Desert Botanical Garden - Desert Pulse exhibit

The Desert Botanical Garden is always a great place to go for a walk and experience the beauty of…read morethe desert. Every visit feels a little different depending on the season, and it's amazing to see all the different desert plants, wildlife, art installations, and water features throughout the garden. My wife especially loves coming here for gardening inspiration because this is one of the best places to see what actually thrives in a desert environment. One of the things that keeps us coming back is how often they rotate exhibits and events throughout the year. If you live nearby, a membership is absolutely worth it because just a few visits will pay for itself. Earlier this spring we visited during the FRAMERATE: Desert Pulse installation, which used 3D scanning technology to document desert life. The huge digital displays scattered throughout the garden added such a unique modern contrast to the natural scenery. They're currently hosting the Garden: After Dark exhibit with light installations integrated into the trails and cactus gardens. We visited during the daytime so we haven't experienced it firsthand yet, but it already looks incredible. Another highlight is the permanent Dale Chihuly glass exhibit near the entrance. If you're a fan of glass art or Chihuly's work, you'll definitely want to spend time checking it out. A few tips: definitely bring water, especially if you're visiting during the day. Thankfully there are several refill stations throughout the trails and plenty of shaded seating areas to rest. There's also Gertrude's near the main entrance along with a café deeper in the garden for snacks and lighter fare. The gift shop is also worth browsing before you leave. One of my favorite parts of every visit is the wildlife. On this trip alone we saw prairie dogs, quail, woodpeckers, doves, hummingbirds, and even a roadrunner. It's such a peaceful and beautifully maintained place that never gets old no matter how many times you visit.

The garden is always such a nice place to experience nature, get inspired for gardening and outdoor…read moredesign, and get a little walk in. They do such a nice job with all of it! They also hold events all through the year. I definitely recommend a membership if you're close-ish. I come often and it's definitely worth it and supports a great organization. If you see volunteers at any of the tables throughout the garden, take a moment to stop! They have interesting information and its fun to learn new things from them. The short guided tour is also worth doing.

The Four Seasons Scottsdale isn't just a hotel -- it's a desert mirage that actually exists…read more Built in the late 1990s, when developers decided golf courses and luxury spas could bloom where only rattlesnakes and saguaros once stood, this resort is proof that money waters everything. Think adobe chic meets spa catalog. Casitas sprawl across the Sonoran landscape like they were dropped from a helicopter and told to blend in. Inside, everything is cooled, cushioned, and curated -- a million miles away from the fact you're technically in the middle of nowhere. Step outside your casita and there's a saguaro cactus giving you the side-eye, wondering why you're paying $25 for avocado toast when it grows for free right next to you. The pool is basically an oasis, complete with cabanas that make you forget Scottsdale is basically Phoenix in a nicer shirt. The spa? You'll get massaged, exfoliated, and moisturized until you feel like a well-polished golf ball. And of course, Troon North golf course looms in the background -- a lush green playground carved out of desert that makes golfers weep with joy and water conservationists weep with rage. This is the Four Seasons -- you could walk in dressed like a hungover rodeo clown and they'd still treat you like visiting royalty (we were). Staff float around like desert ninjas, topping off your drinks, folding your towels, and politely ignoring your questionable SPF choices. The poolside margaritas are $22, but don't worry -- they come with a complimentary identity crisis. Four Seasons Scottsdale isn't hospitality, it's hostility against your bank account. (because let's face it, you're not here to save money, you're here to buy bragging rights). The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale is above average, over the top, and exactly what happens when luxury colonizes the desert and wins. Funny thing is, you'll leave broke but refreshed -- which is kind of the Four Seasons brand in a nutshell.

Chaparral Off Leash Area - Fun at the dog park

Very easy review- the best dog park anywhere near me. I'm located in north Tempe. Chaparral dog…read morepark is in Scottsdale and it's about a 12 min drive for me. This is not the closest place for me to go but it's by far the best. 3 large fenced in dog park areas, many types of friendly and fun pooches will be there for your fur babies to play with. It's fun for me to see all the different types of breeds that come here. Most of the pups are well behaved. I've seen a couple times some negligent owners on their phones so spaced out, don't pick up their dogs poop or watch what their dogs are doing, but as far as dog parks go- it's the best for not having to stress that something negative will happen. I've been to other dog parks in the area that just had bad vibes. This one is nice and happy. It's as clean as a dog park can be, they do regular maintenance to the grounds, and there is a huge parking lot. It's also nice to walk the dogs in that area as well. My boys love it here and I'm happy to take them. Important to note- check the hours on certain days since they do the maintenance and close the parks. I've shown up a couple times forgetting about this and it was closed, so we just went for a nice walk instead.

With it' stunning mountains, palm trees and ritzy houses, Scottsdale is gorgeous. Bonus points for only being about 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel itself is beautiful with a ton of common areas to enjoy the sunset and scenery. It was a little chilly so the number of outdoor fire pits were very much appreciated. I was put in a room in the 17the or 19th building. I got lost a couple of times as it gets quite dark and the property is a bit of a maze. My friends were closer to the entrance. My room was nice but I felt it needed a bit of an update. Unfortunately I didn't receive my member benefits. I think this is a good resort for meeting up with a group or family, though there were plenty of couples while we were there. I didn't pay a ton for our stay which was good because I didn't really consider it a luxury property. A few things to note: the convenience store is only open till 6pm so plan accordingly. They will take you in a golf cart to your room. The pool is heated in the winter. Uber only takes a few minutes to come get you.

The property is beautiful and the room is large. The bathroom was the best part for us with the giant shower and jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed renting the bikes they have on property and biked a 4 mile loop that was very scenic through the surrounding neighborhood. There are a ton of fire pits and we enjoyed making s'mores at night. The pool is heated which is helpful for this time of year. There are also 2 hot tubs on property. Right now it's decorated for Christmas which definitely added extra to our visit.
