I've been working on building an orchid terrarium and renovate my beta tank so I took a trip to Aquatica to see what additions I could find. They have some awesome fish and coral you can purchase. The store is very inviting and the staff is friendly and helpful. I didn't explore the whole store but I did find what I needed. The prices were reasonable. I got some river rocks and wood to jazz up the tank and support the orchids in my terrarium. These items were priced by weight and the employees had to weigh them and calculate the price up front at the register. I spent about $20 on everything I got. The place is very nice and has a good selection of freshwater fish, saltwater fish, coral, freshwater plants, and equipment. I was in the store for about 15 minutes and had staff come up to me around 5 times to ask if I needed help (a bit excessive.. it made me feel very uncomfortable). The prices were a bit on the high side. read more

I stopped by the Clanton Road location a couple weeks ago to browse for some snails and plants. I had previously been to the Moorseville location, and they were very helpful. Sadly this location was not the same. Maybe it was just a bad day, but there were only 2 employees I saw and both looked too distracted to answer any questions. The young lady that I was interacting seemed a little put out, but whatever. The fish seemed to be in good shape and the place was clean but I will probably not return. read more

The first visit here is going to be a bit intimidating, but don't let it overwhelm you. It's a BIG store - with both Fresh and Saltwater fish, tanks, supplies, driftwood, coral, shrimp, and plants! They also have a large number of tanks setup to give you some ideas - and FYI - everything is for sale if you see a setup you like! The large tank with sharks is a treat just for my kid to go see, and the Amazonian planted tank is a gorgeous goal to reach for me. The staff does bother a bit too much at times - always asking if you want help, but if you do get help, they are pretty knowledgeable. The location is not convenient for me, so I only can stop after work or while traveling back from Uptown. My last visit, the wife, kid and I stopped here on the way uptown to look and show my son the Shark Tank! We got some info on plants that all looked healthy, and got some ideas for our new tank we were cycling. Rather than waiting, we stopped on the way back home and grabbed the plants we had been looking at, and my son picked up some popcorn! The fish are healthier than most PetsMart, and pricing isn't that out of line - tanks are evenly priced in comparison actually with more options. Regardless of where you get your fish - they should sit in a QT tank prior to going into your Community tank - but they plants look awesome! read more

We USED to really enjoy the dedication to cleanliness and detail that Keith showed to our two aquariums during maintenance (cleaning). Make sure you can VIDEO what they are saying your paying for because you GETTING RIPPED OFF. Got 6 pictures of him cleaning his phone instead of my aquarium. Tried to reach out to Gus (Owner) but HE DOESN'T HAVE TIME. Guess its time to find someone else to give our money too. I came for a full set up of saltwater (tank,fish,coral.....) Barb helped with everything, set it up, stayed late, and has been back every few weeks for maintenance since May. Barb is amazing to say the least. Aquatica isn't just a business that sells fish, they clearly care about what they do and they care for their costumers. I've been in other shops where it seems like they are more concerned about making a sell. That is not the case with this place, they are more concerned with learning what it is the costumer wants and then educating the costumer on how to care for their fish. Though overpriced in every aspect, they have good products and stuff that you don't normally find in stores. Their fish though are terrible quality, well freshwater fish anyway in my experience. Most fish purchased from them dont last a day, no joke. I bought a German blue ram from them yesterday (against my better judgement) at 5pm and this morning it's already dead. That's happened multiple times with multiple kinds of fish from these guys. As much as I would like to, I'm not shopping anymore with these people. And they don't care about your loss of money or bad experience. 2 stars only because of their other products. Never going back though. read more

Was in the store for 45 minutes and not once did any of 4 employees even say hello. I could see it if they were busy but I was the only customer they had. All the tanks were dirty with algae on all the glass, pest in the coral. I could understand the lack of customer service if everyone was busy taking care of the tanks but they were all just sitting around looking at personal computers. read more

Tanks are very clean and the staff is beyond helpful! I've been to all the stores in the Charlotte area and Aquatica has, by far, the best stock of Dwarf Puffers. Overall the selection of fresh and saltwater fish is very impressive. Best aquatics store in the area, hands down! read more

Wow! I was so impressed with this store. The staff was very knowledgeable and came up to us multiple times to see if we had any questions. The tanks were very large the fish looks very fat and healthy! When we move down to Charlotte we will surely be paying them lots of visits! Thank you for doing such a great job. read more

