It is a great, available, convenient place to stretch my legs and to relieve myself after being cooped up in the car and they also have a separate area that has maps and vending machines if you need to grab a quick snack as well as bringing your pets to relieve here. It has double bathrooms for both men and women with separate dual entries. It was clean, well stocked, well maintained and didn't lack anything from all the time I've come here.

This rest stop is also a Michigan Welcome Center, so it's a little more elevated than your typical rest stop. Along with restrooms, you'll find a huge room full of brochures and pamphlets about Michigan and places to visit in Michigan. If you have questions that the literature can't answer, there are some friendly people sitting at desks at the back of the room. I'm assuming they're friendly! I didn't talk to them, but they looked friendly. This is the Midwest, after all. The restrooms are relatively clean. I was in and out as quickly as possible and tried not to look around too much. One thing that's cool about this rest stop is that they have an ice cream machine! There were several different flavors of Blue Bunny ice cream bars, plus some Snickers ice cream and Starburst ice cream bars. There are also vending machines with your typical snacks, like chips, pretzels, jerky and candy. There's also a coffee machine, which dispenses regular coffee or lattes or cappuccinos. Outside, there's a large, grassy area for pets, plus some picnic tables. The restrooms and vending machines are available every day, 24 hours a day. The welcome center is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The car parking area does not have any shade but there are some areas where you can get out of your car to picnic or walk dogs. Inside, there are maps of the local area and decent vending machines. The condition of these rest area varies quite a bit from state to state but in general they seem to be getting better overall. Grass Lake Rest Area popped up at the right time and place and we found that it was definitely following the general trend; it was clean, fully functional, and appeared to be well maintained. There were maps showing our location as we made our way across Michigan on our way to Chicago. Rest stops are especially convenient for times when you want easy off and easy on without complications of restaurants and traffic. Fortunately, good rest stops are becoming fairly common and dependable.

I sensed I was in no mans land and saw this rest stop quickly come up on the expressway. What also prompted me to stop at this one was the fact that the sign said next rest stop 43 miles?!?! Really Michigan, DO BETTER. UGH. Especially if you're driving at night and nothings open, or at the crack of down, stuff can happen in 43 miles, ya know? Anyway, so I pull in and there's a fair amount of people here doing their thing. Several places to sit and barbeques available if you want to cook something to eat. There's grassy area if you want to let the dog out, which people were doing. Inside it's like every other rest stop that I've been to around here. Ample clean bathrooms and vending machines with maps. *but* what I really loved about this one, is they have a coffee/tea vending machine! YES. Bonus points for this because I really needed a pick me up. All drinks are $1.50 which is actually really good. They have coffee, obviously, but they also have tea and a few others as well. They have pop machines along with snacks as well, but I give bonus points for the coffee because at the others I've stopped at, they don't always have them. Bathrooms were clean, and parking was good. The rest stop seemed reasonably clean and well stocked, and had two entrances which was very convenient. Would stop here again in a heartbeat.

It was later in the day however, so I just chalked it up to the amount of people using it, and thought maybe it hadn't be cleaned since this morning. However, after entering the bathroom, it was disgusting. The walls were dirty, the stalls had stains, and the toilets appeared as if they hadn't been cleaned since they were first put in. There was no soap in the hand dispensers, all four or so of them, the water was freezing, and the dryers were the only things that actually worked. It was a gross experience. I would rather go in the woods than this rest stop.

Pulling in, it looks like all the other rest stops in Michigan that I've been to, so nothing different here. But, I will say, this one was really clean and pretty! Plenty of flowers throughout, freshly cut grass and no garbage from what I could see. The bathrooms here are in pretty good shape, and they have a few vending machines in the lobby area if you need something to drink or snack on. What I really liked has they even had a coffee machine. Nice! Also, there's plenty of picnic tables and some charcoal bbqs if you need to stay for longer and make something to eat while on the road. They have courtesy dog runs as well if your pets need to get out and stretch their legs as well. Overall, a nice clean pit stop. Easy in, easy out.

Located just before you get to the Lansing area, it makes for perfect timing after traveling a ways from the Canadian border. The building is maintained to impeccable standards. It is newer and laid out well. Refreshments are available in the vending machines inside the building at either end. With ample parking on both sides of the building, easy access is afforded for all who stop. A word of warning to those who utilize the big-rig lot - as with most rest areas in the state, it fills up during the evening hours and you might find yourself scrambling to park along the sides. It is not unusual to see trucks stretched out along the exit and entrance ramps here. A great stop that I make here often.

I was a bit nervous about what the bathroom would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised--it was very clean! They even had ice cream bars in the vending machines, which was a nice bonus. So of course, we stopped and used the bathroom and the dog was able to use the dog run plus get some fresh cold water. The rest area was clean on the outside, the trash cans were empty and their was no trash on the ground. The inside was clean also, looked like the floors had just been mopped. I felt safe.
