I really cannot understand all the 5-star reviews of this company. Maybe their pool service is…read morebetter than their spa repair? After reaching out to the company, Frank Memmo responded the same day. Off to a good start! Or so I thought... I informed him my control board got fried where it connects to the heater. I sent him pictures of the bad board showing the burn marks, the make/model of my spa, and the make/model of my control pack. We arranged a time the following week for him to come out to perform the $175 diagnostic visit. When Frank and his helper arrived at my house they inspected my spa pack and saw the same thing of which I sent pictures. I tried asking questions to see what my options were for replacement, but they were met with dismissive comments and rushed responses. Frank took a couple of pictures of the control pack, although they were the same ones I sent him, and assured me he would come up with an estimate within a few days. After less than 5 minutes, their $175 diagnostic visit was over. I hadn't heard anything for 12 days so I reached back out to Frank to see how my estimate was coming along. He indicated he had been exchanging emails with his distributor regarding the new control pack. Frank informed me the replacement pack needed a 4-wire system, but I had a 3-wire system. I wrote back showing him a picture of my 4-wires going into my current control pack, although he already had this picture twice before. He then sent over a quote which included a 4-wire pack, but a 4kw heater instead of a 5.5kw heater like I have on my current control pack. Although the 5.5kw heater pack is no longer available I would have had no idea until it was too late and already installed. If you intend to hire this company to do any kind of repair work make sure to do your own research! Buyer beware...

Kinda surprised that there aren't more good reviews for this business. I would also love to have…read morethem service our pool but I understand all pool companies in this area are shortstaffed, so this review is for their retail store. Katie is knowledgeable and helpful - she tested my water for free and gave me some good advice on salt vs chlorine, as well as replastering which we were considering. They helped me with an uncooperative ladder as well. They are the kind of place that won't sell you on something you don't need and they stand behind what they sell. They are my go-to guys on pool questions.

We purchased a home with a pool that was always serviced in the past by A and S. We called in May…read moreof 2019 to schedule a pool opening and we were told that they were short staffed and not taking anymore new clients. I explained to them that technically we are not a new account, that we just purchased the home and our pool was always serviced by them, but i was told that they would not be able to help us, and to call at the end of the season to schedule a pool closing. We then contacted Universal Pools who was able to schedule a pool opening in a matter of a couple of days (we received A+ service from them). We were still hoping that A and S would be able to take on our account because they knew the history of our pool, so at the end of the season, we called them to schedule a closing and we were told the exact same thing, that they were unable to service us because "they are still down a technician" and to give them a call in February 2020 to schedule the pool opening for the summer of 2020. I called today (02/04/2020) and was told "they are not taking any new clients who did not have their pool opened or closed by them last year (which they were not willing to do),that they are still short staffed and no one wants to work". I called back to speak with the owner to inform him of this issue, and the lady that answered snickered at me, and was told that he is going to tell me the same exact thing. I did speak with the owner by the name of Stephen Mantz who was equally as useless, and told me that all pool companies are having difficulty finding workers. I explained to him that no other pool company that i contacted had any issues with scheduling. i'm really not sure how a business expects to stay up and running when they are turning away new customers, or in our case, a pool that has been services by them for years. Please do yourself a favor and beware before giving this business any of your money. There are so many more knowledgeable, friendly, pool companies out there that are happy to service existing accounts, and take on new customers without any issue, like Universal Pools. Shame on you A and S!

I'm still angry…read more Here's the story (it's a little long so grab a beer or whatever your favorite sipping beverage is): On Friday, July 17th I went into Van Dorn's Kingsville location and spoke with Marty. I found him to be a very nice man. We spoke for about 10 minutes and he gave me a quote for two different above ground pools. He told me that since I walked in the store, vs calling or messaging online, I was eligible for a free site survey. He asked me if I'd like that and I told him for free..sure! He told me he'd have his site survey man, Charles, contact me. I thanked him for his time and left. On Monday, July 20, a man with a safety vest was walking all over my property. I went outside to find out who this person was....he was from Miss Utility. He informed me he was there because he was told I was purchasing a pool from Van Dorn pools and he had to check out where they were going to dig before they put the pool in. I informed him I was not buying a pool from Van Dorn pools and I asked him what made him think that I was. He told me "Dave" told Miss Utility was buying a pool from them. He grimaced and left, his time and Miss Utility's time, obviously wasted. I called the Kingsville office immediately and ended up giving Chris, their chemical analyst, an earful. I informed him that, in addition to dealing with this strangeness, I had a giant tree fall on my house a few weeks ago and I didn't have time for more stuff to deal with. After being told Marty was off and not back until Thursday. I then decided to locate the owner of the company, Chuck Stafford, this is a small family owned company. I called their Reisterstown store and spoke with Jim, a salesman like Marty. I told him the story and he was aghast. He said that something obviously went pretty wrong in Kingsville and he'd try to get a hold of Chuck. Jim from the Reisterstown store is interested in customer service. Its important to note at this point, I'm stunned at the audacity of the folks up in Kingsville to assume after a 10 minute conversation I was actually spending thousands of dollars with them. Again, stunned and laughing at the absurdity was where I was. A few minutes later, I got a phone call from Dave. Dave is Marty's manager in Kingsville. We didn't even exchange pleasantries, nor was Dave interested in what happened. I asked him if he'd like to know why I originally called and he indicated that he was not interested in why I called, he was only interested in knowing whether I wanted to do business with them or not. I told him no, I was not, he then hung up on me. I once again called Jim at the Reisterstown store who was either truly horrified or pretending to be horrified...I'd very much like to believe it's the former. He assured me he'd try and get a hold of the owner. It's been 3 days and no call from anyone at Van Dorn. I have read some wonderful things about this company and I really hope that I am an example of a chain of events that don't usually happen and went horribly wrong. I've told a number of people about this so far and we all find the situation obnoxiously laughable. Seriously, shame on you Van Dorn.

First, I was required to drive over an hour to their showroom for a completely unnecessary appointment--just to be shown pool options that could have easily been reviewed at home via email or a catalog. After that unproductive meeting, I was told someone needed to come out to evaluate my property. I rearranged my work schedule for this appointment, which was set between 7:30-8:30 AM. No one showed up. I received a voicemail at 8:30 saying he would now likely arrive between 10:30-11:30. That's a 3-4 hour delay with no prior notice. Since I had to be at work by 11, I called him back to say that wouldn't work. When I reached out to the owner to express my frustration, he was dismissive and rude, downplaying the situation by saying the rep was "just going to be a little late." A four-hour delay is not a minor inconvenience--especially after I changed my work schedule to accommodate them. This company clearly lacks professionalism and respect for clients' time. I would look elsewhere.
