Lamb shank and salad buried in sauce
    Ross H.

Had a very disappointing dinner there tonight with my wife. Reviews on here were very good but not true. Dinning in you get styrofoam to eat off of not plates and you get plastic utensils. Server barely spoke English There was hardly any meat on my lamb shank but you couldn't tell as sauce was slopped over everything even the salad. My wife did get a decent amount of meat. The humus tasted nice as did the abundant supply of rice. Took about ten minutes of conversation with the server before they were able to inform us they had none of the three deserts advertised. Will probably not be back as will save my middle eastern eating for when I'm in Toronto I've been eating middle eastern food for over 45 years now and this was the worst presentation I have ever had.

Solid meal! I just wish the portions were slightly bigger. I forgot my favorite spot in Peterborough is closed Sundays and Mondays so I needed to find an alternative. Yelp recommended this shawarma spot across the street. Decent rating and I didn't have to find new parking. This place is no frills. Limited seating. Seems very popular with the local university's students.i ordered the chicken shawarma over salad. There was some confusion because they don't offer this. I then asked for the chicken shawarma plate, no rice, extra salad. I wish they filled the plate with more salad and delicious toppings. I felt like they just deleted my rice and I had empty space left. The chicken was very juicy and seasoned perfectly. All their toppings were very fresh. The garlic sauce wasn't thick and pasty like traditional it was more like ranch sauce but garlic. It tasted good but not what I'm used to. Overall my food was super tasty, i would like to try a few more dishes to see if they can earn that last star.

    Chicken Shawarma and Koobideh kebab

Small cosy family run restaurant. The owner was really nice and friendly. Food was excellent. We had the Chicken Shawarma, Spinach curry, Koobideh kebab, eggplant stew and chicken biryani. Everything was delicious! Chicken shawarma was specially soft, juicy and flavorful; prolly one of the best I've had in North America!

Excellent shawarma. Chicken is flavorful and the rice was perfect. Very reasonable prices. Definitely recommend.

VERY INCONSISTENT food. Some times it's pretty good, sometimes absolutely horrible. They are starting to lessen their portions as well.

Overall, the pie has good flavours (the parmesan adds such a nice salty finish) and the toppings are well spread out allowing each bite to incorporate all the ingredients. While Pizza One has tons of developed recipes, my husband always goes with his custom pizza ($18.50 for a medium): pepperoni, mushroom, onions, and extra cheese. His wasn't as impressive as the chicken bruschetta, the pepperoni were larger slices, which meant they needed to be toasted longer as the soggy centre ends up tasting like bologna. With the extra cheese, Pizza One should consider applying less marinara to ensure the crust doesn't become doughy and soft. They are not a thin crust pizza, but their crust is still slimmer than what's typically found at the chains. The chicken bruschetta's crust was nice and airy, and the bottom lightly toasted until it almost had a Pizza Hut crunch and flavour but without the greasiness and heaviness. I've never had it myself, but my husband claims it's like New Orleans's pizza crust.

Luckily Patrick had not turned off the oven yet and was kind enough to make us a small Donair pizza before wrapping up. They're super friendly and definitely made us feel super welcome as it's our first time in town. We took it back to the hotel so we don't stop them from going home for the day. The pizza itself was absolutely amazing. Perfect balance of toppings, cheese and crust. It's so perfect that even after 4 slices, I don't feel bloated. I really liked the sauce and the wonderful ingredients that make it such a great combination. Definitely need to come in - am sure it's one of the best in town.

We tried the following Dishes: Bombay Chicken, Hot Sour Soup, Zen Special Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken on Top, Manchurian Fish, Hot Garlic Shrimp, Papaya Salad, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Steamed Chicken Momo, Crispy Ginger Beef I normally wouldn't choose to order soup, as I like to fill up on the heartier dishes but I was absolutely blown away by their Hot and Sour Soup. It's not overly sour and to me it was the perfect flavor profile. It was thick and loaded with tofu and chicken. The Bombay Chicken and Zen Special Chicken were both flavorful and unique chicken dishes. The crispy ginger beef was cooked to perfection; i'd definitely order it again. If you're looking for something tasty to drink their mango Lassi is superb. It's sweet and creamy. I loved it! The Thai Milk Tea was also a knock out. It was sooo good!!!

They also have a very nice dining room if you want to eat in. You may notice that The Big Zen seems very, very similar to The Zen, also in Whitby. The owners say there is no affiliation between the two, but it is obvious it is the same place, with the exact same menu and great quality food, just different owners. Highly recommended.

Definitely bring your friends, and order a family or sampler platter - I can't obviously vouch for absolutely everything on the menu, but the stuff I tried was all delicious, perfectly seasoned, and was a massive portion. I can't imagine a better first impression. Service is definitely "meh" (had to ask multiple times for water and sharing plates), but the food is undeniably delicious. We got the sampler platter 3 (serves 3 easily, four as a stretch), and a brisket sandwich to share amongst myself, missus, my brother and mother. The sampler platter came with two sides, so we picked Mac and cheese, and the mashed potatoes. The sides were both delicious, but the main stars of the show (brisket, Korean short ribs and pork ribs) were the star attraction - the reason why folks would come from far and wide to visit this restaurant. The ambiance is very minimal - almost grungy. The one single-stall bathroom can feel like it's overheating because of a lack of a/c or ventilation in the overall restaurant. Normally in the main restaurant this would be concerning too, but given the openness to the back grill and a large fan, you don't end up getting too much of the residual heat inside - or the "BBQ smell" that you'd normally associate with BBQ places. Anyway it's along old Kingston road. There's a small parking lot that serves the whole plaza that northern smokes is located in - the lot can get quite busy if all of the businesses are open, but we arrived when there were only a handful of businesses still open on a Friday evening.
