This may have been the worst hotel we've stayed at. It was absolutely filthy. I should've taken more videos and photos. The photos they have up look absolutely nothing like that I'm person. First off, there's no one at the desk ever. You're constantly looking for someone and the people the run the front desk look like kids. The hallway down to the rooms is disgusting. The walls are dirty and the carpet is filthy with dirt stains EVERYWHERE! The baseboards are also missing in many places. The room reeked of bleach when we got in. There are light fixtures missing parts, stains on the carpet, cigarette burn holes on the drapes, stains on our sheets AND towels. They were clean, but it looked like they were used to clean something dirty and they got stained. The mattress didn't have the zipped mattress cover that most all hotels have and had stains all over it. The pool was completely out of towels and when I asked for some, the girl said she forgot to wash them and disappeared. She never came back with towels or even took the dirty wet ones that were in the pool basket with her to wash them. We had to walk back to the room, sopping wet. There was also trash all over the floor around the pools and some trash floating in the hot tub. They allow pets here and for the first hour we were there, we had to listen to a dog bark nonstop in one of the rooms while trying to take a nap. Breakfast looked inedible. The scrambled eggs had a greenish grey tint in certain spots and mind you, these are just dehydrated eggs. Please don't stay here! Go 5 miles down the road and stay at the Quality Inn in the Firekeepers parking lot... it's sooooo much nicer, the same price and actually clean! We only know this because our parents stayed here while we were at this trash hole of a hotel. We originally got this room because it had the pool and hot tub. NOT WORTH IT read more

it was the most disgusting room I have ever seen in my life. At almost $200 a night. I called the front desk and there was no manager on duty. It was late at night so we had no other choice but to stay there we had three rooms and we all slept in our clothes the next morning I talk to the manager who was extremely rude and told me that it's my problem and he's not giving us a refund. I have never dealt with anybody so rude. He basically said I know you're type and told me to leave the lobby I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy . read more

While the people running this motel were friendly and helpful, there were certain annoyances. Firstly, the door locks need to be replaced. In the span of one week, our key card stopped working six times. The cards, were very worn looking. Secondly, a mildewlike odor pervaded the hallway on which our room was located. Thirdly, the side and rear entrances required a key card to access, the front lobby was unlocked 24/7. This was a major security issue. One evening, at about 11:30 p.m.. while seated in the main lobby, we heard the front automatic doors open, close, and, then reopen with nobody appearing to enter. The gave a creepy feeling. We have stayed at this location over the years for many years. We haven't been back for a while but it seems that the ownership may have changed. The quality at this Quality Inn is very bad. When checking in there were lots of problems. System was down, room they gave us was booked by someone else but they gave it to us anyways. Many things were unavailable, broken, not cleaned, and in disrepair. There was mildew in the tub drain and the shower valve was stuck in the up position. The lamp cover was cracked and the bathroom hook missing a screw and barely holding on. Also I booked a room for 4 people and was only given 2 towels. When we asked for more towels we were told to bring back the 2 dirty towels in order to get more. After begging & pleading for more they finally gave us 2 additional but when those were dirty we had to do another exchange ourselves for towels. After returning to the room we realized one of the towels was see through and threadbare. When asked for an additional blanket we were told there were no more available. In addition, the pillows were old, lumpy, and cheap. My husband witnessed another couple at the front desk complaining that the day before there were only 2 yogurts out during breakfast and this day there were none. The front desk reached into a refrigerator behind the counter and give them one yogurt and said "Sorry, these are limited". There was a construction crew staying there and multiple trucks were parked across the back lot parking spaces which took up the whole parking lot. Then the construction crew, who were drinking beers in the parking lot, got into a screaming match with someone in a room and they were screaming obscenities at each other while my husband, kids, and I were trying to return to the hotel at night. Our key cards were old and reused and did not work, even after going to the front desk repeatedly to get it fixed. When I reviewed this hotel through the Choice Hotels website I received an emailed response that was obviously a form letter (pics included) as the General Manager forgot to take out the [Hotel Contact Information] field. Needless to say it seems extremely insincere and I doubt they will work to fix anything. If this was the GM of this small-town hotel, then they already know the problems. We will not be returning to this location ever again. read more

