If you're looking for rare and pretty betta fishes, I will say that this store has some of the best looking bettas that I have seen amongst the many fish stores. Priced around $27ish for one betta, make sure to realllllly look at the health of the fish. While pretty in look, I noticed quite a few bettas being a bit lifeless and the water quality didn't look all that stellar. In terms of fishes and plants, definitely very pricey at this store. If you're looking for more common fishes like guppies, neon tetras and such, I would recommend checking out other fish stores that sell these at a more reasonable rates. For the plants, not a big variety and much too expensive when compared to other fish stores. If you're looking for discus fishes, this place seems to be pretty specialized in it. Not sure on how much discus usually cost but there's quite the variety here to check out. Finally, this is just a note that parking will always be a challenge in Chinatown/International District. Make sure to lock your car and leave nothing valuable in sight since this is a slightly sketchy part in the area. read more

Independent fish stores is a rarity. King's has been a go to place for me since I was in my tweens. I love supporting your Mom and Pa's. If you want to find more rare and higher quality type fish, go to King's . The owner is very sweet and really does her best to give you a fair price. Fair is relative people. If you want fancy high quality fish, you will pay $50.00 and more for anything. If you need to stay in budget, you might want to visit big box chain stores. I frequent King's alot and will continue to do so. read more

They used to be in Chinatown and happy to see that they are still around - in a different locale. Was looking to add a couple of goldfish to my troop, but good selections are hard to come by in those other chain stores; and independent stores are hard to come by. Decided to go and seek them out, almost did not trust my GPSbut glad that I did. The location is in a residential neighborhood - but all good! They have a pretty wide selection and the they were pretty healthy looking and good quality. Got a couple of goldies - a black, butterfly tail oranda, just gorgeous, and a cute baby orange Ryukin. So far, so good and all are frisky and getting along! Recommend this place to go visit. read more

There are two kinds of shoppers, those who enjoy mom and pop shops, and those who prefer chain retail stores. I am one who prefers small business and supporting my local community. This review will speak to those who are of similar mind. As an aquascaper having the right fish to compliment the plants, rocks and wood is difficult to find. I went to several small businesses and they did not seem to have the knowledge or patience as I experienced when I met Lisa at King's Discus. At first I was a little hesitant as I am sure many others can relate because the business is based out of her garage. However she does have a proper business license posted for that location and explained that she recently relocated from the international district. I was looking for some specific fish that she did not have in stock that day at that location. However she was able to get them for me and I picked them up the next day. The fish that I were able to get the first day were picked out specifically for what I wanted. Lisa had a lot of patience with me during this process and I appreciate her for it. If you are a person who enjoys mom and pop type shops and are looking for some fish, fish supplies go check this place out. If she doesn't have it in stock she may just be able to get the fish for you too. read more

There are many discus in this store like I expected. They also have good selection of "beginner" fish. The fish are healthy but they should label the price of the fish. It's a good place to buy fish but they don't have enough types/varieties of plants and decor like drift wood. The owner was friendly and helpful. read more

