This is a review based only on my current experience trying to book a VR experience with the company. I wanted to book for a group for this coming Friday. I wanted to take advantage of a special posted online which requires me to book in person or over the phone. I have called at least 5 times on three different days and haven't connected. The person returned my call once without a message and never again. I am so frustrated! At this point I looked into just booking online and the time slot I want is not available. This is unlike my first experience in May. The man I spoke to over the phone that time was easy to get hold of and very helpful and responsive with my questions. It was easy to book. The experience itself was good. There was one glitch but easily fixed and on the whole we had a good time. I don't understand what happened in 2 months to make them so unresponsive now. read more

Laser tag was the most fun, but one of the eye thing broke midway, and it had to be replaced. The escape room was okay. We did the time travel one. There was only one time we were offered a clue, and I think he got busy bc I heard him talk to other ppl, but he never asked us again if we wanted a clue. So we lost the escape room. I wish they would see that people have a better experience if they win. But regardless, typically, there's more than one time they offer you a clue. Went here for a kids birthday party, and before we confirmed with the birthday family, we called the venue to ask about our daughter who is 1 month shy of being 5 yrs old if she is allowed to play short stints of the VR games. The person on the phone said that it's okay if we are okay with it, which we said we are. They asked if she has done escape rooms before, and we answered that my daughter has done several before. When we arrived, I made sure again to ask the worker on site if our daughter is allowed to play and they said it's ok. Then when the escape room game was being set up, they denied allowing her to join. They said she is too young to understand, despite we told them she has done escape rooms in the past and loves them. Fine, whatever. Then when laser tag got started, everyone was getting strapped up, even kids younger than my daughter who were boys were strapped up and ready to play. But then the worker, a caucasian person who wore a hat, picked on my daughter to say she's too young and can't play. He didn't call out any of the other boys who were younger and smaller than her, he just picked on her to say she can't play. We had to argue back and forth that we accept the risks for having her play bc she is young, but then it's ridiculous we had to justify and argue it when the worker literally did not pick on any of the other younger boys. If it weren't for my daughter's friend's birthday party, we would have just left. Never coming back here again. read more

We unfortunately haven't gotten a chance to try out the VR here, but I wanted to write a review for their outstanding service. I had a VR reservation booked for my siblings and I for a Saturday afternoon. We were all driving in from different regions (Bay Area, San Diego, Fullerton) and were looking forward to spending time together doing VR. A little while before our reservation, Leland gave me a call to notify me that the internet was down and they were working to bring it back online. Our reservation would need to get pushed back, but they might not have it back on until the evening. Since we were driving from pretty far, we could only wait an extra hour or two. I explained this to Leland and he was very apologetic of the situation (it was outside his control). He offered us a refund, as well as a couple comped activities the next time we're in town and want to try out the location again. Leland went above and beyond to ensure solid communication throughout the day and that we're inclined to give it another chance when we're back in the area. So much fun! Our family of 4 had a blast playing the VR LaserTag together this afternoon. The manager Zach was an amazingly helpful and friendly announcer, calling out our play by play and making it even more exciting for us. This is located upstairs in a mall near JC Penney. We reserved the Goblin Quest adventure online for 4 girls, ages 10-16. This was their first time doing a VR escape room. They all had so much fun and completed their mission. I'd recommend reservations since space is limited. They also have space for one or two players games. read more

I was really disappointed with our visit to this place during a party. One of the workers was very rude to my son. My son stood at the front of the group waiting for his turn (he hadn't played yet) because the worker specifically asked for those who hadn't played. Still, the worker picked other kids instead for two rounds. When my son stood there to watch, the worker yelled at him and pointed at him, telling him not to stand on the black line on the floor, but didn't say anything to another child doing the same thing right next to him. I didn't even know this happened until we got home and my son told me. I asked his friend too, and he confirmed it. Not a good experience at all. read more

Myself and my two nephews took on the Goblin Quest adventure. For $33 a person, I think it was pretty lower to mid range for an Escape room. I think that it's very cool that there is so little setup, which probably keeps costs down. We were able to be completely immersed in this story, to the point where we become the goblins. Unfortunately, my younger nephew got quite scared in the beginning part, where you're stuck in a jail cell. He opted out for the rest of the quest, and with there were puzzles that needed all three players to participate, the game facilitator stepped in and did the 3rd part. The remaining nephew and myself had a super fun time solving all the puzzles, which were somewhat challenging but nothing preteens wouldn't be able to handle. Highly recommend this activity, and the discount on laser tag around the corner sweetens the pot. read more

Really great experience here! I actually wasn't expecting much when I first read up on it but it was quite enjoyable! We had a group of 5 and played the Goblin's Quest which is the only large group game. This is a unique experience and it was really fun getting into character and exploring the maps. We are not first timers when it comes to escape rooms, but the puzzles were relatively simple and could definitely be enjoyed by all ages (but they recommend older than 8). I typically get motion sickness and so was afraid, but that did not happen here for me!! Would definitely return if they have any more large party escape rooms!! read more

