I had such a great experience at Hot Yoga Pasadena. I recently attended the Mobility Flow Pop-Up with Val, and it was incredibly humbling in the best way. I didn't realize how much my body truly needed that kind of movement, stretch and attention until I took this class today. The mobility class wasn't as hot as I thought it would be, but I definitely did leave drenched as I had to really challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. My wife and our best friends had been recommending this studio to me for a while since they come regularly for Hot Pilates with Val, Miranda, and Nati and now I completely understand why. The instructors are amazing, and the overall vibe is just so positive and energizing. I especially love how bubbly, funny, and interactive Val is with her students. It makes such a huge difference. I've done yoga classes before, and that level of connection and personality really elevates the experience. The studio itself is spotless, super welcoming, and honestly smells really nice, which makes a big difference in a hot studio setting. The energy in the room is awesome and it feels motivating without being intimidating. It's also in a great location, which makes it easy to keep coming back. She is such a gentle person but still makes you work hard. I had a great time. She helped me with working around my wrist injury but also suggested I try a modification. I am familiar with Bikram Yoga, I've been doing it on and off for the last few years. Been reconsidering committing again and wanted to try another studio before deciding if my former studio would be considered my "home" studio. I purchased an unlimited intro month off of the MindBody app and was able to come for about two weeks (and then got into a car accident and had to stop). This studio offers Bikram, Express, and Sculpt. Bikram: If you haven't done Bikram before, it's 26 poses done twice within the 90 minutes with a standing and floor series. Express: The same 26 poses condensed to fit in 60 minutes. Poses are only done once, some twice. I really appreciated this class on the weekdays because it was what worked best with my work schedule. I always hated getting out of class late and this was a happy medium for me; I'd get to workout and I wouldn't be getting home too terribly late. This class option is also really great if you're a beginner or if it's been a while since you've last practiced and need to pace yourself back into the routine. Sculpt: If you do not like burpees, planks, or anything that requires strength, don't come lol. Honestly this class was a lot of fun with the high energy/intensity and music playing but I don't usually prefer these types of classes. Definitely give it a try though! Locker Room: There are little tiny lockers you can store your personal belongings in, you'll just have to bring your own lock. There are also two showers meant for "quick 3 minute rinses". Take advantage of this if you can! Parking: FREE parking on the street and in their parking lot. read more

Great studio, run by great people. LOVE the 90 minute classes with Val or Jeff. Haven't taken a class with any other instructors. I feel like I experience little deaths and rebirths during each class. Sometimes when I'm exhausted coming into class, I do better than expected and sometimes when I'm feeling good coming into class, it ends up challenging me far more than expected. I suppose that's the ebb & flow of life as a whole. I LOVE THAT THERE IS NO MUSIC DURING THE CLASS. I usually get injured during non-heated yoga but I never have during heated yoga and their classes are more on the traditional side, compared to, let's say, CorePower, which I've enjoyed as well. read more

They have the rudest attitude I've ever seen and they can change your purchase history any time they want. Is a dishonest and irresponsible business operator. I was bought a never expire 10 lessons from them. Their online system shows I still have 8 lessons left and the lessons are expire by 2025, so I decided to use one of my lessons after a long while of pandemic. And then the owner told me I have to used all the NEVER EXPIRE lesson before 2021 even their system shows my lessons expire by 2025 . The most ridiculous part was the owner use her bad attitude to told me that, yes, she forgot to change the expiration date until I book the lesson, and yes, she don't even remember she did sell the never expire package before, and yes, she already changed their system and deleted all my lessons without inform . WHAT THE F!! You know what, Val Sklar Robinson, the person like me who have been forgotten from you and your system which was never received any extensive correspondence from you neither from email or text message.Thank you for letting me know how disgusting your business are, and best wishes to you! read more

The owner of this studio is a racist and just a rude person in general. I practiced at this studio for at least 10 years and have watched her treat other clients disrespectfully, talk about other clients behind their back and have experienced her racist behavior. I am a Black Jewish woman and she approached me in front of other students wanting to know why I thought I was Jewish (I was wearing a Star of David) and I told her for the same reason her daughters were Jewish! I finally had to leave because her behavior just kept getting worse. This studio was definitely not a safe space for me. read more

