3 Stars only because I haven't had an "issue", and it's solar, but it's not as great as it seems. First, as I've always known, they take the $$ due for your bill around 20 days ahead of the due date to the energy company. You do have an option to extend that 7 days each time, side note. My assumption is this gives them the opportunity to invest people's money into something, before anything is due. Secondly, we are no longer saving any "real" money. In recent time, the amount of solar we are allocated has shrunk significantly, and, you only save 10% on the solar portion of your bill. Our recent bill total was $274 (from RI Energy) and we saved just over $6. It came to about a 2.2% total savings. Obviously, they have to make money to be in business. So, I guess it's really about your desire to use solar, and how/why. read more

I echo the comments about this company being a scam. They double-billed me for a month of service, and take no responsibility and won't refund. The contract terms are totally one-sided: the customer has no rights. I want to close my account and they're saying it takes 90 days. Absurd. The savings were negligible -- an average of $4/month over 8 years of service -- no value add. And buying from them didn't even generate more clean energy. The wind and solar farms generate regardless and dump their power into the grid along with coal and nuclear. So I can't say my home ran on clean power. All I can say is a middle man made a markup on some renewal energy certificates which are probably meaningless. And double-billed me and made it really tough to cancel. The water /sewer company did not bill me and I was not aware. I had water and my garbage picked up regularly. I didn't know I wasn't paying - all my bills are direct withdrawal. Now I'm selling my home and they sent me a bill for $2300 for their not billing me for the past 2 years . I called and was told to speak to the city official. They were rude and not helpful. Why is this my fault? Their error and I have to pay this large amount. Not sure if it's even true. read more

This company was fine until it wasn't. I needed to change my payment method and wanted to track my payments online to see how much I'm paying and I wasn't allowed to do this -- I was told, "there's a glitch in the system" repeatedly by the rep and then by the company's escalation team. Once I threatened to shut down my account -- not an empty threat btw, I was just done with them at this point -- I had to ask repeatedly to do this. I understand trying to keep a customer's business but this was excessive to the point that the rep was just not listening to me. I finally proceeded with shutting the account down, and was told it's a 90-day process to make this happen. Never had an issue with Arcadia, however for some reason my provider, RI Energy, deeply discounted my bill for March & April. The result was that I overpaid them $100+... After years of entrusting Arcadia with my energy billing, I have found out that this establishment is fraudulent when it comes to integrity in billing. One month out of the blue my summer energy billing doubled from one month to the next. The caveat is that the entire summer, since March, my thermostat has been set for 78'. When I questioned Acadia on the sudden increase they did not have an idea at first. I called a second time and they made sup some stuff about back credits that they extended had been removed. I immediately had my account canceled because when I spoke to Pepco I had a credit balance of $2, not a bill for $389. Now they say it's $167. How did that happen if I never paid them for the $389. The math does not math up at all!!! Best to remain directly with Pepco so there is traceability to justify your energy usage. AVOID THIS SCAM!!!!! read more

It's okay, but absolutely do not give any of your information to this company. I cancelled my services with them during a move, only to suddenly get a surprise bill from them for my NEW address, months later. Any calls and discussions with customer support on why this occurred have been mostly sidestepped, with Arcadia promising to delete my account service (that I never sought to, or consented to, get in the first place). They can and will use your credit card details and energy information to continue getting themselves paid. Absolute scam! read more