We had stayed at this location years before and it was fine. Something is a-miss now. We stayed there because the rate was 1/3 that of the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn. Turns out there was a reason for that. Our reservation was for 6 nights so the following was our observations over a number of days. Pros: Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Breakfast was ok. They ran out of individual cartons of milk but they went to the store to get a gallon jug. That was good. Cons: Very worn hallway carpeting. 1/2 of the first floor was sealed off. Maybe there is remodeling underway? Door keys do not work! Had to get new keys sometimes twice per day. Other guests had the same complaint. The only thing the towels have in common to actual towels are the shape. They are very cheap and do not dry. No daily housekeeping service. After we left, we noticed there was a $2/day fee added to our bill for the room safe. No mention of this when we made our on-line reservation or at check in. Laundry is out of order. The problem was the coin slot. We asked if they had a Maint. man. We stated we had the same problem at another hotel and their maintenance man just tripped the device and we would pay at the desk. ( in reality we did not have to pay.). We were also told we could take our clothes to a sister hotel and it was ok to use their machines. Good solutions at that hotel. The reply here was that their maintenance man "was young and did not know anything." A very poor response. We were told the machines had been broken for sometime and here it was six days and still not usable The staff is working 12 hour shifts. Perhaps they are having problems getting help, like other businesses, or trying to save money. It looked like a family ran the business. They need to step up their game. I would like to see them succeed as they were very nice people. read more

LONG POST- be prepared. We pick this place for our wedding due to the other hotels not answering our calls. We looked at pictures and it didn't look too bad, so we went with it. BIG mistake. The front desk people were there for a total of 1 month and the other for a week. They wouldn't allow early check in, which was completely ok- we understood and went to the venue to set up. But the tall short haired blonde was beyond rude to me and multiple other women- but "sweet as pie" to any of the attractive men. When we went back to check in, that's where the issues started. We had put a block in for rooms back in January. Everyone booked before May 20 like we were told. The blocked rooms were meant to be for June 24th with check out on the 26th. We told them the majority would check in on Saturday- and we're told that wouldn't be an issue. This was now June 24, a day before our wedding, and they were saying they were "completely booked" and had "lost" the reservation for one of our groomsmen. The next day, over six couples (6 rooms total) who had booked their rooms back in March (TWO montages before cut off time), couldn't get their rooms- they were booked. They had to go to a random motel to stay the night- especially since some came from out of state and the majority of our guest were from over 2 hours away. One room had someone else's stuff in it (not part of our group) so that couple had to wait over an hour to "see if there was a room available". The hotel had over booked even though we were told we would have 10 reserved rooms, but they would leave some empty if they had to add more to it. I had told them, and we have emails, that we could possibly have up to 20 rooms booking, not including our suite and our kids room, and if they could reserve up to 20 that would be great or at least put a note in it. They didn't. We had also booked a room for my now mother-in-law. It was supposed to be handicap accessible due to her needing a wheelchair to get around because of her cancer. The room that they put her in was a normal room- she couldn't even get her walker in the bathroom.They couldn't switch her because, once again, the hotel was booked. My father-in-law asked if they could at least get a hotel handicap shower seat. To which they replied "they couldn't because it was not legal for them to do". The suite is another story. We had told them that we need a big room for the bridal party to get ready in (including moms would be 8 people). We were told it would be one of the rooms that are on the website that have the balcony, since those are the biggest rooms that they have. The room we got was a one bedroom king bed that supposedly was a suite because it had a jetted tub. It was smaller than the double bed rooms. The balcony suites were full to "long term guests" that had checked in (from what we were told) in the BEGINNING OF JUNE. 6 MONTHS AFTER we had reserved it. My husband went to complain and all they did was comp him another double-bed room- per their "general manager" - that was "good enough since it was free". For a group that had over 15 rooms ready to be booked, and a suite, it would seem like the hotel would have their stuff together. The fact that the two people out front were there less than two months total, and there was nobody else that could come help them, is ridiculous. I know this isn't a fancy motel, and it's one of those you get what you get, but there still a matter of running a business. As someone who has worked in the hotel industry before for five years, this is absolutely ridiculous. If you're planning for a random night- go for it. If you're going for a weekend, or a wedding block, RUN. The fact that they could lose reservations for over 15 rooms is so highly unprofessional. I would've rather paid the extra money for higher cost rooms AND transportation from the venue, and stayed 30 minutes away, then to ever deal with them again read more