UNDERSTAFFED, RIDGED, OUTDATED, AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE First, I was reprimanded for being THREE minutes late to a class I dove 20 minutes to get to, and have never taken. I was a new student and did not have time to read the lengthy studio policies about checking in or the owner's LOOONG EMAIL about policies. I was also denied entry as well, and scolded for even knocking on the door. This is after I had got a sitter, and was looking forward to the ONLY one YIN class they offer a week. The rest is all Bikram. Second, it is Bikram not a hot yoga studio. Don't be fooled by the title. I love hot yoga, but can't do some of the 26 postures due to a herniated disk, and low back injuries. When I tried to modify the instructor told me bending backwards was good for low back problems, and to do it her way. Says NO doctor ever??? I asked for my money back. Too strict for something that should be enjoyable. There are other hot studios that offer the 26 postures as well as classes that are better for injured people. The owner said, "they are not a good fit for me. Yes, I guess not... if you don't want treat a workout class like a job, or religion. My bad. read more

I love coming here in the mornings although it's always a struggle to get out of bed. It's a great work out that will leave you feeling very refreshed! The studio has plenty of parking around the area and a private lot in the back. They offer showers and changing room with lockers. There are also shelves for you to store your personal belongings next to the classroom. I've taken classes by Michael, Roxanne, Jesse, and Val the owner. I enjoyed every class here! As a retired dancer, I really appreciate the way they teach. All the instructors are very knowledgeable about yoga and Pilates. They understand how to break down the moves with words and the classrooms feel more interactive because they get to know you. You can sense that responsibility and energy throughout the staff. *First timers tips: -Their hot yoga rooms are set to 105 degrees. I nearly passed out during my first class. This is definitely a class that you need to ease into. Try their 90 min hot yoga class or hot sculpt class which focuses on quick isolated movements and is more intense but less hot. - Arrive at least 15-20 min early to find parking and to reserve a spot in the classroom - Stretch before class - Avoid makeup as you'll be sweating and it's bad for your pores - Hairband to avoid your sweaty hair from sticking everywhere - Bath towel/ yoga towel (this is used for placing directly on top of your yoga mat during class to catch the sweat) - Smaller towel for wiping off your sweat - Thermo bottles to keep your water cool or bottled water - No shoes or socks in class - Don't be late or you will be locked out read more

Hot Yoga Pasadena is one of those places that grows on you. I had done a couple of other hot yoga classes at other studios before but never traditional Bikram and never in a room this sweltering. I bought into the $49 unlimited for the first month before ever taking a class because I figured it would be similar to most other yoga studios I had visited. Had I not purchased the unlimited month, I would have probably written HYP off after the first class, as it definitely takes some getting used to. Here's the thing...it's beyond hot. Imagine the hottest you've ever been and then multiple it by 6. It's sweaty. As in, the minute you walk in your body starts to produce beads of sweat from every possible gland. And, it smells. Combine the two previous things and it can't be helped. Even if everyone in there were the cleanest, freshest human beings on the planet, that room would still smell...it's just the nature of the beast. Once you go a few times, it hits you in the face/nose less and then eventually not at all. There's absolutely no pretension at this studio. You may care about what you look like at other places, but there's no athleisure OOTD here. No one is tryin'a look cute. You're basically as naked as you can possibly be without offending anyone, and to be honest, no one cares about you anyway. Everyone is in there for him or her self. It's kind of a refreshing change of pace. If you're looking for consistency, then this place is it. It's the same 26-ish moves. You either go through the routine in 60 minutes or you double up the moves for the 90 minute session. (They do also have a sculpt class one day a week that is nice for those of us appreciate a little cardio.) There's one bathroom for each sex and a changing room a couple more stand alone restrooms. The ladies' restroom has one huge stall for the toilet and two showers. It gets cramped in there but everyone respects the 2-3 minute shower limit so you can get in and get out after a class pretty quickly even if there's a huge line of people waiting to shower, as well. The $49 for a month unlimited was $49 well spent. read more

