Setting up the training Falcon before a few solo flights.

Sonora Wings came recommended to me when I was looking for hang gliding training. It was bad flying weather in California, so I set up lessons here. Drove down and from the moment I arrived, was met with a friendly and professional crew that helped me safely learn the sport. Highly recommended, whether you're looking to learn to hang glide or just want to take a tandem discovery flight. The great people running Sonora really made me feel comfortable and welcome for the week I was there and I will definitely plan a return trip!

So much fun!! A must try!!! Get this off your bucket list as soon as you can!! We chose the 2K' ride, but we should have gone higher! Being towed up by the unique tow plane aircraft was just as fun as gliding down! The ride was smooth and peaceful with incredible sights! Be sure to try the Rock and Roll moves--some steep, rolling dives--so much fun!! The hang glide pilot, Paul, puts you at immediate ease with his calm, knowledgeable personality. A well ran, small town business with very friendly owners. We hope to visit the owners in Wisconsin during the summer months for another ride!

Fly Like an Eagle...Come Fly with Me, Come Fly with me...I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings. Coming down is the hardest thing... It was really as close to flying like a bird as you can get, and I have to say it was quite serene and relaxing..almost tranquil. You know when you see a dog hanging his head out the window of a moving vehicle, with his ears flapping in the wind and it looks as if it is at complete bliss...yeah that was me. In a nut shell this is how it all goes: You sign away your life. You get to gear up in a cool helmet and slide into your 'flying cocoon'. Then a unique one-man plane tows you into the air (this part is a bit noisy). Once you are REALLY HIGH in the sky you release and the plane flies away and lands. That initial release is so cool, you feel like you are floating in the skies. Then the flying starts...seriously soaring for about 15-20min. There is little noise except the ruffle of the wind on your glider. The instructor shows you how to be a copilot, which was cool to learn how to steer. Did you know you can go "Look ma, No hands" on a hang-glider? Oh yes you can, and we did. Adventurous Lisa E. was like, 'hey I will let you steer and flip us around all crazy instead of letting this armature fiddle around like a bird on the short bus.' That is when the acrobatics began. Oh yeah I was gliding, diving, twirling, free-falling, recovering and spinning all over the sky with desert down below and the mountains in the distance. AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaamazeballs! For the record if you are scared of such things, you don't have to do that part. Then came the landing, the part I was most concerned about. It was a breeze! Honestly smoother than landing in a commercial airplane. The instructor definitely knows his stuff and has been hang-gliding for a long time or maybe he is just a smooth criminal. :) No really in all seriousness, the team at Sonora Wings knows their stuff and you are in good hands. If you have ever wanted to fly like a bird, soar like an eagle then you need to try hang-gliding! This is also a great gift for the adventurous type! I received my 'hang-gliding lesson' for my birthday from my dear friend Nydia and I have to say it is something I will never forget!

I am a true adrenaline junkie and this was another item on my bucket list. Turns out that this is a really peaceful but exhilarating experience. I would recommend hang gliding and especially the people at Sonora Wings to everyone. What a great experience.

Best birthday experience of my life. I wanted to try something new on my birthday and this was amazing. They were so nice and patient and explained everything to me. They even took a video of the flight so I could remember it always. It was awesome feeling weightless as well. I will definitely go back.

    Fantastic flight!

This experience was awesome! It was very exciting, but I always felt safe. Feeling the wind on your face and flying through the sky with the amazing view was wonderful. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and fun, and it was exciting to try a couple turns on my own. It was really interesting too to find a thermal, and feel the warmth of the air lift us higher. It's great to soar with no engine noise, just the wind whipping past your ears. I will go again!

Amazing experience! These guys are the best!

In September 2025, I transferred to Alpha Kilo Aviation, and within just two weeks I successfully earned my PPL thanks to Dale's professionalism, structure, and excellent preparation. In November, I completed my Instrument Rating with Chris in only 14 days. His instruction was organized, thorough, and focused on real-world flying, which made a huge difference in my confidence and skill level. On December 12, I earned my Commercial License with both Chris and Dale. Their teamwork, consistency, and commitment to student success truly set this school apart. The best way to describe Alpha Kilo Aviation is professional, efficient, and student-focused. The aircraft are well maintained and reliable, the instructors genuinely care about your progress, and the training environment is motivating and supportive. I highly recommend Alpha Kilo Aviation to anyone serious about flight training and advancing their aviation career.

