I recently had my first in person/direct experience with Aquarium Co-op. I have been a subscriber to the youtube channel for some time (in my personal account) . As an experienced aquarium person for over 30 years, I agreed with a lot of what Cory and his team share. There are a few things I did not agree with, but that is good for the community. However, after I joined the community I learned the Cory is purposely and strategically censorsoring any alternative views that are against his business and his aquarium views. This is called censorship. How can we the people know that Cory is a good person and business owner when he censors what HE has determined needs to be censored? Reviews of his business are removed from several review platforms. Sure he leaves a few and attempts to use them as education for other buyers. I get it. Plants die while shipping. Plants, however, should not be shipped when they do NOT meet the description of the plant you have purchased. Read the reviews. More people praise Cory than not. Are you aware of his rewards program for reviews? Read the reviews before you buy from this place. Sure many repeat buyers are really happy with the products from this business. Did I mention review rewards? HOWEVER, if you are not happy rest assured that your voice / review will most likely be removed by Cory (he is the owner). The bad reviews are low due to this tactic. Most people do NOT complain and as is my experience, instead of replying to my complaint Cory has removed my complaint. Beware! You have been warned! You might think this is a rant, but what it is, is me being tired of poor business practices being hidden and the voice of the people being censored just to make a dollar$$$ If we can not share our complaints, then we are all in for a bad experience more often. Helpful and informative staff and a good selection. After being shunned at Aquarium Zen we drove out to Edmonds and it was worth the drive. This is how you run a business. The scope of this business is much deeper than just a good fish store. Here is was thinking I found a very accommodating business with good service and products, but it is so much more than that. The owner has multiple "how to" videos answering the questions that arise when caring for fish. They also developed their own products such as efficient filters and their own fish food for fry. They sell these products locally and nationwide and their instructions are clear and usually come with a helpful videos. This place is just amazing. Great reviews for service and for their products. I can't wait till you guys get more goldfishes. Some people might find that the prices at your store for goldfishes might be higher than other places. But they looks healthier when comparison to others places. What surprise me is during the time when everything slowly opening back up, the fishes at your store were healthier than other places. Cory sent the wrong item in my order. When I emailed him expressing my concern, he replied "Hello Andrew, I have refunded all of your money as we don't want to deal with rude customers. I wish you luck shopping elsewhere. Cory" I am gladhe refunded my money, (even thou I didn't ask for a refund , only that they send the correct item) But none the less, he could have handled that better! As a business, how do mess up people's order, and then get butt hurt when they complain? Edit: Cory and his team went out of their way once they saw I had a bad experience on yelp and gave me a full refund. I did not contact them in anyway before so it's impressive the way they took care of me. I said one star before but I respect and appreciate great customer service. Ordered online plants and had constant updates through email, which was great. When the plants arrived they were put instantly in water when the package arrived and they were not looking good. All my plants were mostly brown and roots were nonexistent. My moss all was the size of a quarter in diameter. I've heard so many great things but what I got did not match unfortunately. read more

The actual Large Pre Filter sponge you get the pores are way bigger than the picture on the website. In my opinion the Large Pre Filter is not safe for shrimp. I emailed them about it and I still can't believe Cory is telling me it's safe for shrimps. If you want a "Safe" pre filter for shrimps get the "Medium Pre Filter Sponge" the pores are smaller and exactly the same as pictured on the website. I had to make another order for the Medium size sponge and at my "Expense" return the Large size ones because they don't provide the label or postage. read more

Very disappointing! If you value the health of your tank and your wallet, you'll stay away from this place. I am having trouble getting my tank stabilized. (I bought a new tank and the equipment from them.) Every time I go in I get a different person to talk to, with different information and advice. Each time I'm sold a different product to solve my problem. All my guppies have died due to cloudy water, which water clarifier and a foam pump can't seem to cope with it. I've been sold three different kinds of substrates. Last time I was in I was told I didn't need hard water to care for my mystery snails. Wrong!! My municipal water system has very soft water. Within 48 hours of new (well-washed gravel, on my part), there were streams of slime growing on the heater, coming out of the pump and the new substrate. Plants and algae are dead. read more

