I walked in, and the entire room seemed to stop. People turned and stared. I smiled at a few of them, hoping to break the tension, but they just kept staring. I sat down at the bar and waited quietly -- five, maybe ten minutes. I had no problem being patient as I understand bartenders can get busy. But while I sat there, I watched her serve others, chat with regulars, and even tell one that she'd just given him some fresh drinks. She continued cleaning her bar but never once acknowledged me. Not even a "Hi" or "I'll be right with you." Then she poured herself a Red Bull into her personal cup, walked right past me, and struck up a friendly conversation with the man next to me -- loud and casual -- asking if he was "golfing this weekend." That made it clear: she wasn't going to serve me. As a BLACK veteran, that moment hit hard. This bar, with all its patriotic décor, made it clear that their version of "supporting the troops" doesn't include people like me. I didn't serve my country to protect ignorance or racism -- especially not from those who wrap themselves in the flag while looking down on others. This place can take their support and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

I will be back.....be prepared to pay a cover on certain nights after a certain time. Cash only but of course there is an ATM right in the lobby. On a Saturday night the place was full but not chaotic. I would come again. Shoutout to our bartender last name Watson for setting us up and taking care of our party throughout the evening. There are 3 machines in the back where there had been a guy playing on the machine, but he had gotten up and was no where near the machines at this time. We ordered a drink and my wife went over to see what the machines were, what games they had and if they required cash. The "man" in question walks up and asks her "what the fuck are you doing?" She calmly tried to explain that she wanted to see what the machines were and how to play. He continued cursing at her "you can't fucking touch people's machines" "this is gambling". "I've got $350 fucking dollars on this machine" She tried to explain she was sorry and didn't know and he continued to speak to her disrespectfully and cursing at her. She walked away and asked for our tab. I got up walked over and asked him "is that how you speak to people?" He starts trying to explain himself and I reiterated that he could have said things very differently and she didn't know and that's unacceptable. He tells me to talk to the bartender. The bartender comes over and as we are explaining what happened, she says "you probably shouldn't be pushing buttons". There were no questions asked and not one word was said to the douchebag on the machine. We don't live in a state that has gambling. We didn't know he had money on the machine and we certainly weren't trying to spend his money. Ask questions, explain yourself but you don't speak to my wife that way and you will not curse at her and think it's acceptable. We were offered to go cups to take our drinks with us as we left. We were so pissed and upset, we left our full drinks on the bar and left. I can promise you this, we will not ever return here and we will make sure everyone we know is aware of how this establishment treats people who aren't regulars. It's supposed to be a safe environment for all. We didn't feel safe and we didn't feel supported. Shame on you Mr Douchebag and shame on you MJs tavern.

I love the atmosphere!…read more My husband and I travel here few times out the month love the vibe here. Sometimes it's just us or we're here with friends it's always something going on such a lively event space rather you're upstairs or downstairs or even outside we have been here when different events take place as far as the war of the Wings, a taco festival and most recently the World Cup final. Definitely a packed house standing room only. But we was able to get a spot in a corner where we could see the TVs. TVs are all around as well as a large projector screen. Technically there's no bad spot if you're there to look at any type of sporting event or anything on the television's there. We did not have any food there but I did see that they were selling like burgers and fries and some other things. We did get our drinks from upstairs at the harbor Club. Our favorite bartender Sonya was there on post as usual. There was a cornhole tournament in progress so this space was closed for this private event. But Sonya has a super super fun personality... hospitality is always a 10 out of 10 definitely unmatched. Parking... we were able to park in the garage directly across the street from Waterside... it was storming out therefore parking in that garage we were able to use the catwalk to head over to Waterside so we didn't get any drop of rain on us. It's free to enter unless they have events that are taking place. But usually it's free. Check before you go if that's a concern but nevertheless it's always a fun time here. We enjoy it throughly. Have fun and enjoy life.:)
