However, I have been forced to give up this amazing doctor, something that is difficult to find in NYC, for the same reason so many other reviewers have mentioned: his vile and off-putting receptionist, Terry. With her unpleasant disposition, unruly and dismissive banter, over-the-phone rudeness, refusal to answer the phones in lieu of sending EVERY call straight to voicemail during business hours, Terry would be better suited as a guardian of the gates of hell. Just look at the last year's worth of reviews. What was once a glowing 5 star Yelp reputation (and the reason I decided to go with Dr. Engel in the first place) has now been dragged down to a mediocre 3 1/2 star rating, besmirched by the evil darkness that is his front desk: the three-headed-dog Cerberus. I'll miss you, Dr Engel. If you ever decide to kick Terry to the curb I'd be back in a heartbeat.

I spent over a year trying to find another primary care doctor, however I was unable to find anyone that was even close to good as Fagelman is. I now have switched insurance providers JUST to have Dr. Fagelman as my primary care physician. His staff is unbelievably helpful and friendly. Every time I come into the office I am greeted with a big hello and smile. Furthermore, they always remember my name! Delita and the receptionists are caring, sweet, and very kind people. They go the extra step to create a relaxing environment where people feel welcomed. The reason why I am writing this is because Fagelman has always taken and extra step while caring for me and my many (thankful) friends I have referred to him. I once showed up unannounced with no appointment and somehow he managed to fit me in. I could tell he was busy in and out of appointments but somehow made time for me. His bedside manors are incredible-I feel very comfortable to talk to him about any issue or concern I may have. Fagelman approaches healthcare in a very cautious and proactive way. When he is treating me or diagnosing me he considers all aspects of my life, previous health issues, and overall wellness into consideration. He sees the larger picture as well as the smaller one! I mentioned during my appointment that going to the doctor gives me anxiety and that I would really appreciate someone taking the time to review my lab results with me after my physical. After my bloodwork and routine physical, instead of receiving a call to discuss my results, I got a phone call from the front desk telling me I owed $375. My immediate reaction was confusion because my annual physical is fully covered by my insurance. Being unexpectedly told I owed hundreds of dollars after what I believed was a covered preventive visit was incredibly stressful. What made the situation worse was the interaction with the front desk. When I expressed my surprise and frustration, the staff member laughed and said something along the lines of, "Sorry, your picture looked so innocent and now you're pissed." That felt completely unprofessional and dismissive, especially given how anxious I already was. They then offered to "discount" the charge to somewhere in the $200 range. After I questioned the bill and went back and forth with them, they ultimately removed the charge entirely. If the fee could simply be waived after I pushed back, it made the whole situation feel arbitrary and left me wondering whether patients who don't question these bills just end up paying them. It honestly felt like a money grab rather than a transparent billing process. What finally pushed me to write this review is that I still had never received a call to go over my lab work or test results, despite specifically asking for one during my appointment. When I called the office myself, I was simply told they would send me a link to access my results online. Then they added that if I wanted someone to actually explain my results in more depth, I would need to schedule *and pay for* another appointment. That was honestly the most disappointing part of the entire experience. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I wanted a physician to spend a few minutes reviewing the bloodwork from my annual physical, especially after I had shared that medical appointments make me anxious. Instead, I was treated like discussing my own health was an additional service that required another visit. Overall, I left feeling dismissed, frustrated, and genuinely hurt. The moment I opened the door I had a gut feeling something wasn't right. When I walked back to the room I was immediately instructed by the physician assistant to get undressed and put on a gown which was very odd to me. Usually when it's your first appointment establishing primary care you aren't asked to get undressed so I was a bit caught off guard and decided to wait to undressed until after talking with the doctor and going over what we would be doing at todays appointment that required me to get undressed. When Dr. Lyon came in (before introducing herself) she asked me in the rudest voice "why aren't you undressed?" And I said "I had a few questions before getting undressed" and she said "you could have still gotten undressed!" - I was so taken back as to why it was such an issue that I didn't get undressed immediately. She proceeded to ask me questions then abruptly interrupted me and said "you're not wearing a mask, let me get you one", she returned with a mask and I told her I didn't want to wear it (mind you the assistants in the office weren't wearing one, just her) and she told me "I had to wear it" I then responded with telling her I haven't had to wear a mask at a drs office in over a year, she proceeded to tell me to put it on. Given this woman's attitude I knew I couldn't trust her, so I told her we could end the appointment and I will go elsewhere. She immediately followed up with "okay! But you still owe me $50 for the appointment." When I was checking out I overheard the physician assistant say to the doctor "Dr. Lyon you were supposed to be better this year." So clearly this isn't the first time someone has left their appointments 10 minutes in. I'm honestly shocked by the amount of good reviews I see on Google. Her Yelp reviews are far more accurate, in which I'll note another girl had the same horrible experience with Dr. Lyon getting mad at her for not undressing right away. If I could give zero stars I would.

Had a TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Efthimiou. Went to see him at the other location (263 7th…read moreavenue) where the staff were ridiculously inept at making appointments, providing promised paperwork, etc. but the anti-hero of the hour really was the doctor himself. In our first visit, I gave my history to a medical student, apparently, who later, Dr. Efthimiou allowed to give me what is a very difficult injection into my hand. I had to sign a consent to get the injection but I was never told that the doctor wouldn't be administering it. He appeared to be just about ready to do it himself, finding the tendon with the issue, aligning the needle, and at the last second, before I objected, he offered to the stunned medical student to "have a go." Are you kidding me??? So, 5 weeks later (the earliest he felt he needed to see me), I see the doctor again, and he seems surprised that I have no relief from my pain from any of the issues I reported in my initial visit. He says, if you have foot and hand pain, why are you here? You should be seeing a podiatrist and an orthopedist. Really?? YOU ARE A DOCTOR WHO IS SUPPOSED TO HELP PATIENTS ASSESS AND MANAGE THEIR PAIN!! I had already gone to a podiatrist, and the fact that I had pain in 3 separate appendages didn't seem to lift any red flags for this sleepwalking, totally incompetent man. He told me to take advil. Advil. What a jerk. 2 weeks after that, the tendon that the medical student injected ruptured spontaneously and I had to have emergency hand surgery. So guess what? With his negligence, I did eventually need to see an orthopedist and now finally have some relief from that (my feet are unchanged). Terrible, terrible doctor. No interest in treating patients, careless with the application of serious and sensitive injections, no intellectual curiosity, rude, late, and supported by an incredibly poorly managed office. Run. This is not your doctor. Find someone who will actually improve your health.