We were really excited to have a VR party for my son's 13th birthday. We initially emailed and then spoke to Javier Castaneda, owner, over the phone and he was caring and enthusiastic. He offered a free sample VR laser tag to see if we would like it. We were sold! Javier was never there (even the day of the party) but his technicians/associates were kind and helpful. Javier upsold us the VIP Platinum package saying, "you can do anything as long as it's legal." It included a private VIP room, Escape Room, and Laser Tag (see below). The day before the party, I called to confirm and work out the details. Javier was a bit curt and told us that we can only arrive 5 minutes before the party starts. He explained that his associates will set everything up for us so we don't need to arrive early. On the day of the party, we arrive and one associate helps us bring everything in. I wanted the food in the VIP room but they told us we can't have it in the VIP room. All party food can only be in the Laser Tag room. I'm thinking, what happened to "we can do anything we want." The second I check in, they charge my credit card for the remainder of the balance, totaling $870, in front of my guests. They had other customers in the Escape room when we were supposed to have the entire venue to ourselves. The associates told us that we were starting in Laser Tag. They spent part of the 3 hours signing affidavits and going over the security debrief. So now, I'm thinking the Escape Room should be empty. Nope! We get there, they tell us a few more minutes. When the kids finally get on, the game glitches and they have to reset the entire system, including the internet. 40 minutes into the party, kids finally get to start their escape room experience. The kids had a great time for most of the party. THEN the last 20 minutes, they let another party into the Escape Room area when it was still supposed to be closed off. The 6 non-party guests started eating my son's party snacks and smelled like they smoked A LOT of marijuana. They were told it won't be long until their turn. I thought this was a breach of our "private party" agreement and upsetting when we were still within the 3 hours. We had 17 children and 6 adults who participated in the VR experience which gave most of the guests a chance to play. Pros - How kind, patient, and helpful all of the party host and associates are. - The VR experience is really well programmed and the kids had a great time. - Cleanliness - Price is cheaper than other locations - You can bring in your own food, non-alcoholic beverages, and cake - VIP lounge was a great way for kids to have something else to do while waiting for VR Cons - The only restroom was out of order so guests had to walk to the other side of the mall. One kid walked off by himself to try and find a restroom. We caught him just in time and an adult supervised him. - Distance between the two rooms with very little supervision between the two locations. I had to keep walking back and forth to make sure the children were safe. - They let other guests in even though it was a private party - System and internet glitches and they take a while for everything to be reset - 5 minutes to set up is not enough time Per Javier's email, "3 Hours VIP PLATINUM Package ($795) Banquet Hall + VR LaserTag + Upgrades you to also receive All 8 VR Escape Room Adventures + Private Exclusive Access to our 3,000 Sq Ft VIP LOUNGE. This place is awesome! I was struggling to find a venue to host my son's 9th birthday, and then I stumbled upon this gem. Javier was super helpful in setting up this special event for my son. Very informative, polite, humorous, and accommodating! Ruben was an amazing host! He's super awesome and made the party a great experience for all of us! I ordered the VIP party package, and I was most certainly not disappointed at all. The 3 hours went by so fast, and I didn't even have to really do anything. The wonderful staff did everything for us! The only thing the kids didn't like was when it was time to leave! I've been told by many parents that their kids begged them to have their next birthday party here! If you're thinking about scheduling a party here, don't hesitate! Think Nike.... just do it! The kids loved it, and even the adults enjoyed some VR action as well. I personally tried one of the escape rooms, even though I was a little reluctant due to my issues with motion sickness, but it was a breeze and super fun! Great experience! I did the ward 9 escape game, which was 30 min. Very clever puzzles, and kind of creepy masks, which was funny when we got scared when we saw each others masks. The place is mostly empty space where players wear a somewhat heavy headgear and hold two clicker controllers to select items for clues and activation to complete puzzles. Simon is the CEO of the company, great customer service from him. Natalia works the retail side and is a graphic designer. They also have a software guy. They started out creating games and leasing them out but found that having a physical space to play the games would be more profitable. VR shooters seem to be more saturated so creating escape games brings a somewhat different experience to VR. I think this is something that will blow up and expand soon. Hoping the resolution of the VR will improve as well as the gear (more lightweight). Will definitely try the 4-6 player goblin game at some point because I really enjoyed ward 9. read more