I honestly don't like to write reviews on things unless it needs to be said. I completely understand that it's tough running the place just by herself and it can get to a person. But the store didn't look as great as it did a few years back and prices was just randomly given out. To be fully honest, I would have purchased 5 or more discus if the price was even remotely competitive to all discus sellers now a day. Small (3-4.5") size discus cost over $100-$155 per fish same price as their big size (5-6.5"). I can literally order online same size of discus from Myrtle beach or Uncle Sam for way cheaper ranging anywhere from $30 - $60 bucks a fish with high quality and guaranteed live arrival next day shipping. I honestly think that if price was dropped to $30 - $60 bucks for average size they would make a killer. They have great quality fish her don't get me wrong but no one in the right mind would pay $300 for 2 3-4.5" discus when someone can order it online for bigger size and more. Only reason I gave this place a 2 stars instead of 1 star is because of the quality of the discus there. Price is completely horrible and needs to be reevaluated. Please take this into consideration and not that I want to hate on the store and I would really love to see this store back to how it was when I use to kept fish back in 2010 (kept African cichlids) just got back into the hobby (keeping discus now). Don't be fooled by is outside this is a Great place to go if you're looking for some big-boy fish, they also have a decent selection of small fish. Not your boring average variety of fish either. I believe they're all freshwater but I could be wrong. They also have a very healthy looking bettas, much bigger and stronger looking than the ones you would find at the go-to pet store. I have been shopping at King Discus for about a year and a half now, and I have NEVER been dissapointed. Kevin and his family are charming as well as knowledgeable and helpful. The prices at King Discus are very reasonable, sometime almost too good. The selection of items, like filters and medicine, are excellent, although if you want something very specific call them ahead of time. The biggest seller for me, however, is how well he takes care of his fish. You are always going to have the inevitable couple of fish who will just not do well, but what I've noticed about Kevin that I truly respect is that if he get's a couple of sick fish, he quick to act to isolate them and treat them as well as protect any of their shipping/tank mates. What's more, he is constantly cleaning tanks, working on projects, cleaning the place, making sure the pH balance and everything is in order and healthy...he is constantly looking out for the welfare of his fish. I have never been to a fish store as well kept, healthy, and alive as his. It really is wonderful. None of the fish I've ever bought from Kevin have been ill or in poor condition, they're all healthy and happy. King Discus is excellent, I highly recommend them to everyone who needs fish supplies. So I know nothing about fish, tanks, aquariums, or plastic treasure chest decor. I needed to buy some activated charcoal in order to keep the moisture in terrariums from going rank. If you're like me, you're always eager to stroll into and experience a business in the International District, but maybe, just maybe, you're a wee bit intimidated by the ID-ness of it all. Will I know what in the hell to do when I walk into a crowded little specialty shop that's likely run by an ancient, but knowledgeable Asian man? (Don't judge me!) The owner was eating lunch when we walked in, but he quickly, kindly, happily helped us with our easy purchase. We walked away very happy. I decided to set up a tank dedicated to discus in large part after seeing the gorgeous fish they stock here. After a lot of planning & research I purchased 6 discus from King's and I couldn't be happier with my new fish. They are all outgoing, enthusiastic eaters with great confirmation and breathtaking colors. While I had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for, the lady working the store was very helpful in pointing out the especially good looking fish in each tank. I've had them for two weeks now and they are doing very well with no signs of any disease. I would definitely purchase from Kings Discus again. read more

One of 3 fish stores in Chinatown. Three, why are there 3 concentrated in one district? Well, whatever it is, it's good for me as I can park once and walk to 3 places on the same day. Of the 3, this is the cleanest and best kept. Lots of fish here in large well lit and clean tanks. Not a dead fish did I see. Seems a family affair as husband and wife were tottering around answering customer questions and there was at least one little tot wandering around, a real life Mom and Pop shop. I was excited to go to this store for the first time to check them out, and see what they have. I paid for parking and walked over. They are supposed to open at 10:30... at 10:55 their lights were off and door locked. I thought maybe they forgot to unlock the door or something, so I called their main line. I thought I had the wrong number because someone answered "hello?" I was then told that they went to get fish and would be back at 12pm and to come back later. I peeked in the window, and was excited to see some stuff I haven't seen in other aquarium stores. I will be going back to try again, but first experience was bleh. read more

This store is pricy and the fish quality was bad. The only reason I went to this store is because I was specifically looking for discuses, and they are the only shop around that have selection of discuses. I brought 3 discuses there at first, but they did not look good. Asked the owner if the fish were healthy and she said yes. I asked that because one discus was already looking kind of weak in the bag (the fish was on its side floating). She tap the bag and the fish swim straight up again. Then she said she'll guarantee 7 days, and told me to call if I have any problems. After I got home and was able to get a better look, the discuses has some white growth on it. So I put them in the quarantine tank to treat them. And the next day one discus passed away, it did not make it overnight. Called the store and the owner told me I can come back in a few day and exchange the fish because they did not have any small discuses at the moment. And blame the discus did not adjust well to my water(which is not true, because there were growth on the fish, and the other fish were fine). After a few days I went back and got 2 more discuses from their new shipments. That is when I realized that all the discuses from the first batch were all sick/weak. The second batch of discuses were way more active compare to the first batch. All discuses are quarantine in the same tank and only the first batch are not doing well. So that's when I realized the fish were not taken care of in the store, since the new shipment of the fish are more lively and healthier. Spend more than 300$ there and I regret it. I thought shop locally would be better, but I should of just get the discuses online that are healthier and better color. Will not return to this store ever again read more

