In two years, I've lost 65 pounds and built more muscle than I thought was possible. Those numbers are incredible on their own, but they don't even scratch the surface of what makes Chase exceptional. The guy just knows his stuff. Fitness, nutrition, programming- he understands it all at a level that most trainers don't come close to. What blows me away is how much we pack into a single hour. We're hitting multiple training qualities at once and it never feels thrown together- it's always intentional. What really sets Chase apart is how adaptable he is. Life gets busy, schedules change, some days you just don't have it- and he meets you right where you are every single time. He doesn't expect your life to fit around training, he fits training around your life. That's honestly a big reason I've stayed consistent long enough to actually see results. He also keeps me accountable, but in a way that makes me want to show up, not dread it. No guilt trips, no pressure. Just someone who genuinely cares whether you succeed. Chase has exceeded every expectation I've ever had of a trainer, and I don't say that lightly. If you're thinking about it, just do it. You won't find better.

Being lazy hasn't hindered me in the past, but recently I've upset my metabolism with all the eating out and drinking. (I think some of you may feel my pain?) So, I've been watching this group of people run up and down the hill by my house, then do push-ups, squats, bear crawls, and a million other exercises under the direction of one man. After a while of watching I made up my mind to head down the hill and see what all this movement was about. Turns out Trainer Scott operates a boot camp 5 days a week at Wash Park (at Downing and Ohio). Monday through Thursday at 7 pm and Saturday mornings at 10 am. You can go to all 5 of these classes for $75 a month. It's almost like he doesn't give you a reason to not sign up. So I did. The first hour-long class I thought I was going to die. I almost threw up 3 times and I almost passed out 4. I know, I know. You are probably thinking why did I go back? Well, I may be exaggerating about what I felt, but that's because this workout seriously kicked my ass. Like, I could barely roll out of bed the next day because all my muscles were so very sore. I am really enjoying the classes though. Scott has a way of making time fly while making you sweat your guts out. And each time I feel myself getting a little stronger. And that is a very fantastic feeling. Plus, I've been going for about 3 weeks now and I still feel the soreness from working my muscles so hard and I think my belt is getting loser even.

All these class styles offer many benefits; I have personally seen improvements in strength, endurance, and agility, but in all my time at the gym, the improvement I am most proud of is a change in attitude. At that time, I was occasionally going to a normal gym and sticking to basic exercises thinking that was enough to offset the sedentary lifestyle of a person working in the corporate world. A good friend convinced me to attend Scott's boot camp one day and that was the day I realized that not only was I not pushing myself hard enough, but also I had been underestimating the value of working out and the benefits it could bring to my life. The first day was tough and it made me realize just how out of shape I really was. Luckily, I found that the class was in itself the best support system. I've trained in the US and in Canada, and Robyn has them all beat. To start, she sat and talked with me about my goals and my injuries, and I could tell from the beginning that she had a deep understanding of what I wanted to get out of our sessions. After an initial assessment, the training began, and she consistently pushed me outside my comfort zone but within my ability range. Anyone who deals with injuries knows that pushing too far too fast only results in damage and more time recuperating, and Robyn helped me find that perfect balance. Not once during our sessions did I find myself regretting pushing so hard, and I knew that she had her eye on my form, making sure that I did everything perfectly. She is a professional and takes her work seriously, and it shows. Not only did she work with me on a weekly basis, but she provided a written description of the exercises we had completed and how I should continue with them in our "off" time. If you've ever worked with another trainer, you'll know that is not standard! Long story short, I began struggling on V1s and finished, 8 sessions later, projecting on V6s with no sign of injury. Finally, to avoid further spousal abuse, I agreed to meet Kathleen. Next thing I knew I was working out a couple of times a week in these structured, scheduled sessions. Kathleen's like that - she gets you moving. I felt better. A lot better. Then boxing. Not the "get the tar beat out of you by some incredibly quick, in shape guy" kind of boxing, rather, intense classes that focus on skills, mobility, flexibiltiy, quickness, and strength. The coach, mentor, instructor, Robert, is talented and very, very professional. I'm hooked. And wiped at the end of each class. It's a good feeling.
