Gyro Wrap back in the 80s used to be in a mall or in Athens downtown across the street from the current location. Back in the day I ate my share of gyros. Since then I've lived near Detroit and Chicago so I've had my share of gyros. The current Gyro Wrap is not like the former. It's a nice clean restaurant that seats many people. Tonight I'm the lone diner. Order at the counter, take a number, and in a few minutes you get your meal served in a paper boat. The fries are Curley like they used to be. They were hit and crispy but you need to shake on your own seasoning. The gyro tastes like I remember. It's a bit small and could use some more meat for a $15 meal. Location -in the middle of town among other businesses, very conveniently located; it's in walking distance to UGA and downtown Athens. Street parking with meters. Parking garages farther away. Many tables available in front of the restaurant in the No-traffic, pedestrian block. Facilities: indoors is small but very clean and restrooms might be the cleanest in town.

Not only was she friendly and engaging, but she has earned the title of the "Best Athens, Georgia Ambassador... Ever!" Her knowledge about the town she's grown up in and advocacy for attractions on and off the UGA campus was more than appreciated. We shared a fabulous pastrami sandwich with pickled beets, Gouda, and arugula and a cup of the freshest, crispest, most flavorful watermelon gazpacho I have ever had. I think I might be ruined. The one I was seeking was too heavy for me, but I wanted to buy local so I chose a different, more expensive one. The only color they had in store was baby blue, so I agreed to buy a red one from their warehouse, paying upfront. When I picked it up the salesperson (same one who sold it to me), handed me a shopping bag and sent me on my way. I trusted them and didn't look in the bag. Thirty minutes later, a $267 tea kettle is rattling around my trunk. No box, no paperwork, nothing. The salesperson handed me the bag without saying anything!! Any reputable business would let you know the situation, perhaps offer a discount, and give you a choice about whether you still wanted the item. I returned the item and will never be back again. When this business goes down, they will only have their own questionable business practices and poor customer service to blame. (btw, their breakfasts are super oily and disgusting)
