The studio welcomes all practitioners from new to seasoned, and the sense of community she has built is unlike anything else in the area. The Katonah style is so fun with endless props, and the variety of offerings keeps things fresh, from sound bowl sessions and yogalates to movement class and even a book club. There is truly something for everyone. And the store! From yoga mats and clothing to palo santo and candles, it is the kind of place you wander into and leave with more than you planned. They also offer memberships and class packs, so there are great options no matter how often you can come in. I would love to gatekeep this one, but it is just too good not to share. Unfortunately this review isn't about the yoga classes but the facility only simply because I came there for a concert. A friend of mine (Jason Luckett) plays there on every 2nd Saturday of the month. The yoga studio is on the third floor. It's very nice inside. I only visually saw the workout area, kitchen and the bathroom. Looks like a great place to practice yoga. If I lived nearby I would definitely take classes there. Located on the 3rd floor, this boutique studio is cozy and not intimidating. It's spacious with a kitchen that is used for special events or private parties. You can take an individual class, select a package, or sign up for a membership. (Mats & props are provided.) My first experience with Sara, Jenn, and their crew was attending my first full moon with tarot card session, which was so relaxing and fun! Their studio is on the 3rd floor above a rug store so just be on the lookout for their signs and walk up 2 flights of stairs. I had such a good time I ended up hosting my mom's night birthday party sound bath here, and they were awesome at helping me plan and letting me bring food and drinks for us to enjoy afterwards. I recently starting taking classes - I mainly do the Sunday morning sound bath then yoga afterwards - and adore when Sara is teaching since her hands on adjustments feel amazing. We have been to about 6 classes here with Sara. She truly lights up the room and is a gem of a human person. She is clear on instruction and offers hands on adjustments if you're comfortable with them. This restorative yoga class has been instrumental in my workout regime! Have been practicing at Archetype Yoga consistently for the past 5 months, and it's truly become a special part of my week. The studio is spacious, calming, with thoughtful touches like two full bathrooms, unique merchandise and a little library, that make the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. The vibe here is incredibly grounded. Everyone, from the instructors to the fellow students are friendly and down to earth. It never feels intimidating or "scene-y," just full of people showing up for themselves and each other. Every teacher brings something unique, but I have to shout out Sara, my FAV, whose restorative classes feel like a reset for both body and mind--like a gentle therapy session with movement. Nicole also leads a beautiful restorative class, and the Sunday sound bath offering by Chidimma is something next-level. They also go beyond the mat. Archetype hosts a book club, special events like full moon sound baths, jazz night, and you can really tell they care about creating community and supporting people on and off the mat. Their studio manager, Jen is so thoughtful and has an amazing response time via email for help with anything. I've been participating in the restorative yoga class for the last 8 weeks and I am really enjoying the class. Sara has been amazing in providing instruction, guidance and support. I am so happy that I found Archetype yoga. I hurt my back doing various different exercise routines, and functional fitness. I decided to try yoga and I found this studio, which has been so incredible. Sara and the rest of the teachers are also kind, caring, warm, and nurturing. I'm just a beginner at yoga and they have made me feel at home. Also, one of the things I love even more, are the sound baths. Those do an amazing job of resetting my nervous system. I was almost late to class because I couldn't find it! Keep in mind this studio is on the 3rd floor, so you'll have to walk up some stairs. I signed up for class via ClassPass and I was pleasantly surprised! The studio has a little gift shop, kitchen, and a space for yoga practice. They have mats and all the equipment you need - no need to rent anything which is awesome. I took the Restorative Yoga class and it was a 75 minute class that was super calming. We did breathwork and multiple poses that I've never done before. It wasn't an intense workout - or a workout at all, but mostly like a stretching class. The instructor walked through the studio and gave hands on adjustments - which I LOVE. All in all, the class was very calming and I highly recommend people come try it out. I found free 1 hr street parking nearby, but I imagine parking could be more difficult on busier days. Unfortunately, the restroom was out of order during my visit. My other only gripe is