    Empty and dark dining room
    David S.

Dining room never open, but won't reduce prices to reflect the inconvenience. Lower help costs should equate lower prices.

    The chicken wrap

The food was horrible!! The honey mustard chicken wrap was hard as a Rock. The fries were cold and burnt. Don't eat here unless you're okay with hard and burnt food

    No lettuce
    David M.

Typical Arby's - decent food and staff. Our server was new and seemed willing to learn from his supervisor. The restaurant was clean.

But I have a feeling that PB is taking a page out of Starbucks' play book by buying up run-down historical buildings in need of repairs. Then They restoring them to full glory and using them as commercial retail space. It's good for the community, its gets them good publicity and they get a great location for practically nothing. Win. Win. (Starbucks has done this all over the world. For example the historic Gilmore Gas Station in LA https://la.curbed.com/2015/3/20/9978380/starbucks-gilmore-gas-station-highland and the Bao An Street Mansion in Datong, Taiwan https://www.yelp.com/biz/Fhv1mRsKIPRa9sc73AqsXA?uid=FdPioXvctMq8lhBtd_NnTg&utm_campaign=www_business_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) ) This PB location is within the area of historic Canton which is listed on the National Historic Registry. (As you may know the NHR is pretty strict about what you can and can't do and they don't care if it will cost you an extra $10K to install the correct historically accurate whatever...you can sue all day long and you will lose...Case in point the Texaco gas station in historic Roswell, Ga...the short version...When Texaco wanted to put a store in historic Roswell-the city told them they had to build the station up to historical code. Texaco sued because this would increase their building cost. Of course they lost despite their army of $800 an hour fancy lawyers....I'm betting the money they spent in court was more than what they would of been spending on building the station to historical code.) Any way...back to Panera Bread...you can tell they put a lot of thought into how the building will fit into the whole infrastructure of the community. Everything from the lighting fixture to the distressed bricks used makes it look like it's always been a part of the neighborhood. Besides the beautiful building and its historical significance...there is the excellent service that I received from the lovely staff here. A special shout out to Yolanda for taking the time to explain various items on the lunch menu to what her favorite items are to offering daily specials. I really appreciate her patience and professionalism. I got their pick 2 special with a coffee. It consist of half a mediterranean veggie sandwich, french onion soup, an apple (cut up...I've been to many Paneras and this is the first time anyone has ever offered to cut up an apple for me. Thanks) I was offered a cookie for an additional 99 cents which I couldn't pass up. My food was bought out by a smiling blonde woman who thanked me for my order and wish me bon appetite! Then after I finished eating someone offered to take my empty plate & soup bowl. Wow...this too has never happened to me at a Panera Bread! Thanks guys for a great lunch...keep up the good work!

No one in town charges more for a beer than this place. For example, I enjoy local IPAs and Creature Comforts (Athens) is everywhere. I can go to several other stops in town and pay less for a 16 oz can or pour of this beer. Compared to another decent stop down the street, three roses is almost 30% more. My wife says one of the wines she likes is a little less than other stops, so that's good. But other drink prices tend to be on the high side as well, but most in town have higher liquor prices. That adds up if you like to frequent a place. Hence, we stopped frequenting. Overall, I like the decor and as noted, the food is decent. The upstairs is better than the downstairs but I'm glad they have the downstairs for some occasion when they could get busy. As for the Tavern / entertainment element, I've never seen any live music but they have several TVs. Not sure this would be my top choice to watch a game but it would work in a pinch if the other places were too busy or noisy.

I sat on the main level which had mostly booths (for 4 & 2 persons), half booths, bar seats, and a few tables. The interior was classy, but the ambiance was not. The mood was ruined by whiny acoustic music, probably picked by the staff and not for the customers. I can normally tune it out, but the uncharacteristic F*bombs coming from the speakers were a mood killer. And while waiting for my meal I heard the following exchange from the kitchen: "Your late!" "Are you going to fire me? Please send me home!" The hostile attitudes in the kitchen was unfortunately reflected in the meal. I ordered the fish and chips, and the fries were nicely cooked. The crust on the fish also looked good. But the fish inside was watery and unpleasant. It was also topped with a mass of cilantro sprigs, which did not pair with the flavors. I managed to scrape them all off. The fish was served with vinegar, ketchup, and (missing) tartar sauce. The friendly and attentive waitress was quick to correct the missing sauce, although it did take awhile. My meal also came with a side of slaw that would have been outstanding if the kitchen hadn't made a misstep of loading it with too much salt. The other seasonings in the slaw were excellent and unique and the addition of red onions was great, but sadly ruined by the saltiness. At the end of my meal I visited their modern and stylish restrooms. I'd arrived just after 5PM and on this weekday there were only a few patrons. So the stylish furnishing of the restroom were marred by the mess I encountered in there. Based on the number of employees compared to patrons, there wasn't an excuse for not cleaning that bathroom. I've seen truckstop restrooms that weren't that nasty.

I reserved a table for five here for Mother's Day because we've had mostly good experiences here,…read morehaven't been in a little while, and they had both crab cake Benedict and bottomless mimosas on the prix fixe menu, two of my wife's favorite things. They were clearly understaffed, which was apparent from checking in with the hostess. The line of people waiting to check in with her caused the waiter taking desserts downstairs to have to wait up to five minutes with that tray. Once we were seated, we thought things might go better. Crab cake Benedict was the #1 choice for my wife and BIL, but the kids' menu didn't have the chicken and waffles the guy who called to confirm my reservation had mentioned. That was no problem because my kids have learned to find something to eat wherever we take them, and I ordered chicken and waffles to share with them because I love my kids and knew I would get enough food one way or another. The mimosa came in a wine glass because they had run out of flutes, which was fine by my wife, but she said they tasted heavier on the juice than on the prosecco. My waffles came out a bit burnt, but they replaced them with no problem when we pointed it out. My kids got fresh waffles, and I enjoyed the burnt ones. The chicken was one decent piece for a person, but split between my daughter and me was less than I had hoped for. Thankfully, the salad was a decent appetizer. When the crab cakes Benedict came, we were shocked to see a mess of scrambled eggs on a thin crab cake with an English muffin under. We always ask for hollandaise on the side because that sauce can go several different ways of bad, but in this instance we were genuinely confused how a benedict could come with anything other than poached eggs! The flavor was okay, but the texture and presentation left a lot to be desired. My wife only finished half of hers and didn't touch the limp fries. You can probably figure out how I made do with food in this instance. Our kids, meanwhile, devoured their food like we had starved them their whole lives, so on the plus side we didn't have to hear kids whining about food! Service was polite but very slow. I don't know that we'll be back. With the abundance of good restaurants in our area, it's going to be hard to justify returning here.

With a heavy mound of onions and mushrooms on top, the grits ended up feeling dry and pulled all the moisture out of the bite. The flavor itself was fine, just lacking moisture and balance. We also ordered the scallops and risotto. The risotto was the standout. Bright, fresh finish, great texture, and not overpowering. The scallops, unfortunately, were the opposite. They had a noticeably strong smell right away, which usually means they're not as fresh as they should be, especially at a $40 price point. We took them home, but every time we opened the fridge the smell hit us, so they ultimately went in the trash. Despite this particular experience, we've always enjoyed this place. Service is consistently great, drinks are solid, and we usually leave happy. Hoping this was just an off evening, because we genuinely like coming here. Adding an additional * for the great service and because we haven't had a bad experience otherwise.