I never signed up with these people but somehow I was connected to solar power! In NYS! Probably the most expensive kind of electricity you can buy since there is very little sun here , we are zone 5. Last summer my electric bill was tripled, no error, and nobody can help me understand why. They literally inflated our bills for 6 months. It appears my Arcadia program keeps getting blocked because I have 2 factor authentication on my BGE utility bill profile. I have been enrolled in Arcadia for a YEAR and have gotten NO BENEFIT from Arcadia yet because they can't keep my account verified for more than a day at a time. Total scam. they came knocking on my door selling me the dream bill without been honest and I just found out that paid $1681 for community solar in the last 4 and half months plus I just paid Pepco utilities another $600 it's outrageous. A young sales representative knocked on my door and my husband directed him to speak to me (sigh). First red flag: door-to-door salesmen are not going to save the consumer money. He started his script, showed me a laminated letter with the state of New Jersey letterhead that was devoid of any information In layman's terms-just a list of statutes. The script included hyperbolic claims that I would save 50% on my electric bill with solar farm "credits". He asked for my bill, I showed it to him. He informed me that I was eligible for the program. He enters my bill information into his tablet, sends me a link that would complete the enrollment. Here's where it gets interesting. I click on the terms and conditions to read them, and ask about 1) Arcadia billing me for credits (Arcadia pays PSEG and I repay Arcadia); 2) allowing this company to automatically debit my bank account; 3) agreeing to arbitration; 4) ambiguous cancellation policy. I asked the young man to explain these terms and he admitted that he has never read them. He also added that I am the "first" potential customer who has read the terms (highly unlikely as my township is pretty educated). My takeaway was that he was unable to secure his new client quota. Young Arcadia rep then summons back-up. He approaches my porch and I ask him the same questions. His response/ "Wow, I didn't know any of that. That sounds crazy!" Uh yeah... Needless to say, this company appears to be a scam. Homeowners do not need a middle man to secure credits for solar; purchase (not rent) panels and receive your SREC. read more

I tried to get behind this solar community idea. After being a customer for 6 years, I can confidently say I ended up losing money. After countless "issues with my solar farm" and being bounced from farm to farm with little to no benefits, I wanted to cancel, but still stayed since it was difficult to cancel, and they take control of your utility provider account (COMED in my case). Arcadia routinely charged me erroneously high bills higher than direct from COMED (some were exactly double my bill ) and refused to refund it. I spent many hours talking to them on the phone and via email, without any explanation or resolution. read more

I'm actually extremely concerned about the ethics and transparency of this company. I will be contacting BGE and the MD AG consumer protection division about my experiences. I signed up in 2021. At some point I started seeing extreme variations on my bill. Arcadia blamed BGE budget billing which BGE vehemently denied. I should've listened to BGE but was renovating a house and things stabilized for a bit so I assumed whatever it was worked itself right out. Again my bills started getting strange - this true even though I picked a different electric supplier (bracing for increases). I started wondering why Arcadia was still the one paying my BGE bill, why they were still in my bank account. I learned they weren't an energy supplier. Ok, fine. In that vein, they need to be separate from the BGE process to avoid confusion and I will be contacting BGE PR to that effect. I also learned they were charging me DOUBLE what I'm paying my supplier. So I'm paying a supplier AND community Solar which I was lead to believe would result in "savings". Complete fabrication and I'll provide receipts. Sure, you save something but you're also paying for Solar you're not using or being supplied! Egregious. Not actually sure why this is allowed to continue. I called and said 1) I asked you before and you lied about the pricing and blamed BGE; 2) the billing is not remotely transparent (like why the less I use, the more I pay?; and 3) I want a refund from at least July when I selected a different supplier but am somehow still paying for someone else's energy? They said I have to give them 90 days. Well, calculate that from when you started lying about the price variations and refund me at least $863.22. Absolute shame. I want to buy green energy. Predatory greenwashing scam that I feel stupid for signing up for. They charge you way more than you would be spending directly with your electric utility. Arcadia's marketing materials talk about them paying your electric bill with solar energy credits. What they don't tell you is they will be charging you a lot more for community solar energy, than you will otherwise be paying to your utility. Once I figured out what was happening, I attempted to understand from their customer service what was going on and the person rattled off a bunch of unintelligible numbers with no attempt to walk me through what they actually meant. If you want to pay more for solar energy, that's up to you. This was not mentioned in any of Arcadia's marketing materials and I would not have signed up if I knew that's what I was signing up for. I wish I could leave negative stars... the door to door rep was nice not pushy about anything but was absolutely not clear about what would be happening at all. Not only do I still get to pay my full electricity bill but this scam, fraud, absolutely flat out theft of "company" takes automatic payments from my account of 270-290 a month that puts me in the negative, I support my family of four by myself barely and this is such a slap in the face. When you call and cancel you are being told you will be cancelled out and you are all set with NO mention of a 90 cancellation period so the just keep charging you for 90 days for absolutely nothing- THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LEGITIMATELY PROVIDE NO SERVICE and when you try and cancel them they said pretty much f-ck you and keep taking your money. I waited almost 2 years for their promised "savings" and they never materialized. They told me they were waiting for my solar farm to get built. Now the farm is built. The first bill I got is for double my normal amount, but they tell me I'm getting "10% back" as a credit. Their explanation of billing is so comically opaque that it's impossible to understand, and their online explanation of charges is just the dollar amount, with no explanation at all of how much usage there is, what months it applies to, etc. They are just a 3rd party bill payer to Eversource. It does seem this bill might be for two months, but their explanation of how it all works is still so terrible I can't be sure. When I tried to cancel they told me I have to wait 180 days, even though I have been a customer for nearly 2 years. That is what really gets my goat, and what has convinced me they are a true scam company. No legitimate company would lock a customer into a 180 cancellation period. Absolutely awful company. I've filed a complaint with the Mass Attorney General and contacted a class action attorney based on the huge number of similar stories posted here on yelp. read more

