There are huge pancakes here and soft biscuits. Right there--mic drop. Good reason to go! They have consistent good service, and they show special care toward my elderly parent who is a regular.  I find their biscuits and gravy to be the best in the city: well seasoned with small pieces of sausage throughout (and a small kick of pepper after taste---mmm). My family is huge fan of their sausage; it's always cooked well, and they find ways to offer it up differently (see picture of sausage croissant). My mother and I were wanting a nice, quick lunch and she recommended Archie's. The outside and inside is nice and welcoming. They have it cutely decorated with antiques and the tables and chairs are so nice and solid looking. Normally when places decorate with antiques it feels dirty, but they do a great job keeping it dust free and clean. They offer breakfast until 11 and then lunch service begins. Everyone there seemed happy. I ordered a Reuben and I asked about subbing sweet potato fries for the regular, but she was unsure how much the upcharge was. So instead I said "how about subbing for cole slaw instead since they are the same price as the fries, so that should work, right." My mom's side of onion rings was delicious. Perfect amount of crisp and flavor. My cole slaw was watery and eh. The Reuben had good flavor, but the bread was drenched in butter. Way to much butter. Towards the end I knew my stomach was going to hate me later. When I received the ticket, I saw I was up charged for the 2oz of gross cole slaw. When I brought it to the waitress attention she said yes, because I got something different other than fries or chips. I reminded her the cole slaw was the same price as the fries and she did not tell me there was a charge. She called her manager and the manager basically said so what. No where on the menu does it say how much the upcharges will be or if there will be one, even if the side is the same price. I understand upcharges, but they need to be clear and the customer needs to be told when they are going to happen. I educated the waitress on her communication and paid. Guess what? They charge for using a credit card! I had cash, I would have paid cash if someone had told me. Again, what? So basically all the good feels I had at the beginning were gone and I saw Archie's as crooked. I basically feel robbed from. And I called it. I felt gross afterwards and my stomach was/is upset later. Not going back. read more

Haven't been here in a while but decided to go this morning. Never again. The prices are ridiculous. My breakfast was awful. The egg was overcooked, the biscuit could be used to shoot skeet with and the home fries were like eating little rocks. My husband had the same complaints except that he had hash browns and they were way be overcooked. Will not go back!! read more

Oh my this was really good. The food was excellent along with the waitress, she was very attentive and friendly. The decor is cool too. We had a Reuben o-rings and hubby had fries If I am ever driving through Ava again I'll definitely come back to this place. read more

Kind of disappointing. One in our party ordered a mushroom burger. It took 20 minutes for it to arrive, our other 2 meals were almost over by the time hers arrived. I ordered onion rings, which were nothing like the photo. It was onion "petals" instead, kind of greasy and nothing like rings. Waitress kept forgetting parts of our meals, even though we asked for separate tickets, she lumped it all together. Probably won't come back again. Stopped in on trip home because we wanted local fare instead of fast food. Note - this review during Covid restricted time frame. Tables are spaced to the 6 ft and more distances advised at this time. The decor is "country cute" and includes some nice examples of the way things were sold back in the day. Service was prompt, friendly, and food arrived promptly and hot. Iced tea tasted fresh and waitress gladly did half and half for my wife. Provided to go refills for the road. Food was perfect. Club sandwich seems a bit expensive but when it arrived? Huge portion piled high and worth the price. Took half home and had for dinner. Good sandwich. Fries were hot and coated with a light batter. We went 15 minutes out of our way from Springfield to Memphis. Well worth the effort. We had the perfect Smashburger!! Picky about fries. They were fabulous also. We split a root beer float that was delish!! We will be back!!! read more

Why didn't I check Yelp instead of other review?! Very quaint and nice menu. Waitress was very distracted although nice. 20 minutes to get our water and when food arrived it had added chicken instead of substitution, thus I had a bite of hamburger which I am allergic. Very unpleasant night. She did offer to get another one which I appreciated as the first one looked good, only to return and say they were out of potatoes. My husbands fish was perfect but his fries cold and Texas Toast cold and dried out. No one was wearing masks. So, maybe it was a bad night for them but the misery due not heeding my food allergy, we will not be back. The rest of the experience does not warrant a second chance read more

The first time I ate here was for lunch with a friend. I ordered the catfish and it was really good. Most recently we went there for breakfast and the experience was another positive one. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is well kept, and the food was better than the stuff you get from chain restaurants. I would give 5 stars but they don't take credit or debit cards, only cash or check. read more

Food is very good and always fresh. The service is fast also. Not all the wait staff is as friendly as they could be, but it isn't terrible. This is also a small restaurant and I just wish there was room for more seating available. read more
