The sign outside says lunch specials for $4.99, so after you're seated and look over the menu you realize the lunch specials are $6.99. The waiter/owner/cook that say you could have mentioned that. And it's the obnoxious carrot and potato curry that's $6.99. So I ordered the $9.99 beef curry 'lunch special' and the $9.99 tandoori chicken 'lunch special' with $2.99 naan. The place was dark and dusty and smelled of incense - trying to cover a more noxious smell. When the meal came out it was a soggy dhal rice that was flattened to fill the plate and four barely one inch chunks of beef and a quarter leg smaller than a pigeon's. I went to the back thinking this must be a mistake as $2.50 a chunk of beef is beyond absurd. I was offered more - for $3 more. It was explained that I was fortunate enough to have the soggy rice and carrot and potato curry that the pieces were added in. I explained that it was a misleading and offensive experience overall and he can keep his curry. My guest had already bit into her tandoori pigeon so I paid for that and got ready to leave. He still wanted me to pay for the untouched naan saying it was fine, and that there was no tip. read more

No it is not in a basement....geez. The restaurant is at street level and quite intimate. We found the staff friendly and the found the food well prepared . The main dishes are large and in indian fashion need to be shared. We ordered two dishes and this could have served 3 to 4 people. Our bill came to $58 so between a party of 3 or 4 we thought this as very reasonable. The restaurant filled up with customers about 1830 hrs so make a reservation or come at 1800 hrs. read more

Ordered delivery and everything was borderline inedible. Looked like it had been sitting around all day. I was scared to eat more than a bite. Rice was awful, generic medium grain, could not believe how bad it was. The butter chicken was some very tough, very old chicken that was covered in a stick of melted butter. Onion baji, was definitely not fresh, and again, scared me to take more than one bite. I phoned the owner to tell him, and he was unapologetic and tried to tell me it was our fault for ordering the wrong thing or not being used to his style of food. Well sir, I was a regular customer at your restaurant for a long time, and after moving to Toronto for several years, and eating a lot indian food there, and moving back here, I can tell you this: you are not fooling anyone. That food has been sitting around for a long time, you are cutting corners and cheaping out on ingredients, and I would never let that quality of food leave the restaurant doors if I wanted to keep customers. The food was good. Service was average. Decor is below average. In a basement. Not a very flexible menu. We ordered three Samosas and they brought 6 (and charged us for 6!) stuff like that was less than great... Good overall though. read more

Great food, Great service, great experience. Their food was excellent would have liked a little more spice, but all in all would recommend to anyone that likes Indian food. The service was great they treated me and my partner like royalty, and even gave us a discount for the next time we visit there. On top of all this the atmosphere of the restaurant is very comforting in some strange way and it doesn't seem too popular, defiantly a hidden gem. read more

What a great little gem of an Indian restaurant. Have lived in the city for 14 years and walked by on a few occasions but now I regret it! Don't walk by if you are on George St- you gotta try this place. Lots of options to choose from and covers all manner of spices- from the mild and oh so tasty mango butter chicken to super spicy dishes from the South of India. Staff is friendly and approachable and have lots of recommendations that will steer you right depending on how hot you want. Portion sizes are plentiful and you can combine dishes on your own plate to mix the flavours up (ie pie a spicy dish with a mild one). Try the Lassi- a yummy yogurt drink not to be missed. Have to make a few more trips to get through the menu. read more

Some of the best Indian food we have had the pleasure of eating ! vegetarian options . Amazing pakoras you can ask for no meat . Although other review mention it was in a basement I think that leave a wrong impression , it is in lower level but u can still c outside and the decor was very nice. as for options I don't understand that either cause the menu has many many options and it is per dish so u can share . Prices are average very reasonable . noticed lunch specials were offered . waiter was nice and offers suggestions. we will be back:) read more

Working in the area I noticed this place tucked downstairs barely visible and decided to check it out. Atmosphere is good and the decor is traditional. Ordered the curry chicken and rice and was surprised when it showed up with soup salad and naan bread all for only $13. Portion was huge and I mean everything I got probably could have fed 2-3 people. Everything was made to order and fresh herbs are used in everything. TRY THE SOUP..... its amazing! Just be sure to tell them how much you like or dont like cilantro. If your ever looking for something fresh and super tasty I recommend you try this place. I'm more than disappointed with my experience at Curry Village. I love Indian food and staying at a nearby hotel that offered a discount to their guests at a list of restaurants. Curry Village was one of them. I must say, I found the manager, or could be the owner, on the shady side. When I ordered a mango lassi for myself, he brought over 2 and quickly walked away. I had a very strange sense about it, so I made sure I told him that we only order one. Our main orders are very popular dishes in every indian restaurant and ones that I order all the time. When they arrived, they were nothing that we expected! I've never had bland indian food before, so this was a first. Also, we ordered one side of rice and 2 naan breads. When the rice came, I asked the server, if this is one portion of rice, not 2, which she confirmed. We were not at all impressed with the meal and did not eat much of it. We asked for the bill and gave the manager the card from the hotel. The bill arrives, with the bill hardly readable with the ink spots missing from the printing. I could tell that he charged for 2 side rice dishes, and when I mentioned it, he said that the dish was a double portion. Also, I had my hunches, but it did not look like he actually gave the discount. My husband had already had his credit card out to pay, but I wasn't feeling good about the place and told him it was better that we use cash instead. The final blow was when he came back with the change, there was another shady vibe going on. He didn't provide the receipt back, rather he had it almost hidden in the other hand. I looked into the bill folder and saw that we were short changed by $10. It was a very strange vibe and I asked him for the bill back, gesturing toward the hand that it was in. Now that I'm home, I can see from their menu prices that we definitely did not get the discount and in fact he charged more for the mango lassie. I also see on the same screen as typing this that there is another review from Andrew S of the restaurant bringing more samosas than was ordered and being charged for all of them. This is one of the worst Indian restaurant that i have been to in Peterborough. The service was horrible and the treatment that was given was also very rude. The foods wasn't authentic to Indian cuisine and was far from it. The food was also over priced. I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone if they are looking to enjoy Indian cuisine. read more
