Monday, it was only as warm as we keep the house, and only as much water as there is in the pipes! Our gas water-heater failed! Bad timing, too. Last week was what Chicago calls Fools'-Spring ... around 70°. But this week was back to Second-Winter, 30° (Mar 2026). And the next warm days, which Chicago calls the "Spring-of-Deception", is still ten days away. There was water leaking from the heater. This is considered the calm before the 50-gallon tsunami. If this is home-remedy advice, First call a friend who has successfully navigated this problem. Next shut off the gas and then the pilot. Next shut off the water inlet. Your friend will have at least one plumber to recommend. (They will enjoy that...) If your garden hose isn't frozen to the spigot, drain the water tank. If frozen, spend a sleepless night with the 24/7 plumber's number on speed-dial. We chose #2.  We made it through the night. Two of our friend's recommendations were small-businesses, our preference, and we asked all three for quotes and availability. Ehrhardt was ready to offer a price based on our descriptions and photos, of course with caveats for anything unexpected. I considered their bid to be a pretty-penny, but I'll say it was less than our friend's expectation, and more than our friend in Cleveland expected. A fair price. They came the next morning, and it might have been sooner if we had called right away. We cleared a path for them through the house, and they had the water heater replaced in 90min. Impressive. We went out for St. Pat's. But what we should have done was what they told us: check the pilot light for about 30min, and test the hot water after 60 to 90min. We came home to cold water. I'll admit some grumpiness. We called in the morning, and they came back in a jiffy (our apologies to everyone else who had appointments that day). In 30min, they figured it out: a faulty pilot in the new, just-unboxed water heater. They had a replacement part over-nighted. The next morning, in 30min, done. This time we did as told: checked the pilot after 20min (and nervously, an extra time again after that). Still lit! The second time we checked, the hot water outlet was noticeable warm. By 60min, hot water from the faucets! By 90min, much to relief of nearly everyone i know, a piping hot shower. AAAAAHHH :-) Ok, so how does three visits equal 5-stars! The hardest question answered first: Because the problem was the manufacturer's fault, and Ehrhardt handled it flawlessly: Excellent communication by Ehrhardt, priority attention to our problem, no excuses, just fast resolution. Great service staff, from the office to my house. Fair price. I admit that I'm writing this in the after-glow of that hot shower. This could be the start of a beautiful situationship.

The main problem and downside is that they are very expensive and overcharge. Despite the Yelp page saying that the company provides a "free estimate", I was quoted $49 for the technician to travel. In addition, if I had not chosen to go ahead with the repair, the company would have charged me an additional $150 diagnostic fee. Essentially, despite the yelp profile stating a "free estimate", it will cost you closer to $200 to get a quote. I see this as false advertisement. In addition, when the technician concluded that the problem was the capacitor, I received a final quote of $600. When I googled the price of the same capacitor online, the price range was in between 75$ - 150$. Essentially, they are charging a premium of at least $450 per replacement for a single part (capacitor). Despite their professionalism and quality work, I do not recommend this company for the reasons stated above. If price is not a concern for you, and you would rather pay twice the market value for a job then you should definitely choose them. EDIT: I actually googled the price of a capacitor and offered to buy my own. I was told that by the technician that if I purchased my own capacitor that the company would not install it. In conclusion, they did not address any of my concerns. Unfortunately, after reading the other bad reviews, there seems to be a consistent pattern of discrepancies between what they tell customers and what they instruct technicians to say on site. Making an honest living is so much more rewarding than making it dishonest living.

A diagnostic appointment of the existing water softener/neutralizer brought to light that the existing system had a flush line installed directly to my sewer line which is a code violation and is incredibly dangerous, as if putting a hose directly into my toilet with no measures taken to prevent back flow into my drinking water. Atlantic Blue's plumber and installer, Mike Haines, flushed the existing system, flushed all exits, replacing a clogged kitchen faucet and bathroom spigot jammed with sediment, as well as installing a new p-trap blocking the back flow of noxious gases and sediment into the new flush line. A recheck for bacteria contamination reflected an all clear and now a system that used to irritate my skin is now up and running without issue. I would definitely recommend this co. Ask for Mike to complete your install.