Very cool and memorable for my first VR experience! We did the Goblin one...I've done escape rooms before, but this was so unique being coupled with VR. Staff is very nice and explains everything clearly, especially important for a newbie like me. Going "into" the game too, directions are pretty clear as well. I liked that the puzzles were difficult enough to make us think, but not impossible to solve. It gave a sense of achievement solving each puzzle. I heard that sometimes VR can make one feel sick, but nobody in my group felt sick at all because what you see and how you move are well-connected. It feels pretty surreal and I was so immersed in the whole experience, from our characters, to "grabbing" and "dropping" items, with the settings and everything. My group, though complete strangers, was able to work together to solve all the puzzles and escape before the timer ran out. I believe you have about 45 minutes to escape, and we managed to escape in about 37, but it did not feel that way because I was so in the moment. I would highly recommend trying this place at least once! I think because it is VR, the types of puzzles you solve can be different and unique from actual escape rooms. Escape rooms have been all the rage lately, and I've tried my fair share of them. Some are harder than others, and some are more fun. This is my first time trying a virtual reality escape room, and it was a delightful experience. Fast forward to the end, and we didn't escape. We spent too much time in the beginning playing around, both with ourselves and each other. We forgot that we were being timed, but it was still fun when all was said and done. At the same time, I'm surprised that this doesn't cause more people to break up! My fiance is horrible at following directions. This caused a great deal of frustration, and I must admit that I was more upset than necessary by the game's end. I mean, if he had just listened the way he should, we would have won. But...sigh. I hope we never find ourselves in a real escape room, because he will be the end of me. read more

I was so excited to visit Escape VR especially after the Yelp event they offered in Santa Ana. I knew that i would be back and i knew just the friend that would come with. Escape VR offers an assortment of games ranging from 2-10 players. The day we visited we were fitted for our backpacks and sensors and ready to go. The game that was chosen was the Psych Ward, Im not one for scary things so its safe to say this one was manageable. Without giving too much away the game is a handful of games that show your skill set, team work and listening skills. Called and talked to someone who said we wouldn't need a reservation if coming during the week. Showed up and the gate was closed even though they were supposed to be open. Called and talked to someone who kinda gave us the runaround and but eventually came to the front and talked to us through the gate, very hesitant to let us in. He told us he didn't know how to operate anything and it would be a wait before someone could get us in and started. I came here for a Birthday for my friend and had an amazing time! The owner was so accommodating for us. He went above and beyond to say the least! First, he helped us with directions then walked us in. He stood open after hours and even threw in some free games just because we had a small wait. He really made our experience unforgettable. The game masters were nice and fun people. The staff here are really great people. We checked out the private room which looked amazing as well. I am beyond happy of this experience. Not to mention the great customer service from Javier and Alexis hosted our VR escape game. We brought our three year old along, he didn't play the escape room. He sat in the same room where we played together as a family. Alexis block the entrance while our game was in session to make sure no one walked up to where my three year old was sitting. Besides the great customer service, the game was super fun. We did the escape room with the trolls. Forgot the name lol It was 4 of us playing the game. It helped us work together as a family. It got frustrating at times but you can ask for clue if everyone in the game agrees. We completed the game in 39 minutes the timer was set for 45. I wish I had pictures. I was looking for something fun to do on a Saturday evening and came across Escape VR on yelp. I had been in the Westminster Mall plenty of times and never paid this place any attention and all the positive reviews had me curious. Although it was already 6:30pm we were able to get an 8pm booking for the Goblin's Quest room for 2 people. We were slightly skeptical because we were sure if this was more for kids but we ended up having a blast. It was 45 minutes of interactive fun and solving puzzles and we actually escaped the room with less than 3 minutes to spare on the "normal" difficulty. They have a harder difficulty as well which we may try next time. I definitely will be returning to try the other room. Also, the staff was very friendly. Give this place a try, it's not your typical cheesy mall gimmick game spot. read more

Let me say... I don't usually take the time to write reviews..but when I do..its because something exceeded my expectations! And that is exactly what happened at Escape VR. A group of 12 of us met in Orange as a meetup and wanted to find an activity that we could do together. While we weren't able to do the escape VR all at once, Javier (one of the owners) was able to work with my group and we were able to take advantage of their VIP lounge which accommodated our group to be able to enjoy the pool table, foosball table, rockband/PS5. Because we had the VIP lounge, we were able to split the groups into two and it gave those that weren't doing the escape room a place to hang out and play some other activities. Now, for the actual Escape VR... definitely something that none of my friends and I expected. It was so fun and interactive! With the calibration involved...it was a legit full body VR escape room, moving around the space provided and taking a portal to a different level. It was pretty epic and hilarious! On top of the Escape VR, they also offered VR Laser tag which again.. was an incredible experience! Definitely felt like we were in an actual laser tag arena once we set up and playing. Overall, this was an 11/10 experience for my group and I and would recommend for you to take advantage of all that they have to offer. The location is located inside of a mall, and I'm rooting for them to be able to get their own storefront because there is so much potential to what they can do with more space.
