decision. We chose partial treatment for a short period of time. 3 months later the lymphoma took over our dog and I called to make arrangements for him to be put down, again very respectful. We brought our dog in and Dr. Beaver spoke with us and all was very sad but good. read more

My experience with Arizona Veterinary Specialists, particularly Dr. Church, his entire staff, and the Emergency Hospital has been nothing less that PHENOMENAL! Our little Maltese was literally on her death bed, another valley hospital couldn't do anything else to help her so they placed a call to Dr. Church to see if he could help. He thought he could so she was discharged from that facility and Dr. Church met us at the AZ Veterinary Specialists Hospital at midnight that Saturday night. To make a long story short, Stormy's case was complex and required a tremendous coordination between Dr. Church, Stormy's regular vet, and ultimately her home-care and routine. Dr Church and his entire staff were engaged, interested, and proactive with us beyond the call of duty. As a result, Stormy survived, against all odd, and we enjoy life with her today. I highly, highly recommend AZ Veterinary Specialists!! read more

AVS is where you take your dog when your regular vet may be left scratching their head or lacking the equipment or expertise necessary. After a week with another hospital, I was able to get my 11 week old Papillon squeezed in early on a monday morning. By the end of the day we had the problem pegged as a severe stricture in her esophagus. Dr. Bailey called me to let me know my options. A) Feeding tube for life B) A series of balloon procedures C)euthanasia. The next day I spent hours at the clinic going over all the options and potential outcomes of each choice. Dr. Bailey was very upfront in telling me there was at best a 50-50 shot of the procedures working, and even then the potential problems and complications from steroids and everything else were likely to be a drain on me and the dog. I was given access to a room with my little one and given all the time I needed to make my decision. Dr. Bailey was wonderful. caring, and supported my decision to permanently take away her suffering. The entire staff was friendly and offered their support. Ike's overnight stay was made easier by knowing there was a tech with her and I could call and check anytime I felt the need. The price was a little steep, but this is a place for specialized animal medicine. I hope I never have to return, but I have full confidence in Dr. Bailey and the rest should we ever need them again. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! How we received a $1,000 Bill. My husband and I were in Mexico. My dog started bleeding from his mouth profusely while in the care of my sister. She took him to the Gilbert Clinic and spent 4 hours waiting with no answers as to why he was bleeding and no resolve to the situation. They had the dog stay the night and sent her home with my dog the next day only to only return within the hour because the bleeding started up again. I made a point to the doctor directly the night before and said "do not release the dog if he has any chance of bleeding again - I just want it fixed." Unbelievably, they charged me again to have him admitted a second time?! After all the fuss over 2 days - we arrived home to a dog with no diagnosis, no resolve to the bleeding mouth and a $1,000 bill. Because I was in Mexico, I had to pull out Care Credit for the fees and prior to the bill, they asked my sister repeatedly, how much was your sister approved for? Really. FYI - I took him to his regular vet to have a diagnosis, surgery, X-rays, shot updates and more - it cost me less than one overnight visit at this place. I cannot reiterate how disappointed I am in the "care" at Arizona Veterinary Specialists in Gilbert. You're better off treating your pet yourself. Stay AWAY from here! read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Dixon, who completed two separate TPLO surgeries on my rat terrier. However, this place is outright money hungry. Firstly, their fees are generally higher than other places. This is acceptable to me due to the great job the Dr. did on my dog. The problem is that they charge for every little thing. They wanted to charge me to bring the dog back after he developed and irritating bump where his IV was from his surgery. It took a very heated conversation with them to get them to agree to have him brought back to have it looked at. read more

I was referred here when my beloved pup was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her upper left leg. The entire staff, from Dr Arthur to the vet techs to the front desk workers, was the most knowledgeable, professional, caring and compassionate that I have ever encountered. Azzie had a round of palliative radiation, which let her live comfortably for several months beyond her diagnosis, and when the time came to say goodbye, they helped her slip away with grace and dignity, and they were beyond supportive to me. I highly recommend them - they are the best at what they do. read more