Rooms adequate and very clean. Beds need to be replaced with better quality. Was charged for "Incidentals" totally $150 for proclaimed bed mattress destructions from dog urine and also to the carpeted floor charged as "Misc. pet fees" on my hotel bill. Then I was accused of taking a cheap partial gold duvet that lays at the end of the bed. My senior small dog had widdled on the top bed covers only by accident (as she is normally very good)-soiling my dog blankets I had on top of the bed over the comforter, partial duvet, and top sheet which ARE THE ONLY THINGS SHE SOILED. THE FITTED BED SHEET AND MATTRESS HAS NO URINE STAINS AS STATED BY THE HOTEL STAFF AND MANAGER NOR DID THE CARPETED FLOOR ...EVERYTHING WAS LEFT IN SPOTLESS CONDITION AND NOT TRASHED AS HE HAD IMPLIED. MY HUSBAND AND i CHECKED EVERY INCH OF THAT ROOM AND SURFACE SO WHERE HOTEL MANAGEMENT IS IMPLICATING THESE ALLEGED DAMAGES IS UNBEKNOWNST TO ME???!!! I had taken off the soiled bedding and walked it down to the laundry room where an attendant saw me and asked if he could be of assist. I instructed him my dog had an accident on the bed and had to replace the top bedding only--I was supplied with a comforter and top sheet that I walked down to the room and made up myself. ON the day of checkout, I went to the front desk, handed my hotel key cards over, and asked for a receipt--printer was not working and it was busy so asked to have it sent via email after re-explaining to the general manager what had happened the night before and my apologies upon questioning me about "missing linen". I never did get my receipt via email so called the nest day and finally got it. Reviewing bank charges against bill of receipt from hotel, I called again on the next-spoke with front help whom explained it was incidentals and should be dropping off. I again called the following day after this to discuss unknown charges on the bill and was told by front desk that it was for purported pet urine damages to bed mattress and carpet in the room. I ask to speak to general manager who was not available at that time and was instructed would call next day-never happened ...Hence filing a formal complaint with corporate. Moreover, I was also charged an outrageous pet fee of 35 each for my 2 small dogs...which the hotel claims I never notified them I was checking in with pets. This is a lie as well since I had the room booked well advance and stated I had 2 small dogs. Also confirmed the reservation and my pets staying with me day before check in with the front desk. This is a franchise under the general manager "John" who does not receive poor reviews well or fails to follow through on you customer dispute/complaint at the local level as promised by one of his front desk staff. We had been at a wedding in the late afternoon and early pm...came back to hotel at 11 pm to change clothes check on the dogs and continue with finalizing clean up after the wedding. Corporate tells you it's out of their hands because money disputes at the franchise level are the responsibility of the franchise owner/manager which are able to charge fees that are hidden or whatever fee they decide to charge you...for example: room rate was supposed to be $90/night got charged $99 per night. "Pet Friendly" hotel but was told by the General Manger over the phone 8 days later after my stay that because my "2 well trained dogs pissed all over the floor and the bed ...." that they had to "shut the whole room down" and replace the shoddy mattress that was already present in the room. Then he proceeded to tell me that he did not "fucking care" that I left him "shitty reviews" on Google or anywhere else. he told me, "I was shitty for taking care of my dirty sheets." Hung up! He also never gave me an opportunity to talk on the phone when he was "literally shouting at me, and talking to me with profanity and "Like I was his kid who had done him wrong" ---so yelling at me over the phone in his heightened matter even escalated the situation more by me now going to the corporate CEO Patrick Pacious of Choice Hotels for further action...after already filing a formal complaint with Corporate Choice Hotels and being instructed that they are unable to forward this concern to the CEO nor provide his information for contact...and this after I called back 8 days later to f/u on my formal complaint and then get put on hold for an extended period of time and re-routed to the Local Marshall, MI Quality Inn General Manager (according to the customer support's boss this was not to supposed to be handles like this in this matter) that proceeded to be rude and an asshole on the phone with me because he obviously has done this in the past with other customers who know they have been scammed. He did even acknowledge who he was except to say "Hi my name is so and so"...but did not offer his title on the phone such as "HI this is so and so General Manager of Quality Inn Marshall, MI..."guess that is asking too much. read more

