Dr. Lipschitz is the best rheumatologist in NYC, I am convinced. Not only is he a genius, but he is the first doctor that I've ever had that doesn't rush and really takes his time with every patient. His medical expertise has helped me get my Lupus under control and I'm indebted to both him and his (super friendly) office staff for life because of this. Lipschitz is the only doctor who (a) always returns my phone calls (b) calls my other doctors and (c) isn't afraid to break the mold and suggest treatment options that are out of the norm. He actually knows what email and iPhones are. Who knew! Doctors live in the 21st century too! I also like that he has a sense of humor. He's completely real and not blind to the fact that Lupus and other illnesses are painful (both physically and emotionally). I love Dr. Lipschitz. Even if I moved to Japan, I'd still find a way to still have this guy as my rheumatologist. read more

I really don't like giving bad reviews but being in the medical field myself, I think it would be a disservice to the community not to share this negative encounter. I'll just state the facts: *The doctor was very curt interviewed me with is back to me the whole time. * He never made I contact. * Did not respond when I spoke to him, Had to ask if he heard me? He just said "umhm." .* He and his Staff disclosed information about another patient in front of me. * Doctor left the door open wide the whole time and his young son came in offering him ice cream. *One of the nurses was over heard by my friend talking behind my back. *I ended up leaving without finishing the appointment because I felt extremely uncomfortable in his presence and the doctor yelled at me accusingly 'that I was wasting HIS time.' read more

When I arrived at Dr. Lipschitz office 15 minutes prior to my appointment, one of his patients complained that he had been waiting 90 minutes. His dysfunctional and frazzled receptionist wanted me to sign a form that allowed Dr. Lipschitz to charge me any denomination for the visit. I refused to sign. Seventy-Five minutes later, Dr. Lipschitz rushed into my examination room, Macbook Pro in hand, never acknowledging my presence and started typing for 30 minutes with his back turned to me. He was finishing up his prior patient's info in my presence, as if this was supposed to make me feel that I was actually being seen. He complained about my insurance. Money seems to be an issue for him. He has signs throughout his office demanding immediate payment. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia without a proper examination. He reluctantly gave me a blood test script to check for other auto-immune diseases after I demanded one. I found him dismissive and uncaring. His office is chaotic. I guess the only good thing I can say is that Dean and Deluca and Williams-Sonoma is around the corner from his office. No need to rush to your appointment with Lipschitz, go shopping first because you'll make the most of the time you will squander waiting for him and his staff. read more

One of the best doctors I've ever been to in my whole life. Immediately after I saw him I texted all my friends and recommended him. He was so thorough, brilliant, kind, and made me feel heard and at ease. So glad I saw him. He has ordered very thorough labs (in line with my request) and I have no doubt that he will get to the root of the issue and take wonderful care of me! Dr.Lipschutz basically saved my life. Five years ago I was so sick with a rare auto-immune disease called Scleroderma, I could hardly get out of bed. I started to see the doctor, he tried out 3 different intravenous medications on me, each one of them worked, but the third medication called ACTEMRA, was able to really help my lungs. My lungs were really in bad shape from Scleroderma. I finally stopped coughing every five minutes. I once hurt my shoulder by sleeping on it the wrong way, he saw me right away that day and gave me a cortisone shot that relieved the pain. Dr. Lipschutz also knows many doctors and he referred me to a fantastic pulmanologist called Dr. Kaner, who is a very kind and a very knowledgable doctor. I have been seeing Dr. Kaner every half a year. I love his staff, they never forget to call you back and when they are not busy they will patiently listen to your list of health concerns. Sometimes the wait could be about an hour, but IT IS WORTH IT, because the Doctor will take his time with you and he will even call other doctors, if he wants you to see them. I am so glad that Dr. Lipschutz is my Doctor and I love his staff Delia and Carol. read more

Dr. Lipschitz is a good Dr. Very through and has a decent follow up history BUT the fact that this is a PRIVATE PRACTICE that I have gone to for about 5 years I can honestly say that I have never NOT had to wait at LEAST 30 mins to be seen. Even though 9x out of 10 I schedule the 1st appointment of the day! It's terrible and un believable. His patients have lives and jobs too and we don't have time to waste. Either get better time management or more staff. I can go to a clinic for free and get this same service or better. Something has got to give or I will need to make a move. read more

