Work desk and work chair were comfortable. Wifi worked well without the usual evening slow down. The bathroom was clean and there was enough space to spread out all of my stuff. Plenty of towels. I opted to leave the DND on the door for my four nights and it was honored. The beds were fine enough that I slept on one for two nights and rather than have the housekeeping come in, I simply switched to the other for the other two nights. Breakfast was standard Hampton. Eggs or a pre-made omelet of some sort, a breakfast meat, breads for toasting, yogurts, fruit, juices and some pastries. The breakfast area was clean. Other than sharing a small plaza with a Denny's and a gas station/pizza place, there is nothing within walking distance. There is lots in downtown Marshall that's only a mile or two away. They provided dog treats, a pecan pan roll and K cup Starbucks with unlimited bottled water!! Stay away from Holiday Inn Express if you can...others more accommodating....

The mattress didn't have the zipped mattress cover that most all hotels have and had stains all over it. The pool was completely out of towels and when I asked for some, the girl said she forgot to wash them and disappeared. She never came back with towels or even took the dirty wet ones that were in the pool basket with her to wash them. We had to walk back to the room, sopping wet. There was also trash all over the floor around the pools and some trash floating in the hot tub. They allow pets here and for the first hour we were there, we had to listen to a dog bark nonstop in one of the rooms while trying to take a nap. Breakfast looked inedible. The scrambled eggs had a greenish grey tint in certain spots and mind you, these are just dehydrated eggs. Please don't stay here! Go 5 miles down the road and stay at the Quality Inn in the Firekeepers parking lot... it's sooooo much nicer, the same price and actually clean! We only know this because our parents stayed here while we were at this trash hole of a hotel. We originally got this room because it had the pool and hot tub. NOT WORTH IT

Reminds me of the old route 66 type motels with actual keys for the doors! We had 4 adults in our party and the beds were nice, desk space was ample along with the amenities of microwave (which we didn't use), tv and refrigerator (we used for water). Bathroom is a bit small for 4 adults with little shelf space but for an overnight stay it was adequate. Don't expect the niceties of typical hotels but 3 packets of shampoo and 3 small bars of soap were provided. Towels were also provided. The shower was fine for me (5'2") but short for my 6' husband. However it had plenty of hot water and the entire bathroom was very clean. Check in was easy and the staff was pleasant. I didn't check for ice but there was an ice bucket in the room. Overall this is a pleasant place to stay and if we are in the area again we will definitely stay here.

The building is the same as other MDOT rest areas I've seen with bathrooms, vending machines, a map of the local area, picnic tables, a dog walking area and some shady spots (depending on the angle of the Sun) for a brief snooze. Not too many spots for semis and RVs, but there is some room. I imagine it gets quite busy in the evenings and overnights.