She spent over 6 months at Sierra Charlie Aviation and because of their incompetence, lack of awareness and poor scheduling, I pulled my daughter out of their program and sent her to Scottsdale Executive Flight Training. She was paired up with her instructor Maddie Moles, whom I cant say enough good things about. Under Maddie's supervision and instruction, my daughter, Calie has far exceeded and excelled at this flight school. They keep you informed, aware of progress and have a plan in place to keep their students moving forward at all times. Not only was Maddie instrumental in Calie's progress, the Chief pilot and head of Cessna training, Nick Lane, went above and beyond to make sure Calie was ready to pass her check ride without issues. Calie is looking forward to continuing training here at Scottsdale Executive!

He engaged in small talk and did not let my wife bore me during the flight by answering all the queries. Taking away one star since I had to followup multiple times for the downgrade difference refund.

Let me preface this review by stating the fact that the week I was scheduled to be at Double Eagle,…read morethe weather was not perfect. But, it was for a CPL rating and the weather was very flyable. Based on schedule, and the 3 other reviews, I decided to go to Double Eagle for my CPL rating. I was told that the class consists of a dedicated instructor with 2 hrs in the airplane and 6 hrs ground school every day, with the practical test on the 6th day. I had a few conversations with them, scheduled the date, paid the (non-refundable) deposit, and was told the CFI would contact me with the details of preparation, what to bring, etc. The week before the class I still hadn't heard from the instructor. When I called them, they told me that the instructor assigned to me had quit the day before without any notice and they would assign me a new instructor. I was told that the new instructor was an F16 pilot/instructor. This last part seems really odd since during my discussions with the CFI, he had recently did his CPL (in a C152) and was currently taking a class in College Algebra. I have been a pilot since the 1990's and have owned multiple airplanes, complex & high-performance, that I have flown all over the U.S. The CFI was treating me like a new Private Pilot candidate that he was afraid was going to run us into the ground. In the "ground school" portion, he spent more time talking about flying a traffic pattern than anything else. Opposed to the "dedicated instructor" I was supposed to receive, I was also being cycled into the CFI's schedule with a local PPL student. Instead of starting on Monday, as the schedule stated, the CFI wanted me to be there 9 am Sunday morning to start. That, of course, messed up my whole schedule since I was traveling to Tucson for the training. As for the time allocated to me, instead of the 2/6 (air/ground) per day I received 2.2/2.8 on the first day, 1.4 (all in the pattern)/4.1 on the second day, and 0/2.6 on the third day. On Wednesday morning, with the weather at KTUS stating ceilings of 5500-6000 ft and the practice area clear (picture from when I was driving home is attached), he said the weather was too bad to get the flying time in to be ready for the checkride and wanted to reschedule. I did finish up the CPL elsewhere, not at a "bootcamp" school, with a very smooth practical test. Considering the cost and time, this was the most expensive flight instruction that I have every had and I left with them not even offering me a break on the rescheduled dates, or the option to pick-up where we left off.

A morning of high flying action!…read more Where to begin?! So travelled down to Maricopa on a Groupon. Not really sure what to expect as you pull up to a small hanger near the local airfield. Started small talk with the other people waiting until our instructor Mo showed up. First thing out of his van was beautiful happy golden retriever named Rosa. She just helped set the mood for the rest of the morning. Mo was very friendly and informative. He was very quick with getting all the paperwork out of the way so we could get straight to the action. So easy to sign your life away on a waiver, right?! Continued out to the airstrip to watch Mo get all the equipment set as we sat around with intros and watching Rosa's energy. Quick set of safety instructions and the first person strapped in and was off the ground in minutes. Not that a dog should be the highlight of the flying experience, but Rosa was so excited to watch help set up and chase you down the airstrip. I would say she made the entire experience 30% better. Everyone walked away extremely elated with the experience. Mo was very professional and just a fun overall person to be around. We ended up tipping to basically make up the difference of the discounted Groupon. Well worth the full price of the ride.