that the yoga mats seemed a little dirty - and we weren't asked to wipe them down after class. So I imagine they're just not wiped very often. This review is specifically for the Katonah and Slow Flow classes (+ their weekly sound baths). I'm not great with words, but I think ABUNDANT is the right word to describe Archetype. Sara leads classes with such grace and patience, her adjustments add a (fantastic) gentle push. Katonah is a unique style of yoga that I've come to love. Its emphasis on personal alignment and geometry-- like measuring with fists, props, etc. has helped me further my own growth and practice. The Slow Flow classes have such fun sequences. I learn something new each time. The weekly sound baths are also great-- they are conducted in such a inviting, welcoming, and safe way that I really get to unwind. Chidimma was so sweet and she was so skillful in knowing the right tones to play in order to get everyone to relax. There are plenty of props and mats that are included (free!) with each class, something that other studios normally charge for. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow students to practice with plenty of natural light. Lovely, beautiful space. As a final note-- TWO clean bathrooms! Yay! read more

I don't usually write reviews unless I have an inexcusable experience or an exceptional one, and today was everything I would have hoped for in a yoga class. 7 classes in, and my second "yogalates" class - I really felt an accomplishment after today's class all thanks to Kiana. the level of detail Kiana provided in her coaching is what I think every instructor should take note from. In previous classes, the instructors show how to do a certain technique that may be new, and that's great - but they breeze through it to another technique and when you are in the stretch, keeping that core tight trying to do a modified plank twist or whatever it's called, the initial visual is out the window. Now with Kiana, this is where her instructions shine! Minute details verbally repeated over and over, her constantly coming in to monitor your form, helping make slight adjustments with a gentle nudge, then crawling back down in front of class to quickly review the next position - it was perfect! I felt every ache, every twitch and spasm as her words of encouragement pushed me to go deeper, pushing myself for that extra repetition. Thank you Kiana, I truly now feel I made the right decision joining Archetype and bless you for your patience and care in making sure we were each giving our best during your class with your words of encouragement! I hope you make your way over to Pasadena more often than just the evenings for for other forms of yoga too and to the management at Archetype Pasadena.... I absolutely adore Archetype Yoga! I've been a part of the community for the last two years, and I've grown so much in my practice with the help of incredible instructors like Sara and Mei-Ling. There is a sense of welcome and open-ness at this boutique studio that you can't find in the big-box commercial yoga studios. The instructors take the time to give hands-on adjustments (with consent) and provide modifications that make the poses accessible to all bodies. Archetype practices katonah yoga, which is an incredible framework that I hadn't heard of before, but makes a lot of sense with the mind-body connection. I also love the kindness and energy of the other yogis that attend class: everyone from the staff to the customers have a positive, growth-minded, and supportive attitude that is truly rare to find. I took my first yoga class here and it was a great experience! The studio felt pretty spacious, and even though it's located in a really busy part of Pasadena it was super quiet and peaceful inside. There were plenty of yoga mats, sandbags and blocks. There was also water available for filling up a water bottle. The yoga instructor was really nice and helpful. The owners Sara and Jen were both in attendance. Sara and Mei-Ling taught us some yoga that facilitated a framework to help us attendees get connected to our projects. We embodied it from a physical standpoint and then worked it out through our own process on a more cognitive level. It was such a holistic experience. I left feeling so full and rejuvenated! Archetype Yoga is different than the corporate yoga I have taken in the past, in the best way. I usually do hot yoga because it helps my naturally non-limber muscles warm up faster. Katonah yoga is much more precise, intentional in movement and works your muscles in a way that is individual to you. There is no pressure to be at the "fullest expression" of a pose. I also didn't feel like I needed to be in 99° heat to feel the benefits! Archetype Yoga takes every opportunity is to make you feel comfortable, at ease, and you learn why you are feeling what you are feeling in the poses! I didn't sweat much during class (remember, I'm used to hot yoga) but man, I felt it in my muscles the next day. I wasn't overly sore but I could feel the muscles I hadn't worked on as much!