I attended my first class at Hot Yoga Pasadena, since we moved into the area and it's a convenient 5 minutes from my home. I didn't register online, and filled out registration for the 2 week new student special ($39 I believe). Tammy at the front desk was very nice and made me feel welcome, which I greatly appreciated. Jerry (the instructor) also welcomes me at the front desk and asked if I'd ever practiced hot yoga and made a little small talk. I'd give them a 5 star for making me feel welcome as the studio staff. I left my bag with my keys and wallet in one of the free cubbies that are located right outside the studio. I purposely chose a top row cubby for my things. When I entered the large studio the first thing that hit me was the smell of moisture and possibly moldy. It was a really challenging smell to get comfortable with. It only took me a second to understand where the smell was coming from: the studio is completely carpeted. This was really surprising to me considering how much sweat (gallons and gallons) students expel over the course of days, weeks and months. It is 100% impossible to keep your sweat solely on your mat. Certain poses force you to sweat on the carpet. Honestly, it was gross. With only one studio space why wouldn't they replace with a safer,healthier floor option? The actual class was good, I enjoyed Jerry's direction and attention. There were many inside jokes with other yogis, which was fine, I was there for my practice. When I completed the class I exited and went straight to the cubby where I'd left my bag only to find it gone! My heart began to race until I spotted it tucked in a lower cubby. I noticed that the cubby that I had originally chosen had men's sandals in them. So, someone decided I was in "their" cubby and touched my things. It was so off putting and annoying. I grabbed my things and left. This was the first and only time I attended. The smell of the studio and the moving of my personal belongings were enough to keep me away. I did get a text and a call after my class, I let the staff know my experience and they apologized for my things being moved. They said they'd check their cameras if it happened again, but they could have checked the first time, although I suspect it's one of their studio regulars. read more

"WHY DID YOU LIE TO MY STAFF," she says to me. "You and your son were students back in 2016. Are you confused or did you forget?" These statements were made by the owner who goes by the name, "Val." What ensued was an aggressive conversation that ventured between harassment and a demand for a response to my actions.   I don't write too many reviews on Yelp. Like many people, it was a negative experience that triggered it, because I felt like I had to do something. In this particular case, it is about the fact that I did not get a chance to respond to her crude behavior. But before I delve into the demeanor of this person I would like to address why I "lied" and about what transpired at the time I purchased the "Introductory Package" via her website:   1)       Her proven detective skills were on point. My son and I were students of her back in 2016 when the business went by "Bikram Yoga Pasadena." At the present moment it is called, "Hot Yoga Pasadena." I work in contracts for over 20 years and when a business changes name it is considered a totally different entity. How was I supposed to know this is the same company owned by the same owner? 2)      The system she claims kept impeccable accounts of everyone that walked into her studio. The same impeccable system allowed me to make the purchase without letting me know that my purchase is not valid because it is only for first time students. What happened after is what I believe to be a "bait and switch." I was allowed to take the class and was told afterwards I would be charged for a "Single Class Price" of $25 each ($50 for me and my son). 3)      As you can see from the advertisement I pulled from the web site, (independent of any of her other pages on her website) it clearly states, "Introductory 2 Weeks Your First 14 Days of Unlimited Yoga, $39.00." It is indicative of any advertisement to make note the small fine print of requirements. There was nothing on that page to suggest it is only for "First Time Students." You'd have to go to the 'home page' to see the fine print.   Seeing that there have been several cases in the past where owners have harassed yelp reviewers for writing negative reviews,  I want to warn the owner, "Val,"  that if she or her staff contacts me again for any reason - I will go to the authorities. I am taking a huge risk in writing this review because the owner (and most likely her staff) has my personal information (i.e. home address, phone number, debit card info, etc.). I want to exercise my freedom of speech and therefore am stating, to the best of my knowledge, only the facts. read more