I called National Grid directly, they explicitly told me that is a complete lie and that they use the fake 180 delay to provide time find a backup customer. I really wanted to like this company. Figuring out how to get community solar is kind of confusing, so I appreciate the idea of simplifying the process, but I've been very frustrated in dealing with the company. If you have another way of getting community solar, I recommend steering clear of Arcadia. I signed up almost 1.5 years ago. There was an issue with my account signing up, apparently because Arcadia can't easily navigate the 2 factor authentication required on my utility account. Arcadia communicated very poorly about this -- it took a decent amount of me tracking down customer service and so on to fix it. And I still am not part of a working solar farm. My account has said since last fall that I'm enrolled in a solar farm and that its launch is imminent, but the day it launches keeps getting pushed back. There has been little to no communication about why it's taking so long. I know there have been supply chain issues with solar panels and delays connecting to the grid, but it's frustrating that Arcadia has told me nothing and for over a year said "You'll see savings in a few months." read more

I share the ethical concerns expressed by others in these reviews. After years of being their customer, my bill for an account that's typically under $10/month suddenly ballooned to more than $13,000(!!!). Stunned, I called and spoke with a rep who shared my alarm and promised it would be looked into immediately. When no one called back, I called again and spoke with another rep who assured me they would escalate the case. Eventually, a supervisor called me and told me he'd approved my refund. Their systems, he admitted, had misread some customers' usage data for a couple of months, misplacing decimal points that resulted in orders-of-magnitude overcharges. This supervisor explained I was among a number of customers who were overcharged, but never fear because they've fixed it now. Oh, and sorry about the bill, he said, adding that it really was my responsibility to have identified and notified them of the problem before the auto-pay date. (For an account that's typically no more than $10, you'll excuse me if I don't watch this bill like a hawk every month.) He had absolutely zero remorse in admitting that while Arcadia is aware of the error in their billing system, and that they knew it had impacted customers for several weeks(!), they aren't proactively refunding the overcharges. "There's no way for our system to tell us who, exactly, was affected by this." Instead, the onus is on every overcharged customer to request a refund. So if I hadn't called to alert Arcadia about my bill, they would've gladly kept all the $$$$$$ they'd "accidentally" charged me. This supervisor, whose condescending "sorry, not sorry" attitude, was an apt public face for a company with very little regard for trusting customers. Absolutely predatory business. BGE offers a solar credit which takes a substantial chunk off your bill, usually $80-100 for my household, and they steal that money from you. My bills from arcadia were regularly substantially higher than BGE was charging while claiming to be "saving" pitiful amounts ($11 over 4 months....). I lose over $200 to this in just the past few months and the process to cancel this service is purposefully difficult and slow. This should be illegal. Horrible company with horrible customer service. They didn't charge me one month resulting in late fees from my energy company. The $5 credit they offered doesn't cover the cost of the late fees. Then they double billed me during Christmas causing a financial distress during a time when money is tight for families with children. When I went to cancel they told me it would take 90 days to do so. They told me it was a 30 day cancellation period during signup. Do not trust this company!!!! read more

