As the saying goes on Yelp: "I'd give zero stars if I could." Over two weeks ago, Arch Plumbing employees working on an emergency job down the street in an unrelated building (a detail I learned later) blocked my apartment building's driveway for an extended period of time, with no note or cell number displayed. Just a big work truck blocking our garage with us having no way of knowing where they were or how long they would be. These Arch Plumbing employees felt it was appropriate to block in random strangers up the block and leave us with no remedy other than a tow. Despite not having received an ounce of consideration from Arch Plumbing or its workers, my apartment manager and I still attempted multiple times to reach someone before resorting to towing. It was a complete waste of effort, though. I called the company number on the side of the truck twice. My manager called once. Each time, we reached Arch Plumbing's answering service. Each time, Arch Plumbing's answering service let us know that our issue would be handled the following business day UNLESS WE WERE WILLING TO PAY $250 FOR EMERGENCY SERVICE. Yes, you read that right. Arch Plumbing was blocking our completely unrelated garage while earning emergency rates nearby, yet *WE* would also have to pay an emergency fee in order to reach anyone. We clearly and repeatedly explained on each call to Arch Plumbing's answering service that it was in the best interest of their client to escalate to someone who could get the truck moved so that we wouldn't have to tow it. Yet on each of these calls the answering service essentially refused to escalate unless we were willing to pay the $250 emergency service fee. At least 20 minutes into being blocked THAT WE WERE AWARE OF - and even after I finally called 311 for a tow - I was Googling and calling every other Arch Plumbing number I could find online in order to avoid towing their truck. I even stood in the street and called out, hoping the workers would hear. Funny thing, they were close enough that the keys in their pocket were activating the truck lights but apparently they could not hear me calling out loudly. Arch Plumbing simply does not care about being reached after hours. It does not empower its answering service to contact anyone there unless the caller is willing to pay the $250 emergency fee, EVEN WHEN ARCH PLUMBING IS AT FAULT. And they apparently condone their workers blocking unrelated driveways for extended periods of time without permission and without displaying a reachable number. Adding insult to injury, Arch Plumbing's answering service - even after being fully apprised of the situation - felt it was appropriate to insist on personal information beyond my first name, location, and cell number. Why do they need my unit number? My email address? My last name? The operators had zero sense of urgency or contextual awareness, insisted on filling fields on their computer screen even as I repeatedly explained that I was not a customer but an unrelated party being impacted by Arch Plumbing. I simply needed someone at Arch Plumbing to remove their work truck or I would be forced to tow. Why would they need my unit number, my email address, and my last name? So aggravatingly intrusive and tone deaf. Eventually - 40 minutes later THAT WE WERE AWARE OF - the workers returned to the truck and gave perfunctory apologies for making Arch Plumbing's business our problem (this is when I found out that they were working on a job down the hill). There were two of them but neither could be bothered to periodically check on the driveway they had arbitrarily blocked? "It was an emergency!" Then double park. Or one of you stay in the truck. Or even just CHECK every 10 minutes. The solution of making it as easy as possible for yourselves while imposing on others is thoughtless at best and mind-bogglingly entitled at worst. It grates even more that nobody from Arch Plumbing has felt compelled in the last few weeks to at least call back to apologize. Just a week before all this happened, I had to take my kid to the emergency room twice in a matter of days. If this had happened then, this would be more than a Yelp review. Makes me wonder how they treat their customers once they have their money and something goes wrong that's not the customer's fault. "We can have somone return your call if you pay $250." Arch continues to service our building's boiler and plumbing systems. Across 10+ appointments/jobs and several years, they always do an a great job and are my go-to for all plumbing issues. Few things to highlight: -Pricing is always very competitive and the work is excellent. When they identify a problem they fix it on the first trip out here. -Techs call in advance of showing up and give ETAs. -They send detailed invoices + pictures of the work they did so HOAs can follow along. I used Arch Plumbing for the first time a week ago to fix a leaky shower. Booking an appointment was quick and easy (a real person on the phone) and they came out the very next day. Gerson was my plumbing technician. He was extremely professional, was very familiar with the problem (a failed fixture causing a leak behind the shower tile) and what it would take to