"Disclaimer" I'm not a pet owner and am rating this business as a prospective owner/customer…read more I have been in this plaza (includes The Keg, Dollarama, Decathlon, Astoria) a few times and have been curious about this store as I know a fish aficionado and have owned a Betta and goldfish before. It's right beside the Astoria. I've only ever owned a Betta and maybe a goldfish, but I love to browse as I find watching fish relaxing and almost hypnotic. I was very impressed with visiting this shop. It's organized and well staffed. Within a minute of walking in, about 3 of them had pleasantly greeted me with just a non-pressure, Hello. The store is very well organized and the signs are large and well displayed. The front contains all your supplies and even medications. The back, or The Deep, houses the majority of the stock. To each side of the entrance, there are aisles and aisles of tanks full of an astounding array of species, including a few sharks. This can be an expensive hobby, so it was good to learn that you can put major equipment purchases on a layaway plan. For anyone not familiar with that, you can basically save up to pay for an aquarium or expensive piece of equipment while they keep it on hold for you - a great way to avoid credit charges while keeping the item and its price on hold. Whether I just come to enjoy or keep considering purchasing a new pet, I highly recommend coming in to check this place out.

They took over this space a few years when the retail strip just east shut for a condo development. It used to be a mechanic garage, which is why it's so large on the inside and is surrounded by 2 garages. They have Toronto Cat Rescue cats and kittens available for adoption here. Support a local charity and rescue a TCR feline! A good selection of food and discounts if you buy by the case. They don't carry Orijen brand, but that's true of all Pet Valus. Hopefully they'll have it in the future. They also have a wide range of accessories and I've always found the staff to be friendly. The parking lot is little messed up because it's super narrow and there's no real spots outlined. Only about 3 cars can park in front of the store and the rest have to park on the other side across from the Midas. If it ever got busy here it would easily devolve into double parking, but so far I've never seen that happen.

I've been going to this Pet Valu for four years now, and the staff have helped me with recommendations for litter, food, behaviour and toys. I love that they work with Toronto Cat Rescue on such a regular basis, and that they carry a wide variety of alternative cat food, treats, and toys. They have a rewards program for customers, if you buy the same food your 10th bag is free! It may not sound like a lot, but with three cats? It's helpful! It's not the most "chic" pet store, but I find that a lot of those boutique pet stores in the Junction/High Park area carry the same products at much higher cost. The store is easily reached from the alternate east-end exit at Keele Station, or the regular west-end entrance if accessibility is an issue.

The owners, Jim & Lynda, couldn't have been more knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful in recommending Xmas gift suggestions. That was a couple of years ago, and after picking up a feeder or 2 for myself since then, I always go back to Jim & Lynda for seed etc. even though there is a WBU store in Burlington much closer to my home. Even when some backyard critters damaged a few of my feeders, Jim & Lynda not only scrounged up some replacement parts ' free of charge ' and they repaired them for me, they had a few great ideas to fend off the critters going forward. If you're into backyard bird feeding or just thinking about getting into this hobby.....Jim & Lynda's WBU shop is highly recommended !