My husband is a long time fan and follower of Aquarium Co-Op and Cory. Recently, he made a large order on their website, including live plants, heater, filter, light, etc. everything was shipped everything was shipped promptly and packaged excellently. The plants arrived in good shape(most already showing rapid growth), however, however about a week after arrival some of the new anubias he ordered started to suffer from rhizome rot. He reached out to Cory to let them know they might have received other sick plants and to be on the lookout. Cory reached out within minutes(at nearly 10pm no less) to offer a refund for all of the affected plants. "Amazing service from an awesome individual. I discovered Aquraium Co-Op online, and I have been following Cory's videos and podcasts. The store is a fair drive from my place, but I got the impression I was gonna love it. It was everything I dreamed it would be. This is a small store, but they have much of what hobbyists need, and the fish and plant quality is unmatched at any other shop I have visited in this area. We picked up some meds, a sponge filter, that amazing tiny USB air pump, and an algae scrubber. I highly recommend that you make the trip to visit the shop at least once, and then tune in online. The staff here are amazing. The two that assisted me today were so friendly, professional, and helpful. The selection of betta is great! Gorgeous, healthy fish. The shop is great looking, too. I've been to a handful of LFS in the Seattle metro area and this has been by FAR the best one. The tanks are clean. The shop itself is clean and orderly. I can't wait to come back even though I live in South Seattle. The only thing I though; I wish there were some toys and do-dads for the fish to play with. Man, what can I say. I am blown away. I normally don't leave reviews. I ordered the co2art regulator and had a very uncommon issue with the output knob. Cory has been great and very patient with me. I had also put in a ticket with co2art just in case because I wanted to make sure I could be up and running as soon as possible and wasn't sure the process between both stores. Their tech support was top notch and I can see why Cory stands behind them. They said I should exchange it and would help me or I can go through Aquarium Co-Op I emailed Cory at 8:30am and by 1pm SAME DAY he had a replacement sent out. Everyone is real friendly and semi knowledgeable regarding the hobby. Although I feel it is kind of scripted in that it's pretty copy and paste from one customer to the next. But I guess that happens when they're getting a lot of customers asking the same questions. So I don't blame them. Tanks are pretty clean, no dead fish in tanks, and live stock is pretty active. What I will say is that the plant sections are a huge disappointment. All the plants are small/ browning: nutrient deficiency with leaves breaking down. I mean come on !! You guys make your own ferts!! I just don't think plants are their specialty. They also have no plant cultures, disappointed. I only saw neocaridinas in the tanks. The blue dreams were not really that blue and opaque. $6.99 a piece, not really worth the quality/price. Wish they had better selections/ colors/ grades. But I guess it's good that they at least have some shrimps for beginners to play around with. Overall I liked the store and I will be going back, but only for the fish and fish supplies. Seems as if undermining community members intelligence and sassy communication is a strong suit. - Fast forward a week and am still as uncomfortable with the idea of returning as I was with the customer service. Tired of feeling uncomfortable and NEEDED to leave to first 1 star review to feel less heavy while enjoying my fishy babies. Great selection! Until you try to talk to staff.. if you really need something call first just to check inventory; if you have questions- ask anywhere else first. Similar to a Pecto/PetSmart run, you're likely to ask someone a question and get bullied for how little they perceive you to know. Came in with hubs for fish date day- instead ended up being mansplained fish for 30 mins before choosing to shop elsewhere. Been keeping heavily planted hardscaped community tanks for years which led into a degree in marine bio and aquatic and fishery sciences due to the love of nature, research, and need for hands in water it inspired- have watched Cory and other YouTubers come up as I made my way. But yet somehow my date day ended up being grilled for being told choices were "up to my judgement," THEN belittled and disrespected when my judgement (along with that of my own endless research) didn't match up with shop stance. Needless to say my husband refuses to let me go back into the shop no matter how hard my chase for specific species/sexes becomes in an effort to shop local vs online. As an agoraphobic who only finds the courage to leave my home for fishy runs- co op just makes me feel like it was my fault for thinking I could be respected in a popular establishment as a younger BIPOC individual. But maybe it was just my bad for thinking male peers would accept my intelligence. Especially when the first topic echoing through the store was that with a coworker behind the counter about how they didn't think a female customer knew what they were doing and they didn't listen to their forceful opinion leading in them not wanting to deal with them anymore. Maybe your opinion would help to create meaningful communicate if it was bothered to be delivered with tact, logic, and respect for the intelligence of the person in front of you. All in all, after years of visits to see Murphy grow into his new tanks and seeing the brand grow into its new digs- popularity seems to be the death of another wonderful local establishment. At least, it very well seems so in regards to communication. Do yourself a favor and drive around first or stick to ordering their well priced and v worth it self branded test strips instead! Hands down my favorite fish store ever! Not only for the storefront, but for everything that the Co-Op Crew and Cory do for aquarium education! They sell a plethora of dry goods (food, supplies, equipment, meds) as well as tons of fish and live plants! I usually spend a good hour each visit, to see what's new and to watch Murph! If you go, you HAVE to visit him! He's the cutest Mbu puffer! I've purchased a medium intake sponge, bio rings, a bio bag, a must have Mbu puffer hoodie, all from their online website. They were all very affordable and shipped super quick! I received my package within the week! I also visit regularly and have purchased my dragonstone, Christmas moss, dwarf saggitaria, cryptocoryne, 6 green neon tetras, and 3 olive nerite snails! All of which live in my 10 gallon community tank with my veiltail betta! I feel bad for the other customers that didn't experience the great customer service that I always do. Robert and Ali are friendly and answer all my questions. They even offered to put me on a waiting list for the Christmas moss, which they get from local hobbyists (woohoo for supporting local) and called me back within the month to let me know when they were in stock! That was awesome! They also answer my questions via Facebook Messenger very promptly as well! Like other locals I no longer shop at the store. In the past, the store was a cut above the rest, but now it's nothing special. Apparently they are putting all their energy toward the online business and the local store has suffered. They have greatly reduced the variety of dry goods. Lots of empty fish tanks. Amount and variety of plants has been reduced, but if you want a betta in a bowl - they have tons! Probably a good place for a newbie, but if you have kept fish and plants for a while, they don't have much to offer. read more

The best aquarium store you may have never heard of BUT once you visit, it's the only one you'll ever need. Goodbye commercial pet stores, hello quality, customer service and community. It's in a small strip mall in the back on the lower floor. The store is small but makes excellent use of its space. The aquariums are well stocked and maintained. They provide essential top quality foods, medicines, plants, filters, etc. There are also locally bred fish as indicated by a blue sticker on the tank. One thing I absolutely love about Aquarium Co-Op is the consultations you can purchase from the owner, Corey, who will answer your questions via Skype which means even if you don't live in WA or nearby, you'll have his expertise helping you create a tailored solution to any issues you may be having with your tank. Corey also has an awesome YouTube channel for additional education and a robust website to make purchases. The site is very user friendly with the option to create an account and offers sales as well. If I ever leave WA, this will still be my aquarium store. Such a gem.
