Fun!!!!! Experience of a lifetime. I got my friend a glider aerobatic ride for his birthday. For almost 300$ he got about a 15 minute ride on a glider plane that did aerobatic tricks, a go pro video of the ride, and a T-shirt. The staff was super friendly, informative, and fun. The pilot had been flying for 10 years, and was only 23 Y/O ... you do the math. That made it even a bit cooler! I had called a few times prior buying the gift certificate, which can be emailed or mailed as a gift. They were always attentive, not pushy, and friendly. They offer flight courses here. Check out the website for exact prices and the best option for your budget and needs!

I can't say enough good things about Arizona Soaring. I took lessons to get my Glider Pilot License in 2018 and came back in January to get back in the air while the weather was too cold in northern Illinois. I'm so glad I came back. My instructor Dak helped me "knock the rest off" my technique and we had a great time together. If you've wanted to know what it feels to soar like bird you've got to go for a ride in one of their gliders. It's amazingly quiet and the tide is extremely smooth in the morning and most days when the weather is cool. Safety is the highest priority for pilots and all passengers. The instructors and commercial pilots are professional, friendly, and extremely competent. The gliders are well maintained and comfortable. If you're a power pilot looking to get a glider add-on you won't find a better commercial operator to get the endorsement for you and if you want to pursue becoming a glider pilot without prior flying experience, this is the place to go.

Got to experience a super cool glider flight about a year ago that I last-minute booked the day of. The instructor I had was so accommodating and I learned a lot!

This is from the minutes at the former home of NW Sky sports. I can attest to the fact that Boggs…read moreflaunts safety rules constantly. In my opinion as a pilot. Boggs is an accident waiting to happen. Port staff requested that the committee discuss a proposed concession agreement for Northwest Sky Sports, although the final decision rests with the Port's executive director. In the past, Northwest Sky Sports operated its glider rides, scenic flights and instruction from Hangar 1, now under lease by Insitu. To operate a commercial activity on Port property, a business must have a concession agreement with the Port. Since there are no other concession agreements at Ken Jernstedt Airfield, Port staff felt it was appropriate to consult with the Airport Advisory Committee. Safety was the primary concern. Michael McElwee noted the Port had received some complaints regarding pilot Gary Boggs, especially during the September 2007 Fly-In. Young noted he has access to video documenting low flyovers that were beneath the Federal Aviation Administration's regulations. Yannotti expressed concern about possible repeated safety issues regarding Boggs and objected to the concession permit. Harris noted that he has witnessed the glider approaching the airport that were flying too fast and too steep, noting it was some of the most dangerous flying he had ever seen. Boggs countered that he was not flying at low altitudes and felt he was flying safely. All sides of the issue were allowed to offer input, which McElwee will assess as he considers a concession agreement for Northwest Sky Sports. McElwee plans to make a decision prior to Blossom Festival Weekend (April 19-20), when Boggs has some scenic flights scheduled.

Located just south of Carefree & 99th is an adventure waiting to happen…read more Had a fantastic time with out pilot Gary. First off before you even get off the ground Gary has some really creative photography skills and includes photos of video of your flight on his Facebook page. The take off and flight was a breeze, which is good because breeze is the only thing keeping you up there. You are towed up in the air until you reach about 1500ft then a quick swoop down to ease the tension off the rope and you are free as a bird. We took the offer to extend our flight another 10 minutes and to about 2500ft and that was really worth it. You get to see just about the entire Lake Pleasant, Anthem, Desert Hills & Ben Avery from the air. A few times around The marina where Dillions is located and more lake. Gary welcomes you to talk about gliding, the instruments and just about anything you want, he is a great wealth of knowledge and an expert pilot. Want to loop in a glider, sure he can do that!!! Flyby just like I. Top gun! That too! I would say the loop and flyby was well worth the adventure on their own. Take your GoPro (no stick) but plenty of room to use a helmet/head mount or just hold it. If you are small enough the back seat fits too, it's a squeeze though. All in all this makes a great adventure and a really cool gift!