So, I initially signed up for the "portable (solar) panel program" whereby I paid a set amount ($3,000 (for 10 panels at $300/each)) and I would receive the value of the electricity those 10 panels produced as a deduction to my electric bill for a 10 year period, with a guarantee that a minimum of $3,000 would be deducted from my electric bill during that 10 year period. Okay. All good, for a while. Then I received an email a few months ago that Arcadia was cancelling the portable panel program. I have emailed Arcadia numerous time, spoken with customer service reps, including supervisors, numerous times, and despite the promises to reimburse me the $1983 due to me on my "account" have not seen one dime of that money returned. I was approached by two sales reps with ComEd clipboards and Arcadia badges. They were knocking on the residences in our apartment building door to door. This should have been an immediate red flag, but in a moment of weakness, I decided to sign up with Arcadia, as they pitched it in the moment to seem less expensive than Clean Choice energy. Almost immediately after signing up, I discovered my ComEd login information had been hacked. I was luckily able to reset my email and password and unlink my bank account appropriately, but I am still on the alert, even after canceling my plan with them. Let me be blunt. These are scammers. Anytime someone wants you to respond urgently in this manner over the phone or door-to-door- or pitches something that sounds too good to be true, do not comply. I signed up, but was just put on a waiting list for a solar farm. Because I receive energy assistance through the Power On program, I was always overbilled, and the overbilled amount was sent to my energy company, so I consistently had a growing credit on my utility company account. I called and explained the problem twice, and e-mailed about it twice, but no one at customer service would work with me to straighten it out. read more

This is a no brained if you care about climate change. The unfortunate reality is that clean energy costs more than dirty energy right now, but unless you have a power bill that's unbelievably expensive, this is a very easy, reasonably priced way to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your carbon footprint. Fossil fuels are certainly more expensive than renewables if you account for the whole deal, they are also certainly more subsidized by your tax dollars, making them appear cheaper. Most electricity in the DMV area is natural gas and coal. Switching to Arcadia means your energy is wind and if you want to invest in it, solar. Don't make the change for savings or to get a couple of free light bulbs. Do it because it's a really easy way to reduce your carbon footprint and help direct investment into renewables. I do not appreciate predatory, fraudulent practices. A rep came to my door earlier this week claiming to be with Pepco and asking for my bill to check for the presence of a particular statement indicating that I was eligible for service updates. At NO point did he talk about switching suppliers, this being optional, or being a third party vender that is NOT employed by Pepco (and who has no right or need to see my bill unless I opt into services, which I did NOT do...firstly because I have no idea what services are actually being offered). He asked for my bill, name, phone number, email, and my Pepco account number - NOT okay. I do not care what Arcadia claims to provide, if this is their practice (non-consent, lying, and manipulation to gain access to personal information that affects my money), I want nothing to do with them. Luckily, I started getting a bad feeling and gave a fake email. The text I received asking to confirm enrollment revealed what I'd grown to suspect (that the entire interaction was BS) and I ended the conversation with the rep. I also declined the text, called Pepco so they can note that I refuse any third party suppliers (in case Arcadia continues the lying streak), and am on the phone now to complain with Arcadia directly. Now paying close to 4x times as much as my utility company charges (Eversource - Massachusetts). It took me having to follow up multiple times on various accounts to see the detail rates of how much they over charge. Now they claim I have to wait months to go back. Also was mail bombed with political campaigns. Had to opt out of all communications to get it to stop. read more

My account with Arcadia solar went live in February 2023. As of July 6th, I have not received any solar credits. Arcadia indicates it is a delay with Central Maine Power and "please be assured that we are working to correct the delay". This is the same response I got last month, and the month before. Conclusion? Find another solar company I guess. read more