Given the cost of this work, I expected durable materials, proactive recommendations, and transparent guidance. Unfortunately, both experiences have left me disappointed -- and more importantly, concerned about trust. Regarding the pressure tank: during installation, their team very likely observed an older, visibly corroded metal well intake pipe that had likely been in place for nearly 20 years under prior ownership. Fast forward to today -- I noticed heavy white corrosion on the 4.5-year-old brass fitting and an active water leak. Given the risk of catastrophic failure, I called for urgent service. To their credit, they arrived within two hours, which I appreciated. However, I was then told the metal pipework was not covered under the tank warranty and that it should be replaced with stainless steel -- which they acknowledged would last longer and resist corrosion better than the prior installation -- at a cost of $1,400. When a contractor identifies visibly corroded infrastructure during an install, I expect clear risk disclosure and upgrade options at that time -- not four years later when failure is imminent and the homeowner has little choice. Now to the RO system: at installation, I was told the filters were widely available commercially and easy to replace. I later learned the filters are proprietary and only sold through water system companies -- not readily available via retail as originally represented. That distinction materially affects long-term cost and flexibility. Years later, I called to ask how to sanitize the RO system myself. I was told it's something only they can do and that they would handle sanitization when delivering the next set of filters (rather than shipping them), which I accepted. After the technician sanitized the lines, he casually told me, "You know you can sanitize the lines yourself." That is exactly what I had asked about over the phone. I relied on their guidance, only to hear the opposite in person. For tradespeople working inside a home -- especially on critical water infrastructure -- trust and clarity are foundational. When guidance changes, material limitations aren't disclosed up front, or foreseeable corrosion isn't proactively addressed, it raises concerns beyond just cost. While I appreciate the prompt emergency response, the combination of reactive fixes, proprietary product limitations, and inconsistent communication has made this an unsatisfactory experience overall.

The next day Doug came by with a camera and showed us that there were tree roots in the pipe. He was able to schedule service for the next day. So far so good. The team came out the next morning and said that if everything went smoothly they would be done by about 2:30. Well, everything did not go smoothly. They dug up our front yard and said that there was nothing wrong with the pipe where Doug had told them to dig. They sat around for an hour, waiting for Doug to get back to them. When he did, they were told that the clog was much farther away from the house than where they dug and had to keep digging closer to the sewer clean out. They did not finish until 9:00pm. The problem is that while they spent half the day digging in the wrong spot, they damaged bushes and knocked over a tree that were nowhere near the clog. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In their response, they said that the pipe took an unexpected turn. As you can see from the attached pictures, the pipe was perfectly straight; Doug and the team just miscommunicated about the location to dig. I know that in this kind of a job, damage to the landscape is unavoidable, and they are not responsible for the unavoidable damage, but because of their miscommunication, there was a great deal of avoidable damage. I have asked them to reimburse me for the portion of the landscaping that they should not have damaged, and they have refused. I have not asked for a refund of my fee as they did the work they were supposed to, nor have I asked for them to pay for all my landscaping. I have merely asked them to pay for the damage that was caused by their mistakes. They have refused.

He was extremely patient and educated me on terminology to fully comprehend what was needed to resolve my issues. We made an appointment and Brian stopped by to repair a pipe on my water heater. Brian is EXTREMELY professional and so down to earth. He repaired the pipe, took the time to look at my plumbing issues and advised me on the best route to move forward. I had another company come out earlier that week for a similar estimate. The work the other company suggested would have been more invasive and would have required several drywall/tile repairs. Brian is extremely considerate and understood my concerns regarding my home. He said "let's try the least invasive route first" and I received a quote within a day. I then coordinated with Rob to schedule the work (which also included installing an expansion tank for my water heater). I met both Rob and Daniel this past Wednesday and it was an absolute pleasure! I stayed out of their way and I have so much respect for their work. They resolved all of the plumbing issues before 5 and brought everything up to code. I've been dealing with these concerns for 10 yrs so I screamed when I saw that everything was resolved. Their work was extremely thorough and they tested everything prior to leaving. I have so much respect for their ingenuity and practicality. My house was cleaned prior to their departure and everything now runs smoothly. An old cast iron sewage pipe cracked and was leaking into my basement and had to be replaced along with connections to upstairs toilets. The next day, Rob and Jaykri came to my rescue. They did the job under their own cost proposal and at a significantly lower price than a big-name competitor's proposal. Brian moved a schedule around to fit me in and got the job done in 1 day. (The other company could not even start until 3 days later) Rob and Jaykri even fixed a couple other odd plumbing issues (shower cartridges, broken valve knobs, etc.) while they were at my house. He verbally quoted me a ballpark estimate to fix the issue but also gave me step-by-step instructions to troubleshoot & resolve the issue in case it was something very minor. Turns out it was and I was able to clear up this issue with Dan's help over the phone. Side note: turns out I did hire Lyons in the past for an issues with our bathroom plumbing in which they did a phenomenal job, were very punctual & communicative, and were reasonably priced. I also learned about some mistakes I made in trying to DIY the issue. Seems like the whole Lyons team are not only pros at their trade but also great teachers who are genuinely there to help. Giving 5 stars for Dan's professionalism, ability to detect my sense of urgency (a little desperation too, probably), and willingness to help a customer even if didn't help his bottom line.
