The best setting for yoga with one of the most compassionate yogis around!
    Thomas E.

I began attending classes at The Root Cause Yoga back in fall 2021. I had just moved back to SoCal to start a new chapter in life, and was looking to get healthy and grounded. Kathy, was the first person I met who helped guide me to the best shape I've ever been in. (See my reviews for 7Elements of Balance and Ganbatte fitness for the rest of my "team") I had very little yoga experience previously, but Kathy is great about tailoring her classes to each individual's needs. Not only that, she'll remember the specifics, so even if you have been away for awhile, she will know where to pick things up again. Aside from being a super-attentive, caring, hands on, and hands down knowledgable yogi, she also genuinely cares about people and her local community. She often teaches yoga classes and seminars at various community events, and when the weather is nice, even organizes monthly potlucks for us. Attending one of Kathy's classes outdoors in Garfield Park is therapeutic in and of itself. The sun, fresh air, sounds of the trees... and doggies! (We share the park with our four-legged friend after all, and they help bring great energy as well) Once in awhile, Kathy will integrate sound bowls into the session which, in this nurturing setting, brings the experience to a whole other level. I highly recommend The Root Cause Yoga to all!

Kathy is a great yoga teacher and also a great person. I've been going to yoga classes with Kathy for about 2 years now and I really recommend her. One of the things that I like about her classes is her calming voice. She also has a sweet dog, Marley, who I see in her classes.

    Picnic after class.

Nothing beats the intelligence of the Iyengar system, imho! I will say that Paul has a unique way of balancing his precise knowledge with a very spacious accommodation, which is TRULY the art of an engaged teacher. However, there are other instructors here (I won't name names) that unfortunately trigger my sympathetic nervous system with their tone, and overuse of the word "should." As much as I try to get past this, my breath and body just become tight, and I don't move as freely with overly managed instruction. Yoga House could be one of the last studios on the Eastside that uphold the integrity of a yogic learning environment. As a yogi of 25 years, and an instructor myself, I recommend the Iyengar classes to anyone working to heal injuries and those who want to deepen their practice. It's not a miracle, but a more serious approach to yoga can be transformative, on many levels.

I recently attended the class for people with mobility challenges, led by the incredible Peggy, and it was truly a transformative experience. As someone living with Lupus and Muscular Dystrophy, finding a movement space where I feel safe, seen, and supported has been a long journey. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed--not just by the staff, but by the beautiful community that gathers here. There's a genuine warmth in the room that you can feel, and Peggy's presence and guidance made all the difference. She was patient, attentive, and so compassionate, offering helpful adjustments and making sure each student felt comfortable and included. The studio is clean, calm, and absolutely beautiful. They offer plenty of props to support your practice, and the meditation beginning and at the end of class was the perfect way to wind down and reconnect with myself. It's rare to find a space that honors both your limitations and your potential--but Pasadena Yoga House does just that. If you're looking for a welcoming, inclusive, and healing space to move, breathe, and just be--you've found it. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone, especially those with mobility challenges or chronic conditions. I left feeling lighter, supported, and truly at home.

Now that I'm healed, I was thinking about going back to Corepower but the algorithm must have seen me browsing yoga studios and an ad for this place popped up on my Instagram for a $36 for 3 classes intro deal. I was a bit weary of my card automatically getting billed for a membership once my three classes ended, so I called the studio and spoke to Kelsey (She's the daytime studio manager I think) who assured me that there's no catch, I can take the three classes for $36 and decide from there if I want to buy a membership or not. She was super friendly and helpful, she asked me what I was looking for and helped recommend me which classes might be good for me. My first class I took Dahhee's mobility class which I enjoyed. While it definitely feels like yoga, it's not a traditional yoga flow class where you're doing chaturangas and sun salutations between each sequence but a mix of yoga, stretching, and strength building. The second class I took was Kyle's slow flow class. This was more similar to classes I've taken in the past at other studios and I really loved that Kyle integrated her playlist with the movement. The studio is also very welcoming, the first class I went to was an evening class and the evening studio manager Karisma greeted me and helped me check in, while the second time I went during the day and Kelsey was there. There's free combination code lockers in the locker room which is really nice, you don't have to bring your own lock. Parking is fairly easy, they don't have their own lot but there's free street parking on their street. Both times I found street parking right on their street, though they also validate meter parking as the free section is limited. You should give yourself some time to walk over in case you have to park up the street. The two cons I have are: 1) No showers 2) The classes are only warm not hot. I asked Kelsey and she said both classes I took they heat the room to 90 degrees. As someone who's always cold, 90 degrees I'm barely breaking a sweat. The no showers thing actually didn't matter too much because I wasn't drenched in sweat like I usually am after hot yoga. Next week I plan to take the "Power flow" class which I'm told is hotter and also more difficult, so I'm looking forward to it.

Unfortunately I had a very upsetting experience recently at the Pasadena studio. I attended class and parked in the structure the studio directs customers to use for "free parking." During class (which was a short 45 minute strength class), my car was towed and it cost me $533 and a lot of stress to retrieve it. What was most frustrating is that no one verbally informed me that vehicle registration was required every time we attend class. It was not mentioned when I checked in and was not mentioned by the teacher at the beginning of class. After the incident, the studio manager acknowledged that this has happened to many customers and even instructors before, which suggests this is an ongoing known problem. The towing company used by the building, Metro Towing, is a known predatory towing company with an extremely poor reputation. They have been the subject of numerous complaints and the Better Business Bureau currently gives them an F rating. https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/los-angeles/profile/towing-company/metro-towing-inc-1216-100105615 I later contacted CorePower Yoga customer service hoping they would help resolve the situation in a reasonable way. I asked whether they would reimburse the towing charge or provide class credit as a goodwill gesture or even contact the building/property management regarding whether there was tow authorization documentation that the towing company refused to provide me. They declined to do any of those things and said that there is signage at the studio directing customers to register their cars with the front desk every time we come to class. I understand businesses may have parking policies, but when customers are routinely being towed from the "free" parking lot a studio recommends, there should be very clear emails beforehand and verbal communication at check-in and at the start of class -- not just signage or buried instructions online. I genuinely loved my practice with Core Power which makes this experience especially disappointing - the whole thing left such a bad taste that I have switched yoga studios and will no longer be practicing with Core Power.