If only I could give this place zero stars for the amount of suffering I have had to get this license. I had high hopes of this place because it is part 141 and they told me they get DPEs the fastest in the valley to schedule checkrides which who knows is true and doesn't even matter when they had no interest in progressing me through my license and was just interested in taking my money. Brandon was my first CFI who I thought was a great instructor until the true colors started to show after two months. We were having regular classes until suddenly after New Year's he drastically slowed down my training in favor of taking new students. This really angered me as I wanted to train full time. Next problem I saw was he wasn't preparing me at all for the stage checks. There was so much discrepancy what the examiner wanted and what my CFI was teaching me, and they made it worse by blaming it on me while I was literally being set up for failure. Retraining for the stage checks really added to the total cost, especially when one of them was a cross country for no reason, and this happened multiple times that I had to switch my CFI to Daniel before I lost all sanity. This switch cost more than usual because I had to get reindorsed during the cross-country stage. But I still couldn't pass the second stage check because the examiners, even the whole school is against me and just want my money. There was even a time when I had to sit for about EIGHT WEEKS of no progress whatsoever. This was the school's idea of punishing me because I got a pilot deviation during my solo cross country instead of taking some of the blame and realizing their curriculum is setting us up for failure. I got the deviation because they don't think it is important for students to learn how to use a GPS to cross-check when the dead reckoning calculations were wrong. What made it worse is my CFI looked at my wrong calculations and endorsed it, making me have no reason to think it could be wrong later. This really made me depressed especially when all my friends and family are not in Arizona and I didn't have a good way to pass the time as I planned on training full time. I had such an unpleasant experience in the stage checks themselves. Chris did most of my exams and he is just an unfriendly person to be around. Forget about failing the actual stage check because he will insult you and make you worthless in the debriefing. I bet the military doesn't disrespect you this much. I just wanted a simple discussion with him, but he thought I was arguing and didn't even want to talk to me because he had some 15,000 hours of experience while I was worthless not having any license. I requested Nick to do my stage check as if that was going to be different. I did everything what was required at the time almost perfectly, but he just made up a reason to not pass me. At this point I was done with the school because I saw they had no intention of letting me finish my license and just wanted to take my money quietly. I had to finish my training at another school and waste even more money showing my new CFI what I knew. I learned more in one month there compared to seven months at AFTC. I also learned half the things AFTC taught me were just completely wrong, so I had to waste more money unlearning those habits. My checkride examiner almost failed me because I was referencing Jeppesen during the oral portion which is apparently not FAA-certified. How AFTC became part 141, let alone a flight school, with all these bad practices is anyone's guess. All the five-star reviews are from bribery. If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far away from this school. It is anything but family.

The helicopter arrived shortly after 9 AM for its dropping off & picking up & we were on our flight shortly after 10 AM. We met the team early on a Saturday morning, and I couldn't believe that we were going in a small basket. I almost jumped in the van with the 15+ group, but instead it was basically a private ride - just Kevin, his niece, his wife, and the two of us. (The other two were helpful when we landed, not to mention photos. Kevin's wife is an expert at getting the best photos. She took the rising sun shot of me that is no doubt the best photo ever taken involving me!) Kevin is a seasoned pro, and the trip showed. We went up high, where we could see the mountains by Flagstaff, the mountains by Tucson, and everything that lay in between. But then, being a smaller, more maneuverable balloon, we were able to skim along the desert hills. We soared just over the tips of the saguaro cacti, and Kevin told us all about the desert flora and fauna. We saw several jackrabbits and even a coyote. This is not the experience you get in the larger balloons, and it's absolutely magical! We eventually landed in the middle of a housing community, which brought a crowd of interested onlookers, but the chase team showed up quickly to load up the balloon while we heard the tale of the first balloonists and then drank a champagne toast to the rising sun while we listened to the Balloonist's Prayer. It was truly a special event, and it did not disappoint in any way. It is hard to live up to something you've always dreamed of doing, but somehow Kevin and his team made it all that and then some.

The school has its own way of doing things. Please be patient with them, they are students. For example they will not seat incomplete parties. You can be less patient with established restaurants that do the same things. The service is fine the students personable. Despite our group ordering almost one of everything, the execution was timely. No one complained that any of it was bad. We were served, without choice a seared Tuna appetizer. Some in our party did not care for anything close to raw, and were unhappy. Soup followed, of which the Gazpacho, (a cold soup) was excellent. They served a Pasta dish of bucatini: with heavy cream and panchetta. It was done to perfection, with the pasta being almost aldente and the pancetta lightly browned on one side. Other selections were chicken, short ribs and salmon. Prices varied but not very much. Expect to pay $30 plus tip and drink. Some items were a little less. The meal included a dessert of German Chocolate cake, which was thick and dark, permeated by coconut and abounded with a thick frosting. Coffee is served on request. What's served is what I call "ingredients food": it's flavor come from the ingredients themselves. Little technique is required. although technique was required for the Gazpacho. Salmon or Short ribs need steady cooking, and they had no adornments. You must know how to cook them. The how is simple, because baking is the one method. This is a really good place to go.