I've been practicing Bikram Yoga at Hot Yoga Pasadena regularly for a about 13 months now and I can't think of any negative things to say about this studio! It is equipped with clean showers and multiple restrooms. In the beginning, I had a hard time getting used to the smell of sweat in the hot yoga room full of people, but it no longer bothers me. It's just something that you have to get used to if you want to practice hot yoga anywhere. I love my regular instructors (since they pay attention to details and try to push me beyond my limits), but I have never had a bad instructor here. All of them are really encouraging, knowledgeable, and friendly. Practicing Bikram Yoga has transformed my life in different ways, both physically and emotionally. Prior to this practice, weekly chiropractic sessions and daily pain medications were not able to completely eliminate the upper back and neck pain that I experienced from long hours of standing (required by my job). I am happy to say that the tension on my neck and shoulders have been significantly reduced (from 6 to 1 on a scale of 1-10) since I started my regular Bikram Yoga practice and I no longer need to visit my chiropractor or my daily pain medications! I'm not going to lie and say that I am totally pain free. In fact, I often feel sore all over my body after 90 minutes of stretching and toning in the hot and humid room, but as the saying goes, "no pain, no gain!" I've tried other methods of weigh loss after having two kids, but couldn't really maintain them. Bikram Yoga has somehow guided me to a healthier life style (with more water and vegetable and less caffeine consumption and eating smaller but more frequent meals). I find that on days that I don't drink enough water or did not eat well, it is harder for me to complete my yoga practice. However, no matter how terrible I feel during the practice, I always enjoy the rush of endorphines after each yoga session. A year of religious Bikram Yoga practice has resulted in a 10-pound weight loss and the decrease in one dress size! Getting started was the hardest step, especially with getting my body used to the heat and the smell of sweat. I'm glad I got over those hurdles and feel very thankful for Hot Yoga Pasadena in providing a clean facility and amazing instructors to help me in this positive self transformation! read more

This place will kick your butt. I'm not even joking. I've never been worked so hard in my life, and I consider myself pretty active (working out 6 days a week). It was my first time here, and you are automatically greeted with intimidation (You can feel the heat from the next room). Right now they have an introductory one month membership for 39 dollars. A tip: bring your own big towel, a yoga mat, water, and wear swim clothes! Once in the actual classroom, you sweat like no other. I've never sweated so much in my life! It is 90 minutes of non-stop poses. It definitely takes a lot of dedication, stamina, and hard work to do this. It will push you to your limits and test your mentality. I felt like fainting. I was out of breath, dizzy, when all was said and done. And in the end, the feeling was amazing. No matter how messed up you feel, you can not help but feel a sense of accomplishment. I have known Val for years and have enjoyed practicing at her studio. For the past 18 months the studio has been my life line through COVID. Val is 100% committed to her community and passionate about her business. She is one of the most ethical and direct people that I know. It has been her top priority to keep her community safe, healthy, and able to practice yoga. She has always been honest and transparent about what she was able to offer all of us through shutdowns and the policies to attend live classes in the studio. I am disheartened to see the negative review over the COVID incident. I was not in attendance at that class therefore I didn't receive any of the emails or calls - I do not have first hand knowledge. That said I feel that there were many points where the communication could could have been better. I do hope the woman has a complete recovery. And, I hope that the health department misrepresented the situation in reporting that she had systems at the time of the class - which definitely had an impact on how everything progressed. I am certain that this is an isolated incident and that the overwhelming majority of members support and respect Val. We are thankful for her passion, and perseverance to keep the business going through these challenging times. And above all her genuine comment in each and everyone one of us personally, giving of herself on even her lowest days to keep us motivated and connected. The first time I tried, after 4 poses I just laid there half dead. After a few classes of course, the body's resilience helps you get use to almost anything! Every class is the same, just beginners in the back, experts in the front. There are good and bad classes for everyone. I've yet to still go through an entire class doing every single pose. I really just like the sweating and how fast your heart rushes if you actually listen and follow what the instructors say. I think weightloss is more about diet, but Bikram will definitely help you along (esp making you so strung out and possibly nauseous you never want to eat again :D) Bikram is like a distraction sauna, you're forced to be in a hot room (many benefits) for 90 mins and to pass the time they make you stretch. Where else will you find yourself in such a similar situation. Expect to be sore and have glowing radiant skin afterwards. It's things like this, where you push yourself to suffering/dying, that makes you feel so alive when you go back out into the normal world. This is the only Bikram studio I've been to. Arriving earlier, bringing a big towel and little towel and mat and ice cold water is a must. However you can always pay to rent/buy/borrow from them too (but your own towel is most impt). The room heat does vary from instructor to instructor, class to class. And each instructor has their own style. My favorite thing about this place is, IT'S NEXT TO AN ALL YOU CAN EAT KOREAN BBQ RESTAURANT! (Gaon). How funny, cooking beef on one side, cooking humans on the other. Yes, the place smells...and some times you realize, it's because of you! The secret is to breath and take it slow. I always almost faint at every class but then I just sit still and no one will bother you. Drinking water between poses is not that bad. Go to the bathroom before the class as it's hard to do during. Don't force yourself to do anything you don't like or feel bad doing. If it's not for you, don't do it. My favorite teacher so far is the rare Tom Provost. He has really calm energy and really explains to you what you're doing and how to do it correctly. All the other teachers I've had so far are pretty good too, varying levels of pushing you, but Tom is the best if you can get him. I'm slowly starting to realize I learn a little every class if the teacher remembers to explain to you why you're doing what you're doing. Since every class is the same, they really can't just remember and repeat it all the time so just keep going and pretty soon you'll remember and realize why you do every move and how to do it correctly. Come as much as you want. I only go 1-2 times/week, the most I can handle. They have different rates/packages for everyone. read more