Let me just start out by saying if I could give no stars I would!!! I have never stayed at a hotel more filthy than the Quality Inn in Marshall, MI. The chair in our room was so filthy, I'd be afraid I'd get a disease if I sat in it. Our coverlet on the beds were filthy along with a hand towel that had been used and left hanging in our room. The beds are hard as rocks and so uncomfortable. It's unfortunate that we booked this hotel for two nights because I'm cringing at the thought of another night here as I'm writing this review. If it wasn't for a wedding we are attending near by I would be checking out today!!! read more

I went to Marshall for a funeral. I looked at the hotels recommended by the funeral home, Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn, and I was surprised by their prices, $150-$200 for a room with two beds! I didn't even pay that much for a room when I went to a four star hotel in Chicago. I was reluctant to choose Comfort Inn, because I was in a rather sensitive place. However, I'm glad I did. It was less than half of the other hotels, and I couldn't imagine the other hotels were any nicer. I'm going to start with the cons, because there were so few. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, and at the top of the stairs, the door is awkward to open, to the point where if you're carrying a lot of things and have people behind you, you could easily fall backwards. Next the bathroom in our particular room was rather small. And that's it. The room we stayed in had a refrigerator, a microwave, a baby coffee maker, an iron and ironing board, two double beds, a bedside table, a dresser with an HDTV on it, a desk with computer chair, and a sitting chair. There was enough room for four people to comfortably exist. In the morning, they had a superb breakfast displayed for everyone. It had cereal, bagels, danishes, muffins, hot eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, a waffle maker, milk, juice, yogurt and coffee. I was beyond pleased with this hotel and it exceeded my expectations. The staff were pleasant and the wake call was prompt. The location is decent. There's a dollar tree, Kmart and Radio Shack nearby, there are also a variety of fast food restaurants and an Applebee's. It's located right behind a Shell Gas Station that has a nice array of snacks. For what I was going through, I could have easily had a horrible experience due to any small inconvenience. read more

Nice, clean, hotel. I have stayed here a couple times on business and each time had a great stay. The pool and spa are nice and clean and there are towels always in stock in the pool area. I also take advantage of the sauna. The beds are very comfortable and have provided me with one of the best nights of sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The price is a little steep, but since this is the only hotel within 20 minutes I am willing to pay it. read more

Loud hotel! Not built to soften the sound of the halls or any of the rooms around you. Sounded like a gymnastics meet in the room above us until after midnight and then anyone of the drunks (yes 2/3 of the guests carried around open beer bottles) who walked down the hall were so loud they sounded like they were in your room. I came to Marshall this past weekend to visit my fiancee's family. Out of the hotel options in Marshall, we chose Comfort Inn, because it was reasonable in price, had an indoor pool and hot tub, and seemed decently appointed. We were impressed with our stay. The rooms were very clean and the linens were comfortable. The pillows were on the smaller side, but there were 5 of them. Our provided amenities were nice as well, including makeup remover wipes! The only downside of the room was that the bathroom was rather small, but having the vanity in a separate area made it not a problem. One downside was that we did experience some loud neighbors (that were possibly hanging out in the hallway), but we were able to turn on the fan in the room to drown them out. We took an early morning swim in the pool, which was heated nicely, as well as the hot tub. The hotel offered a nice range of breakfast options, including warm items such as flavored waffles, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. The staff were prompt with refilling items and keeping the dining space clean. Overall, I would stay at this Comfort Inn again when visiting Marshall. read more