Unlike other doctors I have seen, he takes what you say seriously and truly seeks to diagnose you, even if it takes a while. Dr. Lipschitz is amazing. He made sure he would take the full history of the patient, he listened while I was explaining from day 1 regarding with my symptoms and all those, makes time for the patient to extract more..He has very good bedside and in establishing rapport. I really felt comfortable in his clinic not only because Im in the medical field. I even brought along my mom with me and she said the same thing, great rheuma...He's also very knowledgeable about my case. The staff including Carol and all the rest are also awesome. I've never met a doctor like Dr. Lipschitz. From a medical perspective, he is one of the most INTELLIGENT professionals I've ever encountered. I was referred to Dr. Lipschitz to see if I had an autoimmune disease. I've gone to a lot of doctor's in different fields over the years, but rheumatology was a foreign experience to me. From the moment I stepped into his office, I felt as if I was in good hands once I expressed how scared I was that I didn't know what was going on. After the whole process was over, he didn't fail to meet my expectations of him based off my positive first impression. He is thorough in his appointments and asks numerous questions to gather all information he needs to get down to the bottom of patient's problems. He treats all patients individually and really pays attention to symptoms, medical history, etc. I was impressed by his use of technology and an up-to-date doctor experience. He provides a patient portal that patient's can log into, which shows extensive notes he takes during appointments, lab results, medications, etc. I've never had a problem with my appointment being delayed and have to wait. From an interpersonal perspective, Dr. Lipschitz is one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. Not only is he smart, but he cares about his patients and it really shows not only during appointments, but in follow ups as well. He is not a bullshitter, which is very important to me as a patient. He gets to the point to take care of issues and thoroughly explains whats going on. He also has a brilliant sense of humor, making me feel at ease during appointments. Not only was he great, but his staff is great as well. His office on Park Ave was clean and modern. He is a classy guy and it shows by the way he presents himself and his interactions with his patients. He is someone you want on your team to help you. Thank you for everything Dr. Lipschitz. Stay far away unless you want to be mistreated . He was condescending and unhelpful, asking me what I thought my diagnosis should be. He had no interest in treating the problem or finding out what was the cause. He does not check messages left with his service on the weekend (even though they say the doctor will call back shortly), which sent me to the ER. His nurse is downright rude. He will leave you waiting with painful symptoms for two weeks until your next appointment rather than share your test results with you before your next appointment. (I called his nurse and she would not have him call me back or change my appointment to an earlier date to so I could find out the results.) There truly couldn't be a less caring doctor or staff. read more

I saw Dr. Lipschitz about three years ago for what I suspected was arthritis in my hands (I already had pretty bad arthritis in one foot). This was one of the worst medical experiences I've ever had. First of all, he was dirty -- greasy hair, grubby fingernails. Second, his office felt unclean. Third, he sent me for hands and feet x-rays. Why feet? When he had the results, he told me that I had no arthritis in my hands and none in my feet -- just hammer toes. I've never had hammer toes in my life -- those you can see with the naked eye! And I most certainly have arthritis in one foot. I need steroid injunctions for that. So, obviously, he was looking at another patient's x-rays. Fourth, he had no clue what was causing the pain in my hands, and he just didn't care. No suggestions, no follow-up, no nothing. A creep. read more

I recently brought my 88 year old father to Dr. Lipschitz. My father had symptoms for three months which were not previously diagnosed. After a lengthy examination Dr. Lipschitz pulled up a case study to show us of a rather rare disease which seemed to match my father's symptoms in every way. I was amazed at Dr. Lipschitz's knowledge and am very thankful for his caring and dedication. I also greatly appreciated the friendliness, care and punctuality of his office staff. Dr. Lipschitz is one of those rare doctors who looks at the patient as a whole. He literally changed my life. I went to see him for a form of gout, pretty routine. He happened to notice some abnormal blood test results in blood tests other doctors had ordered; other doctors had commented on these results, but not made much of them. Dr. Lipschitz asked me if anyone had ever tested me for 'pernicious anemia'. I answered no. Let's run the test, he suggested. I tested positively, two weeks later I was on Vitamin B-12 and Iron supplements, and my life has changed. My energy levels and sleep patterns are considerably improved; indeed, everything is improved. And I had not even gone to see Dr. Lipschitz for these symptoms. When you add to Dr. Lipschitz's holistic approach to the patient, his encyclopedic knowledge of medicine generally, his easy style and friendly approach, the fact that there is never more than a short wait (if any wait at all) in his office, that his staff is friendly and facilitative (not always the case in NYC doctors' offices), Dr. Lipschitz ranks among the top experiences I have ever had in a New York City physician's office. These days I have to take "bad" review with a grain of salt. I find people have odd or self-righteous views of how the should be treated. Or they are just unrealistic. I will give you as honest and realistic a review as possible. I was and had been in the medical field (for the one who said the same). I think it is tough for a physician to do his job. Very few can be as dynamic as Dr. L. And it can be annoying to the patient when things come up in regards to other patients while you are having your visit, but shit happens. If you were the patient in a pharmacy or a hospital and needed your doctor's signature,etc. to get hospital care or medicine--well, again. shit happens. He sometimes sends for lots of tests, especially, if you are complaining about things. Sometimes, he does not. I don't go to a doctor for the service. I don't care if he is friendly or has bedside manners. Dr. L is nice enough and professional. He is a good doctor. Period. read more

