Lovely friendly atmosphere, we got a warm welcome when we arrived. They do a good range of food served Mon-Sat 12pm -8pm and Sunday Lunch 12pm - 3pm. I have not tried a Sunday lunch yet but have been midweek when the food was lovely, generous portions! I thought the cost of the main meals were very good and were what I expect from a local pub. Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. The view from our room was fantastic and we spent a numbers of hours each day just wayching the world go by. They say you should start the day with a hearty breakfast and the team did a great job with a meal that lasted most of the day. I informed John as we were leaving that my only disppointment was the uncomfortable bed and he seemed genuinely surprised and said that no one else had mentioned it but would look at it at the earliest oppurtunity. Sunderland is just a short distance away with busses stopping outside the guest house every 30 minutes. The decor wasn fresh and the beds were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was served in a small ground floor ding room, by a lady who was very chatty and a great cook. Food was plentiful and piping hot with a good selection of stand breakfast food. Close to the beach and had we not have been there in February that would have been useful!!!

"…read more Run by writer and juke box enthusiast Kevern Stafford and his wife Ruth, The Waves is up on the cliffs above the south end of Scarborough - one of the nicest areas of town, from what we saw. It's a beautiful house, stylishly decorated, spotlessly clean, and really just a lovely place to be. There's a funky guest sitting room with a juke box and a record player, breakfast is served on locally handmade furniture and pottery ... and wait till you see the breakfast menu. There's about a dozen choices, ranging from a full fry up made with local, quality produce to vegan kedgeree. Or maybe you fancy kippers, or a superfoods smoothie ... or soft boiled eggs with marmite soldiers? And then there's the wifi, and the helpful information on good pubs and restaurants, and just Kevern's overall effort to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as he can. All this for a reasonable price - our room was only £64. Really, I'd move in if I could. Go there!

The interior is immaculate: beautiful modern decor that isn't flashy, nor does it detract from the architecture of the building. Excellent service: Leo is an attentive and friendly host who goes to great lengths to look after the comfort of his guests. Good food: Breakfast is generous and hearty Whenever friends come to town, I recommend that they stay here rather than with me. Sometimes a place of this nature will be too stiff and formal for our liking, making us feel out of place. We want to relax and enjoy our food, not feel we are on display to the ever so watching servers. Dunstanburgh had all the qualities of an upper class establishment but without the stiffness. We felt welcomed and right at home.
