As I was looking through their menu, I noticed a regular and large size haddock meal that included chips. I wanted two pieces of fish to share between my friend and I, so I splurged on the extra $4. The meal ($12.95), a small gravy, and a can of pop would be roughly $17.57 after tax. My meal was delivered, and included ONE piece of fish(the breading came away as I pulled the paper back) and a literal handful of fries, with the smallest gravy I've ever seen. If a large meal comes with one piece, what the heck comes with a regular meal? I feel ripped off. I should have gone to Archies and gotten a two piece with fries and large gravy for less. I attached a photo so you can see what I'm describing: the fish is under the fries at the back.

As our main course, my husband got the double cheeseburger and fries and I got the Buffalo chicken with fries, booth plates where 10/10. I would recommend people to try this and support some local independent business versus going to a large chain restauran. Thanks again for the meal and service you provided for us this evening. Lunch was perfect with lots of soups, salads, and sandwiches to choose from. They even had a soup flight! I opted for butternut squash soup and a small Greek salad. Everything was delicious and portions were perfect. Husband had a chicken pita and decided on tots for his side. I stole a few tots and they were delicious. Nice and crispy. Service was excellent. The place was a cute one-room area with a little bar in the back of the room and booths and tables throughout. The bar had a big screen TV which was showing a baseball game. It looked like they have live music on certain days. It's part of a strip mall so don't miss it.

Through the Thursday specials we were able to sample the Beer can chicken and the Baby back ribs. The breading on the fried chicken tasted good, but there was a little too much white meat to go with it after. Good thing the gravy they have for their poutine and the chicken was very flavourful. The baby back ribs' meat was fall-off-the-bone-tender. Maybe a little bit too tender where it might be a little undercooked. There looks to be some traces of redness on the meat strands which may or may not be signs of still raw meat. We love the vibe of the place. It was packed during the Thursday night we dined in. Different sports were being played on the many different TV screens present in the restaurant bar. Their table service frequency could use a little bit of improvement. We found we had to wait for someone to come to our table a couple times too many during ordering and asking for the bill.

So, not a big reviewer so take it for what's it worth…read more We've been going to Zander's for quite a few years now, mostly for wing night, but not exclusively, last night for example. (But I still got wings ) Over the years it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. At times, there's no place better in the city and at other times it's rather lack luster, just living on current reputation. Then at some point, the manager who seems to speak to everyone in the restaurant, but seems to not even recognize us, he realizes this and begins to turn things around. Currently we seem to be in a low spot, and here's why I think this. Mainly it's due to high turnover of staff. It seems there are new servers in week to week (probably not that frequently, but it seems that way). We remember seeing the same proficient servers week after week, now they're mostly all gone. The tall skinnier older guy (sorry I can't remember your name) is AMAZING and we hope for him every time. Sadly, we're left with the "new girl" and the service that comes with a new employee. It's an assumption that the staff just aren't treated well and that's why they leave, but could just be the restaurant industry. Lastly, food preparation has fallen below their norm. I ask for my hot Buffalo wings to be extra saucy and they NEVER are and the response I get is, the chicken wings absorbs too much of it. I ask for my wings extra saucy EVERYWHERE I go, no place else has a problem hitting the mark here. I also don't think whoever is cooking the food is tasting the food, these wings are NOT hot by any standards, I can say this because I eat a lot of chicken wings and a lot of hot wings are too spicy for me, these don't even reach medium temps. Nevertheless, the wings are tasty and I like them. Lastly, we often attend with a couple friends and one of them orders their wings extra crispy, when this happens, I too get my wings extra crispy, I don't particularly enjoy extra crispy wings :( Anyway, we're gonna stay away for a while I think and head over to Kelsey's, it's less convenient but has been far more consistent over time. Like I said, I'm not an expert here, so please make your own decisions, I just want the old Zander's back.

Unfortunately, we have to report that's it "meh", at best. The food itself is edible, but not particularly flavourful - it's like it was made to appeal exclusively to old people with greatly diminished palettes, which might explain why we always see the place peopled, sparsely, with an older clientele (the night we actually ordered, there were two tables of middle-aged to elderly patrons - it was a Saturday). Ordered the Basic Fish and Chips (meh), and the Salmon Salad (also, meh). Not sure how they can afford to pay the half-dozen staff that we saw "working" there that night. Service was not good - very distracted and obviously NOT interested in providing any kind of assistance to people who've never been there before. LOTS of socializing going on at the front counter where they have an open window to the kitchen (all among employees and none with Customers, of course). Seriously, you'd think they'd kind of want to be extra nice to/professional with newer, younger faces that arrive on their doorstep. Usually, price is the last of my concerns, since I'm more than happy to pay more for great food and good service, but I have to say they overcharge for what you get. Over $40 for a smallish Fish and Chip plate and a tiny salad with chopped up bits of salmon. Really don't understand how this place stays afloat.