I had been a regular customer of Aquatica / Clanton Rd. this year, having bought aquarium equipment, fish and water treatment chemicals. I had a TERRIBLE experience today and won't be coming back to this location ever again - until the two unfriendly and unprofessional young clerks and their responsible managers are no longer there! Not only could they not provide any useful advice on the different sizes of UV sterilizers they sell, they refused to show me the difference in physical size of the units, saying the store policy is "if you open the box, you bought it!" When I questioned that policy and asked for a manager, I was told she was out for lunch. Having bought the unit, I wanted to show them how they could have opened the cardbox box (which was not taped shut) to simply let me look at the units, the one clerk questioned me "What have you got against me anyway?" When I responded that my issue was the policy, not her, she turned her back to me, walked away with her nose up, and said "Have a nice day, sir..." When I said that being rude was on her, not the store policy, the other clerk chimed in "Get out of the store!" When I asked for his name he refused to provide it (although I have the names of both clerks). When I called the Mooresville store to complain about the incident, the manager apologized and assured me that this was NOT the store policy - that they show customers equipment all the time. I may give the Mooresville location a chance going forward. read more

I have only bought a couple things here, but everything I bought was incredibly overpriced and the fish and coral here are not very healthy, and the corals come with a lot of pests. I got a coral from here and it died within 2 days, and I called to ask for a refund and they denied pretty much saying that it was completely my fault. Keep in mind this was an $80 coral. Great fish store with all kinds of options! The prices on tanks are externally high but fish are priced fair as long as they are smaller sized 21/2 inches and less the larger fish were high priced but some were gorgeous so it's up to the buyer really. The people working were very friendly and talked with me but didn't become annoying. read more

Buyer beware. Purchased fish that had a bacterial infection that died shortly after purchasing. Sick fish could have killed all of the livestock in my tank. Aquatica does not quarantine new product and put it straight in tanks to be sold. Aquatica told me that the fish I had purchased was received by the store one day prior. Bad quality control. Aquatica policy buyer beware-no returns, no credit. Do not support this store. read more

This was one of my worst experience with any business in a long time. I donated a large aquarium (Value of over $20K) to them. They agreed to remove it and take it in one day. They took 3 weeks. They came in whenever they felt like it and also in bits and pieces. They had agreed to remove the entire system, including the platform that the aquarium was sitting on. Once they took the fish and coral...they had no interest in removing the other stuff. I constantly had to follow-up with them. They did not remove the platform saying it is built-in and we can not remove it. I feel they should have said that to me upfront. They are a very deceiving and non-trustworthy bunch of people. Their attitude is that, since they work with animals, they are nice and gentle people. The fact is totally opposite. The owner and Barbara lied a lot and did not take any responsibility for not removing the platform or why the project took 3 weeks when I was promised that it will be completed in a day. I will advise you to be very careful in dealing with them. They try to come off as that they are doing this for the love of animals...but they are greedy and all about money and nothing else. The store is so huge! There's so much selection, but it all comes at a huge cost. The staff was okay, not friendly but not rude either. The selection was good, and have a bunch of tanks for sale in the back. The store was clean, but my biggest complaint, is the price. The prices here are insane! They had a very small silver arowana, about 3 inches, for $99. The store a couple miles down, had the same size arowana, for $35. Very very expensive store, but also very large. read more

Great local fish store! I bought an entire set up from them..tank and everything in it. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Did not let me buy fish before testing my water a month later for free. Guarantees all their fish and answered all my questions about the new tank months after I bought it when I called in. Lot's to choose from and prices are reasonable. read more

This is my favorite LFS (local fish store). I only have freshwater and there is a great selection. The tanks are the best maintained of any local store I have been to. There are several display tanks and a new 1200 gallon saltwater being installed. There is a good plant selection and free popcorn. Check out their Facebook page for updates on stocking. Just had a good experience buying a fish here. I unfortunately had to bring the fish back because he was not a good fit in my tank. They took the fish back and allowed me to get a different one. First visit purchased 3 Chromis. One lasted less than 48 hours. I bagged the dead fish and called about their credit policy. I was informed that it was "management" discretion. Disappointing response. I have been a reef keeper for 19 years and was hoping to find a new shop. Oh well, guess I will continue to shop on-line and at Nemos. read more

These guys were servicing my 200 gallon saltwater tank. Everything was going just fine for months but then the tank started to have problems. I expressed my concern over a 3 month period because my coral was starting to die and I had massive algae growing. No proactive consultation on their part in spite of my pleas that something is wrong with the tank. After having someone else come in for a second opinion, I found out that they weren't even serving the tank properly. I'm guessing if I replaced all of the coral that has died, it would cost more than a $1,000. read more

Have been multiple times, and my opinions haven't changed. The prices are scary high, the customer service is miserable.... *every* time I have gone in, I just get glared at and given the cold shoulder. When asked questions, the staff is very vague and seem eager to run off. There is *far* better in the charlotte area, and I will *not* be coming in to aquatica again. Ever. Oh and they have *no* return policy at all. At least, not on fish. So if that insanely priced fish dies of stress when you get it home, looks like you're just out of luck (and money). Shady, to say the least. And it is beyond obvious that the staff and even the owner have no real passion for what they're doing. This place is honestly shameful. read more