I had read the mixed reviews on Yelp about this place, and when I walked in the bad reviews were confirmed. While some of the tanks were clean, they were bare bones - not one accessory or gravel in any of the tanks. Believe it or not this makes a difference for the quality of life of the fish. There were many dead fish in the tanks and some of the fish were sick. The angel fish in the back had decaying fins and obviously were not doing well. The bottom row of tanks on each wall generally were empty, but some water and plants had been left for what looked like months. They were algae/mold ridden and looked like chores nobody wanted to do. It was disgusting. The tanks look more like what you would see at a live fish market - product ready to be killed and eaten. Even if they had the products I wanted, I couldn't bring myself to buy from this business. I can't believe people support them - they are not kind to their fish. read more

Tried this shop another time, no, nothing has improved. This time we found a lot more tanks without water, all in need of a good cleaning, looked to be abandoned. Noticeded a lot of fish looked emaciated and of low quality. Worst of all the danio tank on the register counter had no oxygen nor aeration. Stay away from this place! The store is supposed to open at 10:30 in the morning, but when we arrived at 10:45 the store was still closed. We contacted the staff and asked if the store will be open soon. The lady who answered the phone was extremely rude, and grew inpatient. Horrible. last time I went in the only saltwater tank they had was infested with majono's or how ever they are spelled. Plus ask a question and see if they are capable of answering it correctly. tried to sell me a torch coral telling me it was a bubble tip anemone. Super friendly, very knowledgable owner and impeccable fish! I bought a beautiful Calico Ryukin for my 75 and the owner promised to guide me through my upcoming discus set up. Nothing particularly bad about this place, just not what I was liking for. I want a fish that can live alone in a medium/small aquaponics setup. This place has some nice, expensive fish. Such a great family owned store! The lady is so genuine and highly educated with years and years of fish experience! She focuses highly on show quality discus as well for angles and misc fish. Especially German blue rams!!' Gorgeous! Not the right place if you are looking for plants, and other things larger pet stores offer, but all in all! Such a great place, especially for us local SEATTL people! She had a good selection of frozen foods too which is awesome! Definitely recommend! I thought it was quite impressive for being run by only one person, it seems like she is doing a really good job caring for the fish. Last Friday I purchased a Discus from here and he is doing wonderful, very healthy, and a big eater. Although the prices may be high, if you take into account the cost of shipping fish it would come out to be about the same as if you purchased Discus online. General awesomeness. I got a heart parrot cichlid here and he is cute and very healthy. The owner is very friendly and knows everything about fish. We go all the time and he knows us well. The only complaint I have is the lack of selection on supplies, but he does have most things you would need. We get all our bloodworms there, and most treatments as they are needed. This place is really the only show in town for me. I'm a discus lover and they really bring in top quality fish, comparable to those I've seen in Tokyo, Singapore and Bangkok. Some of their fish have show-quality confirmation, and i have not seen any signs of disease in the fish I have purchased. I have had several for four years, going strong. Prices are very good. The folks who run the place are helpful and pleasant. I drive 55 miles into Seattle to get to this shop, and the parking is difficult. But I keep doing it. It well deserves five stars. read more

I have two Discus in my 150 gal. tank and they are doing very well, and was looking to add many more. I do regular water changes twice a week, as well as tank cleaning. If that's not enough, I have a professional (fish) care taker come in every 3 months to double check and make sure I'm on the right track. (all good) So March 16th I go to this store to add to my collection, I only buy one at a time to make sure to give it the up most care, when I walk in I was very shocked at the low selection of fish in the store. After spotting the fish that I wanted, the lady looked at the fish and said " that is $150 but I will give it to you for $90, a red flag should have gone off, but I though she did that because of the small size of the fish. After bagging it up, I had a closer look at the fish, and it didn't look so well, is he ok I asked, oh yah he is very healthy. One week later the fish was dead, when I went back, the lady running store tried to make me feel like I didn't know what I was doing, No refund, no exchange for a fish of equal value, " I'll give you 40%off if you buy a lot of fish. I ask "do you have something that tells customers you return policy" she points to a sign posted about 8 to 10 feet high near the ceiling. I asked " how many people come in looking up that high". That's it, trust me I will never go to this store again, even if the change it to a cigar shop,(2nd love ) read more