Always late. Waiting in his office and feeling weird because he doesn't speak. Saw the doctor who filled my meds with CVS. CVS called and spoke with his staff because the drug is contradicting the meds I am currently on. CVS said my meds were cancelled. I called his office and the nurse hung up and the front desk won't transfer me to his voice mail. Very unprofessional and stupid staff. Dislike the manners of everyone at this place. Def won't recommend anyone. All they care about is money. Because if you don't pay your bill from your last visit they ask you to come early to pay but still see you late. That is the only thing they do on time take your money. Also, we still couldn't figure out want is wrong. He diagnose me by guessing. They make you do a lot of tests and he still ask me why I am there on my second visit. WTF. His staff are very stupid. All the negative responses that I read is the same experience I went through. Horrible place. It's not worth it because he is not the only doctor. I rather pay with my insurance money to someone that cares. read more

I have been going to Dr. Lipschitz for 10 years. He does spend whatever time is needed for a patient, so running 45+ minutes late is the norm in his office. He has great connections to other highly respected experts in other areas of medicine and that makes him worth the wait. Unfortunately any time a prescription needs refilling, you must make an appointment at a high cost. Most recently he gave me a 5 month prescrption for new medicine for a recurring condition and said I could call to refill through the rest of the year if all went well. When I called 5 months later, I was told by the desk that refills are not done, that I'd have to make an appointment to get another 5 month prescription & that year long prescriptions are not done. This is inconvenient, costly and not time effective. I can't help but feel it is simply a tactic to bring in more cash to the office. read more

I can't help but be grateful to Dr. Lipschitz. I have a particularly aggressive case of Sjogren's syndrome, we're talking disabling fatigue, pain, and neuropathy here, not just the dry-eye, dry-mouth version that you usually hear about. He is the only doctor who really knew how to treat it aggressively and get me the relief I needed. He is knowledgeable, keeps up with research, and isn't afraid to try innovative new treatments. After 2 infusions, I've got to say that he has really made a difference. I've read the other reviews here. They are largely unfair. His office is neither dirty nor chaotic. His staff has been nothing but courteous, polite, and helpful to me. Yes, he does spend a fair amount of time on his laptop with his back to you, but I think this means that he's actually looking up your chart and researching something, not just winging it every time. I can relate to some of the people who are upset about his approach or long waiting times. He's honestly not always the most sensitive or the most patient of people. He's said a few blunt things to me that I have not appreciated. But I've got to shrug some of that off because when I've mentioned things to him about my symptoms, he's always taken it seriously and either had the answers for me, or did some research and found them for me. And, he must be in demand because sometimes you do have to wait a while. But, honestly, that kind of stuff happens with a lot of doctor's, especially specialists who have full schedules. The man is a brilliant doctor and a decent enough guy. I'd actually prefer a slightly harried and gruff guy who knows his stuff to a polite guy who doesn't know what he's doing. So, you want to be comforted? Get a puppy. Want to find a treatment to help you with a complicated medical condition? Go to Dr. Lipschitz! read more

I've had to see him 3x in the past few months for various joint pain. Each time I waited close to an hour or more and even after asking about how much longer at 20-30 mins it wasn't addressed. Each time I just wanted to leave. Finally got in each time and felt like I had 2 mins left to visit with the doctor. But he takes a lot of time to discuss. Today I complained about the wait, he shrugged his shoulders and said something about there's nothing he can do. Ridiculous. Even the nurse complained that the women who sets up appts is nice but clueless how to set them up and aggravates all patients. Then the doctor talks in medical jargon only, barely looked at me each time, just reading the charts and lab results, out loud. Each time I left without any further sense of how to take care of it. Often he referred to my right knee today when it was my left. 2 yrs ago I asked for an MRI on my knee along with other areas and he sent me to lab without any info about my knee so I had to go back another time. I saw this guy a few years ago. I have been meaning to write a yelp review ever since. I chose him as my primary care doctor since I had arthritis. He really loves to send patients for any and every odd test for which he gets paid a referral fee. He argues with his wife on the phone while you're on the examining table. You can be waiting for your appt. in the waiting area and he walks out right in front of you to go do a house call for a patient in a nursing home.When I finally got to see him an hour after my scheduled time, I asked him about leaving when he saw he had a patient waiting for him. His response was that he is the doctor and gets to decide how to best use his time. I was dangerously depressed and my insurance required authorizations for the medication he prescribed. But then he told me that he really didn't want his staff using up what little time they had doing those kinds of things. Only when I pushed him on it and asked him where I was supposed to go for help since he was my primary care doctor and didn't want to do the work required by my plan, did he make sure that I got the medication. I really liked him at first, which is how I think he reels you in. It doesn't take long for the arrogance and narcissism to surface. Beware. read more