Positives. A few truly great instructors. Not even kidding. Jeff is probably the single greatest living Bikram instructor in the world. I wish he would write a book, or put out a video series. His whole brain is Gold. He's amazing. There's also Brooke. And they have a few others, who are incredible. Anastasia. I appreciate them. The price is ok. The parking is ok. The schedule is wonderful. Even the addition of shorter classes, and a few other classes, I have no problem with at all! I can accept it. The heat when it works well is great. And make no mistake. Bikram yoga is very powerful. Doubtless, one of the top 10 healing modalities of all time. The combination of the moving meditation, the heat, the spinal based asanas are deep deep magic. People have miracle cures here. Skin glows, people change. It's what keeps me going back to this modality. The yoga itself, is great. Try and remember that. You get huge rewards for the pain and sweat. If you work hard, and try, you will heal. Which is probably how this yoga has done so well. (See; The book "Hell-Bent" by Benjamin Lorr ...reassuring and eye opening.) There's also many negatives. Bikram's picture (and name) should not be up in this studio. He shouldn't be talked about in the sing songy guru way in a class ever again. To the Corn Field! The scandal surrounding him was sickening. It's business. If Bikram was dropped from the name, please make this transition complete. Take down the big sign and the picture. Even the script, should be changed. It's not clean. It does smell. Really bad. And it is getting worse. I would go home and be nearly unable to get the smell off my clothes and mat. With all the new Hot Yoga studios cropping up in Pasadena that have faux or hard wood floors and heat that truly always works, I cannot believe I am reading replies about how it doesn't smell and the carpet is antimicrobial superman repellent. Come on now. Anyone with a working nose attached to a brain knows it reeks in here and it doesn't have to. I have no clue why this place doesn't have hard wood sealed cleanable floors yet. The nasty notes left around. I can full on do with not seeing those again. The asking for and rewarding 5 star reviews on Yelp is off putting. If there are unpleasant phone conversations that need to happen, close the door of the office and do it when none of the students are there. One of my favorite things about this place is the free and hassle-free parking. Membership isn't cheap, but the results are priceless. I haven't felt this strong in all my life of working out. I love the instructors here especially Nafisa.She is strict yet keeps the practice fun and she is hilarious. Val, the owner, is very caring as well. I love Bikram because it changes you from the inside out. Yes, sometimes I want to scream and cry because it's a strict, strenuous practice that really challenges your mind but at the end of the workout, you feel so great! I love how every day is a different challenge and everyday it's a different practice. Many factors can challenge your workout including lack of sleep, too much coffee, a lot on your mind etc. It really forces me to listen to my body. Especially after a weekend of drinking/partying, going to Bikram on Monday, your body will definitely tell you! I love that about it and hate that about it. It definitely keeps me in check. This studio is currently under renovation on the other side. They bought the property next door too! I used to go to Bikram yoga in DTLA years ago and I could not visit any studio after all the allegations of Bikram came out. I did not know if the name change for this location was simply for marketing purposes but I saw in the documentary that you cut ties with Bikram and I am assured that this studio is doing the right thing.