fix it. He explained exactly what he would need to do, gave me my options and a solid estimate of the cost, pretty much within the range of what I was expecting. Although the job ended up taking longer than he'd estimated, he didn't charge more than estimated. He was thorough, cleaned up after, and told me he would bring a new shower head for me as he wasn't happy with the water pressure from the one he had installed. As promised, he replaced the shower head a few days later. I called Arch the next week for a toilet problem. Gerson came again, assessed and fixed the problem very quickly (replacing a failed valve in the tank). Cost was next to nothing. Great service at a fair cost. We've had Alex help us with a host of issues with our radiators and recently he helped cap the old gas lines that led to light fixtures throughout the house (our house is old!). He quickly identified the T in the pipes that likely led to the fixtures, confirmed it and set about turning off the gas and capping the pipes. Then, he removed/sawed off any protruding pipe stubs from the ceiling so that we could install our new fixtures. Our ceilings are lath and plaster and I'm really appreciate that Alex did his work carefully and prevented the plaster from cracking. He also worked with extra caution around our medallions. The five stars are for "Mo," the plumber who took about two minutes to de-clog a toilet with which I'd been doing battle (fruitlessly) for three hours. I'd been petrified that the problem was much bigger and would prove to be much more expensive than I was able to pay. Mo was an angel. As for Arch Plumbing itself, I've got misgivings about how the company goes about assessing charges for jobs, and I don't know how much of the money it collects goes to its employees. I'd like to think that Mo is appropriately well compensated for his work, but I'm not sure of that. read more

I bought a new countertop dishwasher recently and was having trouble installing it. I reached out to Arch Plumbing and they scheduled an appointment the next day -- the other people I had reached out to about this on Yelp didn't get back to me or said they weren't interested in working on a countertop dishwasher. Ryan came out to check on what was going on and quickly identified that the dishwasher had a broken pump and that there wasn't anything wrong with the installation. I hired Arch to fix a botched plumbing job (bathroom sink fixture installation) by another company. I'd gotten an estimate from another plumber, who quoted me what I felt to be too high a price. That plumber didn't really take the time to investigate what the problem might be, just said it could be a really time consuming job. Carlos showed up and his attitude was totally different from the 2 previous plumbers - he was actually upbeat and friendly and didn't complain about how hard the job was, like the other 2 did. He actually took the time to investigate the source of the problem, and then explained the possibilities and my options in a way that felt completely transparent and also easy to understand. From the way he talked about it, I felt confidence that this guy knows what he's doing. We'd agreed that I'd go back to the original plumber and have them fix their mistakes (and Carlos wouldn't charge me for giving his assessment), when he decided to have one last look. He identified something that could be causing the problem and was able to fix it, and also finished work left untouched by the OG plumber. I was super happy with the outcome and that I didn't have to go back to the first plumber. Carlos mentioned that he enjoys doing plumbing work and it shows in both his knowledge and attitude. When a service professional explains the causes of a problem and your options for fixing it, your confidence in that assessment depends not only on the words being said but also the attitude of the pro. Arch Plumbing was the plumbing sub on bathroom remodels in my house. horrible does not being to describe their work and the experience. I had the same shower fixtures installed in the two bathrooms that they worked on and they screwed up on one and then, later, on the other - same screw up twice, both of which required them to tear into the walls backing the shower fixtures adding time, mess and expense to the project. one of the fixtures is still not correctly installed. they also screwed up on one of the vents to my roof, failing to property secure it in the wall and not making it long enough - what the GC referred to as an "Arch special." They also left a test plug in the main sewer line in the garage so that the line backed up into the upstairs shower. The large RED plum should have been a clue, but nope. There were various leaks in the copper pipes they installed, eventually fixed after my complaints. they also made aggressive cuts into the joists located in the garage that support the house and did something to the main waterline such that it began to leak. their solution? turn down the valve so that it doesn't leak, but moans when the irrigation system engages. for purposes of transparency, this was in late 2022 - early 2023, from recent reviews, maybe they have improved, but I would still beware. read more
