Wow, I am in shock that I did not review this salon sooner! Bijou was probably one of my greatest…read morediscoveries to date in the Syracuse area. I am a curly haired gal and- let me tell you- I have experienced some pretty awful haircuts in Upstate New York. Lots of places advertise curly cuts, "devacuts", yaddah yaddah- but they truly have no idea what they are doing. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go to NYC for rescue haircuts. ENTER JOLENE AND BIJOU.... if you want a great curly cut, this is where you should be going. Jolene is a genius- she truly understand the dynamic nature of curls and takes her time getting a lay of the "curl land" before she starts snipping. She starts with a dry cut to make sure she doesn't take too much... then she proceeds with the wash and dry process... and then- the grand finale- more styling at the end. She cut my hair before my wedding last July- it was perfect. And she just rejuvenated my mop of hair again today. I find the prices to be very, very fair. As an aside, everyone wears masks at the salon, and they check your temp and employ mandatory hand washing when you first walk in. If you have curly hair and are living in upstate New York/Syracuse, you must try this place.

From the color, the cut to the company she was a great hairstylist and I would 100% recommend her to anyone. She was so polite and personal and did a great job with blending my roots out. On top of it the salon was up to date, VERY clean and a great relaxing atmosphere. Go here!

Growing up in Upstate NY, I've always heard about Mirbeau as being a top option for a fancy spa…read moregetaway in the Finger Lakes, so I didn't bother to look at reviews first. Sadly our experience didn't live up to Mirbeau's supposed good reputation. The gap between the price and the value of service was the size of the Grand Canyon. Our room was about $450 a night, closer to $500 after taxes. The rooms are pretty, even in the winter the view of the garden was nice. The bathrooms in the cottage rooms are spacious. Things went downhill at dinner in the attached restaurant. We were one of about 4 tables so it was a slow night. Our server did an adequate job, but the food was extremely disappointing. My fiance reported that there were bits of shell in all of his oysters. The cheese board wasn't very inspiring, for $24 I could have made the same thing myself at home after a stop at Wegmans. My filet was cooked wrong twice, after the second time where it came out still slightly overcooked I had it taken off the bill. My fiance finished half of his wagyu as it also fell very flat for him. Mind you, this was a $140 dollar steak entree, and the chef didn't even bother to salt the meat. We ended up having about half our meal comped and it was still over $300 to eat one of the worst fine dining meals we've ever had. The spa itself, like the rooms, were also just okay. The locker rooms are spacious and well stocked, and kept clean. One place that's lacking is that there's not enough waiting space for everyone. The "tranquility" waiting room with the foot pool is not enough room for people who are trying to lounge/meditate AND for people to congregate waiting for their spa services. It was awkward not really having somewhere to sit. My massage was ok, it felt more like a Swedish massage than it did a deep tissue. There wasn't any opportunity to request more attention be paid to certain areas with more tension (I told her my right arm is usually more sore and she kind of just ignored me and didn't touch that area at all). My masseuse said I was breathing incorrectly so I was too distracted by my breathing to enjoy my massage. We ended up cancelling our second night. I will never recommend Mirbeau to anyone.

Lunch was top, with the steak sandwich and truffle fries. The steak was cooked medium rare and the leek and herb chimichurri was delightful, frwsh, and delicious. Dinner was absolutely superb. The lamb tenderloin was one of the best appetizers I have had in the area. The pickled mushrooms and pea purée complimented the lamb, which was perfectly cooked. You don't often see lamb tenderloin on menus and this was a treat. My partner loved the tuna tartare special and the steak frites. We sat at the bar and had great conversations with the bartender, Ed, rounded off with great drinks and desserts. The food was memorable and we will be back.

Reena was fantastic as a person and as a professional. I had to get a spray tan for a wedding, and…read moreit was my first time doing so. Reena made me feel comfortable, explained everything ahead of time, and was so conversational during the process that it -- to my suprise -- was not an awkward experience at all. The color was fantastic. I was very worried that I was going to look orange and that the color would be SO over the top that I'd stick out instead of just blending in. She made a mix for me that conformed and meshed with my hair/eyes/skin tone very well, and it had a blue undertone so that the color was more of a cool tone as opposed to a neutral or warm tone. It looked natural -- like I had gotten a tan at the beach. The formula she uses is also excellent. One of my concerns (and this is probably due to my lack of knowledge about spray tans) was that it would paint-like and cover up a lot of the look of my skin -- freckles, natural skin "pattern" etc. It did not paint over that at all. Instead, it blended in (as you can see on the photos). It amazes me that this was the case -- that alone added to the natural look, because my freckles etc were still normal and visible, making it (as I said above) look like I just got a tan, not that I got "painted" a different color. Moreover, the price, the utter convenience, and the product was an unbelievable combination. I expected it to be expensive she was coming to MY house, on MY time, in the privacy of MY home, with all natural products and a mix designed specifically for my skin tone. To my shock, her price rivals all of the salons I checked -- it may even be cheaper. And yet the service, the convenience, and the quality of the product are just so much more superior (compared to what I saw other bridesmaids get for that wedding). My only recommendations would be as follows: (1) Try to get this spray tan a day before your event if you can. For obvious reasons, it maximizes the color and look of the spray tan as opposed to getting it, say, four days in advance. It just makes more sense to get it done closer to the event. (2) You're supposed to get a good shower prior to the spray tan to kind of clean the skin really well so that spray tan "sticks" even better. Because it was my first time doing this, I went a little overboard in the "clean off dead skin" department and scratched up my legs a bit. That was overkill, and those scratches showed through the spray tan, so just take it easy -- do a normal shower beforehand. (3) When you take that first shower after the spray tan is done, there will be tanner that goes down the drain, even when it's just water rinsing. I would lightly clean, but I wouldn't rub and clean like a normal shower. Also, don't use lush products after -- it does rub it off a bit. (4) When you're just ready for it all to be gone, the Lush body scrubs work pretty well to get it off. It takes like 30 minutes, but it works. Thank you to Reena for such a great job!!
